"Unsolved Tech Support, No REFUND for product not working as promised. "

**Overall:** I would not recommend Mailchimp based on our experience with their SMS automation product, technical support, and customer service. We paid for Mailchimp because we needed a working SMS keyword automation for a major giveaway promotion. The basic function we needed was simple: a customer texts a keyword to the Mailchimp SMS number, receives the automated SMS response, and completes the entry process. Unfortunately, the product did not work consistently. Multiple test phone numbers texted the assigned keyword, but the entries did not reliably show in the dashboard, did not appear in the queue, and did not receive the automated SMS response. Out of several attempts, only a small number completed successfully, which made the product unusable for the promotion we were trying to launch. The bigger issue was the support experience. I spent days trying to troubleshoot this. I rebuilt flows, archived contacts, tested multiple phone numbers, used different browsers, cleared history, tried incognito, and attempted to provide screenshots and documentation. Instead of getting clear help, I received confusing and conflicting answers. One support interaction suggested the problem was a trigger setting. Another response said the SMS action needed to be placed immediately after the trigger. Another said contacts needed to already be in the audience before texting the keyword, which defeats the entire purpose of a text-to-join keyword campaign. At one point, the Mailchimp chat window itself became part of the problem. The live chat would not close, and because it would not disconnect, I could not access support normally. I repeatedly tried to close the chat and even sent multiple messages asking for help because I was stuck in the chat window. Mailchimp later acknowledged this as a known behavior their development team was addressing, but that did not help me when I was actively trying to solve a time-sensitive campaign issue. The file-sharing process was also frustrating. Mailchimp asked me to upload screenshots through a portal, but the portal would not let me upload anything. Attachments I tried to send by email were apparently redacted by their system, which meant I was being asked to provide proof and documentation but was not given a working way to do so. After all of this, we asked about canceling and receiving a refund because the product was not working for the purpose we purchased it for. The response we received was that the only way to cancel was by downgrading to the free plan, but we were told the account could not downgrade again because it had already been downgraded before. That was extremely frustrating because the prior downgrade was not us canceling after using a paid account successfully; it was the account moving from a trial/previous plan situation. Instead of resolving the issue or refunding us for a product that was not working, Mailchimp offered pausing the account as an alternative. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating software and support experiences I have had. We paid for a service that did not perform reliably, spent days trying to troubleshoot it, were unable to get timely or effective technical support, were denied meaningful cancellation/refund help, and lost valuable time on a promotion that depended on this feature working. Based on this experience, I would be very cautious about relying on Mailchimp for SMS keyword campaigns or any time-sensitive marketing automation.

**Pros:** I liked the idea of having email and sms marketing abilities in one platfrom. However, I have yet to get them to work sucessfully.

**Cons:** Customer Support, Billing Support, Tech Support - all chat, no actual help. No real live person to help, no real answers when their product does not work as promised. No support when their product fails.

**Alternatives Considered:** [SimpleTexting](https://www.capterra.com/p/145859/SimpleTexting/), [Klaviyo](https://www.capterra.com/p/156699/Klaviyo/) and [Twilio](https://www.capterra.com/p/180158/Twilio-Communications-Platform/)

**Reasons for Choosing Mailchimp:** Because they offered both text message and email for an affordable price.

**Switched From:** [Clearstream](https://www.capterra.com/p/158103/Clearstream/)

**Reasons for Switching to Mailchimp:** To have text messaging and email marketing in one platform.

"The marketing campaign expert that knows how to grow my audience"

**Overall:** An immediate boost to my credibility and brand image. My emails look professional, which inspires trust, and segmenting my lists allows me to better understand my audience so I can send the right message at the right time.

**Pros:** When I wanted to step up my communication game, Mailchimp stood out as an obvious choice. What I love above all else is its drag-and-drop visual editor. Without having the slightest background in graphic design or HTML coding, I can design beautiful, professional newsletters that are perfectly adapted to smartphone screens. The automation tools are also incredibly effective: I set up an automated welcome email sequence for new subscribers, and the system works for me in the background. The detailed statistical reports allow me to see exactly who opened my message and what they clicked on.

**Cons:** The pricing structure has become my biggest nightmare. I find that the prices increase exponentially as soon as my contact list grows. The worst part is that Mailchimp includes unsubscribed or inactive contacts in the billing, forcing me to do a recurring and tedious manual cleanup to avoid paying for empty space. Additionally, by adding so many features over time (website creation, CRM, social media), the interface has become a bit bloated, and I sometimes get lost in the menus trying to find basic functions.
