Pros: Variety of functionality. Mulitple features. Good customer service associates are available for help / solve the issues. They are very knowledgable.

Cons: A bit tough to set up the software. More specific information is required rather than reading and finding it yourself. The software can be little more user-friendly. Not accurate answers are provided when we run the report.

Pros: I like that it lets us build a database to use when putting together estimates. I work for a design build and it is very helpful in my line of work.

Cons: The thing I like least is probably an error on my company's end... my program will auto quit when the software doesn't have internet access...

Comments: IN general it is a great system.

Pros: I love that everything interacts. The help line is great. They are very knowledgeable and willing to help solve my problems.

Cons: Some problems are hard to find. When there is a discrepancy, it is hard to locate. Perhaps some tutorials on how to find certain discrepancies would be helpful.

Pros: User friendly for new employees. Has all modules you will need for construction software. Really liked it at first.

Cons: Customer service is lacking. You pay a lot of money for something you end up looking up yourself or they look it up and read to you and could do that yourself. Having used the product I usually know more than they do on specifics. It is very frustrating. The training online is very old fashion needs to be updated.

Pros: How every facet of a business is all integrated, from Job costing, payroll, accounts payable/receivable and general ledger

Cons: Had the estimating program for awhile. Found it a little cumbersome for a small business as we don't have the personnel to keep the data base up to date on a regular basis. Nice how it integrates with Job Costing however.

Pros: The integration- My project managers can estimate a project and we can track the job costs and accounting in the same software.

Cons: It hard to teach to others. Not the easiest user interface. People find it confusing. But I make it easy by setting up shortcuts to the tasks they use (clear lien waivers or the couple common job cost reports the project managers use)

Comments: I feel that the knowledgebase needs a lot of work. Too many steps to get to your product. Most of the time, if I pull up a request that has more than one page of listings, I get an error message when I try to go to the second page. It has become almost useless.

Pros: I like the simplicity of the accounting side and the integration between job cost and general ledger. I feel it is user friendly for learning the product in almost all aspects.

Cons: Would like to see a simpler change order process with more connections between the subcontractor and the owner changes. Would like to see fewer glitches such as the "use last job" option does not work in project management under certain versions and occasionally I get invoices that show that the payment is open when the checks are cleared.

Comments: Overall this software has given us everything we need.

Pros: It is very versatile. We were able to train ourselves on modules that we never used by using the knowledgebase and user group website so I would say it is fairly user friendly.

Cons: Accounts Receivable reports still need work. You can run 3 different reports and get 3 different answers.

Comments: I have been using Timberline/Sage for over 20 years. I really like that I can find answers I need through the Sage Customer Support Portal

Pros: The payroll module is great. It has the ability to produce Certified Payroll Reports and with the Aatrix feature, all your quarter and year end taxes are easily done for you.

Cons: I don't like the Accounts Receivable Module. It's cumbersome and not easy to use. The Aging Report is useless. I have to do a manual report.

Comments: I like the fact that there are people who support the product and have the answers or who will go get them in a timely fashion.

Pros: I like the ease of each module and how they interconnect with each other. We do an inhouse payroll for job costing, and the software is user friendly

Cons: I don't find any faults with the performance. I use the help for each module, and sometimes find it not as easy to ask the right question to get the answer to the problem.

Pros: process data very quick, strong customer support, user friendly, Easy upgrade from entry-level accounting applications. Easy to change dashboard widgets. Customizable, ribbon-based navigation menus. Successful mobile access from multiple operating systems using Google Chrome. Customer relationship management (CRM) available in the 300 product line.

Cons: Custom report design is not easy to learn; Payroll and inventory unavailable as 300 components. No hard timetable for adding modules. No flowchart/process navigation. Limited dashboard widgets on screen. No drill-down or navigation capability.

Comments: Overall we have been using Sage (formerly Timberline - we still call it that) since 2003. Very happy with this product.

Cons: Sage Knowledgebase search is difficult. Sometime have to word different ways before finding an answer. Can be unforgiving sometimes with errors.

Comments: Again, Sage Customer Support can not be beat with their knowledge and professionalism to their clients.

