Integration of Sunbird with other company or enterprise tools presents a huge opportunity for return-on-investment when assessing a reduction in manual labor of data custodianship. Pros The customer support is responsive and helpful through the process of tool adoption and migration. They were able to provide consultation on how to best address requirements of our internal processes and data needs. The cost model for the tool is simple and linearly scales with our hardware footprint. Cons At the time of this review, Sunbird DCIM is not available to be deployed as a containerized application which was not ideal for our on-premises usage. Sunbird DCIM does have a High Availability automated fail-over feature to provide some comparable benefits in terms of resiliency. Software that seeks to assist with the management and health of critical data center infrastructure should be up-to-date with the most modern software technology, particularly to address requirements of resiliency and performance. Management of hundreds of hardware devices such PDUs and sensors lost it's complexity. PowerIQ superseded our Nagios Installation for all hardware-related devices. It becomes more and more our primary trap host. Cons Compared to PowerIQ setup of dcTrack is complex. Integration of PowerIQ an dcTrack could be easier to use. (License) Price for integration of USVs into PowerIQ is definitely to high, as a result we do not monitore our several USVs via PowerIQ Reason for choosing Sunbird DCIM (x) PowerIQ offers the best integration for Raritan hardware. The decision for Raritan Hardware and PowerIQ have been made at the same time. The feature set covers everything I need in a DCIM much more comprehensively than other solutions I've evaluated. Pros Sunbird is a comprehensive and excellent DCIM solution. It's excellent and integration with existing CMDB platforms (such as ServiceNOW), and support is excellent and quick to respond to feature and new model requests. Cons The interface could be a little more intuitive, though in fairness excellent training is provided to familiarize you with the interface and functionality concepts. The technical and accounting staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. SunBird allowed us with a installation, configuration and was very helpful to answer our questions. They provide free training after the implementation. The documentation and the training videos are excellent. Pros Our team finds SunBird solution easier to use compared to Nlyte, no need for double entry between tools. Import templates are easy to use. No need to pay for upgrades and it is really easy to upgrade without vendor support. Weekly webinars and other videos are nice for the team to learn the tool on their own pace. The price of the software is considerably lower that other software. The technical support goes above and beyond. Cons Since we are doing a POC, we have not come across any cons. He has patiently answered extensive questions and spent many hours in live sessions helping our team become more comfortable with the platform. Additionally, Sunbird’s customer service team has been extremely responsive to submitted tickets and consistently follows up until issues are fully resolved. Pros We use dcTrack as a one-stop shop to reduce the manual effort of maintaining spreadsheets. It saves us significant time during audits, troubleshooting, and project planning. Beyond our initial goals, it has exceeded expectations by enabling accurate tracking of customer racks and allowing us to set detailed, role-based permission levels. Cons It would be beneficial to have licensing options based on the amount of equipment within a rack, rather than paying for a full rack license when only a few devices are installed. In this way, planning can be done on a cabinet basis. Since cabling can be done, we can see which switch or router any device is connected to from any port. Apart from these, you can manage your inventory from here, thanks to the new warehouse system. Pros The application interface is very simple to use. Thanks to the constantly updated device list, all devices can be added and placed in their places in the cabinet. Apart from these, the datacenter structure can be displayed in 3d. In this way, capacity planning can be done on cabinet basis. Cons Sometimes problems can occur when removing cable connections. " April 1, 2019 5.0 Utilizing Sunbirds DCIM Tool dcTrack has made me more efficient at my job and helping the teams that use it work more efficiently as well. dcTrack has become our Gold Copy so to speak with regard to tracking our assets. It helps the Operations team find devices quickly, without having to look in multiple places for where assets should be. Sunbird has created a do it all tool that works, it does what it says it will do and the level of support you get with it is first rate. I can use my DCIM tool to help keep track of network ports, and empty cabinet space and run power reports.... the uses and possibilities are endless. Pros The Visualization of my datacenter floor. i find myself in it all day going cabinet to cabinet. This portion of the tool gives you 3d CAD rendering of your datacenter that you can quickly click on a cabinet and take you to the device you are looking for. This feature also is very useful is seeing cabinet temps, power usage when paired with smart PDU's oh and one of my all time favorite features in this Visualization feature is the ability to measure out cable. You can click on measure in the menu and then click a point on your datacenter map then trace out where your cable will run and go point to point. It gives you an accurate distance so you know which cable lengths you will be using. Just one of the many various useful elements of dcTrack. Cons I do not have many issues or complaints with regard to dcTrack. The issues I do come across tend to be buggy new release issues that once called into the Sunbird Support Team, it's