### "Mailchimp is evolving, should you evolve with it too?"

December 4, 2019

5.0

I have tried many ESPs & marketing automation platforms over the years and few compare in ease of use, features and price point to Mailchimp. But they're changing. At first the re-positioned to target eCommerce and now are trying to become a marketing automation platform - if you want to pay for it. The experience is still good, the featureset is growing (arguably in the right direction) but the price is increasing as well.

Pros

I have been recommending Mailchimp's free tier for years. It was the easiest solution with the most generous free tier. I have also used it with SMBs that are fine paying for the service. Hands down, ease of use is what keeps me recommending MailChimp. Not too many competitors have mastered this as masterfully as Mailchimp. I'm happy to see them move away from strictly list-based management too.

Cons

The paid plans have no doubt been seeing more and more features, but they haven't come without price increases either. The base price now for Mailchimp for small lists is becoming a pain point for my clients who are having a harder time justifying the cost (especially when they started out with the free plan). It doesn't help when the Canadian exchange slaps another 35% on top.

### "A very user-friendly way to create tailored email campaigns"

June 7, 2018

5.0

Pros

I particularly appreciate the templates offered by MailChimp to create very quickly email campaigns. You can customize almost everything, you can include very dynamic contents (Gif, videos), you can create many subscription lists, check the metrics (opening rate, click rates), which are wonderful features.

Cons

When you create landing pages, these pages can be hosted only by mailchimp, not by your own website, which is not great. Also, the integration with your digital store (with Big Commerce or Shopify for example) is not perfect at all: some products do not show up.

### "MailChimp!"

May 28, 2018

5.0

MailChimp is a WONDERFUL feature

Pros

I love MailChimp. I can get a detailed report of my mailing list and emails. So easy to use and clean crisp look. I can edit MailChimp to fit my needs. For as many mailers I send out it is free for me to use.

Cons

It can get costly the more you send out and use the program. Email automation features lacks. There are too many rules when it comes to automation and it is too complicated to use.

### "A powerful tool for email marketing!"

February 14, 2020

5.0

When I started working with social media and digital marketing, I realized that I would need to adopt an email marketing strategy. I researched some tools I came across with Mail Chimp. For me the tool was very useful in solving my problem in an amazing way. I still use it today and I am very satisfied!

Pros

I loved it because it is very simple to use for beginners, in addition to having a free plan that works very well for those who are starting their journey in e-mail making. Use until today, because it presents a great cost benefit. In addition you can do: - Segmentation of contact lists; - Creation of lists of similar audiences (lookalike); - Email personalization; - Creation of landing pages(is very easy to use); - And much more... All of these tools are very useful to me.

Cons

Not all tools are available in the free plan.

### "Analytical features and marketing automation tools"

April 17, 2021

Managing and communicating with our subscribers from ome platform. Sending out newsletters and customizing signup forms that we integrate with social media platforms and our website.

Pros

Marketing automation eliminates manual work and simplifies all marketing processes allowing the marketing team more time to focus what most important.

Cons

The list segmentation can be made a bit complex because I find it to be very basic.

Alternatives considered

### "MailChimp is a great mailing list manager"

March 14, 2019

5.0

Overall, we've been very satisfied with the service. We're using it for both forks of the business - retail and wholesale - and it's been super helpful in sending out these contact campaigns - be it a flash sale (warehouse) or monthly newsletter (retail). Our customers love the formatting and our internal teams love the data - who clicked what and when - which messages bounced - automatic opt outs. Very well formulated system

Pros

Integrates with every platform. API works seamlessly to bring in newsletter customers, form data, etc. into easily manageable email lists. Then - you can created modern email campaigns to run on schedules to keep in touch with these customers - sales, promotions, announcements or just staying in touch over time.

Cons

A bit of a funky price breakdown - not to fond of the # of contacts + # of emails per month packages. Backend is a bit clunky at times - can use an update.

### "Easy to Use"

December 4, 2018

5.0

We used MailChimp for some time before switching to Hubspot. It was a great, affordable solution for sending emails and I know you can integrate multiple software with it. However, we preferred having software that did so seamlessly. MailChimp requires more technical knowledge if you're going to really integrate with your website, CMS, social, etc.

Pros

It has a variety of templates to choose from, and, most importantly, the emails got to the inboxes they were supposed to get to. It handled things like bounces and unsubscribes as well, making it easy to keep our email reputation strong.

Cons

There are a lot of bugs in the editing software, so you need a basic knowledge of html to make your emails look the way you want them to. Cutting and pasting often caused bizarre issues. Also, the ability to manage lists after multiple email sends is fairly complex -- at least ours was. We had a whole system that involved some massive Excel spreadsheets to make sure our master list was always up to date.

