### "Clio is the best option for a solo or small firm law practice"

November 4, 2019

5.0

After 3 years, I am still working at discarding habits and practices built up over 25 years as a practicing attorney to better incorporate 's feature into my daily work flow. One of Clio's driving philosophy's is to make lawyers more productive with their time, and make lawyers services more accessible to persons that need legal advice. Clio's focus on providing multiple access points, including mobile apps designed from the ground up with these two goals in mind, will pay off for both Clio and my practice in the long run.

Pros

The platform is not intended to be a closed, proprietary system. Instead, it forms the foundation for the day to day management of leads, clients, time, documents, and billing, supplemented by almost 200 third party integrations, with new offerings coming on line each month. Clio offers unlimited cloud storage and IOS/Android apps making all of your firm information, clients, and documents available 24/7. Clio continues to innovate and as the leading provider to small/medium law firms throughout the world, I don't worry about whether they will be in business a few years from now. Finally, all, yes all, of your data saved in Clio is easily exportable should you decide to change to a different vendor.

Cons

's growth means that feature changes must be more fully vetted as they are used by more than 150,000 legal professionals. As they broaden their perspective to encompass larger firms, the pace of change may continue to be more deliberate. The movement and management of files without a third party integration, such as FasterLaw, is cumbersome. Clio's own integrations with Office365 for emails and calendaring remain a work in progress.

Reason for choosing Clio

Largest user base and least likely to get assimilated or go out of business, forcing another vendor change.

### "Intuitive and Flexible"

December 5, 2022

4.0

I am happy with and the support they provide. It's helped keep the firm, as well as our third-party answering service, organized and consistent.

Pros

The ability to integrate other software enable using other software to address aspects of which are good, but not great. As an example, Clio Management's task management is good, but there is not a kanban or gantt feature, but I can easily integrate with Asana, Monday.com, etc.

Cons

Some aspects address needs in a basic manner, but are not as robust as software which is specifically designed for a single purpose. Using the same example as mentioned in the "Pros" - the task management works and can be automated, but it does not have highly specific features such as kanban or gantt.Additionally, the syncing between Grow and Clio Manage could improve. The two do not sync completely - certain items (ex. emails, I believe) do not sync.Lastly, when trying to export specific sets of data, Clio is time-consuming. We had an attorney who left our firm, and providing her the information from her clients required going to each client and selecting "export" for each aspect of the clients' data (such as, emails, documents, contacts, transactions, etc.)

### "I've used Clio Manage for 6+ Years and Clio Grow for 2+ Years"

August 23, 2022

4.0

I've used since opening my own firm. Overall, I'm happy with their products and feel confident that I can get "at a glance" information on my active cases as well as my leads quickly. And, I can dive deeper into any particular matter or contact easily. I do wish they were a bit more tailored to small/solo firm practice - particularly in terms of the time investment in set-up and cost per license.

Pros

offers nearly comprehensive lead and case management services. Their support staff is responsive and if you engage them in a conversation about your firm's needs - they are eager to listen & learn. Since I began using it, Clio has steadily widened their offerings that are real value-adds. Their annual conference is a great networking & learning event.

Cons

Both products, but Grow especially, are very time-consuming in the initial set-up phase. Both products could be more robust for practice areas that don't involve litigation. Their support staff is readily available but in my experience can only assist in solving my issue about 10% of the time. Often some features I view as key are not available and it's hard to determine how the upvoting process of feature requests actually works. The pricing structure is frustrating and could benefit from adding a different tier for restricted or limited users (like paralegals and admins). While all the features and new additions are nice, as a solo practice attorney I often find myself unable to take advantage of them due to the time involved in learning about & implementing them.

### "Clio Payments is a bad business decision "

March 5, 2023

1.0

Overall has been great except lately with this huge problem I’m having with collecting client payments timely and also that Clio is giving my firm contact info out to all its third party providers. I’m getting frequent sales solicitations about Clio product integrations, by email and phone calls. Not happy about more solicitations and don’t see any way of stopping Clio from encouraging its partners from calling and emailing my firm (wasting resources).

Pros

Easy to switch from LawPay. Integrated easily with (but so did LawPay). Supposedly lower fees.

