### "InSite Elevation Pro: The Future of Earthwork Programs"

November 4, 2025

5.0

After using another well known program for 7 years and only using Elevation Pro for the last year, I would recommend Elevation Pro hands down!

Pros

Elevation Pro is a great earthwork software. It is easy to learn with or without previous earthwork program experience. Elevation Pro is constantly improving with feature updates to increase your estimating/takeoff accuracy. Unlike some other earthwork programs, Elevation Pro is built on newer modern looking program base. This should allow it to continue to grow and improve without the need for a complete rewrite in the future. The value for the cost and the customer service cannot be beat!

Cons

Elevation Pro can have minor bugs and crashes like most programs. These problems are usually adressed quickly though.

Switched from

[AGTEK Gradework](https://www.capterra.com/p/10032864/Gradework/)

I switch jobs to a new company that was expanding their proconstruction estimating team. They were not using earthwork software previously.

Chris, thank you for taking the time to post this review. While we have over 30 years in this industry, the rapid changes in software platform development required us to start a full ground up re-write in 2019. The result is that Elevation Pro is solidly positioned for continuous development. Keep hitting the update button when you see it!

### "Great value, great product"

February 11, 2026

5.0

It's a great value for the money, and the customer support is unmatched, any questions I have are answered quickly and thoroughly.

Pros

It is user friendly, the software is robust, however the ease of use makes it less daunting to take off larger more complex sites with ease. Even with concept plans it makes it easy to generate a report and allows me to estimate earlier in the project which in turn makes bidding easier. It also allows me to redesign a site to allow for some value engineering where possible.

Cons

I haven't had any negatives yet. There was a learning curve for me, as I use it from a development standpoint and not as much for hard bids, but it is an invaluable tool in our toolbox for seeing if a site is viable for development.

### "A Powerful Takeoff Tool Backed by Unmatched Support"

February 21, 2026

5.0

My overall experience has been excellent. The software handles a wide range of construction site takeoffs while remaining reasonably priced, and I truly hope their pricing and support model never changes because both are major strengths. The InSite team consistently releases updates and adds new features, showing ongoing commitment to customer needs and long‑term product improvement. It’s a reliable, efficient, and cost‑effective solution that continues to deliver value on every project.

Pros

There are several things I genuinely love about . My number one favorite is the technical support team—I work evenings and weekends, and I always receive a response within hours, seven days a week, which is extremely rare in this industry. The next best thing is the ability to quickly paste EG/FG surfaces without having to take off each individual grade line, which saves a massive amount of time and eliminates repetitive work. Beyond those top two, InSite delivers excellent value for the money, especially considering how capable and consistent the software is compared to other takeoff platforms. I also appreciate the emphasis on data security, giving me confidence that project files and sensitive information are handled responsibly. The report generation tools are another major advantage—being able to print clean, organized takeoffs and provide clients with accurate totals adds a lot of professionalism to our deliverables. From an estimating perspective, InSite Elevation Pro significantly speeds up takeoff time and provides all the data needed to assemble a complete, accurate, and competitive bid. Features like trench takeoff with reliable spoils/backfill quantities round out the package and make it a dependable tool for real‑world construction workflows.

Cons

There really isn’t much to dislike about the software itself. Most issues you run into come from poorly created CAD files from engineers, not from InSite. If I could request one improvement, it would be the addition of AI that can read textures and help automate concrete, asphalt, and landscape takeoffs. That enhancement would elevate an already strong platform even further.

### "User Experience with Insite Elevation Pro"

February 16, 2026

5.0

Anytime there is an issue or I don't know how to do something, Insite's customer support is readily available and knowledgeable to answer questions. If needed, they can quickly remote into the program to look at it directly, not only telling me what to do but also showing me. Insite also periodically makes updates to take care of any gliches that may come up, and also add new features to improve program features and functions. for example, they recently added a feature to adjust the size of the numbers and letters that are printed on the printout maps, to match the size of the map and make them more readable when printed. Just like any estimating program, you have to learn how to input the information so it's useable when it comes out, but overall I've found this process relatively easy, and the reports very informative and useful. It creates accurate and useful data and maps very quickly and efficiently, and is a good value for the money.