### "MailChimp - great for larger businesses and freelance"

November 14, 2022

5.0

Overall, it's my favourite newsletter software and I have recommended it numerous times to managers and to clients.

Pros

It's so intuitive. It's the easiest newsletter software to get a hang of and is so easy to get sign-ups for your email list.

Cons

The only con I've found is the number of people who can have access at a time when I have used MailChimp with larger teams.

### "Gets the word out in an attractive and functional setting."

June 18, 2018

5.0

Instant communication with all our church members.

Pros

I can set up my own heading and footer, and totally control the content. I like being able to choose the right "box" to hold my content throughout the newsletter. There are many different styles from which to choose that helps my newsletter look more professional. I like that people are able to "unsubscribe" if they no longer want to receive email from us, and that they can reply if they have a comment or question. There are many more features that I have never needed to use, too.

Cons

There are certain features that are not intuitive. That is why I gave it less than 5 stars in Ease of Use. It would also be nice to be able to re-size pictures within the newsletter without having to always go back to the media page.

### "Great for nonprofts"

February 14, 2023

Love my experience with transactional email and the automatic replies I can set up.

Pros

I love that Mailchimp is so easy to use. I am a one person team so I need something thats intuitive and easy to use. I can figure this all out on my own with no experience. I love it.

Cons

My only con is that there is not enough pre loaded email templates for me to use. However, I really do not have a lot of complaints about this software.

### "Mailchimp - a good starting solution, but not an enterprise solution"

March 20, 2020

2.0

At first, they did what we needed to do, but they've failed to advance with the marketplace in terms of what other email service providers are bringing to the table. It was often impossible to get a human on the phone to discuss technical support issues.

Pros

The pricing is very affordable compared to other solutions out there. Indeed, I would say that the pricing is in large part why we have stayed with Mail chimp for so long (more than ten years).

Cons

It is impossible to make even small edits to designed emails coming from Dreamweaver in the Mailchimp back-end. You have to make the edits in Dreamweaver, export the email again and then import it back into Mailchimp. The heat maps were broken for months and rather than resolve the technical issue, Mailchimp just gave us a credit. In general, Mailchimp has not kept apace with advances in email technology.

### "Slightly Hipper and More Intuitive than ConstantContact"

December 19, 2018

5.0

It offers me another alternative to use for my clients who want to send out email newsletters.

Pros

Mailchimp came into the market where ConstantContact was the main player in town and provided a streamlined, clean approach to doing eNewsletters and email blasts. In fairness, ConstantContact is also a good program and I think improvements they have made in recent years were perhaps in response to the competition that a company like Mailchimp offered. Overall, I just found the interface easier and more pleasing to work with.

Cons

I can't say there is anything I disliked about this software other than the general things that are headaches with any kind of eNewsletter situation: inlining styles and coding like it's 1999 with tables and stuff. However, this is a statement on the limitations of email clients, not MailChimp.

### "My favorite email software"

November 5, 2018

5.0

Fantastic email software. Super easy to use. Admittedly, I'm not really familiar with some of Mailchimp's direct competitors, but I came into Mailchimp as a newbie and it was really easy to pick up and adapt to.

Pros

It's super easy to use as long as you don't want to do anything too complicated. Helps you keep track of your email lists, save templates, monitor how campaigns are doing, and of course, format beautiful emails. Also, I know this is a silly thing to love, but it's so much fun how cooky the messages to the user are throughout. The cheeky monkey cracks me up, whether it's an error page or a campaign report.

Cons

There's some limitations to the formatting within an email. Often, I ended up doing specific formatting in another program, and then uploading the image ready to go as a header or whatever, and I imagine that that's the case for many people, because Mailchimp is really awkward when it comes down to intricate formatting within the email.

### "Continue of business during corona"

February 4, 2021

5.0

Really allowed us to continue our business dueing the corona lockdown in 2020. We wouldnt have survived without mailchimp

Pros

Mailchimp allowed us to continue our business via email. We hosted our pubquiz online due to the lockdown at the start of 2020. Mailchimp allowed us to reach our customers and get them to sign up to our pubquiz

Cons

We use a seperate system for billing and sending confirmation mails with a unique code. Thats not possible to automate to my knowledge. The problem can be solved with uploading the unique code to mailchimp and then automating the list to send when something new is uploaded.

