### "Efficient EHR for 2025"

April 11, 2026

4.0

I had an a great experience with AdvancedMD when I was with the company that used it. It was a great improvement from the last EHR we had used. AdvancedMD worked a lot smoother then our past EHR and there was less bugs which helped with productivity.

Pros

I appreciated that this EHR was a lot more efficient and customizable than the last EHR we were using. It made scheduling patient’s fairly easy and the patient portal was nice so that communication between patients and practitioners was integrated into the system. Customer support was very fast and efficient which was nice because when issued this system it was new for the whole company. The use of AI integrated into the system was helpful also. It was also very easy to learn and customize to our needs. Patient Management was also a lot smoother with this system then the last system we had used. It was nice to have zoom integrated into the system for virtual visits.

Cons

We did a lot of group scheduling which sometimes did not go smoothly which would then make it hard for us to bill those sessions. However there was always a work around to make it work for us we just sometimes had to be a little more creative.

### "AMD, the EMR you love to hate "

February 23, 2025

4.0

I love the ability to send out my custom ratings to each patient prior to the appointment, refer to them in the appointment, and have them built into the final note. The telehealth powered by Zoom is very functional. My experienced biller swears by the PM module. By contrast, the eRx is painfully inefficient, and the eRx team shows little interesting is making it efficient. Love/Hate.

Pros

The EHR and PM (billing module) are well designed, efficient, and they work. The portal is very functional: patients can make appointments, make payments, see what medications were sent and the pharmacy to which they were sent, make out forms and submit them. Overall, the EHR and PM are powerful, if expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Cons

The eRx function is very inefficient. For example, to resend 4 medications, you have to select each one, hit "Resend" which then requires you to send each one individually, or save each one to the main console, select each one again, and then send. To resend 3 CII medications, you have to rebuild one Rx, which then can be duplicated, save to console, then reselect, and then send. AMD uses DrFirst EPCS which requires you to select each scheduled med individually, and then in the EPCS you have to select each one again, individually, enter a password, and then enter a rolled 6 digit code from Symantec VIP (rather than tapping ID.me's column that pops up on your phone. The most recent update actually removed a "Quick Resend" feature so that now, as described above, you have to click each Rx to resend at least twice instead of once and send. The AMD team has made it clear they are not going to restore this feature in response to the heated negative feedback in the "Suggestions"/feedback box. Be sure to have your salesperson walk you through the eRx function before committing to AMD to be sure you know the inefficiency and lack of user response you are getting into.

### "IF you e-rx, then do not get this program."

February 24, 2025

1.0

When I first purchased the program, they lied about its compatibility with Mac iOS. I had to buy an IBM clone laptop to get the software to work. After a year or so, it became compatible with Macs. Then, they loved to update their system during the week, which invariably caused an outage of service for 4 to 24 hours. They are currently better at this. Now, they have made e-prescribing a burden, increasing physician work and decreasing the time the physician has to interact with the patient. They have not been responsive to multiple physicians and NPs asking them to fix this. Indeed, they seem proud that they have made e-prescribing much more difficult and time consuming!!!

Pros

Can customize to a SOAP format for notes.

Cons

Prewscribing is a nightmare. If you prescribe controlled substances this is not the program for you.

### "AdvancedMD EHR"

November 7, 2024

5.0

Pros

The thing that I appreciate the most about AMD is that if / when I cannot find an answer to an issue that I am facing through the extensive library of training and support videos and articles, the support desk is just a phone call away and are always quick to resolve my issues.

Cons

The biggest con that I face with the software is the inability as an administrator to delete certain things. Our clinical staff do not always pay attention to details, and sometimes things happen that need to be deleted.

### "Very disappointed in implementation, training and customer service"

June 14, 2023

2.0

I feel like I would have issues with any system, we cannot expect perfection, so overall it's not terrible. Honestly the most baffling part is the incompetency of the support and tech team. When things go awry, that is the point of a support team. We have been using AdvancedMD for about 8 months, I know more about the system than a majority of the people I have spoken to in the support department. If you choose this system, just know you will need someone very intuitive and willing to be a problem solver without the help of AMD.