Cons

Terrible turn around time for payments by credit card. 5-7 days! No explanation or customer service for the delays in processing time. Very difficult to switch back to LawPay - they make you schedule an appointment to talk to someone who takes your time to tell you how difficult it is to switch back to LawPay, plus they want you to cancel all your pending payments, which they didn’t require when switching from LawPay to . No regular reporting or monthly statements - you have to figure out the reports on your own and calculate the fees charged yourself and download the transaction history periodically. The fees are deducted first before payments are made, which skews the income tracking for accounting purposes. I.e., the client payments from bills don’t match the bill amount. The customer service representatives have no power and don’t seem to care one way or another, though the sales reps cared about switching you over to Clio payments! Is Clio changing from a great company with real people who are concerned with helping law practices succeed to a mammoth company just concerned with its own bottom line? It’s starting to seem that way.

Hi Dess, Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience. A Support Specialist has reached out to talk through your concerns in more depth and hopefully resolve them for you. In the meantime, here is some additional information regarding your feedback. 1. We do not share our customers' contact information with third-party providers. We also strive to only communicate relevant, useful information to our customers. That said, we've clearly missed the mark here and would like to work with you to adjust your communication subscriptions. 2. Clio Payments and LawPay have the same processing times. For both products, you'll typically see credit card payments processed in 1-2 business days\*. Here are some resources: - \*Clio Payments Credit Card Processing Times: https://support.clio.com/hc/en-us/articles/4409104905115-How-Long-Do-Credit-Card-Payments-Take-to-Process-with-Clio-Payments - LawPay Credit Card Processing Times: https://supportcenter.lawpay.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034332251-Credit-card-processing-times 3. With Clio Payments, you have the option to get your transaction fees deducted in one lump sum each month, the same as with LawPay. Here are instructions but our Associate Solutions Specialist would also be happy to adjust that for you: https://help.clio.com/hc/en-us/articles/9285813698075-Clio-Payments-Fee-Schedules Overall, we want you to know that we care deeply about the success of each of our customers. We look forward to speaking with you and utilizing your feedback in our continued endeavour to provide the best-in-class service.

### "Clio Practice Management is the Best"

August 18, 2022

5.0

Pros

offers features necessary for practice management and operation right out of the box; then goes a step further by offering an integration ecosystem that makes it an indispensable part of a successful practice.

Cons

While offers the minimum viable environment for online practice, the rapid growth of the company has left gaps and subtle shortcomings that veteran users will notice, while new users will be dazzled by the way it changes their practice.

### "Clio's billing system"

November 15, 2019

5.0

Overall, our experience with 's billing system has been positive - everyone likes the time entry. We are glad we went to Clio, its so much better than that other program we had been using.

Pros

We got specifically for its billing program. Its great that everyone can enter their own time into Clio. I like how Clio does “macros” \[they call them “text snippets”\]. They work without having to use a code key. The software is easy to use – for someone like me who is not a bookkeeper and hasn’t done a lot of billing before, it takes a little while to learn how to use it correctly, but once you know how things work, it’s a breeze. The very best thing about Clio, though, is its support staff! They are all great – it doesn’t matter who I’ve talked to they are all quick at getting to the root of my problem and showing me how to fix it. I have called other companies asking questions about their software and sometimes you just don’t believe what they tell you. It has never been that way with Clio – every one of their support staff is very knowledgeable and can quickly set you straight! Also, Clio is open to suggestions from us and when they get a certain amount of inquiries asking if “they could change this or that”, they will work on it. We have been using Clio for 2 years next month and there are a couple of things they have implemented that we had requested, which is really cool!

Cons

Spell checking in the billing software is not what it could be – it does have the little red underlines if it thinks something is misspelled \[like Word\], which apparently is easy for some people to ignore. It would be better if had its own dictionary and didn’t depend on the one in the browser. In order to do spell checks, we have to: export the time to a CSV file, spread out the column for the description, run a spell check and remember not to correct the errors there, but go back and find each entry in Clio and correct them there. It’s a little time consuming, and depending on how many typos each person makes during the month, it can be very time consuming, but its much better than reading the draft invoices word for word and finding the errors that way. It would be great if Clio could add spell checking so that it can be run in Clio without having to export and go back and forth. The only other “con” we have with Clio’s billing system is with discounting invoices. It is very easy to discount an invoice by percentage or a dollar amount, but Clio only applies discounts on the total amount of the invoice, including client expenses, not on time spent only, so we usually put in a dollar amount so the discount comes out to the amount we want it to be , although Clio still applies that amount to the entire invoice.

