### "A GREAT Starting Point for Small Business"

February 17, 2021

5.0

I've been using MailChimp for at least 5 years now as a starting point for new clients who have a really small email list, or no existing list at all, and want to collect email addresses via their website. While the embed code MailChimp provides is incredibly easy to use, I typically do a Gravity Forms > MailChimp integration to collect addresses that way. Everything I've ever needed to do in MailChimp has been easy, whether it's importing/exporting/managing contacts, creating email campaigns or viewing analytics from sent campaigns.

Pros

Generally speaking, MailChimp is one of the easier platforms to use when it comes to creating email marketing campaigns. Their visual builder is simple and intuitive, making it accessible to those who aren't as technically inclined. The fact that you can have up to 2000 contacts at no cost makes it a no-brainer starting point for anyone looking to build a small or non-existent email list.

Cons

The email templates available to free account users are okay, but they are happy to show all the premium templates alongside the free one's so you know just what you are missing.

Alternatives considered

[Constant Contact](https://www.capterra.com/p/31898/Constant-Contact/)[Zoho Campaigns](https://www.capterra.com/p/253223/Zoho-Campaigns/)[Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement](https://www.capterra.com/p/134593/Pardot/)

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

MailChimp has clearly invested a lot of time/energy/money into their GUI and making the user-experience a positive one. The fact that it's easy to find what you are looking for speaks volumes about the software. Other email marketing solutions I've used, while maybe more powerful, are clunky and bothersome to use. I find myself always coming back to MailChimp.

### "Easy to use and free!"

January 19, 2021

5.0

Overall, Mailchimp has been the best email solution for our nonprofit. It was very easy to learn for our team. It is intuitive and, best of all, free for all the features we need! I have not had any issues with it. I love the tracking and the ease of keeping multiple lists.

Pros

There are a ton of templates to make designing your emails easy. After that, it is simple to easy replicate that email or use the templates to create new ones. The emails are made of different elements that are easy to rearrange by clicking and dragging. It is easy to choose between text boxes, outlined boxes, pictures, pictures with captions, etc. You can customize the ratios between the picture and caption. It is simple to customize the background colors, font colors, etc. There is enough customization to make it look unique, but not too much to overwhelm. I also love the ability to publish easily to Facebook. There is also the option to send multiple test emails to different people to get feedback and see how it looks before you send out the final product.

Cons

Sometimes I wish there could be more customization with adjusting the picture sizes to the exact size I want within the frame. It's definitely something I have had to work around.

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

We switched so long ago that I am honestly not sure what alternatives we looked at. We were so impressed by MailChimp, I didn't need to look any further!

Switched from

[VerticalResponse](https://www.capterra.com/p/61128/VerticalResponse/)

The cost of Vertical Response was getting too high. We were also having formatting issues with Vertical Response, like the text changing to purple in the final email but not in the previews. It was a frequent problem that they weren't able to fix and we were paying too much so we looked for an alternative.

### "Simply the best for email newsletter campaigns!"

September 6, 2022

5.0

We have nothing but positive things to say about Mailchimp. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and then some.

Pros

We like to keep in touch with our email base and let folks know what's happening with our org, and MailChimp is absolutely the best way to do that. It allows us to customize our campaigns, keeps data on open rates, bounces and unsubscribes, and lets us customize the content so we stay on brand.

Cons

Our least favorite aspect is sometimes, colors don't exactly match up.

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

We chose Mailchimp based on reputation and ease of use.

### "Low level automation but easy to use email marketing software."

March 31, 2023

4.0

Our primary email software for sending marketing emails to thousands of targeted recipients at once is Mailchimp. With Mailchimp, we are regularly acquiring new customers email marketing.

Pros

In my opinion, Mailchimp is the most user-friendly email marketing platform available. I find that Mailchimp has some of the best email templates among all the email marketing tools I have used. Additionally, its preview functionality allows us to view how our email template will appear on various devices, thus helping to identify any design gaps before launching an email campaign.

Cons

Mailchimp falls short in terms of user segmentation and automation capabilities for our campaigns. Moreover, there are no options to edit an already scheduled email campaign.

