### "Affordable but missing features"

The overall experience has been mediocre. Their support is quick but really unhelpful. Either they don't know or send the wrong information. Often replies seem canned and do not relate to what was asked.

Pros

We really appreciate the cost of the platform. It's one of the most affordable options for a small company (<25 employees). We like the timesheet audit so you can see when the live clock in/outs were. Many other software options were missing that. The onboarding is a great process and allows us to customize per employee or department. Having employees be able to login and choose their location (office or remote) is why we have stuck with this software for now.

Cons

While there have been many updates in 2025, there are still things that are missing in PurelyHR or not compliant. The signing of documents is a useless feature. We can't see the signed doc (signature ON the doc). We can only see the employee signed it which would not hold up legally. Also, their vacation accrual is not compliant in Alberta. We have to use another software to calculate compliant vacation accrual. It needs to be based on vacationable hours worked and it's not. Having report templates would be great - we have to find, create, and customize reports every single time because there isn't a way to save a template. It's really inefficient. This is perhaps the most frustrating missing feature that would cause us to leave. While we are not completely satisfied with PurelyHR, it's the most affordable option for now but we do have to use several other software, plus excel docs, plus a payroll system, plus an ATS, plus others to get the info, reporting, and Human Resources features we need. It's definitely not a one-stop for all of your HRIS needs.

We've only had PurelyHR for about a year now and while there is a learning curve, it is very intuitive for the users.

Pros

I like the value for money. As a small non-profit organization, PurelyHR is very sophisticated for us and provides everything we need and at a cost that we can afford. Every time I have a question, the response has been swift.

Cons

Pro: the team did an amazing job setting up our organization profile however I didn't learn much for because it was done at lightening speed. I have found it to be a little confusing when onboarding new employees - but their customer service has been great!

Overall, the system meets our basic needs. There are several additional items that would make my life easier, but not sure if PurelyHR can offer those things.

Pros

I like the reminders it gives me for birthdays & anniversaries, along with the ability to push out onboarding checklists.

Cons

Some processes need streamlining, system glitches cause headaches, and I wish we could customize more. I’ve shared feedback, but unsure if it’s been used.

Overall I have found PurelyHR to be pretty straightforward and inoffensive. It is easy to set different accrual rates, and I do appreciate the colourful ux design of the site. It is slightly frustrating that vacation days left are not explicitly shared with staff members, this also impacts that accrual reporting that we do as it does require math on our part.

Pros

I appreciate that I can ensure that people have different visibilities, that all staff can see everyone's time off, but that only the manager can read the specifics of the request. I do also appreciate that that PurelyHR will let me know how many staff members are off on the specific date and week to help myself as the admin, and other managers better prepare for our week or day.

Cons

It is frustrating the PurelyHR does not explicitly tell staff members how many vacation days or sick days they have left. Rather, there is a column for the total number of days accessible to them, and a column for how many days they have already booked. Although our staff members can do the simple math, it is odd to me that PurelyHR would not just have a column that did the math already.

Our overall experience with PurelyHR has been wonderful. It is easy for staff to use, cost-effective, and gives us the information that we need in real time. The customization options are wonderful in helping to make the system fit our exact needs.

Pros

PurelyHR is very user friendly. Our staff is able to easily request leave and track their time. We have staff working in many different locations, so the website based system is perfect. The customization options allow us to set things up in a way that works best for us. On the payroll side, it is easy to import the information needed into my payroll system, making pay period entries quick and easy. The system is also very cost-effective, which is very important to us as a tax supported local government educational agency.

Cons

I really have not had any negative experiences with PurelyHR. When I've had trouble figuring something out, it has been easily fixed or explained to me by PurelyHR's support team.

My overall experience with PurelyHR has been very positive, especially when it comes to customer support. During the trial period, I tested a lot of different platforms, and PurelyHR was the only one where I consistently felt supported. Anytime I had a question, a real person responded quickly and clearly, which really stood out to me and was one of the main reasons I chose them. Since signing on, they have continued to check in on us in a way that feels helpful and genuine, not overwhelming or sales driven. It feels like they actually want to make sure we are getting what we need from the system. So far, everything has been smooth and easy, and the experience has been exactly what I hoped for when choosing a platform for our team.

Pros

What I like most about PurelyHR is how easy it is to learn. This was the biggest factor for us choosing it for our non-profit. I tried a lot of other trials, and even as someone who is pretty tech savvy, most of them felt confusing or had too many steps. PurelyHR was the only one that felt simple on both the admin side and the employee side. It also feels secure, and we have never had any worries about that. In terms of cost, the pricing seems similar to other platforms, but as a non-profit it was still outside our budget. They offered a non-profit discount, which made it workable for us. We are not using the onboarding or payroll features yet, but for employee attendance tracking it has been excellent. There are lots of options to customize things, but it never feels overwhelming or complicated to set up. The communication from the PurelyHR team has been outstanding too. They checked in on us during setup to make sure everything was going smoothly and offered one on one support, which we did not even need because the system was so user friendly. Overall, it has the right mix of being easy to use while still having all the features we need.

Cons

So far, we really have not run into any issues. We have our full team using PurelyHR and everything with the time off calendar has worked smoothly. We have not used every feature yet, so I cannot speak to onboarding or payroll, but based on what we have used, there have been no problems to report.