Reason for choosing Clio

Any other products never had a chance!

### "Clio Keeps our Firm Running"

August 23, 2022

5.0

allowed us to quickly get our law firm up and running. Since the start, Clio has allowed us to run our firm from anywhere in the world. Clio's integration with other platforms - like Quickbooks - has made it so easy to run a tech-forward law firm where all our technology speak to each other and get along! Clio is the best!

Pros

is the cornerstone that keeps our practice running. It is easy to use and easy to have all your data and information in one place. Clio's other amazing aspect is the number of other legal technology that directly integrates with Clio with ease! Clio has allowed us to be a tech-focused law firm and can handle more cases than we ever expected.

Cons

My only critique is that in Grow, I would like to see formatting in the documents

### "Still in Love! "

March 19, 2026

5.0

I am still drawn to that possesses rich case management features but definitely a more interactive adoption of user suggestions and expansion definitely of its reports is needed.

Pros

Taking into consideration the word "Overall" - the experience has been good. We experienced some minor hiccups in customer service this month, March 2026 which was resolved by escalation. The issue could have been quickly resolved had the representative looked at the issue commonsensically but it was a painful experience BUT one that was resolved. Resolution is the Goal right?

Cons

Thinking outside the box with some customer service representatives; I feel they should indeed lead to "opening the eyes" of the user with their insights.

### "Effective Product"

June 8, 2023

5.0

So far its been a good experience. It is much more user friendly than the last management software we were using.

Pros

The ease of use if the thing I like best about . Its very easy to navigate and figure out how to do something you might not have come across yet.

Cons

The thing I like least about is that it does not work well with QuickBooks. The expense entries do not import from QuickBooks separately, but all as one entry. Very annoying and time consuming to fix.

### "Clio is Essential to My Practice"

September 13, 2022

5.0

Pros

I have been a longtime user of and cannot imagine what my practice would be without it. It is hard to state what is most valuable: having access to all of my client's information at the touch of a button, or the ability to store and retrieve documents remotely from any location, or the secure feeling of knowing that all of my information is secure, or is it knowing that if I have any questions that the technical support is top notch? Perhaps it is just that the staff at Clio are some of the nicest people I have worked with from the sales and support team to the upper management.

Cons

If I had to find a "Con" about it would have to be that there are so many features and so many things that it can do that I just cannot imagine ever being able to utilize it to its full potential!

Reason for choosing Clio

I chose primarily because of its interface and operational abilities.

The company and the software have been great to work with. In 8 years, we have had zero issues. ClioCon is worth the time and investment to attend.

Pros

It is easy to use with intuitive features.

Cons

Not being able to reconcile bank accounts and close the year out. Also, I wish there was a tighter experience with Office365 to that we don't have to reconnect and reauthenticate the email plugin in Outlook.

Reason for choosing Clio

Because there were many integration options to pull data and store it in one location.

My experience with has been excellent. Honestly, Clio is more than a software company. So many different staff members have contacted me to ensure I had no issues with the software. Also, Clio has opened doors for other opportunities for me.

Pros

I love the ease of intake automation. As a solo attorney, my time is very limited. has changed not only my life but allowed me to have additional time to focus on my clients' needs.

Cons

### "Why Clio sucks and you'll only find out after investing far too much."

August 26, 2022

2.0

Eh... I should have cut my losses instead of hoping they will fix the glitches.

Pros

The HelloSign integration is the only reason I stay. It has the benefits of any basic CRM.