Pros

Basically everything our sales guy promised us we got, great price, features that we knew we needed are available. (switched from paper charting, so went in completely blind).

Cons

Their customer service is by far my least favorite part. The implementation team was terrible and barely trained us, anything I understand about the system is because I figured it out myself through hours of trial & error/google searches/etc. Nearly every question or system issue we have had has been left unanswered, and almost any time I've reached out to support I can tell they have no idea what I am even asking. - You have to understand coding to make a simple note template. - The notes OFTEN have internal issues that change the note AFTER its signed.- There is no admin level that allows editing of a signed note...even when its a SYSTEM error and not user error. - Reporting is a MESS and very unorganized and difficult to figure out. You have to pay extra to get another level of reporting for BASIC information.- Things glitch all the time, support never knows why.- Even though it is a

### "Mixed feelings"

June 23, 2022

3.0

The implementation process was pleasant, they always made it on time for their meetings and provided all the promised training. We launched on schedule. We love the advanced features it has like mobile capability, integrated fax, etc. We have had challenges with RCM, but it is still way better than our previous RCM manager.

Pros

We decided on AdvancedMD when we were changing software because of the competitive price. It also had lots of the features we wanted. -Mobile App -Patient Portal -Good analytic tools These tools all work and help our practice. Love the scheduler too. Our practice uses way less paper now that our patients can fill out forms on tablets. We were also sold on its usability for podiatrists, but I think this program is best suited for MDs- just look at the name!

Cons

None of the preset podiatry templates are usable for our DPMs, which is too bad. Some screens (scheduler) are super intuitive and clean, but other are clumsy and difficult to use (charge entry). I hope in further updates they can optimize the whole system. As others have noted, the template creator is difficult to use, and they charge a lot to get training or custom templates made by experts. We use them for RCM too, and that has been problematic at times. We were told during sales that it would only be a 1-2 hours of work per day for our office on billing and they would manage all denials and exclusions etc. This is only half true. They manage denials and exclusions by waiting forever to deal with them, or just sending them back to us if they don't know what to do. While they stay on top of the simple stuff like sending out claims and posting payments, we do most of the nitty gritty time consuming work. The Client Services team is responsive and you can always get someone on the phone quickly, but it can still take months to solve claims issues. They aren't the billing experts they claim to be, but it is still a useful service if you go into it with that expectation.

### "Very Frustrated with Every New Releases errors / system outage. "

February 1, 2024

4.0

Very frustrated from last year. As total system not available for over 24/48 hours or few hours. Help desk doing its job but those folks do not have all the answers or solutions for system failure. Sad part non of the Management or concern department ever contacted or written to explain what had gone wrong. We need explanation for Confidence in the Software / Technology and the team behind it.

Pros

Is a very good software but with growth AdvancedMD is losing its focus.

Cons

We have spent countless hours over the pasts 2 months trying to tech support for repeated software issues, and brown outs. Despite hours of lost productivity, and revenue, we have maintained a consistent effort to work with your team, and software. Despite this - we are continuing to a see decline in software functionality, and as a result are seeing massive impacts on our day to day operations and revenue. This is unacceptable. The basic premise of our contractual agreement with you, is that we should be receiving at least basic connectivity for the thousands of dollars we pay you. monthly. its been a norm every month either system or some function not available after a patch or release. Speed degradation is common complain. Our Practice, and patients and staff suffer as a result, and we lost lot our reputation with Patients and big financial lose for practice.

Reason for choosing AdvancedMD EHR

over 6 years ago AdavancedMD had those functions we were looking for.

### "Very Displeased"

September 9, 2022

3.0

Poor customer service, very limited features.

Pros

Once you learn how to navigate the system it is fairly straight forward. Integrating billing features into the chart is fairly easy.

Cons

Where to start... Not only is AdvancedMD not intuitive, it is plagued with glitches and system failures. The Dashboard and rooming feature rarely works for most of the staff. The e-scribing is terrible. Chart notes are cumbersome and become huge without essential integrations. Auto population of information is elusive and only goes so far (eg. a chart summary does not auto-populate with a patient's BMI from that day. It doesn't matter how good you are at programming and customizing templates, a lot of necessary features are not available (you learn this after spending hours on the phone with customer support.)

