Very readable (for a non-math person) and the "suggestions" (time, branding etc. are always welcome and perfectly on task) Pros I like the templates. they're not the most "creative" but it makes sending out an email so easy!! Cons I understand that the bigger the audience, the more it would cost, but once you're paying (2000+ audience) then there are more competitively priced products. Plus, the 2000+ audience numbers include unsubscribes, why? If someone unsubscribed, then why shouldn't my total number in my audience drop to only the ones that are actively receiving emails. May 18, 2019 3.0 Pros I've been a Mailchimp user for several years. Haven't used it a ton, but occasionally send out newsletter to a small audience of around 800 people. It's very easy to use, and comes with some starter templates, and an easy way to add some customizations. Deliverability has also been solid. From 2017-2019, they have been moving away from email marketing into a complete marketing, CRM, retargeting & ad management tool. Read on for why this has pushed me to another service. Cons I want an email marketing platform. One that stores my contacts, makes it easy to send emails, gets them to the inbox, and gives me basic stats. That's it. I'm willing to pay a small fee each month, but I'm not asking for a whole lot. I initially went with Mailchimp because many people \*used to\* recommend them, and they had a free plan for up to 2,000 contacts. They still have that 2,000 contact free plan, but they've been stripping features from it steadily over the past 2 years. And they even count unsubscribes against your contact count. Not to mention they are now counting test emails against your monthly sending limit. They are offering ad retargeting with Google & Facebook ads, giving you the ability to send postcards to customers, and everything is getting more complicated (their service, and their pricing). It doesn't seem to me like they're taking care of their big existing free user base (and hardly even their paid user base). They claim that users keep requesting they do more, but there's been a huge backlash (from users) with all these recent changes. Personally, and from a business standpoint, I'm not a fan. I'm in the process of researching an alternative. Leaning towards MailerLite, ActiveCampaign or SendInBlue, but haven't made a decision yet. Review Source Avash K. I can create, schedule and send professional emails to hundreds of clients in my contact list in just a few clicks. Being able to choose and edit well-designed templates is a feature that I like very much. Although it wasn't very easy to determine how to work around with Mailchimp at first, with experience - it's not that hard to use it. I have also started using Mailchimp in my personal blog to send emails to potential clients and I am enjoying it. I highly recommend Mailchimp to anyone looking for High-Quality Email Marketing Software. Pros I feel lucky that I got a .com domain name and their website builder for free for 5 years in an offer - and obviously, this is the thing that I like most about Mailchimp. Aside from that, I need to send monthly newsletters and other sorts of emails and I used Mailchimp to make the work easy. Mailchimp offers various customizable options and also offers well-designed templates that I can choose and edit - which makes our work very easy. While I started using Mailchimp just to send newsletters, I have been enjoying other features too. Cons In my view, the User Interface (UI) of Mailchimp isn't very good. Exploring Mailchimp was confusing to me when I just started using it. Some features are hidden and it's not easy to make sense of that pressing 'a' button does. I think the User Interface(UI) can definitely be improved. Apart from that, the mobile app of Mailchimp doesn't offer many features which is not a big problem for me as I do most of my work in PC. I also researched a bit and found that Mailchimp has a bigger userbase than Getresponse. I gave Mailchimp a try instead of Getresponse as I didn't need to pay any amount to start using Mailchimp. July 10, 2018 5.0 Free version was workable for our small business. We upgraded to a paid plan for another use-case of marketing/sales for our International event. Saved us a lot of time by automating the sending or emails, including our prepared auto-replies. The analytics tool is very handy in analyzing the reach and effectiveness of our marketing campaign. Pros We needed to send our tons of emails for marketing and sales promotion of our recent international symposium. MailChimp helped us tons by handling the sending our of the emails, monitoring the receiver interaction (wherein we were able to automate certain auto-replies/categorization thereafter). Best feature for us: The Analytics Tool - very useful to see how many were reached, sent, received, clicked on a link, etc. 2nd Best feature: The Auto-responder - you can already set the script or logic of your email correspondence based on the expected replies and prepared email answers. And of course, for the small (perhaps up to medium-sized) businesses, the free plan may be workable for you. Until you decide to upgrade to a paid plan. Cons If you're looking at a very wide audience / number of subscribers... this service may come a bit pricey. But hey, more chances of sales success as well. So just balance it. That by itself is the #1 reason why anyone looking to start a subscription list should try MailChimp first. 