Pros

I have been estimating for decades, going back to digitizer boards and early desktop computers. I've watched the evolution from them to takeoffs on multiple large monitors and lightning fast computers. Elevation Pro has proven to be very fast and efficient at inputting information. On multi-page projects, I can set plan scale and tie plans together in minutes. Being able to pull up multiple plan sheets simultaneously, I can cross reference and input data from multiple sources without having to get out of one to get into the others. While tracing contours, sloping lines, subgrades, etc., vector points pop up ahead of where I've traced, making imputing the data faster and more accurate.

Cons

The vector points are very useful, but they tend to be very jittery, popping in and out. Sometimes when multiple lines are close together, it can be like a wack-a-mole trying to click on them before they disappear again. It can be a little intense, but you get used to it. I would also like to be able to cut out sections of a subgrade, such as islands in a parking lot, without having to keyhole them, or rely on using higher numbered areas to accomplish this. Relying solely on numbered areas requires you to perfectly plan ahead for every contingency before you begin. If something changes or unknowns become apparent, you may have to redo some or all of the data. Fortunately, entering subgrade data is very fast, so it minimizes the hassle.

Response from InSite Software

February 25, 2026

Gary, thank you for the thoughtful and detailed review — we truly appreciate the feedback. Multi-document alignment is currently exclusive to Elevation Pro, and we’re working toward AI-assisted multi-page stitching (with user confirmation). Our goal is to keep raising the bar on speed, accuracy, and validation. Regarding the “jittery” behavior: this is caused by data preselection in single-layer PDFs where elements can’t be separated. The video under Help > Videos > Pro Tips > Magnetic Endpoint Selection shows how to harness this feature and improve efficiency. On CAD or layered files, isolating layers eliminates the issue. We also have a major release after ConExpo that addresses many of your other suggestions. We’re excited about what’s coming and appreciate you helping us continue to improve.

### "The Best Program for Estimation at this Point + Some Suggested Features"

February 11, 2026

5.0

The InSite team has been incredibly helpful and determined to see us successful using their program. As the sole estimator at my company, it is imperative to have a good estimating software and that I have the resources to use it. InSite has accomplished that. They also seem to be constantly hard at work ensuring further development and new features. I am excited to see an in-program material catalog, but am looking forward with greater eagerness to layered/phased proposed grades and phased subgrades, as well as an intersect tool for subgrades. These would be the biggest help in my personal process.

Pros

I like it's accuracy, ease of use, and wide range of features. But most of all, I'd have to say I appreciate the ability to quickly view (and review) the site you have created using 3D live views, and even to overlay your takeoff to real world views using export to KMZ.

Cons

The price tag might be a little disheartening, but it is worth it for the speed, accuracy and consistency offered by this program. I don't think we could create as many accurate takeoffs or submit as many bids without it. Not really a "con" but I also discuss features in my "overall experience" which I think would help me the most in my takeoff process.

February 24, 2026

Overall my experience has been excellent. has been very beneficial for our estimating department to be able to accurately take off earthwork projects.

Pros

Training. The training tutorials, videos, and classes make it very easy for a beginner with little to no experience learn how to use the software effectively. That was incredibly important for me and my company to be able to teach ourselves on our own time.

Cons

The cost. Overall the cost is very good for what you get, however, it would be nice to see the prices come down a touch.

Pros

has revamped our earthwork takeoff and estimating process. A slight learning curve to start, as expected when transitioning from previous version, but update provides cleaner interface and user experience. Report functions remain the same and integrate seamlessly into our estimating software.

Cons

### "Very nice program. I recommend it!"

October 24, 2025

InSite is very important for our company when it comes to the takeoff process. It helps us complete estimates in a very efficient manner while providing a very accurate result. The company I work for bids multiple jobs per week, so this program is high importance to us.

Pros

If you are looking for a reliable program to generate cut/fill quantities, this is the program for you. The program also has a awesome feature to build 3D models which allow for great visual presentations. The visual presentations in this software are top notch. Customer support is also very good!