Reason for choosing PurelyHR

We chose PurelyHR because it was the only platform we tested that could fully support our needs as an adult-learning organization. It allows us to track leave in hours (not just days), apply different policies for full-time and part-time roles, manage multiple leave types, and set automatic yearly resets. It also provides a clean approval workflow, a staff-wide calendar, and the ability for employees to see their balances easily. Compared to alternatives like Timetastic, Absence.io, Humi, and others, PurelyHR offered the best combination of hourly tracking, policy flexibility, reporting, and built-in HR tools (onboarding, staff records, and document storage) at the scale we need. Other products were either day-based only, lacked policy customization, were too complex, or were significantly more expensive. PurelyHR was the only one that met all requirements in one system.

Good. However, employees find it hard to understand sometime. From an administrator's perspective, no issues.

Pros

Easy to use. The setup was fairly straightforward. We do not use all of the available tools in PurelyHr. However, we plan to look at more reporting options in 2026.

Cons

Some of the reporting. Would like more customizable options. We would like to be able to create more custom reports than the standard ones currently available.

Really good. I wish we used it even more than we do and the toolset and options are there for us. Again, customer services has been excellent and responsive.

Pros

We're a small business and PurelyHR provides an affordable way to track key HR and Admin tasks without investing in more robust (and ungodly expensive) platforms. It's a tremendous value and we're considering adding additional components in the future. Customer service has also been very good. We've been a customer for years and at times they have implemented ideas we've suggested.

Cons

They have added a lot of flexibility for performance tracking offering over the years. But I think this is the one area that could use further functionality updates to be more intuitive (specifically for Admins, not managers or employees) and perform like modern web apps. It doesn't change the equation – the platform is still an incredible value and this does not leave us looking for new solutions.

My overall experience using PurelyHR has been a good thing. It has simplified my work as the Executive Assistant and my work doing timecards and keeping track of banked time etc.

Pros

I like PurelyHR because everyone can see who is off and when, it's an easy way to keep track of banked time accumulated and taken and it helps me do up my timecards.

Cons

There are things that we need to be able to do that we can't do yet in PurelyHR such as putting a cap on lieu time as our staff can only accumulate a certain amount of hours.

Overall, my experience with PurelyHR has been excellent. It has streamlined our time-off management process and given our team clear visibility into balances and approvals. Our support interactions have all been positive, responsive, helpful, and easy to work with. I’ve used the system at multiple companies and would confidently recommend it to others, especially given the value for the price

Pros

PurelyHR is intuitive, easy to navigate, & incredibly effective for tracking PTO, sick time, and other employee absences. I implemented PurelyHR at my current company after being introduced to it at a prior organization. It solves a major administrative burden in a clean, user-friendly way. The interface is straightforward, adoption was simple, and the pricing is very reasonable compared to alternatives.

Cons

There’s not much I would consider a true “con,” but occasionally there are features I wish were a bit more customizable out of the box. That said, nothing has been a blocker, and PurelyHR continues to improve over time.

Completely improved the way we manage employees PTO. What a time saver and paper saver! Probably reduced our time spent managing PTO by 90percent.

Pros

The ease and convenience for both administration and staff. The record keeping aspect without a paper trail is probably one of my favorite features.

Cons

Can't say that I have one currently. If there was one thing, and it might be operator error on my part, but I would adjust the choice to limit the number of employee request on a given day to specific categories such as 4 employees requesting a personal day without restricting a sick day request if it's over the limit for requests.

I cannot and do not want to remember what it was like keeping track of all our payroll & leave time information prior to having this system. With having 10 different school district schedules, admin staff and part-time, I am able to have all of them set up through different offices which makes my life so much more organized and efficient. Thank you for the assistance!

Pros

I love the ease and convenience of the PurelyHR system. This is a timesaver for our organization. All of my leave requests, timesheets and even employee hire and resignation dates all in one place - easy access and dependability at its best.

Cons

The cost is expensive, but we made the decision that it is worth the price for the time and convenience it provides to our staff and administration.

I like being able to see all the staff and who is in/out each day. I also like that it lets each coworker know where they stand in regards to PTO left.

Cons

I think the accruals and time off plans are a bit hard to set up at first. I wish it were easier, as we have many different 'levels' of time-off, and standard hours in a day.

I have been with the company for over 10 years and we have had Purely HR even prior to that, it is part of our company norm and our employees are very used to it! The one drawback (which is why I have my review at a 4 stars) is that there is no app yet for a phone, employees still need to a use a web browser to access.

Pros

Responsive on support issues, Ability to meet our company policies and structures when it comes to time off. Easy to view and organize.

Cons

No app for phone, MFA is not through text and doesn't remember when logged in, certain functions (alphabetical), not allowing numbers as part of names.

Pros

The most thing we like about Purely HR is that it is extremely easy for our employees to request time off.

I honestly don't know if there is a con. Other than requesting the next years time off sometimes gets a little confusing. But we are easily able to figure it out.

We use Purely HR for staff to request time off. For this purpose, it is great and easy to apply. I think the price (even with a non-profit discount) is still high. Service is good.

Pros

Ease in requesting time off and efficiency in approval process. Replaces a manual process which took time and transferred through a number of staff in order to approve.

Cons

Hard to navigate through the different options. Attempted to set up onboarding for new staff but found it to be too cumbersome.

I love the ease of using the software. It is easy to add and delete people. I like the color coded items.

Cons

I wish we had the ability to role vacation time over a 13 month period vs 12 month period. Our milestone days have to be added manually and wish this could be automatic

We've been using Purely HR for over 8 years now and have never needed support nor have we ever considered moving off of it.

Pros

PurelyHR is a very easy and cost effective way to manage our time off. My favourite part is being able to reliably track everyone's time off and the ability to calculate what is owing once an employee departs.

Cons

Nothing comes to mind. It's all very intuitive and easy for staff and managers to share and use. We love it.
