Their customer support team is amazing and answer your queries patiently. Pros Sage Timeslips is reliable straightforward for tracking time and billing clients. once it is setup logging time is easy and accurate and the reporting is strong enough for professional use. Pros I liked that it was simple to use and could generate reports easily- I used it for decades and loved it. Cons I have used Sage TS so long, that I actually used it on a paid for CD. The toggle function from entry to entry is the perfect way to edit and review multiple entries while saving time. Preparing bills was very easy. I like the locking of bills before approval stage. Cons Some of the functionality was either complicated or confusing. The interface at times was a bit dated. I felt that many details were not as easily explained without doing further research. That say more than any words could describe. Pros I have used Timeslips since just prior to the turn of the century. I am familiar with many aspects of the program and like it enough to retain. Cons It was more cost effective when I could purchase the program and upgrade only every couple years. Now it is annual subscription based which tripled my cost. There are also changes that happen with the A/R history that have been completely frustrating to fix. I just need more custom fields in the slip entry that can be used in reports. Pros Multi-user time capture and billing system. Easy to run single invoices that need to go out daily and large quarterly billings. Easy to look up details of past projects for clients and also running time reports of employees/per department. Cons We need more custom fields in the slip entry so that we can capture more information needed in our reports. Requests for Proposals are requiring more information and timeslips does not have the capability to capture all the necessary information that we need for most of our reports. Most RFP's ask for five years of information so it would really be nice if I could house all the information in a slip entry verses running a TS report and combining it reports from other systems. " April 27, 2023 4.0 I've used Sage Timeslips both as an employee (for 9 years) and now as a business owner. As a user, it was an excellent tool. As a business owner, setup is cumbersome and initial support is lacking. Pros Leadership utilizes the time tracking feature as part of our overall analysis for project efficiency. It gives our staff some insight into how their time is spent and where we as an organization can make improvements to process. It's invaluable. Cons Invoice template editing/creation is cumbersome. It would be very helpful to have access to templates or better how-to manuals. We have had a very difficult time with getting assistance over the phone for some of the billing/invoicing features which results in our spending an inordinate amount of time on the setup process. Wish the pricing was more afordable for a small firm, but we have no plans to change. Pros There are other billing platforms and products out there, but the consistent reliability of Sage Timeslips and its features make it a must-have for accurate law firm timeslips entry, billing, accounting, and maintaining client contact. Our firm has used Timeslips for over 20 years now. The customer service is one of th best for tech support as well. Timeslips tech support are incredibly knowleadgable and courteous. They often fix an issue within minutes of initiating a call for help, and they will also make sure to run a full diagnostic and fix other matters we might not know exist to ensure no additional problems arise. Cons No tech support on weekends. We sometimes have issues arise on weekends, and it would be ideal if there was support even if it was for a shorter time-period on the weekends. Since support is provided remotely, it is not clear why weekend support is not provided. For a business, we operate 24/7 and use TimeSlips daily. We cannot have a lack of access or some other issue crop up and wait till Monday to fix it. This cut-back was one major disappointment, especially given the costs for annual tech support contract. Reason for choosing Sage Timeslips Highly recommended by other attorneys/firms, and we took a training course (live) before buying, which really convinced us that it was the best choice for our firm. I would hate to have the expense of recreating my database, and while other programs indicate that they can translate my old database and copy it, I am comfortable with the software, although the increased expense and limited utility of the last several years of updates makes me assess how much longer it will be before I switch to a competing program at a lower price. I certainly am not receiving any discounts for customer loyalty. Pros Timeslips takes time to imput data, use and customize. But once you set up your system and create what you need, it speeds up your billing process and enables you to create very accurate billing records, and template vast amounts of information for subsequent use. The service and technical assistance providers generally come up with serviceable solutions and are very courteous and responsive, and I like the feature in which they send transcripts of the conversations after so I can use them and effect further repairs as needed. Cons Over the years, the program has grown and become so much more complex, and some aspects are harder to use. I wish the "knowledge base" was easier to use for those of us who are less social media based and less involved in internet "chats". I would prefer a database of short tutorials on basic usage issues. Also, although it is part of the industry, I really hated moving from owning the software to "renting" it and paying substantial annual fees for the software. For a smaller practitioner, this is very expensive and the updates don't really provide much benefit to me - my use of the software really has not changed over time, even though the software becomes more complex. We recently went through a decision of continuing or discontinuing. After review of many others, we decided to stay with Timeslips due to the cost for each "user". We need to group together some of our clients (separate bills but they are grouped together). Pros We really like that we can have numerous people listed and don't have to pay for each one. Example, Paralegal work; attorney's initials; groups of certain billing under one name. Cons Sometimes you have to hunt for a way to do a report. It is unfortunate that the reports that they have listed do not help us much. We always have to customize. I also dislike that you cannot just purchase the program. I used to love their support, but not anymore. It is the reporting capability that I love. I am also disappointed the budget portion of the program doesn't work. I used it all the time in past years, and now it doesn't function and is of no value. Pros I love the reporting capability. I also like that it is user-friendly. Cons The support. It is almost impossible to get an answer promptly from Support, and it is very cumbersome. I have to jump through too many hoops for someone to help me. I used to love the support, but it has become horrible in the last several years. The operating system is not stable. I have been using Timeslips for twenty years and have stayed with it due to its reporting