Pros: Our company specializing in millwright, rigging and custom metal fabrication and Sage 300 CRE helps our company with certified payroll, union payroll and dues, job costing, purchase orders and subcontractor tracking. Also account payable and accounts receivable modules are easy to use, and it really helps us to streamline our operation. Sage Customer Support are most wonderful people to help solve issues you might have with financials or with a payroll.

Cons: The only con with Sage 300 CRE - it will take time to be trained all the modules this software has to offer. If you make a mistake my advice is to look at Sage Knowledge Base for answers or call Sage Support Team to make an appointment to help resolved the issue. You have to be very careful and pay very close attention with accounting dates and closed months with this software.

Comments: I don't have a reason to change software products.

Pros: Ease of use Easy to learn and get accustomed to Has been around a long time Recent improvements (last 7-8 years) to the software (Xcel downloads, employee set ups, My Assistant) More 3rd party products that communicate well or easily with Sage 300 (i.e. PO/AP software, electronic clocks)

Cons: I don't like the extra layer on support. It is inevitable that we need the 2nd level for almost every call. No drill down links between modules. There are a few things (I can't think all of now) that you can tell an accountant was not completely involved in setting up. One example, putting a negative in front a number in the credit column on some reports and not on others. The inconsistency can be confusing. Is it a credit or a negative credit (which = debit).

Comments: Love the system despite the checks issue.

Pros: we love the upper management access to information and reporting. Easy for them to access information that directly affects the business without asking for information from each department.

Cons: THE CHECKS - If the alignment on checks is off, they look terrible. The checks have to come with the lines and headers already printed, which really causes problems. This changes with each printer used. Solution? Print the entire stub including headers and lines so that the checks look great no matter the printer or module!

Comments: Great for construction accounting...needs to get up to speed on financial reporting features.

Pros: The software has all of the features needed to track project costing which can be very complicated side of a company in the construction/real estate industry.

Cons: There needs to be better reporting in terms of being able to drill down on data in excel to do analysis. Some reports export to merged cells. I have used many other softwares and they are lightyears ahead on reporting capabilities.

Pros: Sage 300 is a user-friendly, fairly easy to navigate software. It is especially helpful in tracking subcontractor change orders and budget adjustments. The standard reports provide information that is easy to understand and is very helpful in figuring out where your project stands financially at any given point in time.

Cons: It is easy for users to document change orders inconsistently, there is a lot of room for variance which means that the documents produced can vary in appearance from one user to the next.

Pros: The software is fairly good to use and gives very good reporting data to manage a business valued between $100M to $500M.

Pros: It's a good program for job costing and construction type cost accounting. It is also fairly easy to navigate for all other aspects.

Comments: I highly recommend Sage 300 to any contractor out there. It's ease of use and numerous modules make tracking things like inventory, job costing, cash management etc a breeze. All modules sync up to the General Ledger and at the end of each month, we are able to see how we are progressing. This has helped us catch numerous mistakes on our end. Whenever there is a problem, we will phone the Sage call center. They are able to troubleshoot things in no time. Not only do they help fix the mistake they also teach you how to spot them yourself. The odd time we have had to escalate a problem to the programmers they always end up contacting us back the same day. I started using Sage 2 years ago with very little knowledge of the platform and accounting in general and through the proper training, customer service, excellent help articles and Sage U I can confidently say that I have mastered this program. I could never see myself using another product after Sage 300.

Pros: Ease of use Customer Service Training and Sage U Reporting Custom Reports to fit your business needs.

Cons: Other than the odd Software Glitch which Sage is more than happy to fix I have no real complaints. Anytime I seem to bring something up that would make the product better Sage seems to be working on/implementing that change.

Comments: I was asked by software advice to do this review. We have an older version of the software, so the cons I listed may have been solved.

Pros: Timberline offers a lot of reporting capabilities and customization; Every piece of information you need regarding a job or a customer's account is easily accessible.

Cons: Cumbersome-- have to do a lot of double entry, cannot easily find information needed in one application while working in another (must have multiple windows open at the same time), accounting information is very involved and not easy to use for someone who does not have an accounting background.

