### "InSite Elevation Pro: The Future of Earthwork Programs"

November 4, 2025

5.0

After using another well known program for 7 years and only using Elevation Pro for the last year, I would recommend Elevation Pro hands down!

Pros

Elevation Pro is a great earthwork software. It is easy to learn with or without previous earthwork program experience. Elevation Pro is constantly improving with feature updates to increase your estimating/takeoff accuracy. Unlike some other earthwork programs, Elevation Pro is built on newer modern looking program base. This should allow it to continue to grow and improve without the need for a complete rewrite in the future. The value for the cost and the customer service cannot be beat!

Cons

Elevation Pro can have minor bugs and crashes like most programs. These problems are usually adressed quickly though.

Switched from

[AGTEK Gradework](https://www.capterra.com/p/10032864/Gradework/)

I switch jobs to a new company that was expanding their proconstruction estimating team. They were not using earthwork software previously.

### "Great for Beginners and Pro's!"

February 23, 2026

5.0

Insite Elevation Pro has been a tremendous asset to our estimating team. From simple, quick take-offs to elaborate, multi-phase projects, Insite can handle it.

Pros

Insite Elevation Pro is very easy to learn and use. 3D Live makes it easy to spot any take-off issues. The staff is always on call, ready and willing to help with any questions.

Cons

Insite Elevation Pro is an ever evolving program. Regular updates keep things running smooth and often come with new features. If there's something you don't like, let them know. It might just get incorporated into the next update.

### "Great value, great product"

February 11, 2026

5.0

It's a great value for the money, and the customer support is unmatched, any questions I have are answered quickly and thoroughly.

Pros

It is user friendly, the software is robust, however the ease of use makes it less daunting to take off larger more complex sites with ease. Even with concept plans it makes it easy to generate a report and allows me to estimate earlier in the project which in turn makes bidding easier. It also allows me to redesign a site to allow for some value engineering where possible.

Cons

I haven't had any negatives yet. There was a learning curve for me, as I use it from a development standpoint and not as much for hard bids, but it is an invaluable tool in our toolbox for seeing if a site is viable for development.

### "Best Affordable Earthwork Takeoff Software on the Market"

March 4, 2026

5.0

Overall I am very pleased with my use of InSite Elevation. It saves me countless hours of cut and fill calculations, provides very clear and accurate results, and is very user friendly. The technical support they provide to their customers is great, and the development team is very active about optimizing the software to it's customers. My only caveat about the product is I do still use other takeoff software to do measurements besides the cut and fill quantities and surface square footage. That being said, the combination of InSite and another software like Bluebeam is still far cheaper per month in subscriptions than the more expensive earthwork software out there.

Pros

The accuracy of cut and fill quantities for the amount of time spent working on a project in InSite Elevation can provide is top notch. To complete a cut and fill by hand and calculate it on your own to the degree of detail InSite can do would take exponentially more time.

Cons

The takeoff tools provided in the software that are not cut and fill related(linear foot measurements, area measurements, counting) are not as adequate compared to other takeoff software out there.

Overall happy with the product, definitely room for additional features but provides a quick way to generate accurate earthwork quantities.

Pros

We’ve been very satisfied with our experience with InSite. We’ve been using their software for several years now, and will continue to do so in the future.

Pros

We really enjoy the customer service we receive from InSite. They are always quick to answer any questions we may have, and have promptly walked me through any issue I’ve had.

Cons

I wish InSite would offer a training class in the Atlanta area. We would like to learn how to incorporate CAD files in our takeoffs, and feel that would be a good opportunity to learn how.

Thank you, Taylor, for taking the time to share such a positive review — we truly appreciate it. We offer our Regional classes near major hub airports, and I’ve added your vote for an Atlanta session. In the meantime, I recommend the Elevation 102 and 103 classes, which cover CAD import and other advanced techniques. These sessions are led by a live instructor and provide great hands-on guidance. You can register by selecting Help > Training within the software. This topic is also covered in Lesson 22 of the User Manual, along with the accompanying video. ### "Insite Elevation Pro"

March 3, 2026

Overall this is a great program that helps us effectively bid jobs and to be accurate. It is also great that support is available when needed.

Pros

The ability to to take a complex jobsite and clearly illustrate quantities of materials, cut and fill, and measurement tools, with a lot of reporting readily available.

Cons

The worst part of Insite Elevation Pro is getting all of the data put in when the software cannot identify the vector data on a PDF, which then requires manual tracing of all vector data.

After learning the system, a little more, I enjoy using it for my dirt take offs. The 3D model helps give a visual of what the project will look like then complete.

Pros

Customer Service was very helpful, the videos on their website is very handy to help walk you through the system.