Cons

Customer service is horrendous. Sure they are polite and quite courteous in fact, however, it's like speaking to a brick wall. It's like everyone's drank the cool-aid. They avoid the acknowledging system limitations or errors like the pliegue which obviously comes from the top. There are far better CRM programs with true automation for far cheaper instead of the patch work of products branded as . I could get the same, if not better, effect with Zapier. Yes, I'm bitter because I've invested thousands of hours and dollars and now I'm stuck. As a sole practitioner, I do not have the money or man power to start all over again. I tell ALL my peers they are much better off using Dubsado and HelloSign than Clio. Tyring to get technical support is a time suck! The level of work/investment needed just to get the first tier customer support familiar with the product then explaining the issue is not worth addressing it AT ALL! They obviously receive minimal training and have NO real comprehension or experience with the Clio products themselves. It's like they are afraid to admin they don't know or they don't understand. They are just key word searching in the help index which I've ALREADY DONE!

### "Review of Clio From Attorney Owner At Small Firm"

July 26, 2019

5.0

I recommend to solo and small firm attorneys. It has a lot of features that you may not use but it is nice to have the option. In spite of its many features, Clio is easy to use. My billing and collections went up when I switched to Clio because logging time and billing is very easy and the gmail feature makes sure I remember to bill for mass of emails I receive each day. My calendar, matter and contact information is available quickly wherever I am. Clio has improved my efficiency and made my work day easier.

Pros

is very fast, even when I am accessing the full website on my ipad. I love the new add on for Gmail that allows me to bill directly to Clio from the email and even save the mail to Clio if I want. The program feels modern. The program is easy to use in spite of the many many features. I have three staff members, one under 30, one under 50 and one in her 70s. All three are able to easily use the program. I like the third party apps that work directly with Clio such as Dropbox, Invoice Sherpa , Gmail and Fastcase. Customer service is very responsive and Clio is constantly receiving significant upgrades.

Cons

Based on all of the options and information available in I am still surprised by the minimal reporting capabilities in the practice management side of the program. The basics are there but in my opinion there are many helpful reports that are missing. Even if Clio does not want to add additional reports, making an option for the user to create custom reports would be a good alternative. Clio added an option to require and maintain an evergreen retainer. That is very helpful, however, you have to send a separate request to the client for the evergreen retainer to be replenished. It would be much more helpful if you had the option to include the evergreen retainer request on the client invoice. My clients get confused when they receive a billing invoice and then on the same day or some days later yet another invoice with a new request for retainer replenishment.

Reason for choosing Clio

Continuous upgrades, many more features, easy to use, pleasing interface, strong and stable company.

### "Great app, easy to use "

June 19, 2021

I have been using for over 5 years, I have seen how they have been updating to the moon. I like how easy your job can be using this software. You can have access to your case everywhere, including on your phone(the phone app works fine too). If you work with a time, I can imagine a better option to do it, you all can see every movement everyone did in a case, it is amazing

Pros

I like how intuitive can be the software, it is very easy to use, they are always updating the app with better features, they have a lot of integration with other software.

Cons

The customer service is a little complicated to contact. I have been trying to contact them and first, we can be in the phone for a while, second, they will not be able to help me on the first call, seems like the customer service it is not very familiar with the app. Thank god, I do no have to contact them often.

### "You cannot rely on anything that employees of Clio tell you to be true."

January 20, 2023

1.0

Onboarding was a nightmare, with technical glitches that caused hours and hours of additional work and clean up. Syncing our contacts resulted in the destruction of our already used and curated list. Misrepresentations were made by salespeople as to what the software was capable of doing. As a result of all of that, we were made reasonable promises, in writing, as a condition of our not quitting right then, and cutting our losses and time. Now, the first time a change has come up where that promise needs to be implemented, we were told it would not be honored. This resulted in many more hours of back and forth with "customer service". We have wasted two years of integrating our firm with this company, which we now have to undo to go to another service, costing us untold more hours of work. If they had not offered these promises, we would have left Clio during the onboarding process. Although we would not have been happy with our experience with Clio, we wouldn't have felt as strongly about not doing business with this company. Now, we have no option but to leave this service, because we cannot continue to do business with a company that places such little value on their clients and on the promises that they admit were made.

Pros

I have nothing positive to say about at this time. Integrating our firm into their software was a major learning experience, which will guide me with the next software I choose.