Pros: I liked the ease of use. I learned how to use it with very little instruction. I was able to navigate it and input information with no problems. It had icons that made it extremely easy to use.

Pros: I believe the software is easy to use and teach to someone. For the most part we receive updates on a timely basis.

Cons: Sometimes we don't receive State information on a timely basis. Also it would be very helpful if Sage would send all customers an email when issues come up like the Pervasive license expiration issue, so we are all aware of problems like that.

Pros: It meets the needs of construction companies and allows for a full variety of modules that are integrated to prepare financial statements. Technical support is very useful but the frequency of my calls to get help should be less.

Cons: The linkages between modules can get confusing since I am required to post in multiple modules in order to retrieve the data that I require in one module.

Comments: If I wasn't working such long and demanding hours, I would like to look into Sage University educational opportunities...as I do believe many questions I STILL have, could be answered there. ONE THING that would be useful, IMHO, would be a detailed listing of the online classes/tutorials that are available, and the list of topics/subjects that they deal with.

Pros: Sage is an amazing product, with so MANY complex programs and modules. There are (literally) dozens of reports and functions that I still know little to nothing about (after 3 yrs of working with the product). It's got everything a general contract would ever need, and then some. Customer support (GOLD) is awesome (tho expensive) . 99% of the time, I have had pleasant, knowledgeable, helpful, experienced assistance from Customer Support. The individuals who work in Customer Support helped me make it that first year, and there is no question of that. Their patience and their availability (and their sense of humor) helped me retain my sanity, that first year (04/14 - 04/15)....hands down.

Cons: The complexity of it....each module is multi-faceted and highly complex (and complicated). If a person comes on the scene (such as myself) with no prior construction experience, it's very difficult to simply "pick it up". Also, In order to have Gold Support (a genuine necessity, unless the office employee has a degree in accounting...OR...10 years of prior construction experience) is very expensive. We are a small construction company, and the thousands of dollars we pay, each year, for Gold Support, is not an easy check to write.

Comments: Overall I think Sage 300 is the best software in the JC accounting area that there is.

Pros: most of the time it is very self evident about how to get around the software and how to use. The menus are easy to follow and the support from the consultants, TUG and Sage is very helpful to the user.

Cons: Need so have some better enhancements to AR ( Zero Deposits) some things that are so easy in other software programs seem so hard to complete in Sage 300

Pros: What I like best about the software is it is easy to get around in and user friendly.

Cons: The AR needs to be improved, an AR report shouldn't take hours to run. I have to run the report before I leave at night and still have to wait in the morning for my report to actually print.

Overall: Started working at this company and was given little training. I was able to maintain around easily in the SAGE and before I new it, I was closing projects out and cleaning up open payables. SAGE is user friendly.

Comments: I find the software extremely easy to use and manipulate. Doing "what if scenarios" is a snap. Sage provides a permanent record for estimating which is repeatability, assemblies and models that provide fast and accurate results, and data that is not easily corrupted. Comments: From the accounting standpoint, Sage 300 offers everything you would need to get the job done at a basic level from a general contractor's standpoint. Pros: It is very difficult for someone to go into the product and make changes unintentionally.

Cons: It can be difficult to create customized reports and it is costly to add additional modules.

Overall: I am manager of accounting for a low income housing construction contractor. We use Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate for our job costing and general ledger accounting. I have found this product to be efficient, but not very user friendly. It is not easily compatible with Microsoft excel or other spreadsheet programs without the purchase of additional modules. Additional modules can be purchased, but are costly.

Recommendations to other buyers: It will get the job done, but may not be the most user friendly product on the market.

Comments: We were impressed by what Sage 300 CRE can offer and we consider that it is a reliable software, however, compared to other software solutions on the market, it doesn't look user-friendly which would make it difficult to implement and work with.

Pros: This software has almost all of the features we were looking for, with project management and accounting integrated which was one of our main requirements.

Cons: They have to update the look of their dashboard and all related screens, including the accounting part. Fairly expensive as well.