Reason for choosing AdvancedMD EHR

Cost was lower. I would not make this decision again.

### "Over-engineered, Underwhelming"

January 24, 2022

2.0

Our overall experience has been pretty terrible. Though there are very friendly staff on occasion who try really hard to solve our issues, the training/implementation was criminally subpar and the bait and switch really set our practice back by about a year in terms of growth. We will never be able to get that time back, unfortunately, and are relieved to have moved forward with a company that has visited us onsite and is doing the legwork of tailoring their EHR to our needs.

Pros

More robust billing features than other EMRs; the ability to charge credit cards on file at the end of the day.

Cons

Pop ups; nothing is intuitive at all; horrific training/implementation experience; literally no discovery was completed and our demo key was an ObGyn clinic setup when we are a counseling/psychiatric practice; bait and switch with about 50% of the promised features costing a LOT extra if you actually want meaningful reports; reports that are included in regular subscription are absolutely useless; incredibly glitchy- our prescribers cannot e-prescribe on an almost-weekly basis and it requires one of them to cancel patients to make the call to AMD since only someone with prescribing abilities is able to talk to the support staff and show them what is happening; correcting wrong copays takes literally hours to do since AMD overcomplicates the process for updating this with an ERA. This system really requires that you have the infrastructure of about 10-20 admin support staff to manage all the features. It is not ideal for a behavioral health practice at all. We are walking away after just under 12 months and have switched to a new EHR that is a fraction of the price but designed for behavioral health. Our aging report quadrupled since being with AMD.

### "Not ready for mental health"

March 21, 2018

3.0

If you're looking for a powerful billing platform this may be a good system for you to consider. However, if you're looking for a full PM/EHR system to manage a mental health practice this system is not ready and costs too much for what you get.

Pros

\- Great billing platform with many ways to keep track of claims and payments - We're able to manage 3 locations with a single system - The system overall has a lot of great capability and most of the functionality we were looking for in a PM/EHR system. However, as noted below there are issues with how some of these capabilities work. - Templates can be customized

Cons

\- The EHR is not user friendly and leads to many new users creating notes that are not connected to a session as well as multiple redundant notes for a session. - There is no easy way to track missing notes other than going session by session for each chart - The standard reports are generally not very helpful as they provide few ways to customize and filter. The filters that are present are often not logical ways to filter data. What's more frustrating is that there are actually more useful reports that are in the system but they cost additional money to be added to a user's key. For example, a common filter type is to filter a range of providers alphabetically. AdvancedInsight does provide an enhanced reporting capability (for an extra cost) that relies on Internet Explorer and MS Silverlight all of which are old technologies. It is also somewhat difficult and time consuming to learn and still does not provide the ability to customize reports in the standard report capability. For that you have to pay AMD to make the changes or to add the report that already exists to your key. - Printing chart notes requires a time consuming process of creating a Microsoft Word Merge template for each note template and then printing each note one by one. The Word Merge templates are complex to create and manage. - Our sales rep guaranteed us a 95% first pass acceptance rate. After 7 months we are at 89%. There are several reasons for this and the company has provided us a credit but don't be fooled by the promises of their sales team. - Adding new providers can take up to a month. Again we have been promised a 24 hour turn around time and yet sometimes have to wait weeks to get new providers added to our system. Note: we have the ability to add Users but only AMD can add providers.

### "Too unreliable and pricey "

March 31, 2023

3.0

The support is good from time to time. There are plenty of times I've spent 2+ hours on the phone with support without a resolution. The support staff is inconsistent. They would rather keep you on the phone for hours than ask a supervisor for help. I've had issues with the scheduler where we collect payment which has forced us to move to another system. It's totally inconvenienced our practice and messed up workflow when their system goes down for long periods of time. I've had issues with e-prescribing on multiple occasions.

Pros

The EHR is fine itself. It has plenty of features.