Cons

The items added in the time that we have been with have caused no improvement to our use of the product, although they use these additions as an excuse for raising their prices significantly. The "client portal" that they added does not even allow you to see if clients have viewed documents, which their old version did. Their new payment system only adds to their profits, so why would they utilize that as an excuse to pass on additional costs to their clients?

### "Perspective of a 5-Lawyer Small Litigation Firm"

February 14, 2023

5.0

Very positive. I like that is customizable and that it offers robust features. Some of the features we use regularly, the bread and butter of our business, but other more advanced or niche features remain unused. However, regardless of what features you use on Clio, the platform does not force you to use or learn all of them.

Pros

Reliability. When I wake up in the morning and get my day going, I know that I can reliably access for information about my cases, contact information of my clients, and I know that I can keep track of my time. Since beginning to use Clio in Mid 2018, I cannot recall a single day where I was unable to access the platform. Plus, when new members or staff join my firm, Clio is intuitive enough for most people to pick up and begin using quickly.

Cons

I appreciate how much development and improvement actually goes into making better. However, one drawback for my business over the years has been tracking outstanding bills, unapproved draft bills, and sorting out what has been paid versus what amounts have yet to be paid. Perhaps some of these issues are user issues, but I think the system should be improved to alert users that draft bills remain in "unapproved".

The customer support had been good until the issue with the development team arose. They ought to fire everyone of the people working in that department starting with \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\].

Pros

The sales staff are good at staying in touch but once you sign up you never hear from them again.

Cons

The tech support people completely ignore their customers' needs. I have had a tech issue with the G-mail plug in for 3 months with no serious efforts to resolve the issue that are discernable from my end and a refusal to permit me to speak with the IT developers or upper management.

Beyond the tech, right from the beginning many years ago Clio stood out in customer service in terms of being very responsive, striving to find a solution to every problem where available, and being straight up in simply admitting that they don't have certain features developed yet and it's not available rather than trying to do a sales job or sugarcoat the fact that there will always be limitations in software meeting everyone's different needs perfectly. It's a very stable platform, secure, and the developers are even aware to do any sort of systemwide updates during times of low usage.

Cons

Maybe not so much a specific issue, but rather mostly us as a user limited capacity challenge, there are many integrations and improvements which we could be adapting into our system but have just become stalled in locking the bandwidth. Quarterly or semiannually review (soft audit) of how each business such as ours is using the software would be beneficial with a systems person from Clio providing a couple recommendations of next steps that our group could take that would have a significant impact on better utilizing the tools.

Reason for choosing Clio

Contemporary, ease of interface, intuitive and I could identify that they were just getting warmed up with more features coming.

Customer Service #1 for and Amicus had very poor customer service, constantly just providing the same solution (clear our cache lol) and the problems were so much greater. PCLaw was expensive and too resource intensive to make remote work impossible. Both had challenges trying to be desktop solutions moving into the Cloud whereas Clio was born and created in the Cloud, right when I was moving my practice into the Cloud and had previous poor experiences. In 2012 the Law Society of Alberta advised at that time I was the most cloud computing law practice in Canada and when I came across Clio in 2013/14ish I recognized its superiority compared to past experiences.

### "Whly I like Clio"

August 23, 2022

5.0

brought my practice out of the chaos of solo practice without assistance into the more orderly world of a managed office, at a price I can afford. I can't imagine being without Clio now.

Pros

has made the difference between practice killing me and practice being manageable. I have no formal training in business management, but Clio is accessible for a lawyer who would rather spend time practicing law than looking for account records.

Cons

I would like document automation that takes less cutting and pasting.

Reason for choosing Clio

Ease of use, possibilities of integrations, continues to add features without raising the price, tutorials that work, CUSTOMER SERVICE in all caps.

### "Implementation is tough"

July 3, 2023

4.0

It's cheaper than our prior system. It has more functionality than our prior system. It has tons of integrations with other programs, so we're using it for marketing and robust document generation. We're hoping to get the task sets and workflows set up soon to streamline file opening and operations together with finance and trust accounting.

Pros

Custom sets of templates for client types and matter types is great. There are tons of integrations with so many other programs to add functionality is dizzying. We're still learning all this program can do and trying to maximize our use of it through best practices, but we're very hopeful and optimistic that it's going to make our lives much easier and more organized.

