We´re still too busy, but at least with Mailchimp we can send a few more, and they look a heck of a lot more professional than the homemade ones I used to design. Also, I got our domain blacklisted by sending out too many via the free forum software that our website used to be based on, which wasn´t very clever of me. I should have used Mailchimp a lot sooner, because you have zero risk of that problem. Pros The fact that it is free at our level of usage and customization is obviously a bonus, but if we were a larger organization I would probably be happy to continue to use Mailchimp on a paid basis, and currently I can´t see any reason to look elsewhere. It is easy to use, creates professional mailers, tracks them well. I like how easy it is to review your previous mailers sent, on a page which you can share with prospective partners to show them your previous marketing campaigns. Cons I wish they would keep me informed more frequently via mailing campaigns. That´s a joke. A very unfunny one. Sorry. I´m sure there´s things that can be improved but I can´t be bothered to think about that right now. If there was anything major that was wrong I´m sure I would be writing about it right now. September 14, 2018 4.0 I use Mailchimp for several clients who send out mass emails or monthly newsletters. It is easy to craft an email, to upload images, and then to add the contacts to the email. The metrics are amazing - to know the open rate, the bounce rate, the unsubscribe numbers and more is very helpful to creating followup emails and evaluating how well the email "worked". In addition, the verifications and legal ease with unsubscribe options through Mailchimp helped to ensure you are following the letter of the law when it comes to mass emails. It's a great programs to keep all your contacts in one place, and create good looking, impactful marketing emails. Pros Mailchimp does a great job of maintaining our mailing lists, and with providing the metrics related to mailings. When you send an email, you can watch the metrics change. You can see who has read it, who unsubscribed, and much much more. It even makes you verify that contacts have elected to be contacted, that way you can commit to not spamming people. It also recognizes and updates a contact if it is already in your list. Cons I think for a first time user, creating a campaign can be confusing. I don't know that non-marketing people know that "Create a Campaign" means, "craft a marketing email". I think the terminology could be easier for non marketing professionals. I didn't exactly know how to engage with my viewers, but MailChimp gave me a platform to do so. I now supplemented my website with a newsletter, sending out weekly highlights to my users. I can track data through MailChimp, figuring out who is engaging with my content, and in turn tweak my newsletter to create more engagement. Very happy overall with MailChimp. Pros Very good pricing model--you don't have to pay if you have less than 2000 subscribers. This is very convenient when you are starting out your newsletter, as you may not necessarily have the funds to support your newsletter. My favorite aspect of MailChimp, however, is the user data that it provides. This allows me to create more targeted newsletters, and funnel customers into groups based on their engagement. Cons I don't like how MailChimp's emails are not sent into the 'Inbox' tab in Gmail. Instead, they are sent into the 'Promotions' tab. This is somewhat inconvenient for me, as I do not get as great of a response rate from my subscribers. Another thing I dislike about MailChimp is that it's not fully automated. I wish it had more of a 'set it and forget it' feature, which would be more efficient for me. Pros Mailchimp is a very easy method to send newsletters to your customers. You can create segments, view how and when customers opened it, and manage unsubscriptions and bounces. I like the way you can create templates, which you can then reuse later. The newsletters are optimized for viewing on every device, be it a desktop, browser or mobile interface. This saves a lot of work when creating the newsletter template. When you are ready to send, you can view how it looks on those devices, check if all links are working as expected and schedule the e-mail on the optimal time. When securing your account with a 2nd factor, you get a reduced subscription fee; a nice bonus! Cons You need some time to get used to how the system works. When working with custom tags in your address list, there is an additional manual step when sending the newsletter. If the address list is mostly formatted as default, this is not necessary. Cons Constant contact has a little better email customization and a little easier, but at a higher price. After the 2000 subscribers it can start to get higher priced, it's kind of their hook. Cons My only complaint is I have had mixed results when trying to compose emails on mobile devices. Pros Very effective for a very reasonable cost. Easy to duplicate campaigns to quickly edit and send the next email. The automated email functions are great to send more robust campaigns. Cons List management could get overwhelming of you do not think through and manage your lists well. We accidentally deleted a list of contacts as we were trying to clean up having too many smaller lists (we have folks opt in at trade shows) and once you delete a list you cannot add the contact back without a double opt in. Luckily for us we had only deleted one small list so we just lost that one. It would have been awful if we had deleted all the lists thinking we could consolidate and reupload. While we appreciate the double opt in we think we would loose too many contacts that way. We have clients that use Constant Contact so we work with that platform as well and they seem very similar.
