Pros

My accountant would no longer provide payroll services for my household employee. I needed to find a software that was economical and something that I could do myself...without any experience with accounting. I was very impressed with the customer service representatives who helped me set up Patriot Software and then taught me how to run the forms that my accountant said that I would need. I have been using it for a full year now to create monthly payroll, create payroll tax liabilities reports for the Employment Development Department, and run the W-2. It is so easy. Honestly, the experience has been better than when I was having the accountant do it!

Cons

I dont think many people use it for household employees/nannies. The set up required that I provide a name of my business. I dont have a name. I figured out that I could just name my business "Household" and then I was able to use the software. It would have been nice if there were FAQ to give guidance. I almost did not use Patriot Software because I thought it would not work for my purposes.

Purchasing access to the Patriot Software program was one of my best decisions. In fact, I wish I had started sooner because it would have saved me a lot of time and money. I appreciate knowing when I call for tech support I will be able to speak with a person in a timely manner, and that person will be patient with me. I cannot imagine growing my business without Patriot Software.

Pros

I am both a scientist and an educator, not a business person by training. Patriot Software was recommended to me by my accountant. I primarily use the payroll features for my small business. It is so easy to use for both myself and employees. I appreciate the fact there is an employee portal. All of the features from running payrolls, to creating W2s is so user-friendly. And when I haven't been sure how to accomplish something the phone in teach support has been amazing. Aside from the product being a wonderful time saver for me to use, it also at a price point that is incredibly reasonable.

Cons

This is one of the rare items I have ever used where I have nothing constructive that should be changed. I have been thrilled with all aspects of the Patriot System.

As a user going on 4 years, I can say that they constantly keep you updated with the changing times and have been an awesome product to manage my business more efficiently. It saves me so much time and gives me a great peace of mind knowing everything is done correctly.

Pros

The overall ease of use with this software is unbelievable. Everything is easy to Navigate and just a click away.

Cons

Collecting All the information to open the account can be a chore, but that’s not necessarily their responsibility.

We just wanted to clear up a bit of confusion: There is no additional cost to add features when using our payroll If you have basic payroll, you may want to upgrade to a the full service (which is not a feature,but an additional tax filing service), but all other features are available at the same low rate that you pay monthly. Pros

I absolutely love how responsive Patriot's support is and it's US-based, which is a huge plus because of alternative language barriers or time zone issues. They offer phone, email and/or chat support with low to no wait times. I love how self-explanatory things are - it's easy to 'find' what you're trying to do in most cases, without enlisting the help of Support. Definitely saves me time and money versus using an overpriced and under-delivering PEO, that's for sure.

Cons

Patriot does not yet offer the ability to break employees out by department, which is particularly useful for reporting purposes, when entering info into accounting software such as QBO, etc. While I'm told they're working on this functionality, it's been 9 months since I was told this and am still not hearing updates on progress in rolling this out. But we have since come up with a feasible workaround and realize no single solution will do 100% of what you're needing, in almost any case. So it's not impacting our workflow in an overall negative way, it'd just be nice to have this when it rolls out.

Pros

I was able to scale up my needs without changing platforms or disrutping my currrent processes. When I hired one employee I was comfortable doing my own tax filings and paying taxes myself--Payroll ran the calcuations for me and I did the rest. As I scaled up, it made more sense to let someone else do the filing and tax payments for me so I switched over to full service payroll. It was a seamless transition and has been easy to manage. I still have plenty of control but know that deadlines are met and payments are made. I also really like that I'm not paying for services I don't need or don't care about.

Cons

It is occasionally difficult to figure out how to run reports to get certain information. In time, I've learned my way around but it doesn't always feel intuitive. However, the customer service when I do get stuck has been great! It is usually a longish wait on the phone but they are efficient and very helpful once I do get in touch.

I needed several year-end tax documents, Patriot Payroll gave me them all in moments. I needed to change my plan a few times during the past three years, Patriot did it without a hitch. When I needed to cancel, change or edit payroll or employee direct deposit information, it was just so simple. I can't imagine a more useful software for a small business!