capability. I have found it unparalleled to other billing software. This is by far the most efficient system and was very easy to transition to from other platforms. The HELP function is quasi-helpful - you just have to know the exact terms to find the right answers to your questions. Pros It is easy to use and menu driven. Tips for using the systems are available and informative. Cons Can't find where to change initial set up information like default preference for billing layouts. But I do recall that there were a lot of user issues and lack of tech support. Pros I recall that Timeslips was the first billing software I used as a full-time practitioner, and it was a good way to get a sense for how a billing software works, and to learn the value of keeping track of time for making money! I learned the business side of a legal practice in part from using Timeslips! Cons Our firm used Timeslips several years ago when the then-managing partner had purchased a limited number of user licenses for the software. After new partners came into the firm, and the firm was growing, the limited number of licenses became an issue, and I recall there were times when different attorneys could not access the system due to limited license usage issues. Then, the office manager and the firm partners were looking into whether it was possible to purchase additional licenses, and I think cost was an issue. We also didn't have access to tech support, which frankly I don't recall why except for maybe that service did not come with the type of licenses we purchased, or it was simply too much money than what the firm was willing to spend at the time. " May 6, 2023 4.0 I am a practicing cardiologist who uses Timeslips to track time and provide invoices for the time I spend as a medical-legal consultant. I database has been accumulated over 20 years. This is what I have not changed to a competing software product. The lack of integration with the web makes this product very outdated. Pros I have been using this software for > 20 yrs. I am familiar with how to use it don't want to learn a new system. Cons In the 20 years I have had Timeslips, it has changed little. It has gotten more expensive each year and currently requires an annual subscription. Tech support now requires an on-line submittal with follow up phone calls. Their tech support hours are not convenient if you work away from your home office. I pay for unlimited tech support since each call is very costly if you do not have the subscription. It was a little expensive, but not in comparison to other billing software programs out there. It was relatively easy to use, and we produced attractive and accurate bills for clients. It was only when my firm structure changed that Timeslips could not accommodate us for a reasonable price. Pros I found Timeslips to be relatively user friendly. I used it when I was in a partnership with another attorney, and our monthly billing seemed to run smoothly. I had come from another firm that used Tabs, and I found that Timeslips was less complicated overall to use. Cons We had some problems with Timeslips after closing our office and changing to remote only offices. We had been using it on a server, and when we tried to change that, it caused a lot of errors and we lost a lot of time trying to make it work. Ultimately, one partner stuck with Timeslips on his system, and I went to another cheaper software product instead of purchasing a second instance of Timeslips. It was frustrating that I had to start from scratch with all client data in the new system, but I don't really fault Timeslips because it certainly worked as needed when we purchased it for our server in the office. Reason for choosing Sage Timeslips We chose Timeslips because we had been frustrated with Tabs, and we found that Timeslips was a little cheaper at that time. It performed everything we needed it to, and it was relatively easy to use to produce bills and simple reports. My recollection is that Timeslips was cheaper, and it certainly performed every function we needed for our small firm. Tabs at the old firm was always a problem, and we had an administrator that purportedly knew how to use it. We did not want to continually struggle with the functions as we did with Tabs, especially where we would not have an employee dedicated to the use of the billing software (we were basically on our own to make it work). There are features I don't use, but I'm sure would be beneficial for others. Pros I didn't originally set it up, but I've been using it since June of 2011. I am so glad to have this program to do billing and timekeeping. It has saved me many hours. Cons I do wish the Nickname 1 field allowed more characters. Cons When trying to click on a task, if you have typo, it does not allow you to re-key the letter to drop down elsewhere in the menu. Pros I like the client portal, the ease of time entry and elements of billing. Cons I would like a better A/R listing as we use client number AND name and only client number shows up on A/R meaning I have to match before working on A/R. Some of our clients have hundreds of subclients and while we can work with the numbers list, it would be good to have name attached on report. Pros I love how Sage handles multiple types of billing and billing arrangements and it's multiple time and expense tracking feature. Cons The biggest downsides about Timeslips are that it is pricy and that it is not 100% cloud-based. Regarding the latter, in the new age of remote work, it is a huge detriment that the entire system cannot be managed online or fully integrate with other cloud-based software, such as case management software. Otherwise it is archaic, convoluted, ill designed, inflexible and inelegant software to be avoided if at all possible. Pros It's breadth of functionality....which would be fine if all that functionality were useable. Cons There is very little I do not dislike. The software makes my life immeasurably harder. It is confusing to setup. The screens are hard to read, and badly laid out. The ability to change something if you discover it did not do what you thought it would is sometimes non-existent and if it exists, arcane to discover and use. The number of potential steps in the billing process is ludicrous, and each step has its own set of rules and strictures. The help screens are ludicrous, rarely address a common problem and meaningful customer service virtually non-existent. The software offers few chances to simply eliminate things that are unwanted. I don't need two nicknames for every person, task, activity, etc. In fact, I don't need any. Why not simply offer a screen that says, do you want to use nicknames, and if the user says no...eliminate them. One would normally think you would want the time slip you open to default to today, without having to make a choice, and give you a choice to change to a different date, but no...One would think that if you wanted to round to the nearest x minutes you could make that choice as a default, and change to something different on as needed basis... I have rarely used a software program that leaves me as apoplectic and heightens my blood pressure as much as this one. There are numerous much more usable programs on the market, and had I been asked before purchase, I would have chosen one of them. Review Source SL Shannon L.
