### "This has got to be the most difficult, non-functional and frustrating software on the planet."

November 30, 2017

1.0

Pros

When it works its ok to enter time, etc. There really aren't many other pros.

Cons

You have to update every year to get this to work properly and there is absolutely NO customer support . This program is really bad. Do NOT buy it.

### "Remote billing key"

April 27, 2023

5.0

We are satisfied with the product. Customer support is generally good.

Pros

I most like that I can use the easier e-Center whether in the office or out. I can save my favorites and not be bogged down with other attorneys' clients.

Cons

Wish e-Center allowed input of numbers in client and L/A Code sections rather than drop downs. I sometimes select the wrong designation while scrolling and do not catch it until later review. It takes time to figure out corrections.

### "Cathy Ann Helmstadter CPA's & Associates, Inc. Sage Timeslips User Review"

May 12, 2023

3.0

Our company is an accounting firm. We were quite overdue to upgrade to a current version of Sage Timeslips and did so in 2020. We have experienced numerous challenges since the upgrade. \[sensitive content hidden\] and myself as a user, were disappointed with the training that the company paid for with the purchase of our program upgrade. The training was pertinent to billing for a law firm and did not apply to our billing needs. It would be very helpful if a variety of training options were available for different types of industries. We have tried to utilize customer support for various issues and found the "Chat" version of support ineffective in getting a definitive resolve. Also the inability to access or to print a copy of a Chat support session after it is ended.

Pros

The availability to customize a variety of features. In example, reports, timeslip & expense entry viewing, account receivable transactions for viewing, etc.

Cons

The process of preparing the billing of invoices is very time consuming. We have found the customization of invoices to be difficult to format. Templates that we created to optimize a variety of client billing needs, have been inconsistent. Although we have chosen the exact same customized template for several clients, the invoice appearance from client to client is not the same.A suggestion that would help to save time when preparing the invoice billing is, to have the ability to hold or bill multiple time or expense entries all at once. It is quite time consuming that the program requires this process to be done to a single entry at a time.

### "Meets My Needs, But Frequently Wonky"

October 26, 2019

5.0

While certainly not perfect, it remains better than the competition and meets my needs- frustrates me, but I'm still going to be buying the software.

Pros

Easy to use, good layout, and intuitive.

Cons

The program gets wonky pretty often- it doesn't always like anti-virus software, tech support is god-awful, cost keeps going up, and even calling tech support, they haven't been able to eliminate locked screens/info. Also, when you print a History Bill for court to submit to judges, it prints out titled as "Adjustment Note" in large bold lettering, so trying to explain that it is actually a History Bill to a judge unfamiliar with TimeSlips goes nowhere and they are very reluctant to accept it!!!

The TimeSlips wonkiness bothered me so I switched to QuickBooks (which wasn't easy) and only after the switch did I learn that QuickBooks will not add interest every month (it has to be added manually), so I made a quick retreat from QuickBooks back to TimeSlips

### "Time Tracking Software"

March 7, 2018

4.0

Pros

It was nice to have an electronic way to track time and client work. You can set-up multiple users and multiple clients.

Cons

If you have multiple users it can get expensive as each person accessing is required to have an individual license.

### "Antedated and Slow"

May 9, 2023

3.0

Sage TimeSlips is not a product I would recommend to anyone. By not being user-friendly, it's difficult to train yourself and others on. We have had many issues with billing clients and onboarding process despite using the TimeSlips manual and sometimes help representatives. It's also frankly not worth the effort to learn all of the capabilities because it's an arduous and time-wasting process.

Pros

Timeslips is somewhat easy to use if you do not do anything complicated.

Cons

The program is incredibly nuanced and not very user friendly. It's pretty difficult to use and learn. Despite the constant updates it is also pretty antedated and uses too much data to run smoothly and incorporate in day-to-day practice.

Pros

Quite easy to learn for new staff. Also allows real-time information for billing immediately after completing engagement.

Cons

Reporting terminology and report very confusing and not easily translatable to our business needs (accounting)

### "Outdated - Not the best customer service"

November 13, 2018

2.0

Overall, the new firm that I am with does not use this program and I am so happy for that. It CAN and WILL get the job done for you, but there are a ton of other programs out there that can get you more bang for your buck in my opinion.

Pros

Very basic and easy to navigate for the most part. It was easy to teach other employees how to learn the system because it was very cut and dry.

Cons

It is outdated and needs a lot of work. The functions that it has can be updated and improved to make it better. It seemed like certain features you'd have to click 10 steps to get to something that could easily be in a drop-down menu. It just isn't the greatest layout and way to use a program. Also - the customer service is only there for you if you buy a very expensive addition to your software package. So, even if you have a basic question they wont help you, and there are little to no helpful posts online if you try to Google a problem you have because I don't think a ton of people use the program.

