I was able to transfer my payroll info into Patriot quickly and efficiently using their help pages. The price for the payroll software is affordable for clients like myself who are solo practitioners. Cons There is a learning curve to using software like this, but that is to be expected. The platform is very easy to use. I am a very small business. I don't have time to keep up with all the federal and state payroll regulations. Patriot Software does that for me. When I need support, I always get a live agent RIGHT AWAY! I don't have to try and explain my problem to a robot. The price is remarkably low compared to other services I looked at. Pros Very easy to use. When support is needed, I always get a LIVE agent without having to go through several automated responses first. Cons I honestly cant think of a single aspect that I do not like. I didn't like that you couldn't set up recurring salary payments but that has been added recently. I was disappointed to have to move on. These limitations may not impact other businesses, and I would gladly return to Patriot Accounting if these issues are addressed. They truly are good people. Pros First, I want to clarify that this is NOT a negative review. After using QuickBooks for over 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Patriot Accounting offered everything my small business needed: exceptional customer service, reasonable pricing, and an attractive, intuitive online platform. Cons The software has two major limitations for a service business. First, it cannot accept deposits or progress payments for a job; payments can only be made against an existing invoice. While this might not be a problem for some, it created significant issues for me. Once a payment is applied to an invoice, the invoice is "locked" and cannot be modified. This restriction becomes problematic when a customer wants to add or remove a service from their project, or if I want to apply a discount for any reason. The workaround suggested by Patriot—using a journal entry to receive payments (to a bank account but not directly to a customer) and later deleting this journal entry to apply the payment to an invoice created at the end of the job—is completely impractical. The payment and the final invoice would often occur in different years and accounts receivable reports would become meaningless. It's not the cheapest, but they are very competitive and way easier to use than the other provider I was using. Pros I chose Patriot because I was frustrated with my previous vendor and they looked affordable and seemed reasonable. I have been greatly impressed with them since signing on -- their customer support is top notch: super responsive, the FAQs are very helpful, even their chatbot is worth using. I like the modern easy to use interface, and the fact that even the more niche deductions I need with my S-Corp are covered cleanly by the software. Cons I have no complaints about Patriot. When I got started with it, I needed a system to send recurring invoices, and not all accounting programs could do that. Cons Hard to change things if I make a mistake. Arbitrary limit on length of reference when recording payments. Some customers have non-numeric check numbers or very long check numbers. Patriot freaks out with this and the error message is not really helpful - we just know from experience what is happening. If I make a mistake, support can always walk me through fixing it. Pros Taking out payroll from QuickBooks to Patriot was the ABSOLUTE best thing we could have ever done. The cost was considerably lower, and they don't hassle us with additional fees for every little thing. AND they process our tax deposits! That's the best part of all. The customer support is superior to any other support I've ever used. The techs are kind, patient, and walk you through anything and everything. Running payroll is the easiest thing, takes no time at all. We've been Patriot client for over a year now and have not run into any issues or glitches at all. We recently converted to direct deposit without hiccups. The printed documentation as well as the how to videos are extremely beneficial. The employee payroll portal allow for employees to enter their own bank account information is a value add. Pros The price for the features offered is perfect for start up businesses. The software grows as your business grows and you can enjoy the bells and whistles that the software has to offer. Cons You can't save the payroll you've enter; add an employee; and pick up where you left off. The only tax form offered for quarterly taxes is federal 941. I would like to see State forms available as well. The product is easy to use and the service is quick and excellent knowledge level. I pay my 1099s with a paper check but still need to provide them a 1099 at year's end. Since I run payroll with Patriot I can track those payments and produce a 1099 for free! Nice bonus. Pros After using competitor software, what I like most is that when I do have a question, I get an answer quickly with minimal hold time from someone in the US that I can understand and that is well versed in the software and able to handle the issue in that phone call with no call backs. Cons Now that you have added auto payroll, nothing! I work in lots of different payroll systems for my job and your payroll is superior. She was very helpful and patient with me. Pros I think it is very easy to use. Any questions I had I clicked on "help" and it gave me the link for the everything I was looking for. I also think the price is great, I was using Quickbooks prior and the price was getting ridiculous. Cons The only thing I don't like is when I am doing payroll and if I want to make a wage change for someone, I have to start my payroll all over. The hours I entered in already don't save. Patriot takes care of all of the back office stuff for us. It literally couldn't be any easier. Customer service is easy to reach, they have clearly speaking and kind agents to help you quickly. It is very user friendly when managing employees in the system. We haven't had any issues so far and it is worth every penny! Cons I genuinely can't think of anything to list under cons with Patriot Payroll. We have not had any issues at all. For any questions and issues it has been easy to access customer support, and they have been able to answer all my questions. Cons I don't have any negative experiences with Patriot Payroll. In terms of services that are not included, it would be nice to have timesheet management built into my particular product, but I believe that's an additional fee.