handled and rectified quickly. For example there was an issue with having to load up Adobe Flash when opening a certain tab in the software. The issue was isolated to this one tab and only when using Chrome did it come up. The Sunbird team was quick to correct this and on the next software update release, it was addressed. I dont' have enough characters here to list everything I like about this software. I'll sum it up like this, all of the questions/requirements you may have for your system, that start with, "can I do \_\_\_\_\_\_ with this system?", the answer is yes. Some features are harder than others to get setup. Power connectivity, for instance, takes into account your building's entire power chain. From the building UPS, up to your rack PDU's, utilizing any available management information those devices will offer up. Unless you know a lot about industrial power (I do not) then it could be a difficult feature to get working. That being said I was able to get things up and running with a Sunbird support staff who are not just extremely knowledgeable of their applications, but have expertise in every facet of every infrastructure area that the system supports. The applications are also visually stunning that they are easy sells to management and are "no-brianers" to justify for purchase. Cons My biggest complaint about the software is a development paradigm of dictating what can be done or not in the system, even if you may feel like you should be able to proceed with an operation. An example of this is that the system, when implemented as deigned will not allow you to make a network connection between a SFP port of a switch and a copper NIC. This, even though these connections are possible using copper GBIC's. There is a workaround for this, of making all of your different port-types to "twisted-pair" which constitutes a minor inconvenience. The important thing is that the Sunbird Support staff have always come up with a work around for the particular incompatibilities in our environment, of which there have not been many. June 28, 2019 5.0 We have not achieved production functionality yet but overall great! Pros Features, ease of deployment with some reservations to importing assets and setting up a db, overall look and feel, automation, precision and wide scope of functionality. Cons The process of getting your existing assets in is quite gruelling if you are not using Service Now as your asset management system. Collating and matching data to dcTracks standards is very challenging for the project team. We are going to use your turn key service to ease the process. Reason for choosing Sunbird DCIM dcTrack was great from the presentation. Implementation needs work on the customer communication and "hand holding" a bit because your system is a beast and needs a driving licence to run. That's also what is great about it , you have presented a lot of functionality in a clear and accessible way. Some improvements in the UI are always needed but this should be the standard part of your budget's R&D side. The future of datacentres is full automation + AI what is so widely overhyped nowadays and is nothing but a bunch of algorithms with no self consciousness. Nonetheless the future software that will run it will be integrated from the hardware delivery/deployment automation to the software deployment level. Full monitoring will be in place and a policy driven "AI" decisioning system in place. As you can see the future "software" will be a single entity. That's why Sunbird will play it's cards right partnering and integrating the most advanced solutions on the market. It has a lot more easy to use functionalities to migrate/ add data & realtime dashboards to view graphs/data. Also they provide new release versions every 4-6 months to add new features and fix bugs reported in the existing version. Cons As its a third party tool, we wont have direct access to their code base and DB, to fix any bug found during our implementation, rather have to create a ticket and they'll take a look at it and will release a hotfix for the existing version/ fix it in the next release version. Lots and lots of features Pros Before Sunbird, we were managing our data center inventory with a simple spreadsheet, but now with Sunbird DCIM, we're still able to simply manage a spreadsheet, but along with it we're able to extract much more concise and informative data, graphs, and dashboards for all our planning and expanding needs. Cons It's great having an entire models library (40,000+ unique models) at our disposal, however since some systems can have different options(ports, PS, etc) there can be some tweaking of the models required, but that's entirely personal preference and optional. When there is a version update, there are actual changes that is visible that make the product better. Pros Sunbird is great at being able to manage all assets that are parts, switches, servers, PDUs that are onsite, or decommissioned. It allows us to look up what a customer asks for and tell them exactly where it is or where it was. Cons When a model is wrong on an asset, we have to decommission it, change it, then re-install it. Pros The learning curve was not steep. We're able to manage over 80 global data centers effectively and plan for power, space and remote monitoring. Cons The initial hardware descriptions for some devices were incorrect and made bulk imports difficult. July 1, 2021 5.0 For me as a daily user and a part of the administrative team, the experience has been phenomenal. The product itself beats the one it replaced HANDS DOWN. The customer service -- responsiveness and product knowledge -- ranks with the best I've ever seen in my 25+ year IT career. Pros Product is extremely intuitive and reliable. Interfaces are clear and easy to navigate. Cons The interoperability between DC Track and PIQ, while helpful, often creates obstacles for adding new devices due to perceived current overloads.
