Some of the more advanced HR and tax topics have been challenging because the help on these subjects isn't always helpful for a layperson. Pros Very easy to set up and pay employees. Reports are fairly easy to generate and understand. Cons For those of us who aren't HR and tax experts, some better, more explanatory in plain English help is needed. For instance, I'm still not sure I'm doing the S-Corp owners health insurance reimbursements thing correctly. Also, I thought when I changed the bank from which the payroll was being drawn, that I also changed where the monthly fee was drawn...I was wrong. Pros This was easy and inexpensive for my small business. It was flexible and allows me to provide direct deposit without monthly fees that some other providers impose. I can do my payroll in minutes and everything is taken care of behind the scenes - Taxes, payments and reporting. Cons Integration and setup were very easy. I only had to contact support one time in the past few years and it was nice to talk to a real human who could help me out immediately. Pros This is my second attempt at finding a simple but competent payroll program that I could run myself and more importantly trust the program, Patriot Payroll is perfect for our small business. The other thing that makes me extremely happy is that I don't have to wait on hold to get help for any questions. Customer service has been top notch! Cons I had trouble with the reports for 941's because we are a monthly filer and I can only find a quarterly report offered. Also the sick accrual was confusing because it was a separate thing that had to be added. Lastly, we pay on the 10th of the following month for previous month's work. I could not get patriot to include certain months on my tax reports due to typing in the 10th as my payday. This messed up my reports for a few months and I still have an issue trusting any reports that I ask for. This software has changed our payroll game. It's relatively easy to use and the customer service is amazing when you do need help figuring something out. Cons you can't add or subtract an employee deduction "on the fly" while you are running a payroll. You have to change it in the employee list then go back and run the payroll. What was sometimes hours of work at end of year is now minutes. Each monthly payroll runs smoothly in only a few minutes. Pros Patriot payroll has been a much easier and less expensive product than our last payroll service. We only run payroll on a 1-2 person office. It is easy, quick and understandable to run the payrolls. Payrolls are always correct and I have not had any issues with the software itself. I have had to ask a question or two at the end of year payroll and have always had a very quick response that solved my minor issues. Great product. We will continue to use this service for all of our payroll needs. Cons We were fortunate to not have any problems or concerns with the software. By using the Timekeeping, I've gotten rid of trying to track employees' time by hand which has been a huge relief. Pros The customer service is top-notch. Any time I've had a problem they were easy to reach and the problem was resolved that day. I also love the time card feature. It eliminated keeping track of everyone's time by hand. Cons There isn't anything about them I dislike. They have everything that I need to successfully run payroll. Reason for choosing Patriot Payroll I did trials with a few other payroll companies as well as checked prices and, at the end of my search, I choose Patriot Payroll. We were supposed to be a very small operation with no employees. They made it easy to have just one employee. We since have added a second location and have hired and released several others. I used to work (operations HR and GM) at a major retailers (several of them) and Patriot is EASIER than any of their systems I have used. Pros Patiot Payroll is a easy self administered payroll who will do all the "back end" work of calculating, deducting and ensuring the deductions get to the correct accounts on time. All we need to do is key the employee info, click finish and print checks. Cons Whats not to like when a company makes a task easy? Reason for choosing Patriot Payroll Patriot's overall features for value outweigh just about every other solution out their. Patriot takes care of payroll processes and compliance while I do more important things. Pros I replaced a well-known national company with Patriot Software to save money and not worry about compliance while focusing on my business. What I didn't know is that it would give me the flexibility to meet my needs with various compensation strategies to limit tax liability and that the customer service would be outstanding. The one time I had to call, I received a prompt response by a US based representative. Cons Help features are a little clunky, but what I need is there. Because they are taking responsibility for the taxes they are as strict as possible with what you are able to do. Hours can be split between Regular, Overtime, Sick time, Holiday, Vacation and even COVID Cons I didn’t like the time it took to setup the software but since it is online, I believe they are making sure there isn’t any fraudulent person setting up your account. Cons The software lacks the ability to print a payroll journal that contains the payroll for a specific period with the period and year to date totals that is not on separate sheets for each employee. Pros Onboarding was painless and I was able to run a payroll within a few days. I've used Patriot Full-Service to help me scale my CPA practice. Customer service is always fast and responsive. I especially appreciate the fact I don't play phone tag with multiple departments. Can't say the same for Intuit. Cons The biggest complaint I have is the 4 banking day lead on direct deposits. If Monday is a Holiday and my client doesn't have the info ready, DD is usually pushed to Monday instead of Friday. We've had to write paper checks to compensate for this occurrence. I've recommended them Pros I find the system easy to use and most importantly, Patriot's customer service is amazing. I've never waited on hold for more than 10 minutes and always end up speaking to a friendly and knowledgeable person who can help me through any issues. I've used many payroll systems throughout the years and I find that good customer service can overcome most small feature deficiencies. They also allow more than one administrator, which some small systems do not. That's handy if you have more than one person running payroll. The larger payroll services seem to price their product for small businesses of 10 or more employees.