Cons

The implementation by has been less than stellar. They've tried to integrate spreadsheets of information from our prior practice management software, plus other sources to get all of our client and matter data into the program. But getting the data migration specialists on the phone has been difficult. We noticed that one phase of the migration had not gone correctly, so we called and e-mailed like mad to make sure they wouldn't go to the next step of migration until we could get that prior data fixed. They ignored the calls and e-mails and went ahead with the next step. So that just compounded the problem by about 10,000 times. Now, we're having to go back through our spreadsheets to clean up the data again. Then they're going to have to somehow undo the migration steps they've taken already. Then we'll try it again. We've been using it almost 90 days, and we're still not at full usage yet, because the migration is so messed up.

Reason for choosing Clio

It had a larger installed user base with more third-party integrations and third-party consultants available for use in assisting us to migrate and implement it. Also, our outside accounting company is more familiar with it than any of the other programs.

[Firm Central](https://www.capterra.com/p/136050/Firm-Central/)

Firm Central hasn't been updated or given additional functionality in well over 5 years. No one else uses it, and it has no integrations with or support from third parties to add any more functionality. West has practically abandoned the product entirely. If they don't want to keep supporting it, then why should we keep using it?

### "CLIO is a life saver "

August 18, 2022

5.0

is a timesaver. All of my cases are at my finger tips and I just pull up and push a timer to start billing.

Pros

I love the why I am able to see how much money I am spending on each case; how much time i spend on cases all on the front page. This is a very user friendly program that is customizable to my specific business. I am able to set up case management depending on type of case and county of case. There are multiple video on how to use and customer service is awesome!!

Cons

I had no problems integrating this product with my business. The one feature I wish was here is being able to bill separately. I have figured a way to do that however, it takes a minute to make it work for me.

Reason for choosing Clio

It was more appealing to me and the cost vs. benefits to me were more attractive.

### "Clio at a mid-sized, full-service employment defense law firm."

March 24, 2023

4.0

Overall, has been a good choice, and has increased our efficiency as a firm. Due to the sheer number of solutions that Clio provides, we have been able to unify many processes, and scale accordingly as our firm grows. Two years ago, Clio did not offer document management that was robust enough to compete with Dropbox, which is why we use a combination of the two for our practice. However, with Clio's development, if we were evaluating this today, we may have moved our document management to Clio as well.Clio has a lot of flexibility to cater to the processes you need, however, with flexibility does come work. It can take time to setup and upkeep continual maintenance. Lastly, I do want to mention the personnel at Clio. Due to my position, I have interfaced with a lot of personnel at software companies. To date, Clio's staff has been the easiest to work with. In general, they are always very pleasant to speak with, respectful, and interested in helping you.

Pros

The Manage product offers an excellent practice management tool with enough flexibility that we can continue to develop new solutions to any hurdles we face. Primarily, Clio has been instrumental in:-Time Tracking-Data Base Management - for clients, opposing counsel, judges, mediators, etc.-Case Management-Invoicing-Data Analytics - for performance metrics, financial projections, etc.

Cons

offers a lot of powerful solutions, but is not 100% comprehensive. Often, when Clio is missing a feature, support will add it to their list of "feature requests" to be implemented in the future. While I fully appreciate Clio actively working on new features, some of the roadblocks we have hit feel surprising considering the software is built for law firms. This is mentioned in a previous section, but one of our current issues is in our pre-bill review. When discounting line items, they must be discounted at a percentage, rather than a dollar amount, which was not a problem we had faced in previous software.

### "A single source of truth and the center of our practice management universe"

February 1, 2023

5.0

Pros

is the center of our law practice management universe. It is our single source of truth and a trusted and dependable confidant for our robust case management needs.

Cons

(Manage) could benefit from enhanced features for CRM purposes. Clio's companion product, Clio Grow, is intended as a standalone offering--with limited integration between the two platforms--to satisfy those needs, but the disconnect between the respective platforms is a difficult bridge to gap. Other areas in which Clio could use some enhancement--but nevertheless hits the mark--are billing functions (invoice generation, external sharing, etc.) and document management.