### "Best email marketing tool so far"

January 28, 2019

4.0

My overall experience with the Mailchimp is quite good. I am quite satisfied with the service it offers. The best part is the eye-catching templates. It has helped me to increase my subscribers engagement with us. I can track what is working and what's not. I will surely recommend this to other business or website owners.

Pros

MailChimp is entirely a beast in automating the email marketing. I have been using this software for my site. We have been using it to grow and generate leads for our business through email marketing. I love MailChimp because it's straightforward to use software unlike other email marketing software out there. One feature that can be very helpful for a complete beginner is to let the new users use the software entirely at no cost till a limit of 2000 email subscribers. It will give them a good understanding of the features and usage of the MailChimp. One can easily create fantastic email templates without knowing even a single line of code. These templates are beautiful and will help to increase the CTR and hence generate leads. The paid version is also very affordable. It provides the ability to send beautifully and targetted emails to unlimited people. Through the A split testing, one can see whether what things will work and what's not? It is an excellent way to know the impact of a campaign.

Cons

The pro plan which is meant for the business owners is a bit expensive. Though, I liked the pricing of the pre-plan but, the pro plan is quite costly. Another limit which I would like to mention here is the inability to delete a subscriber list. Many times, it happens that a business potential targetted list changes. And, the owner wants to remove the old subscriber list. In this case, Mailchimp will only allow you to delete it if it has not been used since the past seven days. I mean, I want the freedom to cancel or modify it anytime I want.

### "One of the most efficient CRM for mailing!"

May 5, 2022

5.0

What is not to like about this software. All the way from creating highly customizable emails to having versatility with viewing and analyzing customer bases, Mailchimp is one of the best on the market right now.

Pros

Seemless integrations with websites and marketing flows. The sleek design and functionality makes it possible to link websites and this CRM. Integrations with zapier and mailchimp can do wonders.

Cons

The price tier is a little on the higher end, and for obtaining some features, the user has to pay large amounts. The pricing plan could be more flexible.

### "Mailchimp - Clunky, Expensive and not worth saving $15."

August 12, 2020

2.0

My experience with Mailchimp was horrible. I actually switched over to a different service (and I don't mind paying for it). The reason? Better deliverability, simple drag and drop automation, better pricing, better user interface... I basically took all my contacts and moved over to another autoresponder service. Mailchimp made me hate mailing.

Pros

The fact that Mailchimp is free to start using is all they have going for them. It's gotten a lot of people off the ground when it comes to email marketing. I do like how they have a plan that is completely free. They're also great about letting you export your contacts (as of a few months ago). Their signup form builder is okay too, just don't expect it to integrate well with Wordpress. (I had trouble getting the embedded form to actually work). You can also segment your audience, but that's where the positives end for me.

Cons

The problem is: I'm pretty sure the free plan has been neutered over the years. First off, you have to PAY if you want to SCHEDULE when to send your emails. I'm almost positive I used to be able to do that for free. Second, because their service is free... it attracts low quality mailers. That ends up hurting deliverability rates for everyone using Mailchimp (Deliverability = how likely you are to end up in someone's "primary" email vs promotions or spam). Third, their user interface is CONFUSING. I always had a ton of trouble navigating their system. I shouldn't need a tutorial to simply use your software. I shouldn't need to look up YouTube videos just to send a one off email to my list... Not to mention Mailchimp was SLOWWWWW for me. Before I go off on a rant, here's the cons: 1) There's no automation in the free plan. 2) Their paid plans are stupidly expensive for the lack of features you get (they suck you in for free and know it's going to be hard to switch email platforms - so most people settle and just pay more than they should for sub par features) 3) Poor deliverability (in my experience) 4) No spam checking built in 5) User interface is clunky and hard to navigate 6) They will likely deplatform affiliate mailers 7) You can't schedule when your emails send on the free plan 8) EXTREMELY limited campaign sequences in the free plan (it's basically worthless)

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

Initially I chose Mailchimp over other products because it was free to try. However, I quickly learned that you get what you pay for.