Cons

Not really a con. But there is so much in this program to learn, that it can feel a little overwhelming at first. I can recommend to the other users, to be patient and practice practice practice! You will be thankful in the end when you learn the ins and outs.

The team that works there is the best part. They have been supportive and helped out a ton..even stying on the phone for over an hour until I got it,(shout out to \[sensitive content hidden\]) and they rest of the team. So thank you for that..definitely worth the money

Pros

For the most part it’s not too hard to wrap your head around. You can be doing a decent take off in a weeks time.

Cons

It would be nice to be able to highlight the lines you’re working on without the lines jumping all over the place. Going in the never ending list of lines in properties to turn something off is time consuming and annoying. But I need to get a little more familiar with program. That said still drives me nuts.

Response from InSite Software

July 25, 2024

Thank you for taking the time for this positive review. Reach out to the tech team for more, but there are a few resources that will help speed takeoffs. The first is under Help/ 2. Video tutorials/1. Magnetic Endpoint Selection. This video shows the most efficient way to select lines. Once you understand it's design you will appreciate the preselection ("jumping"). As for layer management, selecting a line will identify it's layer under properties. You can filter the layers using the techniques in Lesson 22.04 Finally, if you haven't taken the time to attend all of the classes, they are included in your subscription (Help / 3. I like the program a lot. I wasn't sure how it could be better than the original program, but somehow they did it. It's much faster and easier to use.

Pros

I love the ease of use. The controls are very user friendly. The program is excellent at snapping to lines for grades, stripping and subgrades, making the takeoff fast, easy and accurate. I love that you can adjust the point spacing to make thing run smoother and faster as well.

Cons

I miss the fact that it doesn't have the utility feature anymore. It was nice to have everything in one package.

### "Easy to use and excellent product!"

April 10, 2023

5.0

InSite is an excellent product. My company is a General Contractor and we use the system for takeoffs to assist with budgeting and reviewing subcontractors quantities in hard bids. My estimating team and I have utilized both their on site training classes and virtual classes to help us become proficient. Every update has been a step to make this easier and smoother to use.

Pros

3D Elevations are what we utilize most as it helps show our clients their end product. We also love to show clients options for balancing their sites to help add value and savings.

Cons

I miss the sloping lines option that you could click points in a line and make them connecting spot elevations. You kind of still have this option but it's not as easy as it was years ago.

Clayton, thank you for your review. The option to put in sloping lines did change a lot when the lines became more intelligent. The advantage over the old way is that editing the data is so much easier. I'd suggest signing up for Elevation Pro 101 (Select Help/3.Training) or look at Lesson 11. There is also another alternative where the line is put in and the Elevations edited. Lesson 23.06 covers this in detail.

### "Great Software at a great price"

February 20, 2020

4.0

Insite is an easy to use software that continues to improve and serves our company well. Each year it improves making take-off more accurate and less time consuming.

Pros

The software is simple to navigate. Intuitive controls are easy to use. Alignment of plans and CAD are simple to input and adjust. Reporting is well laid out and allows for simple navigation to needed data. The importing of Topographical data is very useful and simple. The learning curve was steep, but once the issues were ironed out, importing topo's from field data has been extremely helpful.

Cons

The functionality of line work is difficult. Once a layer is entered, it can't be adjusted. It has to be deleted and re-traced. This is for both grades, subgrades and line work. It is difficult to take an image of a take-off that is clear. We like to send our subgrade colored take off to our clients. There is no good way to take the image out of Insite without it being pixelated. The ability to export reports to Excel might be a useful option. Especially for companies that have proprietary calculations that they perform after a take off.

James, thank you for the positive review. If you are running V19 or newer, export to Excel is described in Lesson 14. One tip we have is to select RAW in the options setting during export. ### "InSite Estimating Software"

February 4, 2019

5.0

My experience with learning the the software program and knowing the software personally has made me more valuable to the owner of the company, thus my level of pay has increased. To the owner he know that he will get a accurate takeoff, knowing the quantities are spot on and I can produce more work, which means more jobs can be taken off in a short period of time.

