### "A Powerful Takeoff Tool Backed by Unmatched Support"

February 21, 2026

5.0

My overall experience has been excellent. The software handles a wide range of construction site takeoffs while remaining reasonably priced, and I truly hope their pricing and support model never changes because both are major strengths. The InSite team consistently releases updates and adds new features, showing ongoing commitment to customer needs and long‑term product improvement. It’s a reliable, efficient, and cost‑effective solution that continues to deliver value on every project.

Pros

There are several things I genuinely love about . My number one favorite is the technical support team—I work evenings and weekends, and I always receive a response within hours, seven days a week, which is extremely rare in this industry. The next best thing is the ability to quickly paste EG/FG surfaces without having to take off each individual grade line, which saves a massive amount of time and eliminates repetitive work. Beyond those top two, InSite delivers excellent value for the money, especially considering how capable and consistent the software is compared to other takeoff platforms. I also appreciate the emphasis on data security, giving me confidence that project files and sensitive information are handled responsibly. The report generation tools are another major advantage—being able to print clean, organized takeoffs and provide clients with accurate totals adds a lot of professionalism to our deliverables. From an estimating perspective, InSite Elevation Pro significantly speeds up takeoff time and provides all the data needed to assemble a complete, accurate, and competitive bid. Features like trench takeoff with reliable spoils/backfill quantities round out the package and make it a dependable tool for real‑world construction workflows.

Cons

There really isn’t much to dislike about the software itself. Most issues you run into come from poorly created CAD files from engineers, not from InSite. If I could request one improvement, it would be the addition of AI that can read textures and help automate concrete, asphalt, and landscape takeoffs. That enhancement would elevate an already strong platform even further.

### "User Experience with Insite Elevation Pro"

February 16, 2026

5.0

Anytime there is an issue or I don't know how to do something, Insite's customer support is readily available and knowledgeable to answer questions. If needed, they can quickly remote into the program to look at it directly, not only telling me what to do but also showing me. Insite also periodically makes updates to take care of any gliches that may come up, and also add new features to improve program features and functions. for example, they recently added a feature to adjust the size of the numbers and letters that are printed on the printout maps, to match the size of the map and make them more readable when printed. Just like any estimating program, you have to learn how to input the information so it's useable when it comes out, but overall I've found this process relatively easy, and the reports very informative and useful. It creates accurate and useful data and maps very quickly and efficiently, and is a good value for the money.

Pros

I have been estimating for decades, going back to digitizer boards and early desktop computers. I've watched the evolution from them to takeoffs on multiple large monitors and lightning fast computers. Elevation Pro has proven to be very fast and efficient at inputting information. On multi-page projects, I can set plan scale and tie plans together in minutes. Being able to pull up multiple plan sheets simultaneously, I can cross reference and input data from multiple sources without having to get out of one to get into the others. While tracing contours, sloping lines, subgrades, etc., vector points pop up ahead of where I've traced, making imputing the data faster and more accurate.

Cons

The vector points are very useful, but they tend to be very jittery, popping in and out. Sometimes when multiple lines are close together, it can be like a wack-a-mole trying to click on them before they disappear again. It can be a little intense, but you get used to it. I would also like to be able to cut out sections of a subgrade, such as islands in a parking lot, without having to keyhole them, or rely on using higher numbered areas to accomplish this. Relying solely on numbered areas requires you to perfectly plan ahead for every contingency before you begin. If something changes or unknowns become apparent, you may have to redo some or all of the data. Fortunately, entering subgrade data is very fast, so it minimizes the hassle.