### "It's ubiquitous because it's pretty good at sending emails"

July 15, 2020

5.0

I like Mailchimp's corporate social responsibility, I've had a good experience the one time I called their customer service, and it's pretty bug-free for the most part. I don't think it is the future of communication, so I'll be curious to see how the product evolves, but we're sticking to it for now at my work.

Pros

I appreciate that Mailchimp has the functionality to build an email based on templates, or based on HTML. I find it easy to import email addresses as needed, I think there's a healthy emphasis on preventing spam, and I like the tagging and group features. I also like the demographics that it displays, the emphasis on A/B testing, and the predictions about the best time at which to send the email. I have very rarely made mistakes in my sends, and that I can attribute to the great testing features.

Cons

I wish it weren't so challenging to navigate between sections for multivariate emails and the old version of the website. I have run into issues setting up automated series such as for a welcome series of emails. I wish it were easier to export the data I myself put into Mailchimp without having administrator status. Finally, I dislike being warned about the possible cost of importing new data every time I do so, as that's not my responsibility to worry about in my role. Instead, I want to be celebrating our list growth!

### "Marketing Automation Done Right"

June 24, 2018

5.0

MailChimp is a great way to introduce users to marketing automation without a high level of risk. Competitors have steep pricing structures that tend to not allow smaller websites with limited budgets test out their features like MailChimp does. It is amazingly easy to setup and use and it has also become my brand of choice for marketing automation across my websites. MailChimp has amazing integrations with many platforms and are easy to use and setup with little or no development experience.

Pros

MailChimp is one of the largest marketing automation platforms in use today. And one of the reasons it has taken off so quickly includes the fact that they offer an entry level subscription that costs nothing. Literally, nothing. While limited, it still provides much of the features you will find with their paid subscription levels, it just has limits in the number of contacts and the number of emails you can send per month. Still, a great deal to test its features and functionalities. MailChimp is very easy to use and provides a host of features to help you market your site. All subscription levels, including the free entry level, lets you email campaigns, create amazing custom landing pages, pop-up forms, and create Ads with platforms such as Google, Facebook and Instagram. IN addition to these creation and publishing features, MailChimp provides automation features that allow you to create automated responses based on user behaviors. Manage cart abandonment and recommend products as well as receive notifications to all the activities taking place on your site. You can even customize your target audience through segmentation and groups, send times, time zones, demographics and other advanced features. But remember that not all are available in the free version. And what good is a marketing tool if you cannot see the results or track them. This, too, is another MailChimp strength. You get your basic set of reports and can perform A/B testing to see what works and what does not. One of my favorite features is MailChimp's integrations. I use it extensively with WordPress websites and not only use the plug ins created by MailChimp, but those from a multitude of third party developers who have done amazing things with integrations and features.

Cons

Although part of their marketing and not necessarily a Con, it is still fair to say that it would be nice to have some features with limitations available to the entry level for users to give it a run. Maybe a sampling of those would help in making a decision. But because of their affordable pricing structure, it is fair to say that their pricing levels are just about right.

### "Complete solution for email newsletters"

October 8, 2019

5.0

I've used Mailchimp in several contexts in non-profit educational sector and it proved fit for all these purposes. We've implemented it as the main newsletter solution for the two big mailing list of the organization (3k+ and 5k+ subscribers) to send newsletters (2 issues/month). As the organization has different target audiences it was very important to be able to segment the lists and to be able to choose who gets a particular issue of the newsletter (as some things are not always relevant for all the members who subscribed) and the app proved very beneficial in this respect. This allowed us to keep the users engaged with the list since they did not get too many issues that were not so relevant for them. Also, it is worth noting that the analytics part of the app is really great as you can track open rate, engagement and all other important aspects and can really improve your messages (subject lines, headlines) from one newsletter issue to the next based on this. Another thing worth mentioning is that the free version also provides good starting solution for non-profits (that I mostly work with) to send newsletters as it provides enough users to fit their needs at first and then you can choose to upgrade later when the lists grows, and since it is really easy to use you can even give the administration of the newsletter sending through Mailchimp to one of the volunteers, which was very beneficial for me in this non-profit context.

