December 5, 2019 5.0 We use Mailchimp to send frequent updates to our customer base about software updates and new feature releases, as well as automated on-boarding campaigns for our new users. Pros Mailchimp makes it incredibly easy to design and send professional email marketing communications. The drag and drop editor couldn't be easier, and you can set up automatic "drip" campaigns in addition to normal email campaigns or even social media ads. Mailchimp's APIs allow you to place signup forms on your website, or even sign people up via SMS. Superb platform. Cons I honestly don't have any complaints about Mailchimp. I've been using it for nearly 10 years and in my opinion it's by far the best email marketing option on the market. Mailchimp has played a major role so far such that i dont need a personal assistant. Pros It is a software with a school within its circumference, a user friendly software. Its so amazing to see how it is able to send same message to thousands of people but addresses them individually. Cons If this software had the least likes about it, believe you me i wouldn't recommend it to someone else and give it a five star all around. I use the free option and so far, so good. When I get to more than 2000 subscribers, I will definitely upgrade to the premium option for more functionality. Pros The most awesome thing about Mailchimp according to me is the fact that they allow you to use the application for free for upto 2000 subscribers! How awesome is that. Another good thing about Mailchimp is that there is enough documentation online on how to use. You can easily get a youtube video and or an article showing you how to use the application. Mailchimp also provides a number of predesignated templates you can use for your emails. If you have some design skills, you can change up things a little bit to suit your business. Most other email marketing platforms don't provide templates as nice as Mailchimp's. Cons A disadvantage I face when using Mailchimp to send emails is that sometimes the emails I send to my subscribers land on their spam folder. Most of the time my email subscribers don't see the emails that land on the spam box. Another disadvantage of Mailchimp is that it can be a bit challenging to use. Being able to get a hold of all my contacts with 1 email campaign is crucial to my business. Also being able to track open rate and clicks is very helpful. Pros Mailchimp simply works. I used it as a start up company to build a client platform and grow my network. Being able to track emails is very beneficial. Cons My emails often end up in promotions or spams when I send out emails to investors. If I could control where my emails landed more accurately that would be better. Or if you're ready to pay a certain price for better functionalities (multiple lists, better templates, more contacts...). Pros I like the design and humor touches, like when the monkey gives you a high-five when you send an e-mail. The documentation is good too, but it's sometimes hard to find exactly what you need. Also it's not always the latest version. Cons The things I like least are related to the free plan, so I can't really complain. But they changed this plan a few months ago so I had to change my habits to less, which was (still is) painful, and disappointed me. Moreover, and this have nothing to do with the free plan, there are a few bugs when editing your emails, like typography or layout bugs. It is a very convenient, perfect email marketing tool. Pros Mailchimp is very easy to use. The user interface is intuitive. Functionalities are also complete for my needs. It integrates with my WordPress site very well. I have a digital downloads website. I used the Easy Digital Downloads Mailchimp plugin to automatically send customer emails to Mailchimp as they make a purchase on my site. Mailchimp also offers a free plan which allows you to keep 2,000 contacts. Cons None. I can't think of any weak points. There was only one incident. It asked me to purchase a free plan for $0 but I could not proceed as there was a system error. When I went back after several days, it worked fine. Review Source DW Deanna W. I see far more pro's with this software than con's. The ability to upload photos and resize, filter and add icons is a major plus. It is like having a basic photoshop without the skin retouching. The marketing tracking really helps us improve our messages and how we tailor them to our clientele. It helps to see what works and what doesn't so we can maximize our newsletters and our mailing list. Pros I like that we can upload our own photos and edit them inside of the program fairly easily. I really enjoy the way it is easy to track the important information, such as, who is opening our newsletters, who is actively engaging in the embedded links and who is unsubscribing. Mailchimp does a great job with the statistics, which in turn helps us create more engaging content and allows us insight on which customers need a more 1 on 1 experience due to their lack on engagement. Cons I find it very difficult to add videos into our newsletters. When we tried to add our Facebook into the system, the permissions that you needed to allow Mailchimp to access your information was a bit excessive. I feel that with more people being concerned with their privacy, there should be an easier and less invasive way for Mailchimp to still access a post but not access my whole contact list, manage our customer experience and have continued insight into our business when not linked. MailChimp allows us to do both. The ability to label and tag new subscribers so that they can be marketed to appropriately is key for success. Pros I would say the segmentation and tagging of our list based on previous campaigns helps us to continually optimize future campaigns. In the past year because of this ability, we have been able to increase our open rate from 7% to around 14% consistently. Cons An addition of increased segmentation - example (those that have opened within the past year) and are from a certain state is difficult with the "any" and "all" rule. Being able to group "all" for one and then another "all" ... and being able to send it to both in campaign would be beneficial. Currently they are sent out as 2 separate campaigns. The GUI is intuitive and you can immediately get useful feedback about your campaigns (e.g. which/how many users opened/clicked/viewed your emails). Pros Mailchimp is very simple to set up, you can instantly import your contacts from different sources and create