Pros

Doing payroll is a breeze! And the menu layout is top-notch. Everything is so easy to find, and whatever can't be seen at first glance, can be discovered through the online help. About 8 times I called customer service, and in absolutely every case they knew exactly where to send me, how to answer my difficult questions as well as my easier ones, and gave me refunds and credits when I changed my plan accordingly. I love this PatriotSoftware. Their service is top-notch!

Cons

I cannot think of any negatives or things that should be changed. It's great just as it is, for my small business.

Just plain awesome.

Pros

I absolutely love using Patriot Software. Their customer service representatives are fast, knowledgeable, and a joy to work with. I fought with over and over again doing payroll with QuickBooks for years. And every time I had a question or concern I had to pay extra for their customer service and had to stay on hold for hours. Patriot is super simple to use and help is always available if I run into an issue, which is rare because the software is so easy to use. If I happen to make a mistake, all I have to do is contact Patriot and they will fix it right away. As an owner of a fast growing business who needs things to be simple and fast, I only recommend Patriot Software for payroll.

Cons

Honestly not that I can think of. I really like everything about this product.

Pros

The ease of set up and following use. I put in all the information and can run a payroll as often as I like. It is very easy to change the payroll amount or dates if I need to. The main thing it pays the taxes!!! It was the most important thing for me, because I had no clue how to do State taxes. I love it and would recommend it to anyone who has small business and doesn't want to pay through the nose to an accounting company.

Cons

One thing that was a little difficult is the tax reports in the end of the year. I couldn't figure out where I can find all the numbers in one report, they were all by pay dates and paychecks. But I am sure they are somewhere, I just needed to ask.

It has been great , and the value and ease of access are phenomenal.

Pros

First of all, very affordable. Next, it is very easy to run payroll, the dates are already selected. I just put in the number of hours and download the pay stubs. The reports are very easy to use as well and come in extremely handy when paying taxes, especially at the end of the year!

Cons

I was going to say nothing until recently. A new employee started and she is working low hours however the software was not taking out a federal income tax for her. I realize that is a precaution against someone not being liable if they do not make enough, but it is a problem when the company owes monthly federal payments and the system does not accept a $0.00 when the obvious other taxes are being paid. I'm actually going to have to call customer service soon...

Hi Geoffrey. The software will calculate federal withholding based on the IRS tax tables for this year using payrate, pay frequency and status. If the employee owes no federal taxes due to low income on a payroll, the software will report the taxable wages AND the amount of taxes that were collected and deposited. I like it over all, my only one concern for the size of clients I have is the 4 days direct deposit, I don't like neither my clients the other option of add funds to Patriot to have next day direct deposit.

Pros

The software covers most of the frequently payroll needs. The price is according for what you get. Customer service is quick response, helpful and kind. Easy to navigate between companies. Easy to set up, the steps guide you very well to avoid any error. Contains value information of how to get tax account from other states. The blog contains value HR information.

Cons

The 4 days direct deposit. It does not notify that the date to run is coming up. Prefund next day payment.

This has taken my small business to the next level.

Pros

Full disclosure, I was already computer literate. But I made alot of assumptions regarding payroll in general - too time-consuming, too convoluted, too intimidating. I found this software extremely easy to set up and I was up and running in a few hours. The direct deposits took a couple of days to get everything in place because I had to get my employees to complete the process. A couple of them lost their emails but I had no trouble re-sending them. Running payroll every two weeks is easy. It remembers the pay rate and the pay schedule so, most of the time, I just have to put in hours which literally takes two minutes. It also allows me to run special pays and change the schedule when necessary and it integrates with workmen's comp. I would recommend it to anyone.

