I have also used it to provide updates to a certain list of people - employees of the state agency my company partners with. It is nice to have separate mailing lists for this. Pros I like the features of Mailchimp. There is a lot of different things you can do with it to make your newsletter interesting. Cons It is definitely one of the more difficult software programs that I regularly use. It makes sense because there is a lot of different things that you CAN do but it takes at least a moderate understanding of how to navigate this type of system. I have often wanted to hand off the task of creating a monthly newsletter to someone else in the office but have found that the time needed to explain it would be more trouble than it is worth. It also can be a pain to remove the branding and customize some templates to your liking if you're not looking for something past the basic stuff. October 23, 2018 5.0 Very positive experience with MailChimp overall. We've even coined the verb 'mailchimpin' to describe our email marketing efforts on team calls. Pros I love how intuitive MailChimp is for anyone to create an email marketing blast. On a small team we often end up sharing jobs. MailChimp is one of the easiest things to pass off between ourselves. Templates are easy to create and modify. Sharing data is also easy for everyone to see that has a login. Seeing the open/click data mailchimp provides enables inside sales to do a more pointed follow up call without even needing to reference marketing efforts. Cons There is a bit of an internal limitation to mailchimp in creating marketing emails. They have precreated basic layouts for messaging. This may mean you will need to create your graphics, export as a photo file, then place it in mailchimp the image quality isn't sacrificed. Simple layouts are not entirely a bad thing. Its kind of a self limitation to ensure you don't give your audience graphic overkill. Pros I'm not the most tech savvy user so the learning curve for anything outside of the standard web app suite is a bit of a learning curve for me but not only was the process easy to understand, it was quite enjoyable customizing my company newsletters and e-blasts! Not to mention seeing the results in real time. Loved the very detailed breakdown as well as the helpful tips for tailoring my targeted audience. Great app for folks looking to reach their customers in an efficient and creative way. Cons There was honestly very little to dislike aside from the limited options of fonts and design styles but there's a definite workaround for it. The templates are great, because once you find a format that really works, you can save it in a template and then just change up the copy per campaign which is a time saver. The analytics you get from Mailchimp are really helpful as well because it makes it easy to share and explain results to clients. I have used several other email marketing platforms and Mailchimp is by far the most intuitive. Pros Mailchimp offers just about everything you need for an advanced email marketing campaign. I think my favorite feature is the scheduler - Mailchimp will actually schedule your email out based on what times have performed best in the past and it saves the user a lot of research time! Cons Sometimes formatting can be tricky in Mailchimp. I've found that things will format in the content box but not reflect in the preview. It eventually resolves itself, though. I've been a long-time user and see no reason to switch any time soon. Pros A company I worked for in college was an early Mailchimp adopter, so I've been fortunate enough to work with this system and watch it grow over the last 8 years. I've tried other newsletter tools since learning about Mailchimp, but it's still my favorite to use and recommend. Cons Managing contacts, and removing some (cleaning up DB) is so painful - why can't it be so much simpler to select/filter some people and remove them...!!! There are things that I wish we could change, and you're always going to be limited by an ESP like Mailchimp, but unless you're going to go full custom and use a proprietary platform, this is a solid option. Pros Mailchimp sends emails very well. To be honest, Mailchimp is on par with all many other ESPs (Benchmark, Constant Contact, etc.). Mailchimp allows even the most novice email marketers to create visually appealing emails, send to customized mail lists, and look at basic metrics. It's a solid choice. Cons My least favorite part of Mailchimp is the search function. If you don't have the correct audience selected and virtually the exact name of the email that you're looking for, nothing will show up in the search results. Also, Mailchimp likes to change their UI on their site and not alert their customer base. I definitely do NOT like that. Review Source LL Larry L. Frees me up from having to deal with subs and unsubs as well as bounces. Not to mention people who insist I'm spamming them though I can show them plainly where they signed up. Automatically updates copyright notices for USA and International. There are a lot of features that I don't use but it's very well structured to operate at all levels. I can add features when I am ready and it runs just fine if I don't. Pros MailChimp was easy to set up and easily imported my existing mail list. What I like most is they automatically deal with CANSPAM requirements and I don't have AOL sending threats and blocking all my outgoing mail to AOL users. I'm still using the free version until my mail list gets over 2000...it's a very generous trial offer that I've used for over 6 years now. Cons Seems like MailChimp, like many other companies, feels compelled to update things, rearrange the sign in and setup screens, fiddle with this and that. I suspect they are trying to make the product look fresh and shiny, up-to-date and all that, or justify their salaries. So once every few months my assistant and I have to go through another learning curve to find where the missing buttons are hidden now. My advice: Quit messing with stuff that works just fine as it is. Those of us non-technogeeks running businesses don't need the additional work just to get the same result we had the week before. MailChimp makes it easy to tailor an email that looks good on all devices and screens for each of my readers. I'm easily able to track conversions from sales too! Definitely pays for itself with just a few emails. Cons It does take a bit of time to get fully setup on their platform and ensuring you are able to send emails without it going to SPAM. We had an issue where volunteers were sending things out with old lists and getting complaints from former volunteers to get them off of these reply all emails. I require the information to come to me- and I send it out to the group. If anyone wants to be removed it is easy to do and no more complaints. Also, all of the data is in one place if someone wants to see an older report. It has been an incredible time saver and tool for us. Pros This software is so much easier to use than other similar services. We were using vertical response, and I do prefer this. I like how I can attach a file link. I have the freedom to design the emails as I want, and it is easy to make templates. I can produce engaging, colorful emails and place the images where I want. Cons I like everything about Mailchimp- I have no complaints at all. Whether we're sending drip campaign emails, payment reminders, mass email marketing, or simple survey emails, this is our tool of choice, bar none. I can't recommend MailChimp's suite of tools enough. Pros MailChimp has literally become our hub for ABM. It's extremely intuitive, and the integrations suite is so deep, that it has both the company I work for and my personal business covered. Their templates make it easy to get started if you don't have a plan already. Their segmentation tools are truly next level, and the reporting is the best at this price point (at least compared to Marketo and Hubspot). Cons They are very picky about leads that you use through their software, so make sure that you have done email validation on your data set before you run it through their platform, or they will ding you for it.