Pros

With Mailchimp it is easy to make the newsletter look good on different devices and it guides you through the process so you don't omit some important aspects (to be GDPR-complient etc.). When you send the email (ie. newsletter issue / campaign) you get detailed analytics that gives you a good overview how your newsletter is doing which helps a lot. The app also helps you keep your mailing list healthy (removing duplicates, inactive users, managing unsubscriptions) which really simplifies the process. Another thing that I really like is the interface with a lot of funny messages from the chimp (hence the mailchimp name) that puts some fun into the process.

Cons

We've had some issues with the email landing into the spam folder of the recepients, but it turned out that it had more to do with the domains of the organization and less with the app itself.

### "Newsletters for Building Your Business' Future"

December 26, 2019

5.0

Overall, Mailchimp has been a great additional to our nonprofit marketing arsenal. We frequently acquire new subscribers and feel that it is something that will help strengthen our appeal to new generations of donors.

Pros

The best thing about Mailchimp? It works. It helps that, once you become familiar with the mail management options, things are pretty polished and easier to leverage for quick messages. Templates are your friend. In the case of our company, we use Mailchimp to send out occasional newsletters which are basically an electronic version of a print version that we pay premium dollars to send out. We love that Mailchimp allows us to appeal to an existing or potential donor base that is younger and more technologically fluent. We also love how easy it is for people to subscribe or unsubscribe and appreciate receiving regular reports on that sort of activity. This is the way of the future.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve to set up the first mail message - especially if you don't want it to appear as if you threw it together in minutes. Additionally, the mail management tools are either slightly unintuitive or just above the heads of those who are mildly technology challenged. To be fair, there are available FAQ's and other learning tools but these sometimes fall into the same category as the issues they attempt to resolve. But, bottom line, it should be as simple as uploading an Excel spreadsheet of contacts to establish your mailing list. It wasn't but it also wasn't a deal-breaker.

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

We were able to review the product by viewing sample e-newsletters generated by Mailchimp. Also, we had assistance from our outsourced marketing firm who had experience working with Mailchimp.

### "I See No Reason To Change"

May 15, 2020

5.0

I use Mailchimp in my personal blog and it is a very small blog. It was very easy to set up and I was collecting emails within 45 minutes and I do not consider myself remarkably savvy with software. I have had to call customer service a few times and the information that I have received recently is conflicting with different reps telling me different things. Right after I started using Mailchimp I had issues with complaints, I did something wrong and inundated my readers with emails. Mailchimp did not listen to me so I had to spend 2 weeks and hours trying to get back up and running. But other than that I have had not issues. It seamlessly moves from platform to platform and brand to brand with no effort. I see no reason to look for another solution since this works so well.

Pros

Mailchimp is very easy to use. I have used it with a number of programs and it seamlessly integrates into whatever platform I am using. It is quick to set up and very easy to learn. I use Mailchimp on my personal blog and I was collecting emails within 45 minutes of getting it. I appreciate that it has a step ladder of pricing options so even the very small start up can afford it

Cons

They seem to have made a few changes in their pricing structure lately and I feel that you get conflicting information when you try customer service. It is very easy to get taken down when they receive complaints and you have to defend yourself. They do not listen to both side before taking it down.

### "The 500 lb Gorilla (get it?) "

October 5, 2021

Our web team drove the move to Mail Chimp from Constant Contact and Robly because it is easier for them to build campaigns to capture email addresses using Mail Chimp. As a user and administrator, I prefer the other solutions' interfaces.

Pros

Mail Chimp integrates with nearly all common CRM platforms. It (along with Constant Contact) is the standard, and as such, it is the most supported email campaign manager for other systems. I like it most for its ease of integration with other systems.

Cons

What is a bummer is the cost scaling as you add contacts as well as the lack of free unlimited images. Both of which I had with Robly. However, with Robly, it is difficult to integrate...For small businesses, you will have to make a choice: use a well-known system like Mail Chimp or Constant Contact to make it easier to integrate with other solutions and build a campaign. Or use something like Robly which is less expensive, but not as easy to integrate. ALL systems let you port over your current mailing lists.

