I really wanted to try like it but ended up not choosing it for the simulation software my company uses.

Pros

It was a very pretty way to show simulations that have real potential to be useful to show off to champions and project sponsors.

Cons

I tried very hard and have a lot of background in simulation and couldn't get to a point where it made sense for our company to use it, I wasn't confident in the mathematical rigor of the simulations, and couldn't train my coworkers to use it,

It's been rewarding, in that it's allowed us to visualize a lot of things we hadn't previously. The customer service has been phenomenal and they're constantly pushing out revisions to improve the user experience and add features.

Pros

It's relatively easy to get a model going on a high-level. It has been very useful in fleshing out concepts for work cell designs and visualizing process-flows, bottlenecks, etc..The customer support is the best I've seen for any software. There's an online community where the developers will answer, in detail, any question asked within an hour. And they will work with any user directly on their model to resolve issues.

Cons

The software isn't very robust. It has a number of errors you have to weed through, particularly when you're trying to model something that isn't a pre-defined object. Something as simple as making an operator in the model pull a single box off of a pallet that's in a rack took a week and multiple questions to figure out and required programming multiple objects in C++. Bringing in a 3D model for a machine can be frustrating, due to the way sizes are defined. It typically drops in about 1000x larger and takes awhile to get sized correctly. There is no object edge detection. Operators and vehicles will natively travel through any object to get somewhere. So you have to designate paths and boundaries which can eat up processing speed.

I really enjoyed using FlexSim for modeling fluid manufacturing systems.

Pros

When learning FlexSim, I noticed that the learning curve was much shorter than other simulation packages due to the auto-script creation. FlexSim has the capability to allow the user to select an object, and see all parameters of that object, and you can automatically create a line of script utilizing that parameter. It makes scripting efficient and easy to learn.

Cons

How cumbersome the process flow diagrams can get.

My overall experience with FlexSim has been basically of uncertainty with it being a new software that I do not find easy to use and has not been implemented with my company. The training was disappointing as there were technical issues and we “hit the ground sprinting” from my experience of not knowing how to start a new project and then too large of a group to get the specialized assistance needed.

Pros

What I liked most about this software was what I saw in a presentation that was able to simulate a logistics warehouse and was very helpful and informative for future clients to see actual 3D modeling showing more than be stated just in words.

Cons

What I liked least about this software was that the training seemed to not be directed at my industry as the first few days were very random and there was not a good introduction on how to use the software from a very basic understanding.

Alternatives considered

[AutoCAD LT](https://www.capterra.com/p/2011/AutoCAD-LT/)

Reasons for choosing FlexSim

From my understanding, we chose FlexSim over alternative projects as we were impressed with their presentation and abilities with a new modern product that offered free training as well.

It's been very enjoyable, and I found it to be very useful, though the learning curve we large at first

Pros

I loved the 3D accuracy, the real time modeling capabilities, accurate timed models and cohesive integration. Given time you can put a ton of details and specifics into the program (given the right skills)

Cons

Sometimes it'd crash or sometimes I'd have operators clipping through areas for no reason seemingly or simply not moving.

As an Industrial Engineer, being able to simulate production lines or a plant is essential to be able to analyze future improvement implementations. FlexSim is a free trial software, which allows you to perform these activities. Being able to create your entire production line, from adding machines, operators, warehouses, transportation, to manage time, different products that ultimately allow you to analyze what improvements you can apply in your processes or if you want to implement a new one, you can visualize it and see if it is feasible or not your ideas. To be able to make an infinite number of improvements or alternatives that can make your processes better. It allows you to show your managers or meetings how the new implementations will look like and make decisions.

Pros

What I like the most is that it has a simple interface and the free trial allows you to do a lot of things and use different tools.

Cons

There is nothing that I dislike, however, I consider that the graphics could be improved a little, but nothing that affects the purpose of the software.

Reasons for choosing FlexSim

Because it offers many tools and it's free.