Pros

While called the swiss army knife of billing systems, we found Sage Timeslips to be bloated, buggy and confuszing. The best part of the software for our office is that we don't use it anymore1

Cons

### "It's a good product but has too many short comings especially for the cost"

April 27, 2023

5.0

It's a good product, I hope you can tell I am passionate about it. But it is getting passed by every other product it competes with. It was the best. It's not anymore. Sage themselves file this on the website under SMALL BUSINESS...maybe we have just outgrown it? Sage doesn't consider us a Medium Sized business, I guess? Only recently has Sage announced an online product that is designed for business that "aren't complicated". In March. And still won't be available until summer 23. There are so many other products out there, mostly all in the cloud with sleek and easy apps, I cannot recommend Timeslips after being with it for more then a decade. We are leaving...

Pros

It does do the job very well. Billing works great. We have a billing department that are experts with the software so it all works very well. And time entry WHILE IN THE OFFICE is good.

Cons

I would never recommend this product in its current state. Sage implemented Subscription pricing recently while making literally zero changes to the software model And reducing the ways we are able to get support. There's no longer a phone number you can call, oh no. You have to online chat with someone and if you are then deemed worthy, you can get a phone call. The fact the subscription became mandatory while we are still only able to run the software on our internal network is unacceptable. All the competition is running in the cloud...and they have apps to enter your time. Timeslips does not. They have this janky method of going to a webpage and entering into this "Timeslips lite" that is mediocre at best. Not only that but they also charge extra for any extra license...beyond 2. ALL these things were tolerable when we had a perpetual license. We would upgrade every 3 years ro so anyway. But making it a mandatory subscription while adding no cloud or app, and making support harder to get to?

Reason for choosing Sage Timeslips

We ARE LOOKING AT Clio, Time Solv, Paymo, Bill4Time and Zoho is always calling me. Though that's more then we need.

### "Legal Office Timeslips Review"

April 27, 2023

4.0

Lately I have not had problems. The program goes nuts every so often. But we just close and reopen. I liked it better when we did have problems were able to talk to someone right then. Now we have to wait for a call that we do not know when it will occur and ofter it is missed.

Pros

I have used Timeslips since 1992 or 1993. So after 30 years I have it down.

Cons

Timeslips needs to advance into the Cloud. Timeslips is the ONLY thing we have on our server. EVERYTHING else is in the Cloud. You need to devote the time, energy and money to stay cutting edge or you will lose your customores.

Reason for choosing Sage Timeslips

In the early 1990s you had local people that would come to your office and help. We also found it simple to understand and use.

### "Timeslips Review"

May 9, 2023

5.0

Overall, Timeslips is the only program we have used at our law firm but I do wish customer support was better and that it was more user friendly.

Pros

I appreciate that Timeslips has client history and that we can view previous bills with ease and without having to print them out again. I also like that there are numerous reports that can be run but there are so many options that you can get lost in the process. We have also used the abbreviations and have found them to help get more slips entered faster.

Cons

There are a few things that I have been underwhelmed with. For one, depending on version you are limited to customer support options. Knowing that our version only allows for 3 chats under our subscription, I have had to save questions for months to ask when you finally do get someone to respond to you. If you are willing to do a live chat for hours before you can get someone on the phone, then I guess this would work well for you. I will say, once I finally got a representative to remote into our Timeslips, it was Extremely helpful to explain numerous issues with someone seeing your problem on the screen. I was able to get most of the questions I had to reserve answered. Even though I had support on with me they could not understand why Data Verification would not work to resolve client balances, I was told that an upgrade effected that in the program and it hasn't been fixed yet. How will we know when it is fixed? Another thing that absolutely drives me crazy is the NUMEROUS clicks and messages that pop up just to get one invoice printed and sent to LEDES. We are also having issues trying to close client accounts without going back through each and every invoice and AR transaction to find the solution.

### "My Use of Timeslips"

April 27, 2023

5.0

Pros

Timeslips is very user friendly. I have used it for the majority of the 32 years that I have practiced law. It has the time and expense feature to allow tracking oy my time spent on my clients' cases and the expenses that they are required to pay. It has the ability of using different hourly rates for different clients. It also has the capability of drafting different amounts non-refunable retained and the use of Funds to apply refundable portions of retainers differently.

Cons

We have had to update our Timeslips software on occasion and in that process lost some information that we had to recreate; however, it was not information that I didn't have backed up. I cannot suggest any changes for my specific use of Timeslips.