Recommendations to other buyers: It is definitely a software worth considering,

Comments: Coming from Simply and QuickBooks this software take you way beyond their functionality. Highly recommend for any construction companies to take this software on as it really goes above and beyond allowing you to track multiple projects, invoice using different products. The app entry allows such variations including Manual Cheque, E-transfers, Credit Card (entry by a vendor) and regular cheque runs. As a company we want to streamline double payments and this system allows us to catch many duplicate submissions. I can't say enough of how happy I am that it integrates with Excel and if you don't want to invest in excel custom reports if your accountant uses ODBC at all they can extract the information easily.

Pros: AP system (easy of entry, avoid duplicates Job Cost (track multiple projects, ensure they are invoiced, reports by vendor, by code) Cash Management System(reconcile your statements so easily, transfers between companies are so simplified, make an entry on the fly) GL (reports ...allow you to analyze your accounts)

Cons: Financial Reporting (out of the box reports are functional but not friendly to them eye comparable to simply/QuickBooks) but they do the job but would be nice to have better out of the box reports. That being said you can also order customer reports if that is what you are looking for.

Recommendations to other buyers: You can't go wrong if you are having a hard time tracking costs and staying on top of things in construction this is the product for you.

Comments: I have 4.5 years of experience with Sage 300 using AP, AR, PR,GL,CM,JC,PJ and it did require a few months to get used to all these modules and be able to proficiently use the system. I have found unlimited customer service as my major lifeline and learning avenue as every problem I solved was a learning experience and without this hands on I find there is no other way.

Pros: It has the ability to give detailed reporting, accurate reporting, and allows for data comparison for valuable decision making.

Cons: You have to have the proper report setup in order to get the information requested. If the reports are not setup with correct fields this will not allow the reports to be generated properly.

Recommendations to other buyers: SAGE300 is a great product to work with --It needs a lot of training as it is quite detailed however once one is proficient with the system this allows for data to be converted to valuable information.

Comments: Dennis Anderson Construction Corporation began using this software in 2005 when the product was called Timberline; however, at that time we only utilized some of its many functions, such as Accounts Payable, Payroll and General Ledger. In 2013, we decided to extend our contract with Sage and to take advantage of some of the other functions that we had not previously been using, such as Project Management, Billing, and Contracts, in hopes of tying all of our project information together into one software. Personally, I have only been using Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate for about five years but I utilize this software multiple times every day. It is my opinion that Sage 300 CRE is a user-friendly software (for the most part) and the modules we utilize capture all of the information exactly how we want it.

Pros: Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate support are PHENOMENAL! Whether it be through a live chat or a phone conversation, Sage support is always very helpful and they always show such care and concern in making sure your issue is resolved.

Cons: Year-End Support is very slow (1 hour + wait time) due to the high volume of customers in need of support. I would recommend that Sage hire additional support members to assist customers with Year End issues.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would recommend anyone who is new to Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate purchase a package that allows them unlimited support. Although Sage CRE provides Help Topics and Knowledgebase articles to assist with most issues, it gives great peace of mind to have that extra support, especially if you are a new user.

Comments: Sage 300 is a great product. I have been using it for 20 years. As a controller, the software provides the confidence managers look for. The accounts payable and job cost modules provide a wealth of information with just a click and they provide the necessary safeguards as well.

Cons: If the report writing was more user-friendly I would rate Sage 300 a "10".

Comments: Our company has been using Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate since 2000. We like that the different applications work so well together and cover the needs of our business for Job Cost, Accounts Payable, Cash Management, Payroll, Inventory, Purchasing, Billing and Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger. There are other applications such as Estimating, Equipment, Contracts, Document Management, My Assistant, Report Designer, etc., that are available as well. It includes Security Administration so that tasks are allowed to certain users or certain roles. The Payroll can handle multiple states, unions and certified payroll. The applications are flexible and offer a variety of ways they can be setup so they may be customized to your business needs. The support is great and Sage continues to meet the changing needs of the times, such as the recent ACA reporting requirements and new operating systems.

Pros: We really like Report Designer which allows us to modify the "canned reports" or create our own reports in a format we'd like to see.