### "Mailchimp integrates easily with your social media."

September 7, 2023

It's easy to understand, design great looking newsletters, track contacts and judge performance. I really appreciate how each individual contact is rated by their engagement level, so I can see at a glance how certain people are responding.

Pros

It's so quick and simple to design amazing looking newsletters on Mailchimp. The templates are easy to you and the drop and drag features make perfect sense. I appreciate most that I can add a social media post of my newsletter with one simple click. Mailchimp is a fantastic product and well priced.

### "So easy that a chimp could use it..."

May 3, 2019

5.0

It is so easy to use. You just plug in the information and attach images as needed. No special HTML coding like we had to use with our Outlook sometimes. Entering our mailing list was also a breeze since we had it imported. For Outlook, as I recall, I could only send at most to 500 email addresses at a time. Otherwise we would be considered spamming people. To be on the safe side I would send to no more than 450 people at a time. When we had bouncebacks I had to manually remove people's email addresses. This all took up so much of my time and my inbox. Mailchimp streamlines all of this ad simplifies my work life. I don't use this at my current job but would definitely recommend for smaller businesses if they want to save their time.

Pros

Okay, that was a bad attempt at trying to parody the Geico/caveman commercials, and an insult to chimps. But I wanted to highlight how easy it was to use. I used this at an old job of mine (a 3-person office) at a non-profit organization. Because my boss was stuck in her ways for the longest time she didn't want to get with the times. She didn't utilize social media to promote our shows (I worked in theatre), she kept reaching out to the same schools and community organizations year after year. It wasn't until we had a new employee who took over fundraising and marketing that Mailchimp was implemented. Before that we kept using the same template in Outlook to send out newsletters. It was clunky to use and not very appealing to the receiver. Enter Mailchimp. It has such a simple, eye-catching, dashboard, and user interface yet it looked professional. Many theatre organizations I am on the mailing list of use Mailchimp as a standard. It's so standard we see the template all the time.

Cons

For the free version you are not able to send to more than 2000 email addresses, which worked for us because we didn't have that many (which is unfortunate for us, but that's besides the point). And as mentioned under the 'Pros' section, it's so standard that you see the same template all the time so it gets a little old and if you are trying to be unique while using the free version, then you won't get far.

### "A User-Friendly, Cost-Effective Choice"

September 1, 2020

5.0

I'm extremely satisfied with MailChimp and I know our company has benefited from it. We're saving money every year while also exceeding the quality we were previously accustomed to.

Pros

When I started at my company, they were using a different email management platform. At the expiration of our contract, I shopped other options and was familiar with MailChimp from use at a previous company. It was, without a doubt, the standout choice. The price, user-friendly interface, and no contract made it leaps and bounds above other options.

Cons

With other email platforms, it usually involved signing a contract or creating some kind of time obligation. As such, I was accustomed to being assigned a day-to-day contact or point person for any of my concerns, questions, etc. With MailChimp, actually speaking to someone without already having an account seemed next to impossible. I think having someone to speak to when setting up a new account would have been nice to make sure we were covering all the bases and starting off on the right foot. That said, they do have support forums that have tons of information, if you're up to reading for an extended period of time.

### "Mailchimp is the go to email marketing tool for everyone starting out"

March 31, 2023

The process of creating a campaign on Mailchimp is straightforward, and the platform offers a wide range of templates to choose from. You can easily customize campaigns by using the drag-and-drop editor to add text, images, and other design elements , however I did find this part difficult. Mailchimp also offers a variety of automation features, such as welcome emails, abandoned cart reminders, and follow-up emails, which can help save time and increase engagement. I have not used the analytics to track campaign performance and improve future campaigns. Overall, Mailchimp is a reliable and efficient email marketing tool that helps me connect with my users

Pros

I used the custom fields and segmentations for both guest posts and newsletters for my new website. It made it easy to do merge of data for emails going to guests and clients

Cons

The interface is a little old and tired. It is not always intuitive to know where certain navigation items are. The newsletter builder is challenging

### "Easy to use and friendly for every type of user"

December 29, 2023

4.0

Without Mailchimp we would not be able to reach as many people with our e-mail marketing.