Cons

I've had a couple of issues: 1. When I wanted to give someone a raise, it took a bit to figure out where to do that. But they have a help function that is actually helpful. 2. I was running payroll on Monday for the following Friday's pay but ran into issues. You need 4 full business days before an actual pay, so: if I run payroll after noon on Monday, it's a problem; If there is a holiday in the week, it's a problem. I started running payroll the Friday before payday and it seems to be going well. So, basically, my pay period ends on Thursday, I run payroll the next day (Friday), and they get paid the following Friday.

Patriot Software is the perfect payroll tool for small business owners just starting out. The software is simple, easy to use and nearly idiot proof. The answers to any question that may come up for me are easily found on the website and thoroughly explained in video and/or text format. Setup is simple & the fees are reasonable.

Aside from the time and money Patriot saves me, it also gives me a great deal of peace of mind knowing my payroll is being handled professionally. Before Patriot, I would agonize over each payroll tax submission for fear I'd screw it up.

Pros

I've been using Patriot's payroll system for several years. What struck me from the very beginning was how straightforward everything was in setting up my company, my employees, health insurance contributions, and direct deposit. My first payroll took only a matter of minutes. Literally! And they do all the tax filings that used to take me hours and later, that my accountant charged thousands of dollars to do each year! If all that's not reason enough to love them, their customer service is outstanding. The agents are well-informed, helpful, and very patient!

Cons

I use a separate program for accounting and another for invoicing. It would be nice to do them all in one place. It appears I'm not alone. They have now added those services but I have not yet made the switch.

Patriot is an excellent company and I have recommended it to many colleagues. As a small mental health nonprofit, it was really important to me that the site be easy to navigate, while allowing our staff to be able to access their own documents. Patriot does all these things very well.

Pros

It has an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. And whenever there is an issue, customer service takes care of the problem quickly, professionally, and kindly.

Cons

I would've said that having too pay extra for 1099 contractors was an issue, but I believe they changed this. Now the only thing I wish is that I could run payroll on either Tuesday or Wednesday, the way I used to with ADP. Not that big of a deal though.

Overall, it is the most user-friendly payroll system we have seen at our organization, and we highly recommend it. This solution is also preferred by our staff, who enjoy the employee portal.

Pros

Excellent customer service! The functions for payroll, HR, and reporting are all very user-friendly. If you need assistance, you can call or chat with customer service in around 5 minutes, and they will take you through any adjustments, provide access to tax documents, sophisticated reporting options, and answer questions about any portion of their program you don't understand.

Cons

They might do a better job of communicating major tax changes or anticipated withdrawals, such as the delayed social security deduction. It was removed from our account once, and I didn't realize it until it was too late.

Pros

Customer support was excellent during implementation. However, you definitely don't want to get subsequent payroll wrong. It can rapidly turn a typically content worker into a former worker. Patriot has made the procedure so easy and straightforward that we genuinely look forward to doing it each week.

Cons

Customer support was excellent during implementation. However, my dealings with customer service in the past have been inconsistent, and occasionally they have responded slowly or incompletely. Patriot Payroll also deducts all paycheck taxes from my corporate bank account the day after each payroll is performed, rather than waiting until they are due to be paid to taxing authorities. However, I do not consider this to be a "negative."

Intuitive, flexible, suits all my needs, takes care of the IRS, W2s, 1099... I love it.. Would cost me four times as much to even think about having a bookkeeper do this for me.. Excellent for small non-profit and for entrepreneurs.

Overall, we are very pleased with Patriot Payroll. We moved from Quickbooks Payroll in 2018 and for the most part, it is great. Every now and then, we have something that comes up that is out of the ordinary, BUT Patriot is always able to work it out for us, other than the coding of taxes to more than one week. The reports are very self explanatory and very useful.

Pros

We like the ease of use of Patriot. We are a very small office, with only 9 employees and our payroll is basically the same every week, with the exception of hours changing, We have 2 salary employees and everyone else is hourly.

Cons

We wish there a way to code a specific payroll for a person that is a large item, like a commission so that the software would tax it for more than one week. The commission may be for more than one week, so it would be great it there was a way to specify to tax it for say 4 weeks. When I used ADP at a previous employer, they had that option and it was great.