Cons: It's expensive to purchase, but over the long run, it's been worth it. Not crazy about Desktop.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you have the opportunity to test the package with Sage's Sample Data, give it a try. The investment is worth it over the long run.

Comments: Sage Timberline is a rather robust software for construction purposes. Offering Cash and Accrual options, you can have a wide array of companies or entities established in Timberline to fit your particular needs. For a Property Management Company, though, the features are lackluster. From amending units to specifying a tenant buildout, the features within Timberline fall short of what I would call "high quality".

Pros: Construction and Estimating modules Event1 linking in excel.

Cons: Property Management, Report Design, Financial Statement Design.

Comments: Sage 300 is a very powerful tool. Sage has integrated a lot of tools into the system. However, a lot of the integrations are patchwork and really "band-aid" fixes as there are many kinks along the way.

Pros: There are many useful tools like inquiries for reporting, or importing for journal entries.

Cons: Most of the modules don't communication well with the other modules. There is A LOT of duplication in entering information because of this, so it takes a very long time to get setup and causes a lot of headaches.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be extremely careful when originally setting up the modules. I would be careful to not overly customize your suite. It has great capabilities of customization, but down the road, you will most likely regret not making things standard as each customization causes an issue in another module.

Comments: Sage works well for general contractors. Great for building work and some lump contracts, but we do some projects that have unit prices and it is difficult to change estimates/Budgets. We have customized job sheets in order to track changes in units based on bid time and final quantities. The system does not add dollar changes to prices in change orders/prices.

Pros: Job Cost is important for our financial means of to track costs. The payroll program works great for certified payrolls and paying different rates for job tasks. General Ledger produces easily readable FS/BS for yearly usage. Cash Management is a great tool for bank reconciliation. Accounts Receivables is great for tracking billings and payments on job contracts.

Cons: Customizing some reports have been a challenge.

Recommendations to other buyers: Talk to sales staff to see if the software will fit your company's needs

Comments: I have always found Sage to be very pro-active when there are issues to solve. Anytime I have a question or need help, they are able to give me the correct person to direct me in solving my problem. They have support at every level, no matter how difficult the solution. I especially like the live chat. It saves me a time when I only have a question or small problem.

Pros: I like the Live Chat feature. Sage also offers many different modules.

Cons: Sometime the reports are difficult to read.

Comments: We have been a customer since 1996. Overall, the product meets our needs. The product is reliable and cost efficient.

Pros: The product is cost efficient compared to other similar industry products. We are able to perform our day to day operations. Integration among modules is key.

Cons: Customer service has declined. Long wait times when calling in, first line support personnel are inadequately equipped to answer questions, and enhancement requests are ignored. The knowledge base used to be helpful but isn't as much anymore.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for a strong Project Management module, this may not be the software for you. If you need ease between Accounting modules with limited job cost and estimating integration, then it works fine.

Comments: I have been using this product for 12 years and have been very satisfied with it. I had no previous experience with accounting software and found it easy to pick up.The tutorials and help are excellent. Updates are easy to do and would advise getting one of the service plans. They are a huge help for those little oops moments that occur as well as when you encounter issues that are out of the norm. The CSR's are very helpful and will try and get you through your problem or find somebody that has encountered your issue. I've never been stuck with a problem that can't be solved. The modules integrate well from the construction aspects to the accounting side. After having used this product I was able to navigate Simply Accounting rather seamlessly also. I would definitely recommend it.

Pros: Easy to use. Frequent updates and improvements on a regular basis.

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely consider the gold service plan, it is of great use.

Comments: We have had Timberline/Sage software since 2000. It works perfectly for our construction business. Sage continually updates their software to make it even easier to use with more information.

Pros: Ease of use and how all modules are integrated.

Cons: Crystal reports. We don't have anyone trained on that or it would be great.

Recommendations to other buyers: Great program. Really, really consider it!!