Cons

Not new user friendly. Some plans it doesn't pick up contour lines, so it takes a very long time to do a take-off.

Overall this is great for a beginner in takeoffs and just learning. This software can get you your earthwork calculations but if you are a bigger sitework company its not suitable imo. I got this to avoid getting agtek but the features just aren't strong enough for what we want it to do. agtek is probably what we will be switching over to next year so we can utilize all of those features and services. I have also communicated with a customer service guy who told me that i was wrong when I said red always indicates cut and green should always indicate fill. The color shading is backwards. I asked for him to look into the ability to change that and he basically blew me off when the owners of my company directly asked me to come to you with that question.

Pros

Very easy to use and has a lot of features. Its as simple as you could hope for but accurate in quantifications.

Cons

They don't provide a cut/fill map only elevations. So, you won't be able to see your cut/fill when looking at the model. There is no integration to cell phones or the ability to perform takeoffs for roads from cross sections. There is no way to overlay in google earth such as agtek does. you should have a point and hot key for cutting or inserting a point in a polyline.

Response from InSite Software

September 12, 2022

Keegan, we appreciate your review. Export to .KMZ was released with version 2022.2 and makes export to Google Earth easy. Make sure you have updated to the latest version. Instructions are in Lesson 27 in both the user manual and video. Once you have exported to a .KMZ, anyone on your team with a smartphone/tablet can walk the site and see running cut and fill or any other data. As to the cut and Fill colors. The 3-D you are looking at indicates Elevation, not Cut and Fill. Use the Cut and Fill Contours (Lesson 3.08) which indicate cut in red and fill in blue. Make sure you adjust the interval. The default is 1, but often production planning will benefit from a lesser number (.5, .2,.1, etc.) so adjust as necessary. This overlays the cut and fill in plan view directly on the PDF/CAD file. Keep clicking the blue button as features are released. If you have any suggestions for new features, please send them to support. We are listening and intend to keep your business.

### "Solid Software for Takeoffs & Tracking"

February 11, 2026

5.0

It’s helped us save time, keep information in one place, and cut down on errors. Anytime we’ve had questions, support has been quick to respond and very helpful. Overall, it’s been a solid investment for us, and I’d definitely recommend it to other contractors.

Pros

We’ve been really happy with Insite Elevation Pro. It’s made our takeoffs and overall workflow a lot more organized and way more efficient. The system is easy to use, so our team was able to get comfortable with it pretty quickly. One of the biggest advantages for us has been the accuracy!

Cons

If I had to pick one least-favorite thing, it would be that some features take a little time to learn at first, but once you get used to them, they work really well.

### "Faster Takeoff Time"

February 11, 2026

5.0

Takeoffs are less stressful now. Elevation takeoffs take a lot less time to complete. Subgrades go quicker with the ability to trace areas more precise. Look forward to getting the next project to do another takeoff.

Pros

Takeoffs go much quicker now that we have upgraded to Elevation Pro. Every time I use Elevation Pro, I find ways to make the takeoff quicker and easier.

Cons

Haven't found any negative things with the takeoff. CAD takeoff takes a little longer since I have only used PDF's .

July 19, 2023

5.0

Pros

Simple to use. Accuracy is uncanny. Absolutely love the quick clicks for highlighting contours. It took some getting used to for how simple it was.

Cons

The only con I have encountered so far is having to guess at the alignment rectangle size when scaling multiple pages together without an overall site map. However, I don't think twice about it because I have only come across this scenario once (the plans we were working off of were lazily put together from the engineer).

Joshua, thank you for your review. When we did a ground up rewrite of our software starting in 2018, the goal was to make it as easy and productive as possible. Your comment of "It took some getting used to how simple it was" was shared around the halls of our office. Our team works very hard on that goal. You will be happy to know the clock is ticking on the alignment rectangle. The plan is to have it set by the boundary in a future release.

### "Accurate & Constantly improving"

February 20, 2020

5.0

The confidence when submitting bids knowing your quantities are accurate is worth it's weight in gold. I highly recommend attending the training seminars. After nearly 15 years of using this program, I'm still learning new functions and shortcuts.

Pros

The accuracy of this program never ceases to amaze me. From small sites to large sites, the quantities are always spot on. The team at InSite is constantly looking for ways to improve the software. The PDF takeoff makes it much more portable, making it easier to travel and work directly from work sites. The new cloud function access to the program gives peace of mind not having to worry about where I left the USB key.

Cons

The PDF takeoff function works great when the PDF file is in vector format, however when it isn't, which can be common, it becomes very cumbersome and time consuming to perform the takeoff.

