### "Highly Recommend Neon CRM for Small To Medium Nonprofits "

We have been using NEON CRM for one year and our experience has been excellent. Their customer service service and training continues to be exceptional even after we completed onboarding.

Pros

I love Neon's pricing model. They price based on a nonprofit's income, not the number of contacts they have. The onboarding processes was straightforward. Our onboarding consultant was very helpful and walked us through the whole process and was always available to answer questions. This was one of the easiest software onboardings I have ever done. I really appreciate the monthly webinars that go over new system releases. They do extensive training on how to use them so I'm consistently learning new and better ways to use the software. But my all time favorite thing are the reports. So easy to pull and access. I can get all types of information and easily present it to my boss, the board, potential major donors, etc. Our previous CRM had terrible reporting systems and this is the main reason why we switched.

Cons

Their system emails are a little difficult to build and they are not very attractive. More specifically, there are a lot of limitations to what integrated fields are useable. There have been quite a few times when I have wanted to pull in specific data from the client record into an email and I could not. However, I have seen improvements made to their system emails and I expect to continue to see more. They seem to be aware that this is an issue.

### "Not what we signed up for and it doesn't do what we want"

I've been using Neon for 2 years for a smaller non-profit organization. I am a CPA with 20+ years of experience. Using this software isn't meant for a finance person...and I'm not really sure what kind of professional they had in mind when they developed this system.

Pros

It is fairly easy to input new donations but that doesn't mean that the gifts entered aren't somehow lost afterward. There really isn't anything that I like about the system. We were lied to when we upgraded to the $210-ish/month level.

Cons

Almost everything. Data is randomly lost -- gifts that were entered a week ago are suddenly not found when I look for them. I inherited a database with multiple versions of what should be the same account (for instance one account is in one spouse name only, another in both names). We've tried to consolidate those accounts but it never seems to work. The automatic emails sent to donors when a gift is entered is a total joke. Evidently you need a degree in computer science or similar to change the automatic email. And switching between different email templates? Forget about it. Looking over years and years of notes from different employees trying to maintain our database and repeatedly the comment was "this system is clunky" and it seems the easiest way to get the work done is to do it manually, if this is the software that we have. We upgraded to a higher level of the software about a year ago (and paid a large lump sum when we did, plus the 250% higher fee). We spoke with representatives from Neon over the phone about this. We were told that we could cancel the subscription or return to the lower level. When we tried to do that, we were told that we would be cancelled as of 12/31/2025, which is 20 months after we were fooled into upgrading to "fix" our issues.

Overall, the platform is great! Any time I need to communicate with the service team, they are always very helpful and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend their platform.

Pros

I like the security, customer support, and donor management the most! Both are very helpful and allow for easier maintenance for the organization.

Cons

Limited accessibility for our current sponsorship and membership programs. This would allow for a much smoother management for these two programs.

Generally, I like Neon CRM a lot. I appreciate that they have a large team who is constantly working to build the product and sometimes wish they would focus more on UX than creating new features.

Pros

The ease of tracking donor information and FY progress. I appreciate that it, in effect, one large interactive Rolodex.

Cons

I don't always have full confidence that all data is represented in the reports we created. The merge tool seems to miss a number of accounts. It feels that there should be a simpler way for smaller organizations to use it.

It is good, we appreciate that Neon adds new experiences and systems each year. There are a lot of options, so we can do what we want with fundraising campaigns, volunteer events, or emails.

Pros

I like the easy to use interface and how different parts of the platform talk to each other. We use it for events and for donor database. It is also easy to pull reports for our board.

Cons

Duplicates is always an issue with CRMs, but the merge feature is easy to use on Neon. I just have to do it throughout the year since donors can make their own profiles.

Overall, Neon CRM is user-friendly and straightforward, although complex enough to host all of the different offerings we provide at the museum.

Pros

The features Neon provides allow our Non-Profit museum to thrive. I personally love the ease of access into accounts and class registrations.

Cons

Currently, the only thing I would like to see improve is the volunteer portal. I am making it work for our small scale volunteer program, but automated reminder messages and application approval emails would be incredibly helpful to our organization.

Overall experience with Neon CRM is great. We use it regularly for grant tracking, reporting, philanthropic support tracking, donor management, donation tracking, giving campaigns and special events.

Pros

I appreciate the monthly webinars on the latest updates. I like the ease and user-friendliness of Neon CRM and Neon Pay.

Cons

The only cons would be that sometimes it can take longer to find tutorials within the Neon One Academy, especially when you're searching for one particular insight into using the CRM database.

Neon CRM is a multi-functional tool that helps our organization organize large amounts of data: donor contacts, event registrants, email subscribers, and more.