2nd reason people should try it...MailChimp collecting peoples' email addresses and sending emails out from blog posts -- that just works great once you get things set up. And if you want to send out just a regular email - not something connected to a published blog post - that's even easier. The 3rd thing I love is the ability to see who opens the emails and who doesn't. And some other helpful analytics about how people behave when they receive your email. You don't have to have a degree in statistics to understand the quick stats that MailChimp offers. Cons For some reason, the way they set up Campaigns and lists always slows me down. I don't know why. But if I have a client who wants me to do something quick, I have to slow down my thinking and figure out what part of either the Campaign or the list does that X task belong in first. An example: a client wanted me to have MailChimp mail something new out immediately to his recipients who subscribe to rss feeds. Here's where some time was lost: trying to determine how to avoid creating a new campaign for a one-off email to go to the list that receives rss feeds. We ended up posting on his blog, setting up a new time and date for MailChimp to search the website for new content (and then to send out), waiting for the email to get sent out, and then going back to the campaign to change the time when MailChimp sends out new posts. There's something a little clunky about it. Editing of mail templates is ... trying. It's not rocket science to make your own template, but again there's a clunkiness there. I had a client who was extremely specific on the design. If I edited "blogs" template while in use for "Weds blogs" and then selected "blogs" template for a new campaign - "thurs blogs" the changes I made in the template assigned to Weds were not reflected in Thurs blogs. Pros Honestly, it does what it's supposed to do quite well and has built in features that I would expect to pay much more for, one of which is the CAN-SPAM compliance. It lets me know when my campaign is getting a lot of un-subs and I can immediately react and shut it down and figure out why in order to make the next campaign a winner. Cons It's definitely a little complicated for the average user (me). Although I'm highly tech savvy, I'm not a marketing genius, so the way they've now set it up is a little complicated, even for me. Many elements of this tool are intuitive, and you can self-teach many features of this communications tool given the help guidance available. Bravo. The campaigns are easy to create and are polished and professional looking. This has allowed our organization to raise its profile and effectiveness of our main tenant ~ to bring information to, and collect information from our constituents, our school district families, and to bridge this parent base and our school district administration. Good communication and transparency between parents and administrators is of utmost importance. Mailchimp has allowed us to do this most effectively. Pros I like the ease and the use of the drag & drop functionality of the elements you can add to any campaign. I also like the formatting options and features to customize each of your messages to your own look and style. Also, being able to embed links, photos, etc. directly into the campaign is of vital importance for our communications. Managing the audience lists is also very user friendly. Tagging different audience members in group is also critical to our use of this communications tool. Cons I wish that the uploaded files were easier to manage in that I would like to delete older versions of uploaded files that I no longer need. However, they are "layered" in the Content Manager section and I am not able to un-layer them to delete versions I do not need. I would also like to see the functionality of embedding a simply polling tool, to send and collect feedback from your constituents to constantly better your business. Reason for choosing Mailchimp Four years ago when I began using this product, the startup process was easy and quick. Importing my initial audience was important. The growth of new audience members was not important as I had a closed audience of families in our school district. MailChimp quickly and effortlessly brought our Parent Organization communications to the district families from an series of email chains through classroom "room parents" to one centralized "voice" of our organization, which was timely, consistent and professional. This is an excellent tool for business that aren't ready to go big time with Hubspot or Pardot. Pros Mail Chimp is pretty easy to get started with for all the basic features. I like the list segmentation and management. The templates are "good enough" for most small business needs and can get the whole process running pretty quickly. If your CRM doesn't do email marketing, Mail Chimp is a good option. Cons Even though I said it's pretty easy to get started, I'm going to contradict myself and say it can also be difficult at various steps along the way. First, you should watch a few explainer videos to make sure you set things up properly. It really will make your life easier. If you set it up wrong in the beginning, it'll be a pain to get to where you want it to be. Then, at some point you're going to decide you'd like to have something different than their templates and find out that the system for custom templates can be a bear.