April 16, 2020

JP, thank you for your positive review. We are glad you find value in the training classes and the accuracy InSite provides. For anyone reading this review, most PDFs these days are vector, which mean the individual contours and footprints are drawn with stored lines, arcs, etc. much like a CAD file and offer easy selection. Scanned paper documents are a photograph of a document and require actual tracing of the data. A call to the engineer to see if the original plans are available is well worth the effort as they are almost always available and will most likely be vector.

It changed all my way to do estimates. I hope the development team continues improving the software.

Pros

I like the way the software gives the information, and the reports, because of the list of materials. Digitizing is quite easy with this software, a small child can do it.

Cons

Many times the addition of new planes makes the software a little slow, making the typing equally slow.

### "Great Earthworks Software"

March 5, 2020

5.0

As a specialty contractor, we use this software exclusively for earthworks, and do not use some of the higher-level utility and building functionality. Prior to getting InSite, we used a program that imported earthworks lines by hand with a digitizer. By switching to InSite, we were able to save hours in digital contour selection. Nowadays, most of our clients will give us vector PDF or CAD files, so the earthworks calculations are even faster. I could not imagine going back to digitizing by hand, so I consider this software to be essential for our company.

Pros

Saves tons of time, especially when we can import digital files.

Cons

Not the most updated User Interface, although I understand that is about to be updated with a new software version release. Tying earthworks data into google maps could be a little easier and more intuitive as well.

Reason for choosing InSite Elevation Pro

Best value for what we needed, which was strictly earthworks.

### "InSite for small dirt contractors"

March 4, 2020

5.0

Overall we have been extremely pleased with InSite and have recommended it to at least 2 other contractors we know.

Pros

The functionality and ease of use is by far the best we have seen compared to the other earthwork programs we have used. The program has all of the features we would expect at a price point that fits well in our budget, especially when compared to some of the other 'big name' programs available on the market.

Cons

Our only complaint so far is the stripping reports / cut fill reports do not distinguish between topsoil stripping and demolition items, separating the stripping qtys between topsoil and demo has to be done manually as far as we have found. We do not input boring information, so that may be a way around that. We have not downloaded the latest version yet however and from what I've read several changes and improvements have been made and we are very excited to see what they are.

Reason for choosing InSite Elevation Pro

Price point and functionality were the main factors. We get everything we need plus some out of InSite, at a much more reasonable price.

Sean, thank you for your nice review and for promoting InSite SiteWork. To get a breakdown of Stripping/demo areas, when you enter Strip/Demo, itemize the material in the material section. ### "Insite Elevation Pro 6 Stars!"

February 24, 2023

5.0

I have had a great experience with InSite Elevation Pro. Leveraging its powerful features to improve project outcomes, while benefiting from its user-friendly interface and customizable design options has been incredible.

Pros

Insite is a powerful tool, It has accurate elevation measurements, an easy to use interface, easily integrates with other software and is very customizable.

Cons

When creating a subgrade, contour, stripping area, site boundary, etc. Not being able to add a point is frustrating. You either have to add another one or delete it and redraw it if you don't have enough points.

### "Best Dirtwork Takeoff Software Ever."

March 2, 2021

5.0

There are only two employees in the office to handle all administrative, estimating, and project management duties. It was essential for our company to streamline the takeoff process in order to efficiently and accurately complete estimates in a timely manner. InSite has made this possible for us.

Pros

This software is very intuitive. After learning a few shortcut command keys, my takeoff times have decreased by half from my previous takeoff software. I am impressed with the ability to visualize the data and make adjustments as necessary. The feature that sold me was vector recognition, and especially the ability to trace broken vectors. I use that on every single takeoff.

Cons

I would love the ability to export takeoff quantities right into our airtable database. We have heard of a new, more user-friendly interface that will be available, but we haven't seen it yet.

### "Great, easy to use program with terrific customer service"

December 5, 2022

5.0

Pros

With the latest update, InSite Elevation Pro is definitely the most user friendly earthwork software that I have used in order to generate cut / fill quantities and to generate some other useful images as well. The software allows you to build 3d models with a click of a button, and cut / fill shading schemes which allow for great visual presentations. The plans can also be exported to Google Earth Pro which is also a really useful feature. Training and customer support are also top notch. If there is a question about the software, chances are the answer is right in the user manual with a video to accompany it.

Cons

There are a few features that have not yet been transferred to the newest update of elevation pro (mainly area cut / fill), but from what I have heard, these features, plus more will be coming soon. I do not have many cons with this software.

It's a significantly better version than what we had in SiteWork and makes retaining wall and foundation staging and other layback scenarios really easy. Next time you are running Elevation Pro, take the time to click the update button and you'll have it. The instructions on using it are in Lesson 21. Intersect, Offset, Multi-Select, but it's so easy to use you can probably just figure it out.
