Although I am not a heavy user I do not have many complaints about the software while I am using it. For engineers this is a useful tool to make informed decisions about their process. Pros This software allows me to simulate process flow to guarantee production rates. The ability to program the software is key to complex scenarios. Cons I find that there is a learning curve to being proficient at using this software. It could benefit from a cleaner looking UI. Review Source Harry N. I was recently in contact with \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\], an employee at Simul8, regarding assistance with a project I am currently undertaking in my final year of my mathematics degree at university. Not only was \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] extremely considerate of my lack of knowledge within Simul8, but his impressive depth of knowledge and thoroughness of his teachings has helped to provide invaluable information and insight into Simul8's diverse and powerful modelling tools. I cannot articulate how magnificent \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] was and highly recommend that any queries or troubles one may encounter with Simul8 that you seek \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] support; he is an erudite in Simul8! President Executive Office Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Useful For Work Flow Planning" January 29, 2020 5.0 I used this product in depth to help consulting clients see and understand their process dynamics. I found this product excellent for that purpose. I found I was able to use video recordings of current and future state simulations to convince people to go forward with particular process improvement plans. I struggled a bit with modeling the process at the right level of detail, but that was a learning curve issue of mine. I would definitely buy this product again for this purpose. Pros Easy to set up models quickly. Capable of modeling detailed nuances if you want it. Cloud-based functionality available. Cons There's a learning curve. (But it's worth it.) Hard to record videos of a simulation run. (I used a third-party program.) Hard to know what level of detail to use. Reason for choosing SIMUL8 I am an MIT graduate, and I noticed that the product was being used there to teach simulation. I decided to go with it for that reason. Review Source KN Kanchanit N. Pros \- Easy to understand of the UI of the software- Several options to set for simulation- Great diagram- Easy to interpret results Cons I used a student version of the software when I was a Master's degree student. Pros SIMUL8 model building blocks are simple to use but are packed with a lot of customizable attributes to model machines and other resources that are common in manufacturing systems. The SIMUL8 programming language (Visual Logic) gives additional customization capability and control of the simulation details. Moreover, Visual Logic programming environment offers simple interfaces and procedures to build the code. Sharing simulation online is an excellent feature to review simulation models with collaborating teams. Cons So far the support of the software to build 3D simulation models is limited. I have used this software to simulate how cath labs and device follow-up clinics operate, and how they can increase efficiency. I have published results in a peer reviewed medical journal and used output to influence internal strategies. The method (discrete event simulation) and the tool (SIMUL8) form an intuitive and powerful message. The support from the company is top notch. The software downloads, installs and operates easily. I don't often need help, but when I run into problems they immediately point me in the right direction for resolution, often going beyond what I ask for to point out better/more efficient ways of solving the problem than I had considered. Pros Flexibility - I can simuate most anything I can imagine Ease of use - I tried other simulators and could barely get simple simulations to work, with SIMUL8 I had reasonable simulations going within days of completing the training Power/Efficiency - I have simulated hundreds of thousands of virtual patients in a single simulation on a Windows laptop Cons The documentation of some of the more esoteric functions can be a little thin. As a statistician I used to think SAS had the best service and support, but Simul8 tops them which I didn't think was possible. Pros Great tool and very powerful. Like everything there is a learning curve, but you can get good results very quickly and as your learning progresses, you can build even more insightful models. Cons Don't have any big dislikes. The graphics are not quite as elaborate as some other packages, but those packages are more expensive. The graphics quality does not detract from the results of the models. Review Source CS Craig S. Very visual, easy to see how work items move through the simulation and quickly identify problem areas such as bottlenecks. Results of each activity are easy to see and has great functionality to create personalized reports. Cons Steep initial learning curve ( as with any new software), once I got the hang of it it was easy to use and became second nature. I would say that the training courses show you the basics with some in depth learnings but there are various things that I learned along the way that are not covered in the training courses. The stochastic nature of the runs give us very good representations of the models we are working with; this allows us to inform the stakeholders using valuable analysis. Pros Particularly very easy to use as a starter; having a clear idea of the process is most of the job done because, it is easy to implement- thanks to the user-friendliness of the software. Cons Nothing of note, although slightly frustrating that scroll zooms and ctrl scroll moves the window as opposed to other software where it's the other way round. This support is what sets SIMUL8 apart and allows basic users to create models to support business decisions. Pros This software was extremely intuitive and easy to get up and running fast on your first model. I also highly recommend their in-person training classes. The training staff are approachable and take the time to personally meet you at your skill level to help you understand and complete models. Cons None for my personal use. I have seen some competitive products 3D floor layouts visuals that look slicker, but I don’t find this beneficial for my application of discrete event modeling. This could be my technical understanding of the software and not the software capability. They are always available to help during working hours and are able to give advice on the problems I have encountered. Pros Being an Excel super -user, I find that SIMUL8 makes it easier for non-technical people to visualise the structure of the model and also follow patient movement along the model. Cons There isn't a lot of material available online for a first-time user and also, there isn't a community of users who discuss issues they may have encountered in using SIMUL8. The representatives we have dealt with from Simul8 have been fantastic assets. They have been so so helpful supporting both staff and students in our use of the software. Pros Simul8 has been easy to learn for my students, and the support on offer from their customer service team through supporting delivery of a lecture and the Simul8 academy has been very helpful to them all. We have been able to design an assignment focussed around the software, which students have thoroughly enjoyed and felt it gave them real life practical skills using simulation software. Pros Simul8 for me has two main advantages. First its model building paradigm based on objects facilitates model building. In second place it uses three phase method as simulation engine which enable speeding up simulation runs. Cons Some modules can be enhanced. The fact that students can build simulations without coding is really helpful, and the graphics help the concepts become really clear to students. It's the first simulation software I've ever used and after being introduced to other available software it will also be the last software I use. The software is very user-friendly and easy to use. Visually, the results can do most of the talking for you and is very powerful and easy to understand for all audiences. The visual logic feature is extremely useful, however I find myself emailing the support team quite a bit for help with it, I'm not sure whether this is because I didn't have training in it, but I sometimes struggle to find helpful online tools to help me with my visual logic problems. However, when I can't find the solution the customer support team can. They're extremely helpful and will always provide you with an answer, but they'll also always provide additional information on the topic that's troubling you and will help teach you how to find the solution, so this particular problem won't trouble you in the future. Pros Simul8 is probably the the most comprehensive yet easiest to explore simulation creation program in the market. User interface is highly optimized to enable the user reflect the paper version of the model to the visual graph. Cons Simul8 has great 2D visualization tools however it fails when it comes to 3D visualization requirements. I have used it to help provide direction to plant layouts and operational patterns for production. Great tool to use for communication. Cons Software can be a little buggy. Chief of Staff Public Safety Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great support for an easy to use product" November 25, 2021 5.0 The Simul8 model has helped us see how our contact centre performance might be effected by changes in demand and services we offer. The ability to run different scenarios takes the guesswork out of our resource management and allows us to present compelling business cases to both staff and management about what is needed. As a charity we benefited from pro-bono support from Simul8, but always received assistance and help whenever we asked. The team really have been superb and helped us evolve the model as we used it. I can't recommend them highly enough. Pros The Simul8 model is really easy to use after the initial set up, uploading different potential shift patterns and/or demand and seeing how this changes our potential performance over time. Outputs, in the form of both performance figure and graphs, help us see where the issues build up over the day/ week etc and trial difference resource patterns to address these. It requires no technical skill to use on a day to day basis, making it accessible and therefore used regularly. Cons There were a few glitches when inputting data; you have to be consistent with your data formatting and user error crept in.
