## What is Simul8?

Simul8 helps teams test process changes in a visual simulation before putting them into practice. Build a model of work moving through an operation, account for demand, staffing, equipment, and variability, then compare scenarios to see potential effects on throughput, waiting times, utilization, and cost. Manufacturers can examine production bottlenecks; healthcare teams can assess patient flow; and supply chain teams can test inventory or layout choices. Simul8 supports spreadsheet data, offers more advanced modeling through Visual Logic, and can work with Minitab Connect to refresh operational inputs. Teams can also publish approved simulations to Minitab Solution Center for stakeholder review.

Especially for queueing simulation, it is the most efficient software I reviewed! The toolbar is user friendly!

Pros

Time saving, immediate visualization of the variables, shorten the time of analyzing prior decision making, especially for presentation to executive level!

Cons

The cost of training material, if the training material is for free, it would be more motivating to soread it in the supply chain ecosystem !

This is a very helpful tool that beats Excel in modeling dynamic systems. Interactions that affect system behavior in reality are easily captured.

Pros

It is very easy to get started and make useful models quickly. The visual dynamic display is great for communication.

Cons

Very advanced features are harder to implement. Basic programming knowledge will always help in any case.

My experience is only with introductory courses, and I’m thinking about implementing it in some of my classes at the industrial engineering level.

Pros

This simulator makes it possible to analyze different types of processes, services, and production to measure the key indicators and make decisions before carrying out any investment.

Cons

Even though it’s very intuitive, it still requires knowledge of how to use the software, and the licenses do involve an investment.

Very good, great presentations. All the answers were very torough and show that the range for this is very big

Pros

Very complex, in a good way. This can be used for a lot of things to increase outputs in production and id like to learn more.

Cons

Would need individual training to set up. I find that once its set up its a great tool but to apply it to my area, i would need help

Simul8 is very easy to understand. I used simio and arena ten years ago and not used simulation since but this software is very easy for me to use considering I am a rusty simulation user.

Pros

The copy and paste function is very handy to cut time invested creating a simulation model. I want to learn more functions outside the demo seminar.

Cons

i have not seen any cons since I have only seen the demo trial from the seminar today. I hope the price is accessible.

Pros

It has some good features such as importing/exporting data via Excel easily. It provides ready to use simulation results. Visual logic is perfectly helpful for interact the simulation as user wants.

Cons

The software always hangs while we're using/creating simulations. In addition, due to huge amount of data is imported to the software, it slogs on to process the data. The graphs display poor visualisations.

I have a positive experience with Simul8. My final thoughts are:-If you are an engineer in a corporation and want to simulate discrete processes I absolutely recommend using simul8 over any other product in the market-If you are a freelancer or a simulation firm working for clients, this may not be the best choice for you. Either go for Anylogic, Simio, or Flexsim since they give you 3D capabilities

Pros

I have used Arena, Anylogic, and Simio prior to moving to simul8. I believe simul8 is the best option for 90% of users if you want to simulate discrete event processes. The main advantages of simul8 are:1) Extremely easy and intuitive2) Online trainings are helpful and set you up for success. You don't really need to google for majority of your needs3) Very affordable compare to other software that are usually +$20k per user. Simul8 costs only $5k / user Most importantly, based on my past experience you don't need a 3d simulation in your projects to communicate with stakeholders since they don't care about how beautiful your simulation is. Usually they don't even care how it looks! They only want results and recommendations. They know their processes very well and simulation is just a tool to help them make better decisions. So save your many and don't purchase an expensive software because they provide 3d visuals. Simul8 is the only tool you need if you are about to do discrete event simulation.

Cons

Simul8 has weakness in two areas:1) Charts are very old school. They remind you of Window 98. They are good enough for yourself, but if you want to have them in your presentation I recommend exporting the data and using excel.2) All features are somewhere in properties and tabs. You need take your time to learn where they are and this takes time if you are simulating complex processes