Response from InSite Software

February 25, 2026

Gary, thank you for the thoughtful and detailed review — we truly appreciate the feedback. Multi-document alignment is currently exclusive to Elevation Pro, and we’re working toward AI-assisted multi-page stitching (with user confirmation). Our goal is to keep raising the bar on speed, accuracy, and validation. Regarding the “jittery” behavior: this is caused by data preselection in single-layer PDFs where elements can’t be separated. The video under Help > Videos > Pro Tips > Magnetic Endpoint Selection shows how to harness this feature and improve efficiency. On CAD or layered files, isolating layers eliminates the issue. We also have a major release after ConExpo that addresses many of your other suggestions. We’re excited about what’s coming and appreciate you helping us continue to improve.

### "The Best Program for Estimation at this Point + Some Suggested Features"

February 11, 2026

5.0

The InSite team has been incredibly helpful and determined to see us successful using their program. As the sole estimator at my company, it is imperative to have a good estimating software and that I have the resources to use it. InSite has accomplished that. They also seem to be constantly hard at work ensuring further development and new features. I am excited to see an in-program material catalog, but am looking forward with greater eagerness to layered/phased proposed grades and phased subgrades, as well as an intersect tool for subgrades. These would be the biggest help in my personal process.

Pros

I like it's accuracy, ease of use, and wide range of features. But most of all, I'd have to say I appreciate the ability to quickly view (and review) the site you have created using 3D live views, and even to overlay your takeoff to real world views using export to KMZ.

Cons

The price tag might be a little disheartening, but it is worth it for the speed, accuracy and consistency offered by this program. I don't think we could create as many accurate takeoffs or submit as many bids without it. Not really a "con" but I also discuss features in my "overall experience" which I think would help me the most in my takeoff process.

### "Beginner review"

February 24, 2026

5.0

Overall my experience has been excellent. has been very beneficial for our estimating department to be able to accurately take off earthwork projects.

Pros

Training. The training tutorials, videos, and classes make it very easy for a beginner with little to no experience learn how to use the software effectively. That was incredibly important for me and my company to be able to teach ourselves on our own time.

Cons

The cost. Overall the cost is very good for what you get, however, it would be nice to see the prices come down a touch.

### "Many positives from previous software "

February 26, 2026

Pros

has revamped our earthwork takeoff and estimating process. A slight learning curve to start, as expected when transitioning from previous version, but update provides cleaner interface and user experience. Report functions remain the same and integrate seamlessly into our estimating software.

Cons

Toolbar and user interface did take a little longer than anticipated to overcome and familiarize self with. Also, not having the "zoom to" tools could be possible improvement.

### "Best Bang for the Buck"

February 11, 2026

5.0

Overall my experience has been great for takeoffs and allows me to check for blowouts in my 3d model. We are considering moving to Trimble Business Center, simply because of the Geolocate use with our equipment, but otherwise would stay in a heartbeat, if you don't use Geolocate equipment (at least Trimble), this is hands down the best

Pros

Great value. Ease of use. They seem to be updating it regularly, which is great because it keeps adding features with no cost increase.

Cons

It does lag and/or freeze up occasionally, which could be my laptop. But I sometimes have to hit Control, Alt, Delete, but not end the program. Also, we use Trimble for our GPS equipment, there is no direct export for that type of file, so I cannot use the Geolocate to full advantage.

### "Very nice program. I recommend it!"

October 24, 2025

5.0

InSite is very important for our company when it comes to the takeoff process. It helps us complete estimates in a very efficient manner while providing a very accurate result. The company I work for bids multiple jobs per week, so this program is high importance to us.

Pros

If you are looking for a reliable program to generate cut/fill quantities, this is the program for you. The program also has a awesome feature to build 3D models which allow for great visual presentations. The visual presentations in this software are top notch. Customer support is also very good!

Cons

Not really a con. But there is so much in this program to learn, that it can feel a little overwhelming at first. I can recommend to the other users, to be patient and practice practice practice! You will be thankful in the end when you learn the ins and outs.

### "Cannot Live without Elevation PRO"

July 8, 2022

5.0

Botttom Line: I keep coming back to elevation. I have done Estimating for 3 different companies and now my own. and through out each I keep saying: "I NEED ELEVATION PRO" I have not found a better program yet!