### "Worth Figuring Out How to Use "

May 2, 2023

4.0

Easy to use once you get the hang of how to use

Pros

The best thing about TimeSlips is easy access to payment and time slip histories. Monthly billing statements are easy to print. However, statements do have their cons, which I will address below. I also like being able to customize tasks and assign flat rate time to those tasks, if applicable . So many features as a small, one attorney/one staff office we do not even use. We have had this program over 10 years and it still performs as expected without issues.

Cons

Get connected with gmail for electric billing, not everyone uses outlook. Also, set up a way to not have to print the recap of billing on future bills since it can become a waste of paper and an expense on small offices for paper and ink with clients that have several pages of previous billing pages.

### "Timeslips makes remote billing so easy"

May 2, 2023

5.0

Overall, timeslips has been great for our firm. We have been using it for over 20 years and have no thoughts of changing.

Pros

The timeslips ecenter is a very useful and needed add-on that we continue to appreciate. I have found timeslips to be very user friendly for basic tasks (time tracking, invoicing) and it gives great snapshots of billing history per client.

Cons

I don't find the custom reports to be very user friendly. I have spent a long time trying to get a report on somethings that I think should be a simple and frequently used. I think I would benefit more from a simpler way to generate reports. We had a change in administrators here and have been unable to set up the function to email invoices from the new administrator. Integrating law pay has been difficult as well - I believe they're support to work with each other but I have to manually run both separately.

### "Sage story"

April 27, 2023

3.0

Poor

Pros

It tracks expenses and payments but I cant tell what Ive billed the clients for previously. MY staff did a "work around" by doing everything twice and manually doing hte invoices... I put a stop to this once I found out about it after my office manager retired.

Cons

THe invoices dont show historical bills. Sometimes the "billing history" is empty. But there have been payments made for expenses. Also the quickbooks integration doesnt work and it causes me to go into "task manager" to kill QB whenever I need to use QB since the launch at ZTS opening didn't go off.

### "is it a good program"

April 28, 2023

4.0

Again only program I have used; can't compare; I do wish it was more user friendly.

Pros

Its the only program I have ever used so I don't know.

Cons

Changing the layout of the bill.Being able to delete a client instead of putting into inactive or closedSetting up an account as flat fee it always adds the client's deposit each month. If told during the matter that it is flat fee I have to retype the entire client entries all over and close the first account. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM!

### "Time Slips Needs to be Web Based."

April 27, 2023

4.0

I like it when I'm in the office. But it is a hassle to use when I'm not.

Pros

Time keeping and billing processes (e.g., the way time is entered and converted to invoices).

Cons

Time Slips needs to be web-based. The only reason my firm has an in-house server is to use this software.

Reason for choosing Sage Timeslips

### "Hope you never need to change your payment method. "

April 24, 2023

4.0

I finally got connected with \[sensitive content hidden\] and that did the trick. He was knowledgeable and kind, despite my frustration after trying to get this done for 4-5 days. Sheesh. I’ve been billing via TIMESLIPS for 10+ years or I would switch to another program.

Pros

The program works fine. Customer support is ridiculously cumbersome. Do they really need this much security for a solo practitioner to change the payment information?

Cons

It took me almost a week to change the payment method on the account. When I tried to find a link through chat, that didn’t work. You have to go through a multi-step process to access your customer portal. And nothing is obvious from their website that contains the account info. Did their best programmer quit or something? This is crazzzzzzzy!!!

Reason for choosing Sage Timeslips

I had no choice. No other legal billing software was on the market.

Pros

Cons

### "Buyer Beware - Frequent New Versions and Very Long Waits for Tech Support"

May 14, 2018

3.0

Pros

I use it only for basics and it would have bee fine for that if they actually supported it. Even with Support the wait times were ridiculous. I was on for 3 hours and 5 minutes with them last week. Took 30 minutes just to get to a live person who could help.

Cons

Timeslips keeps "upgrading" software I do not need an upgrade for - and after 3 "upgrades" you have to pay for a new version or they cut off tech support (which suggests a financial incentive on their end that would explain the frequent upgrades). You do not get tech support for 3 years (which would be reasonable) - if they upgrade 3x in a year (which they have the right to do per the person I ultimately spoke with) then you have to incur substantial cost for a new version. Also, when you have tech support - the wait times are insanely long. As lawyers, we generally bill by the hour. In addition to my 3 HOUR experience last week, I was just on again this morning for 17 minutes before anyone live even answered. Then, that person needed to transfer me to someone but kindly agreed to stay on the line. They were on for about 5 minutes and finally they gave up and said they would send an email to that department to call me back (I am not holding my breath . . . ). This whole situation is crazy - they actually have software that will call you back if you hit "1" - but this option was only offered to me once (last week) and only after I'd been on hold for 15 minutes. BEWARE and do your diligence before purchasing this product.