emails using templates and schedule your email campaigns. Cons If you are on the free basic plan, you have strict limitations (e.g. in the number of email s you can send per month). Costs can rapidly grow and you must be prepared for that. It is an incredibly simple way to send newsletters as well. When I need a software like this again, MailChimp will always be my go-to. Pros I loved the ease of this software. We could embed it easily into our social media campaigns and could track interactions and generate leads without having to beg. Cons I don't have any dislikes about MailChimp. The process is very simplified so you can choose from different layouts based on what information you're trying to share. Some of the options include sales, updates, contests, or events. I also appreciate that when you go to email out your project, the whole process is very quick and easy. You basically just run down a list of tasks: who the email is being sent to, what email address the project is coming from, and a subject line. Cons Building the lists for people you will email takes forever and can become very frustrating. I do not appreciate having to add contacts one person at a time, especially when I am only adding email addresses and not the other information. If you are adding lots of details, then be prepared for it to take a couple hours. MailChimp offers a solution in importing a list of contacts but that would mean that I would have to build a list outside of the service which would take just as much time. Also, there is no easy way to pull the contacts out of one list and put them in another. You have to manually remove the contacts from one list and then add them again into the second list. Pros Mailchimp is the OG email marketing tool on the market. It's a decent tool for capturing leads and email marketing automation. If you're getting started, Mailchimp has a free plan with 500 contacts and 1000 emails per month, which is a good option for beginners. You can try it out before you go for their paid plans, and I highly recommend this tool. Cons I have no problem using this tool and have nothing to complain about. Overall, it's a great tool. This helps us determine if we need to alternative methods of communication. Pros Love that we are able to merge a contact list to MailChimp and can then customize the email contents. Allowed us to send emails to our students and to do a quality check of the of recipients. We are able to manage the content and include links. This also produces reports of when emails are opened, if the links are clicked and if their contents are utilized. Cons There needs to be an option to edit the group's members. This would allow us to streamline the process of updating contact list. Because this is not an option, the excel document needs to be updated and then reloaded into MailChimp. This does take additional time and also leaves room for error. Being able to manually adjust the list or create new groups from the list, would make this more user friendly. We've since launched a successful online business, and our mailing list has gone from zero when we started with mailchimp, to in the tens of thousands. The email design process has always been easy, though they keep improving it every year, giving me more time to run by business and focus on operations, while maintaining a high level of quality in our newsletters. Pros The generous free trial offer was what go us in the door, and the incredible ease of use, powerful features, and measureable results we've gotten from our use of mailchimp are the reason we've stayed for so long. Cons As an eCommerce user, I really think some of their integration to our online catalog could be improved. The BigCommerce integration isn't terrible, but customers do get ads for fabrics that are out of stock regularly, and there is no way to easily highlight new fabrics. I consider this a minor issue, which can be worked around, but it could certainly be improved. Mailchimp has many useful tools that our business found incredibly useful. Pros Mailchimp is a clean and easy-to-use app for creating a mailing list for your business. It has a free tier, which honestly includes all the features you will need for a small to medium business. Its email builder helps you build beautiful marketing emails and its tools help you automate and send them out. It has excellent website integration tools as well (including Wordpress integration). With site/store integration, Mailchimp can send out emails when a user has added items to a cart, after a user has purchased something, or after many other events. Cons Many advanced features are locked behind Mailchimp's premium plan. I personally feel that the free features are more than enough to manage a standard mailing list. Pros It seems to have all the essential features. It was good that I could integrate Google Analytics into the reports and I liked the way I could drag and drop blocks into templates when using the powerful template editor. Most of all, it was great that I could start off using Mailchimp for free, and then when I had started earning a bit of money through my campaigns, I felt I could afford to upgrade. Cons Some of the marketing I do is affiliate marketing, and that is not supported as it is against Mailchimp's policy. Reason for choosing Mailchimp Being able to use the platform for free until my campaigns grew and the upgrades become affordable was what won me over compared to the alternatives. July 12, 2018 5.0 Much easier to stay in touch with leads and customers, which brings business back to you.. IF you don't overdo it and spam people to death with emails and 'newsletters'! Pros It is pretty much THE industry standard, so it has integrations with.. EVERYTHING. I like how I can manually do email campaigns.. but it is also tied in to my CRM, email system, accounting.. you name it. Everything just works with MailChimp. Cons Like most people, I have been hesitant to buy in to subscription-based software over the years. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer the days when I could BUY a CD and OWN the software... forever. That being said, I understand that things like MailChimp are not one size fits all, so if you're sending a million emails a week, you should be charged more than if you're sending 100 emails. And that is the big issue I have: For small and medium businesses, I think it's a bit too expensive. I don't need to send thousands of emails. For niche industries, it is a bit of overkill; I wish they had a truly 'lite' version/subscription.