Pros

Ease of use, User interface, and customer service. Unlike other software I am not bombarded with 200 buttons and a figure it out yourself interface right when I load the screen.

Cons

The only con I have ever had on this product throughout my time using it is the difficulty doing all the same take off and modeling, etc from a non vector PDF file. (Scanned in paper plans) but I also understand why this can be hard to code into the program

Review Source

Response from InSite Software

September 12, 2022

Rosendo, thank you for the review. You are correct, scanned PDFs (non-vector) are very frustrating. All the intelligence of the original vector data has been replaced with an image made up of rows and columns of pixels. Zooming up on these type of file in Adobe Acrobat will yield a stair step rendering on diagonal lines. Take-off time is increased, and accuracy is decreased with these types of files. If a scanned file is the only source, it still beats doing by hand or with a digitizer system. A quick call to the GC or Engineer asking for the original file will often yield a vector file and you will get all your speed and accuracy back. We appreciate your business!

### "Great Software at a great price"

February 20, 2020

4.0

Insite is an easy to use software that continues to improve and serves our company well. Each year it improves making take-off more accurate and less time consuming.

Pros

The software is simple to navigate. Intuitive controls are easy to use. Alignment of plans and CAD are simple to input and adjust. Reporting is well laid out and allows for simple navigation to needed data. The importing of Topographical data is very useful and simple. The learning curve was steep, but once the issues were ironed out, importing topo's from field data has been extremely helpful.

Cons

The functionality of line work is difficult. Once a layer is entered, it can't be adjusted. It has to be deleted and re-traced. This is for both grades, subgrades and line work. It is difficult to take an image of a take-off that is clear. We like to send our subgrade colored take off to our clients. There is no good way to take the image out of Insite without it being pixelated. The ability to export reports to Excel might be a useful option. Especially for companies that have proprietary calculations that they perform after a take off.

Review Source

Response from InSite Software

April 16, 2020

James, thank you for the positive review. If you are running V19 or newer, export to Excel is described in Lesson 14. One tip we have is to select RAW in the options setting during export. It won't bring any formatting to the values, which is appropriate for most situations. You can also drag along cells to cut and paste.

### "InSite Estimating Software"

February 4, 2019

5.0

My experience with learning the the software program and knowing the software personally has made me more valuable to the owner of the company, thus my level of pay has increased. To the owner he know that he will get a accurate takeoff, knowing the quantities are spot on and I can produce more work, which means more jobs can be taken off in a short period of time.

Pros

InSite software has been a fantastic tool for me, I have been using the program for 10 years now and has saved me so much time on estimating a project. Just that in itself pays for the program. I have found that the quantities it provides is spot on. It takes a lot of the guesswork out on bidding, knowing that you know your material quantities and how much excavation it takes to get the job to subgrade elevations. The program was easy to learn, I like the way the team at InSite is there to help you if you have questions about the program. I like how they keep upgrading the software each year to make my job easier. I would recommend taking the classes they offer when first starting out with this program. It will make the learning curve come much quicker. One other thing I like is the result print outs, they are easy to read and comprehend. I have to admit that Insite has made my job much easier, and that means more jobs can be bid in a short amount of time.

Cons

InSite has been great to use and the demo team was very thorough in teaching the software

Pros

InSite was able to get us into earthwork contracting. It was quick and easy to learn the take-off process and 3D modeling is a great tool to review any hidden issues in the takeoff.

Cons

The tracing feature can be buggy sometimes.

### "So easy a cave man can do it!!!"

February 24, 2023

5.0

I really like the system and if I can use it for anything I do. Being able to get a pretty close to accurate dirt moving take off allows me to bid more competitive versus looking at plan profiles.

Pros

I had no clue how to use Insite or heard of it when I started estimating. I opened up it up and it was almost a step by step once i figured out what everything meant. If I had any questions, customer service was there to help and show me how to use certain features of the system for my application. Now I rely on it for any type of dirt take off I do.