Pros

InSite software has been a fantastic tool for me, I have been using the program for 10 years now and has saved me so much time on estimating a project. Just that in itself pays for the program. I have found that the quantities it provides is spot on. It takes a lot of the guesswork out on bidding, knowing that you know your material quantities and how much excavation it takes to get the job to subgrade elevations. The program was easy to learn, I like the way the team at InSite is there to help you if you have questions about the program. I like how they keep upgrading the software each year to make my job easier. I would recommend taking the classes they offer when first starting out with this program. It will make the learning curve come much quicker. One other thing I like is the result print outs, they are easy to read and comprehend. I have to admit that Insite has made my job much easier, and that means more jobs can be bid in a short amount of time.

Cons

### "Add 3D Cut/Fill Heat Map"

March 9, 2023

4.0

Pros

Provides 3D visuals to help understand the work required to get a site ready for building construction.

Cons

Having to manually select grade lines. If the program had the ability to 100% read and evaluate CAD files that would be incredible. Also, a 3D cut/fill heat map would be a great visual to show how much fill or cut is required in specific site areas.

Tony, thanks for the review. It's really easy to import existing and proposed CAD layers into Elevation Pro. There is a great tutorial in Lesson 22. Generally if the lines are elevated it's a few mouse clicks. We wonder if you mean automatically make adjustment for demolition/stripping and subgrade adjustments. That is a process you have to define from the CAD or PDF linework, but it's as easy as we can make it, with 3D Live showing the subgrade adjustments. We'd also add that if that was possible the quantities provided by engineering firms would be useful....... As for the heatmap, we've gone beyond that with Cut & Fill contours. There is a video here: https://youtu.be/vtIqUTKpMOg The advantage is the original docs can be overlayed and this can be exported to PDF/KMZ Google Earth, etc. One thing that gets lost is the granularity of the contours is completely adjustable. The default is 1 foot contours, but some flatter sites will be best set to .5 or .2.

### "Pro's And Con's from field standpoint"

February 1, 2019

5.0

Pros

Simplicity, This has its advantages and disadvantages. But the software was very easy to pick up on how to use. training videos were great and detailed. I have used this software for a year. Great program

Cons

This program has a few minor areas that would improve it from my preference point of view. I like switching from hi to low contrast (black to white screen) for the purpose of screen glare. I spend over 40 hrs a week on computer. The mouse arrow is locked in insite. the PDF screen allows color of mouse to change. Take-off screen does not. Therefore I cannot tell where my arrow is. This is annoying. Also, a dynamic zoom is equipped on the PDF side, this NEEDS to be on the takeoff screen also. This would greatly speed up the takeoff process!!! Please talk to someone about adding this. Last, the subgrade box should be expandable to where I can see all subgrade depths at same time. this is useful when sending a snip shot of the screen to other people A have a few other preferences, but they are non-important to the speed and effectiveness of the program

### "Estimators user review"

March 3, 2020

5.0

Experience has been great. Product has worked extremely well and the few times we have had an issue support has been great. Also like the constant updates to make the product evn better

Pros

The ease of use. Very simple to learn and the accuracy of the output is great.

Cons

Two things i woudl like to see. 1-I wish there was more flexibility with subgrades. For example if we get plan changes allow for editing of individual subgrades (ie change a #5 to a #6 within a group) Often times we get plan changes that slightly change specific areas of a plan and a little more flexibilty woudl be great. Also would be nice to see more than 10 stripping section available

Reason for choosing InSite Elevation Pro

At the time the on screen contour input was much easier to use in Insite

### "Take off & GPS Modeling"

March 5, 2020

5.0

We utilize Insite for earthwork volume calculations for bidding and all throughout project construction for checking progress and as changes occur do to plan revisions or unforseen conditions. We also utilize the software for building GPS machine control surface files and also developing stake out points for field layout. Overall I have been utilizing Insite since 2001/2002.

Pros

I like how easy this software is to use for take-offs all the way down to surface modeling and creating point lists for field layout.

Cons

Reports that are generated could be a little better organized. Looking forward to the new version to see what changes are coming in this regard.
