Helpdesk support software at no charge.

Pros

I'm a 1 man IT Department servicing 65 mixed engineering and professional user base at an engineering firm. Here are the Pros: \* Easy to setup, just install on a virtual or physical PC or server. \* Doesn't use much in the line of resources in the background (I have it on a Core i5 desktop w/4GB of RAM that still gets used for light MS Office and Internet tasks) \* Tickets to track current and previous issues with a good selection of reports. \* Can make your own semi-customized reports.

Cons

\* Interface could be a little cleaner. \* Where they put some of the options doesn't necessarily always make sense, but can be figured out.

Pros

\- Keeping track of all of our programs, computers and equipment is a nightmare for any company. Spiceworks is a great no-cost option for small businesses that allows our IT department to install local monitors on our computers and update a central server with our software installations, license details including expiration/renewal dates and any issues detected by the program.

Cons

\- You do have to install every installation individually, which can be time-consuming. - We don't have a local server as everything is on the cloud. Our IT department had to setup a custom DNS and direct the local installations to report there.

### "Using the new cloud-based Network Monitor, and it's OK"

Pros

Free!!! Can I repeat that? It's free! And it runs in the cloud, on their servers. No need for infrastructure or a server. It's fantastic. Install an agent, and you have instant visibility into the PC. What kind of software is there? What's the motherboard model? It shows everything!

Cons

Having to install an agent on each PC in the organization can be a pain depending on how your organization is setup. And, honestly, there is no email alerting yet. The available applications to "check" against in the cloud version is also very low (currently only doing an ICMP ping to google.ca) but I guess that can expand in the future. The biggest con is that if you have a "team" in your Spiceworks, it's a bit of a pain to get the inventory cross-team. You have to login using the master account first, and then email them which other accounts need to have the same "key" so that the inventory is shared across the team. There is no way to do this within the interface yourself. Granted, their tech support team was extremely responsive and got it done, but they really need to build all of that into the interface.

Pros

Well, the price is right. Spiceworks is free. However, I definitely appreciate the range of features available in the software. The help desk is a lifeline for our department. Our network systems administrator is a big fan of the visualization tools which enable him to monitor the software installed on our network. There have been a couple occasions where Spiceworks has tipped us off in regards to potentially harmful software that needed to be removed ASAP.

Cons

The software's documentation is rather weak, and what we have learned has primarily been through trial and error. That said, the forums are fantastic and the community members are willing to help walk you through just about everything.

Pros

the ability to respond to tickets directly through email, don't have to log into the website to close a ticket. everything can be done from email.

Cons

attachments are shown as links in the emails, always have to find which link it is because signatures get attached as well.

Pros

Helps to keep track of inventory, use help desk ticketing system, track users, it's basically the beginning of any IT process. Used both the cloud and server install version, more options with the server install one.

Cons

due to the free nature, support is slow but that's totally reasonable. the hardest part is maybe configuring the server version versus cloud, but once you've figured it out and have the spiceworks agent installed , everything goes well.

Pros

We use this product for one of our biggest clients to monitor service calls as well as time it takes from when service is put in to when we respond, to when service call is completed. It really helps motivate the team to get things done in a timely manner.

Cons

We wish we could edit the calls easier, since the client isn't always accurate when entering issue they may be having.

Most satisfied until our company started to grow and we needed more functionality and analytics.

Pros

You can't beat the price when its free. Network monitoring is Ok but not the best. But when it's free, you can't complain. Also, the company has made advances in the product for better results. It's not Solar Winds but if you are looking at an entry level product, this is it!

Cons

It limited some functionality but that's about it. It's not as configurable as those that cost money but then again, you are paying for a product and you expect that functionality. Spiceworks straight out of the box is pretty good. The community is even better though. You can get a lot of great answers from the community.

This software is just fantastic, simply deploy, simply implementation, simple add on's. IT ticketing systems, Network monitors, asset finder, system alerts - simply well put together software.

Cons

Takes a whole bunch of server resources, so make sure to double what the suggested allotted amount.

The helpdesk is free for unlimited users, you cannot get better than this. This tool is great for setting up IT help desk in house.

Cons

Reporting can be a bit tricky to use and is not very intuitive on the use of some fields. Customisation is sadly limited.

Pros

It is extremely easy to setup, and manage. They offer a mobile app. It also inventories your network without many configurations.

Cons

While there is a lot of support it's hard to find support for the current version VS older versions.

I like that the software allows us to track and manager tickets quickly and efficiently. It alos allows us to manage inventory as well.

Cons

The free version is not as complex as the paid for version but that is with all of the software. We had to upgrade to use all of the features we wanted.

all together love using this software!

Pros

This keeps everyone in the loop in order to resolve any issues we may be experiencing. It sends notifications so our IT department can check back in to see if the problem was fixed.

Cons

When there are multiple people replying to a ticket you get too many notifications. This makes it hard to see who said what/when etc. It would help if you didn't get 2 emails for only 1 response but this doesn't always happen.

It does a great job as a ping monitor, it does show traffic information.

Pros

It works ok. Version 1.5 has bugs that are not going to get resolved, so stay with 1.4 if you can find it.

Cons

That Spiceworks is killing the project. It worked well and was on the right path before it's unfortunate demise.

Pros

Free helpdesk with an amazing community of experts. Notification system works wonderful and you can update tickets via email as well. Very easy for users to submit a ticket with desktop shortcut as well in a few simple clicks.

Cons

Dashboard can be a little noisy at times and takes a little bit of orientation before you get used to it. Non intrusive ads are on the free version, but they are not pop ups and are easy to ignore.

Spiceworks helped us move from spreadsheet based asset tracking to a cloud-based automated soution.

Pros

Our IT staff set-up Spiceworks to log system hardware and software performance, and other than a little icon on the taskbar I don't even notice it's running. It uploads my system specs to the virtual server where our IT team can monitor license expirations, system updates and hardware issues remotely.

Cons

We don't have a physical server in our office, so our IT team had to configure it to report to a virtual DNS. I occasionally have to update the DNS details in the Spiceworks client.

Check my entire environment always, when needed with complete information. Really easy to use.

Pros

Integrate do Active Directory easily; Scan SSH, WMI and SNMP devices; Schedule Network Scan; Populate devices with app installed and hardware Info;

Cons

Sometimes slow, when add lots of networks to scan. But despite this, no other points, as for small to big environments, it helps to have a central point to query for devices quickly.

Pros

This tool has a ton of great functionality right out of the box. It promises to give you great insights into your network as well! You are able to see things that you wouldn't otherwise without an expensive networking solution.

Cons

One of my beefs with this product is that there are always issues to be resolved within the network just to get spiceworks to tell you about the device you are trying to monitor. You can set WMI right, admin credentials, SNMP, and still there are issues that make you spend more time working on spiceworks than getting things done

We use this for our company that has around 700 employees. We only use the ticket portion, not the inventory or other features. For the most part we like it a lot. There are some things that I'd like to change like the sub tickets and email notifications being a bit messy but overall I like it

The email notifications have a lot of stuff in them that isn't needed.

Pros

It makes it very easy to manage yoir support tickets.Task assignments and reassignments are very easy. They also have a great support community to ask for help and also to learn from their trainings.

Cons

Missing some functionalities like attaching more than one document in the ticket. Customization is not easiest thing to do. And for some reason a lot of pur staff have problem with the portal link.