Cons

The product is very expensive and unreliable. It is very glitchy and not the most user-friendly for our therapists. We've gotten several complaints from them. The software has a lot of potential but there are too many little nuances that make it inefficient and difficult to use. Currently, my schedule is down and this is how we operate and collect copayments. Unacceptable for it to be down for extended periods of time like this without proper notice or warning. We rely on this software to run our practice.

Reason for choosing AdvancedMD EHR

We choose Advancedmd because we had Nuemd before and we felt the transition would be the easiest moving to this software.

### "Like the PM/EHR (even with pop-up ads), avoid Billing Service."

September 6, 2016

2.5

Pros

There is more functionality built into the reporting side than we will ever use. We're a small practice (1 provider) and in terms of the software (PM and EHR), it exceeds our needs in functionality in almost every way. The user interface is a bit cumbersome (and now includes pop-up medication advertising, which is annoying...) in our setting (Family Practice), but not too complicated. The system up-time has been impressive. In the last year, I don't recall more than 2 brief interruptions, the longest of which was about 1/2 of a day and corrected by the next AM when we returned to work.

Cons

There are a couple of significant downsides to Advanced MD, particularly the Billing portion of our service. Keep these things in mind if you're a small practice looking for a comprehensive software package (PM/EHR/Billing): Advanced MD is expensive relative to other comprehensive packages out there. I called to ask for a reduction, and was told that they would like to raise the rate to 9% because our monthly net income was lower than the average. They didn't raise it, but it set us out to explore other vendors. Not one competitor has quoted us over 6% for the same services. And not every vendor has a monthly minimum. We also receive pop-up medication advertisements in our patient EHR. Advertisements in our patient charts for medications... I called tech support asking about the ads shortly after they started and was told, "We can't remove them, they're part of the software." \]It seems surprising to see ads pushed in the software. Aside from the price and pushed ads, the software works well. The billing service, not so much. We had been using Advanced MD for over 1 year before we were given a person to contact for issues related to our service. They gave us an Account Manager a little over a month ago. In general, if you can deal with the forced advertisements within an expensive software package, don't require assistance or guidance aside from internet videos, you will do well with Advanced MD software. The same can't be said for the billing service, but for most practices, I would imagine that is a separate issue and expense. We chose to bundle and it is evaluated as such. If you just stick to the PM/EHR, even at the price, I think it is a decent software package.

### "PM is great, EHR is just okay"

January 17, 2018

4.0

Overall, I am very happy with the PM and "2-3 out of 5" happy with the EHR. Once you become familiar with the difficult quirks, it just becomes second nature. However, what is "second nature" for me now would be appalling to someone who is familiar with a most customizable, more user-friendly EHR.

Pros

The scheduling part of Advanced MD is so intuitive. To move an appointment, just click, select "move", and click on the date and time you want instead. I like how you can customize the time intervals, color code appointment types, and assign each a default length of time. Adding a patient is easy. Making billing notes, sending messages/tasks, entering patient info, are all quick and simple. There are nice features in the EHR, such as being able to pull in medication history from a national database, look up pharmacies, customize acronyms and use pull-down menus to drop in often-used phrases.

Cons

Actually customizing the templates is quite difficult if you have not been formally trained by Advanced MD specialists, which costs extra. Trying to figure it out yourself online via training videos is next to impossible because it is not customized to your situation. Also, finding training videos to answer specific questions is also near impossible. In order to print a note out, you have to select a "WordMerge" option from a menu, then click several times until a word document opens up, which you can THEN print. Far too many clicks just to print out a note, in my opinion. I have not found a simple way to print out all of a patient's notes, so I end up repeating this process many times when an entire medical record is requested -- VERY time consuming. Advanced MD offers all sorts of conferences and trainings, but they all cost outrageous amounts of money, and most are in a location where you would have to travel to get there. I wish training was more accessible and not so costly. I wish creating templates were more intuitive and more easily done by a regular run-of-the-mill user.

Cons

There are several different ways/processes to do the same thing in the system. This can be great, because each person thinks differently and can achieve the same goal. However, this makes it difficult to train and have consistent processes because there are so many different ways to do one thing.