Comments: Extremely limited especially in Procurement and no Document Control

Pros: Crystal Report template for Purchase Orders is adequate as a static document

Cons: Useless for material control and order expediting With the Procurement module, you cannot revise line item ship dates unless you issue a committed change order so useless for Open Purchase Order Report with received versus open and current delivery dates Accounting reports are poor

Recommendations to other buyers: There is a lot of better software out there just understand their costs

Comments: I have been working on Sage 300 since it was first known as Timberline. I have gone to many conferences to learn this product and have taught myself a lot about the software. This software is very easy to learn so if you are familiar with any construction & accounting software it is really easy to pick up. Sage is always trying to make then software more user-friendly and proudest specific for our construction industry. They are keeping up new technology and offer products to keep up with our changing world.

Comments: Been a Timberline user for 25 years. No changes to software in that time. Management oblivious to our concerns. Poor software support especially with Sage website. Can not recommend this software.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Payroll module WAY outdated for construction. Customer support non-existent as far as responding to queries about future changes in the product. Built-in report writing too simplistic. Crystal Reports work well but the database is slow when accessed via Crystal or MS Access.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look elsewhere.

Comments: Overall I felt it was a fairly useful product for the specific project that we inherited in on as it had the required cost controls and document controls functions. I do think it could be more robust with integration of schedule management.

Pros: Ease of use, cost controls

Cons: Schedule integration

Recommendations to other buyers: Consider what functions are most important and look into linking accounting software

Comments: We are just starting to work with this product and so far it is a mixed review. Highly functional software but user interfaces and reports have a lot to be desired.

Pros: Very functional and allows us to manage across multiple LLCs

Cons: User interfaces are not very friendly (ie. spreadsheet style input) System reports and inquires not very user friendly or attractive. Input screens are tiny in some cases.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure to test this software on your actual computer screen before purchasing.

Comments: Sage (formally known as Timberline) is great for the accounting side of the business but as it relates to using it for project management it lacks the ease of use and easy access. Mobile tools are necessary and this tool is not quite there yet.
If you are using it for Accounting then PROCORE is a great tool to integrate with Sage financial side and use PROCORE for the project management tools.

Comments: Sage 300 CRE is a very detailed system but needs a complete revamping. It is able to store a lot of pieces of information, but getting them out of the system require a lot of work. When I evaluate software, I look at how many steps (clicks) it takes to accomplish my task. Sage is the absolute worst of all the software options available. Unfortunately our accounting has been using it forever and the cost to change would be too expensive right now. It can best be described as a Windows 95 database because that's what I think of every time I have to use it.

Pros: Able to store a vast amount of information. Everything is broken down into modules and works well with multiple users. Does allow for customization of certain tables and modules.

Cons: Requires too much work to get to what I need. Tables of data cannot be sorted. For example, a list of contacts on a project cannot be sorted. They are listed in order of entry, which means I have to scroll through an entire list to find a contact. Same goes for some drop down lists. If I don't know the person's name, I can't search. I have to scroll through the list one click at a time because the scroll bars on the side don't scroll proportionally. One click on a side scroll bar takes you down 75% of the bar even if the list is really long. Getting information from the system requires customized reports, which you either pay for or get trained in Crystal Reports. I used to use Quickbooks Enterprise and was able to get more relevant information faster and easier than I do from Sage. Some of the screens can be expanded but do not show more information. It just creates more blank space so I spend a lot of time scrolling to get to what I need. The system as a whole is very out-dated. Search options are very basic...can't search for MEDICAL if the contact is entered as GREATER AREA MEDICAL CENTER. You would have to know it starts with GREATER AREA.

Recommendations to other buyers: When spending this much for software, I would evaluate all other options to be sure this is what you really need.

Pros: For the price, this can't be beat. It can do all of the same things as the more expensive software out there. This communicates with our online PM software, and our invoice review and approval software to streamline all aspects of our project management work flow and improve productivity.

Cons: Not the most user friendly. It doesn't have the fancy icons that other software does, but once you past that first layout learning curve and develop any custom reporting it is easy to understand and does everything you need.

Overall: Sage is the software we utilize for all of our PM/project accounting and budgeting tracking. This program allows us to enter budget, commitments, costs and track and report on these with up to date information and integrate with our other PM software for a more streamlined workflow.
