Pros I really liked the automation of sending out newsletters with Mailchimp, it didnt get hung up in DNS like a regular email blast would. If not for decisions being made by those above me, i would have continued using the software and suggest it to many others when I get a chance. Pros I found mailchimp to be great value for money and quite easy to use. The landing page is always perfect for any project I've used it for and it has made data management a snap after collecting everything on the system. Cons I haven't found any cons that I'd mention, though admittedly I've only used Mailchimp for a few months before my company changed their minds about using the software. July 8, 2025 5.0 In general, I really do like the platform. I find it pretty to use and am able to design items where I can reach my clients and receive statistics as to how many people I am reaching and whether or not they are engaging. My rate of disconnects is pretty low, but honestly, I don't understand how I could do better using the platform. I have recently engaged a marketing consultant and am hopeful that she can help me utilize the platform more efficiently. Pros I love that I can have my clients, potential clients and subscribers in one place. I feel that the Mailchimp interface has gotten much more user friendly over the years. I do appreciate that. Cons When I was a subscriber to Mailchimp, I found the payment vs benefits to be somewhat unequal. I do not send emails to my people every month and don't really like to pay for a service that I don't consistently use. Mailchimp also has the capability to set up an automated series of emails (drip campaign/journey) for email users to receive at specific intervals to learn more about the organization or take advantage of free/promotional offers. Cons The cost of Mailchimp varies based on the select number of contacts in the email system. The tiers available do not always benefit medium-sized businesses or companies and are not always cost-effective. Mailchimp also used to have a reporting feature that shows you how many people went through your journey/drip campaign automated series for a given or reported month, but now it only shows you the cumulative/lifetime user completion or progress through the series. However I believe their pricing structure along with potential limitations should be carefully considered before committing. Pros It has an intuitive nature making it pretty easy to navigate especially for the non-technical user that has limited for no expertise. The basic features are user friendly and helps you to get used to the platform. Cons For businesses with larger audiences it can get quite expensive due to the way mailchimp counts contacts. Customer service is pretty poor for those on the lower tier which I don't agree with. If using the platform you're a customer and should get the same level of service. I liked that you could group together content blocks, but not much else about the builder. Pros Loads of integrations with other software I used, which was very helpful (I now have to rely on Zapier to achieve similar results). Also, great that you could tag audience members, and also arrange them into segments - this double system gave good flexibility for recording data. Cons Pricing feels incredibly punitive, especially if you don't need loads of the niche functions. I ended up needing to regularly archive contacts to not exceed 10k active subscribers, otherwise the cost would have escalated to a point that just made no sense. I also found it a little opaque - sometimes I would import new subscribers, having archived enough to be under the 10k threshold, but then face top up charges for reasons I never fully understood (it seemed like certain contacts would take longer to archive in the backend, meaning for a very short period of time I exceeded the 10k limit, but this would be enough to trigger the charges). I ultimately felt it became a rip-off and disincentivised growth, so migrated to a platform (Flodesk) which didn't charge based on the number of subscribers. Review Source Claire B. I always appreciated the helpfulness of the website as they were always assisting with tips, suggestions, and had an entire library of useful courses to further expand my knowledge of email marketing and their specific platform. Without their guidance when I first began my Email Marketing journey I would have likely become discouraged and not continued doing Emails. Cons One of the things that I disliked about mailchimp is that in order to receive customer service by an actual person you had to be on one of their payment plans. This was even true for text help. We found it easy to start day-one with customer marketing and interaction. Pros It was a good value for the money and subscription, even for add-on services. We found it simple to use for managing customer support and marketing and sales. Cons The biggest con for us with Mailchimp was how we could not find a way to align it with our EHR program. I like the data it gives who opened the email what links they clicked on if people unsubscribed so you can keep your list updated. Cons The free version limites how many reciepents you can have to 1200 It's challenging as a small org to be able to afford the paid subscription when and can't send newsletters to everyone that gives you their email. It was free and had a lot of options, campaigns had a lot of design options and flexibility. Pros The process of sending campaigns was very intuitive, and the steps were easy to follow with a little humour here and there. It used to have great templates. Cons It became way too complicated and very non-intuitive. Free option is very limited, almost useless.