Pros

You can create a campaign that looks professional with the drag and drop function. Your contacts are in one place and you can track who opened it.

Cons

We don't have any cons, it's been developed really well, you can even implement HTML.

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

### "Newsletters Made Easy"

February 17, 2021

5.0

Despite some of the challenges it has been the best program that I have been able to find to easily create newsletters for our organization. Once you become used to how the platform operates it becomes easier to create and design good looking "campaigns" newsletters.

Pros

I love this software because of the ease of use and the way it implements structure for designing newsletters. I had previously utilized Microsoft Office to build, design, and create newsletters; however, found that you could only attach it to emails rather than having a fully fleshed out designer email sent. Mailchimp also allows the administration to show how many indviduals clicked on various links and opened the email newsletter to read it. This allows for better engagement to see weather the information being portrayed is useful or not.

Cons

While it allows for ease of use with design and implementations it lacks on available templates and themes. We've attempted to search for themes online; however, have not had much luck utilizing third party themes that say they are built for Mailchimp. Also, while you can design newsletters these are actually listed as campaigns as the number one goal for Mailchimp is to produce campaign and marketing strategies. This can sometimes lead to confusion while navigating the platform.

Better looking templates and the way the platform is implemented into the email system as opposed to having to add it as an attachment to the email itself.

### "How else are you going to gather all of those emails for your e-business?"

July 24, 2018

Outreach. Automated email collection, retention, and outreach.

Pros

It makes a very difficult facet of growing a business fairly simple. Collecting emails. The hardest thing to do in today's society is get somebody to hand over their email. And while MailChimp doesn't automatically convince people to do so, it gives you great tools to sway their confidence. You get free landing pages that you can use with directing traffic to your site to add incentive to their email. "10% off if you join our mailing list!" You can also schedule automatic emails to follow up a purchase to request a review or offer a repeat buyers promo. They give you templates to help build these outreach options with expediency and efficiency. It's really hard to not find reason after reason to use MailChimp of you have your own business, especially an internet based business. You're not nearly as effective without it.

Cons

Very little. You have to subscribe, and the levels are tiered for number of emails so you pay more as you grow but that's also beneficial to the initial user with a small customer base. Only pay for what you need. There are myriad options to use as well, so the average user may need to really learn the system to get the most from it. Take advantage of it though and it's worth your time and money.

### "Mailchimp is a winner"

June 5, 2021

5.0

Pros

Email marketing with Mailchimp is not like other software, everything can be setup so breezily and the result of the email marketing is really satisfying and reach our ROI. The email template really has helping us building a very stunning email marketing that looks fun and captivate our audience attention.

Cons

Mailchimp is really good with the template design, but trying to building the email design from the sketch using the html or code is quite a nightmare. The design will not snap to the position and will looks messy especially when it were viewed on mobile layout. After all, other feature that they has provide really helpful for our marketing campaign.

### "Easy and practical"

February 13, 2019

5.0

It is a great software for marketing agencies or individuals because it is free up to 2000 subscribers and very easy to learn how to use with all the help articles and tutorial videos.

Pros

MailChimp is very easy to use! I have been using it for over 3 years and I am very satisifed with the software, they are constantly improving the site, it became very easy to navigate. The support system is great, there are tutorials and help articles that explain step by step how to create lists etc. They have two factor authentication that keeps the account safe. It has a free, basic plan, after you exceed 2000 subscribers, you always know how much you need to pay and it sends you a notification when you are adding new subscribers and about to exceed your monthly plan. You can schedule newsletters based on the time zone, which is extremly useful in the US. But MailChimp can analyze your subscribers and suggest the optimal sending time if you prefer to choose that. It sends me emails every day about the campaign activities, unsubscribers that helps me keep the list up to date. The analytic tools are great, you can see how many people opened the email, how many times they clicked on certain links, If you are curious about a subscriber all their activity is available on their profile. The most useful feature, in my opinion, is that you can send automatic follow up emails to those who have not opened the first email, or have not clicked on it.

Cons

Certain features (such as sending campaigns with time wrap) only available on the paid plan, which is a little pricy. The different list management tools like tags, groups and segments are confusing at first.