Cons

Neon CRM is in a transitional moment between legacy and next generation updates that feels a bit clunky. I wish their product team would have more support in order for updates to roll out faster and with fewer glitches.

### "Easy peasy"

It has been to easy to work with. They have been very responsive when I have asked for help. I am not great with technology so it is hard to point a finger.

Pros

I love the ease of the fundraising support and the email campaigns. Everyone that I have interacted with has been very helpful from building our website to creating a fundraiser.

Cons

That is a hard question because I am not sure if something is hard to use or if I am not understanding how to do a specific task.

It's a little frustrating but David is always as helpful as possible! I use Arts people every single day for something-- from Donor tracking, to running reports, to selling tickets.

Pros

The excellent customer service member David! He is knowledgable and enthusiastic. I always email him when I have an issue.

Cons

The ticket sales aspect is difficult to set up. We always have issues when we are trying to set up our new season.

### "User Friendly and Only Slightly Limited"

I work on the development team of a midsize non-profit in New Orleans. We have about 500 donors in our data base and host an annual fundraising event that grosses about 250,000 annually. I manage the CRM, send thank you letters, input gifts, pull reports, and help create donor engagement plans.

Pros

Neon's CRM reporting capacity is pretty easy to use and quick to learn, which makes switching CRM systems fairly simple. I also love their marketing tools. Being able to send out emails, and mail merge and print thank you letters allows me to spend more time on higher level thinking. I also love their workflows. it decreases the amount of time I must spend ideally "checking" for new gifts, overdue pledges, new users adding themselves into the CRM system, ect. The integration with Constant Contact has also allowed us to work closely with the communications team to routinely update list which is very useful.

Cons

It is a bit limited on the reporting front, but does have a number of reports that are built into the system designed to assist with combating these limitations, but with simplicity often comes a number of functionality trade-offs. They also have a number of other features, such as events, grant recording ect. but they do not integrate as well as they could with the financial side of the system. They also do not have an integration with the auction system that my non-profit currently uses. We were told we could conduct a batch transfer that would easily upload gift data in bulk, but we later found out after signing up for Neon that if guest used a different email for the auction or if we did not manually input neon's ID into the spreadsheet guest profiles could be duplicated.

### "The worst software company I've encountered in 25 years"

I never had one positive experience with the company in 14 months.

Pros

That I was able to export some of my data when we walked away.

Cons

(1) The company is dishonest in what it presents. Customer support was taking 5-7 days when we started, they got it down to 2 days but all the answers were ambigious. They sold us 3 slots of custom support and then said it would be 3-4 months before they had availability. (2) They lock you in to an annual contract (3) They log you out out every 2 hours and last month announced you would have to go through 2 factor authentication to get back in, (4) The features do not work well and they are not integrated: They have email marketing, but no way to see on a constituent profile page what subscriptions they chose; they have a store but no way to see who bought a particular product, (4) we paid them to import data, but they would not import years of one-to-one emails we had gathered and provided to their import team. Years of customer interaction by email was lost ... I could go on and on. We pulled the plug after 14 terrible months.

Neon is a solid product. It provides a little more than we need which is great to know we can grow into the product. The support staff is very helpful.

Pros

We liked the general ease of use, and the ability to customize the fields that we needed to manage our volunteers and clients.

Cons

There were a lot of upgrades in the product at the time we were implementing most of the features. The training was a little difficult because things changed right after we would train on them.

Pros

Complete donor management all under one platform. Campaign set up is quick and simple. Peer-to-peer campaigning is great!

Pros

Neon is a very affordable CRM compared to most. Neon is continually rolling out major updates at all levels of service. Support staff tend to be quickly responsive whenever there is an issue, and work quickly to resolve it.

Cons

Neon Pay has higher processing fees than many payment processors. Neon CRM works better when it is used as your processing method, so it is frustrating that the fees are comparatively higher. Some new major content, like events management, is only available at the higher service tiers.

Having almost all of the critical data in one place and the ability to run reports, create forms for data collection, and track funding efficiently. I look forward to learning even more about how to use it to the full potential.

Cons

Cannot view a form completely without going into fill it out; unclear at a given time what our package includes as far as apps, integrations, and updates; and excessive data points on profiles/accounts from various forms (we need to do a lot of data cleaning). The cost to ongoing support and build-outs is a bit prohibitive as far as I can tell.

I feel like it has a lot of features that we are not yet maximizing. I would like more hands on training with the basics.

Pros

Syncs with Quickbooks, easy to navigate within the profile

Cons

Report running is clunky and difficult. I wish the criteria input was more intuitive.