Cons

### "wanted items"

February 26, 2020

4.0

I enjoy using insite, I really enjoy not having to use paper plans and a digi pad (old paydirt user) so that alone was huge for me, I would like to be able to get the cut/fill map in contours and I would like to be able to print it with the rock alert shown and the square footage of rock would be nice to know as wee. The other thing would be to get the lineal footage of a perimeter or subgrade, I do a lot of budgets and when I traced the subgrade of a building I need the footage for the foundation portion of the bid. Would also be nice to be able to calculate the slope of a basement grade up to the surface

Pros

ease of use, things are very intuitive to use. I can't imagine going back to a digi pad! love the screen takeoff and that we don't need a key anymore, can take my laptop anywhere and get a takeoff done

Cons

### "Coming of Age"

March 2, 2021

5.0

My overall experience with InSite has been exceptional. The staff is courteous and helpful no matter how dumb I seem! I believe that renewing the license in full yearly is a deterrent and maybe consideration should be given to go to a yearly users fee like the competition. 3 or 4 years of this gets to be expensive.

Pros

The support staff is second to non. I should know, after not using computerized takeoffs for 13 years, it was trying for me as many things have changed. The stacking of subgrade select materials and the and the automatic contour assignment are great. The self drawing contour lines certainly is a timesaver also. Calculating select materials totals in each subgrade is handy also.

Cons

For me the job and section copy is difficult but I think it's just me. I have a hard time relating "subgrades" to layers like I am used to. While entering contours, there is a tendency for the line to go askew and attach itself to another line if they are in close proximity of cross due to drafting. More likely than not I have to correct that on my input.

Kevin, thank you for your support all these years. The Job Copy tool is extremely powerful but can be confusing and is currently being redesigned. As for the contour issue, reduce the Vector Gap distance and if you have a layered PDF, un-select Active on all but the layer you are trying to import.

### "Project Manager / Estimator"

February 8, 2019

5.0

Back in 1990 I started out as a junior estimator from being a surveyor. I could do take offs the old fashion way that took days to complete. I heard of two different software companies that could do the same thing a lot faster and more accurate then the old way. I tried them both out and Insite was the most people friendly one and easy to use. I was surprised how fast take offs could be completed. I checked a project that I previously took off by hand and it really checked out very accurate. Over the years Insite has become faster and easier to use if you can believe that. From digitizing on a board to being able to use PDF & CAD files. To show you how much I liked Insite every company I have worked for after 1990 purchased the same software. I was responsible for 13 copies of Insite being sold and they are still being used today. I even purchased the last copy of Insite myself so that I can perform take-offs for myself. I wouldn't use anything else.

Pros

I like how easy it is to take off project plans to get accurate quantities.

Cons

I can not say that there is one thing I like least about this software.

Gary: It has been a pleasure to work with you over the years. We are constantly developing faster, more accurate systems that validate graphically your numbers and to read what you wrote verifies we are on the right track.

### "InSite Siteworks is great with room for improvement"

February 20, 2020

5.0

InSite has been a pleasure to use and see implement new features over the years. I'm excited to see where they continue to improve. Support is also top notch!

Pros

Recent added features are excellent (i.e. cloud licensing). Subgrade from line-work is probably my most used feature that has been introduced in the past 3 years. It is a huge time saver! The reports are nicer, and being able to see the 3D model of the existing or proposed grades allows you to see if you made any input errors.

Cons

The way you can accidentally copy over a section if you aren't careful. I've done this once before and it was a time killer. Not being able to reassign a subgrade "section" a new number. Not being able to create a subgrade from an existing subgrade (i.e. creating a curb from using an asphalt outline with an offset). Not being able to edit the shape of an existing subgrade. Increase the number of strata levels allowed to be entered. The pipe utility is probably our least used feature and something we would use more if given an overhaul.