### "Tried the rest, keep coming back to MailChimp"

June 23, 2018

5.0

Pros

Of all the e-mail newsletter services I've tried, Mailchimp still provides the best-looking templates out of the box. I've never needed to start from scratch or tweak very much. The new templating system is even easier to use. Also, the free tier is plenty for my business. Those who plan on making big money from their e-mail subscriptions will need to pay up, however. I also learn a lot from Mailchimp's invaluable newsletter, specific to e-mail design and marketing. Finally, their branding is cute, and the microcopy often makes me laugh. :-)

Cons

Getting notified of new subscribers requires a paid upgrade. Really? It could be a lot easier to managing lists. Bulk deletion of subscribers that match certain criteria really is kind of painful to accomplish.

### "I oversee sending out a biweekly newsletter and tracking the statistics of it using mailchimp"

June 21, 2018

5.0

Pros

I like the tracking analytics available to you after you have sent out an email. The homepage makes it easy to look at the statistics from the email you have sent out and compare it with past email statistics. How many subscribers you have, how many opens, open rate, how many clicks, click rate, etc. If you are selling a product it can also connect with your store and tell you how many people clicked from your email and made a purchase. (This number doesn't always seem 100% accurate but it certainly gives you a range that is helpful if you are tracking this).

Cons

It is not super easy to use to edit your email. We have multiple people on our team that look over the newsletter before it goes out and it cannot keep up with all of the edits. I often will pull the email back out of mailchimp and paste it into googledocs so everyone can get their final tweaks out there and then I'll paste it back in. When you edit it in mailchimp it doesn't always do what you want it to do. It would also be great if you could export more comprehensive and organized reports.

### "Easy to Use-- But Not a Ton of Automations"

November 8, 2018

5.0

My overall experience with mailchimp was very positive. I think if you're a small to mid-size business just looking to keep in contact with customers mailchimp is the way to go.

Pros

What I like the most about this software is that it is so user friendly. The basicly drag and drop templates make it easy to send a professional looking email.

Cons

We ended up moving to another email platform because we needed more automations. That was the biggest CON for us.

### "MailChimp for business growth"

September 13, 2018

5.0

We use MailChimp as a first step in our lead generation process. We structure an email drift campaign with primary emails, follow ups, where we invite people to talk to us directly. It is super simple to use and it is super simple to create audience segments out of existing lists. Personaly I can not imagine to use any other lead generation tool than MailChimp.

Pros

MailChimp is very simple to use. User interface and user experience are supperb. We tried at least 10 different mail automation apps and we always ended up on MailChimp. It can get a bit pricey, when your list gets big, but it is super simple to use and your email always end up, where you have send them.

Cons

In all the years we are using MailChimp,, there wasn't a moment where I would say, I was disapointed. I wish ot would cost a bit less, when lists get to 40.000+ people.

### "The email marketing service you need - for beginners or advanced users!"

September 7, 2022

5.0

It's been a really good experience for price and capabilities. It's the reason why we haven't switched yet and we still remain to be Mailchimp users.

Pros

The fact that it's so intuitive to use. The UI/UX is clear and clean. It does what you want it to do from a strategy point of view too.

Cons

Sometimes there's technical bugs. Like it won't load the proper "from" email. It's not a case of browsers either because the bug is still there.

Reason for choosing Mailchimp

That it marketed itself as the easiest email marketing service. The branding just shouts simple which is what we need. We don't need complexity and an interface that overwhelms us.

### "A Very Reliable Communications System"

May 11, 2018

5.0

Pros

Many of our Graduate-level colleges use MailChimp very extensively. While I support Undergraduate admissions, I work closely with our Graduate Systems Specialist, so I've gotten to see and hear about MailChimp. From what I've seen and heard, it is a very reliable system that is intuitive and easy to use. In fact, we recently obtained a new CRM tool that has communications and marketing tools built-in, but the Grad colleges continue to prefer MailChimp. That is very reflective of the quality and reliability of MailChimp.

Cons

I can't say I've heard very much negative about MailChimp. If anything, I have heard that our staff would like to have MailChimp integration with different types of software, such as SalesForce. Other than that, it's been pretty smooth sailing from my understanding.

### "Mailchimp is the mail and automation system for SMB"

December 4, 2020

5.0

Great tool for sending newsletters, and interact with the people you want to communicate to. It reports back with ease and you know what to do better next time.

Pros

What I like about this software is that its really easy to use and well designed. It has lots of features and within minutes you can have a newsletter setup with all the tracking and reporting you need. Mailchimp also is on a roll for getting new and powerfull features, but still they are quite easy to implement unlike other Marketing Automation systems where things get complex.

Cons

What I miss in mailchimp is a feature like leadmanagement and tracking. Across domains or platforms to see how people interact with your content and how to get them into a flow that is not only built up by emails.
