They've made it easy for me to do payroll when I've never had to do it myself before. Pros Two thing, first, I've never run payroll before and yet I found it relatively easy to do it using Patriot. Their customer service people were also available and eager to help. Second, they collect all the taxes for me, from local to federal, which was a big draw for me. Cons I'd like to see the software offer auto payroll, which I've read may be coming later this year. I'd also like to be able to dynamically amend/revise payroll runs without voiding the whole thing to make a correction. Pros I like how easy and fast it is to make entries and keep track of sales and expenses. When I got started with it, I needed a system to send recurring invoices, and not all accounting programs could do that. Cons Hard to change things if I make a mistake. Arbitrary limit on length of reference when recording payments. Some customers have non-numeric check numbers or very long check numbers. Patriot freaks out with this and the error message is not really helpful - we just know from experience what is happening. If I make a mistake, support can always walk me through fixing it. Pros Taking out payroll from QuickBooks to Patriot was the ABSOLUTE best thing we could have ever done. The cost was considerably lower, and they don't hassle us with additional fees for every little thing. AND they process our tax deposits! That's the best part of all. The customer support is superior to any other support I've ever used. The techs are kind, patient, and walk you through anything and everything. Running payroll is the easiest thing, takes no time at all. We've been Patriot client for over a year now and have not run into any issues or glitches at all. It's smooth to use and I can run payroll from anywhere. My phone, at home or just at my desk. I will always give it a 5-star review! From setup to on-going use, Patriot is great. So easy, and I like the super clear payroll reports. Nothing is a mystery like other providers. Pros Customer support is stellar! I've tried a number of payroll services, and Patriot is way, way beyond anyone in terms of actually being helpful. Some of my past services, most actually, were billion dollar companies, but for the life of me, I don't know how they got that way! Cons There is \*nothing\* to not like about Patriot. It's super easy to use, the employees are great, and it's a relief just knowing they are available. The website is one of the most logical that I've used. Their help website is also one of the best I've used. I've only had to contact support a small number of times. Pros Patriot gives me the right level of features without relying on a big payroll company administrator. Cons The Time Off Request feature (beta) does not allow a negative balance. The manager role cannot add people. Each employee can only have one direct line manager who can edit their punches and approve their time off. Pros I like Patrios because they deal with all the Payroll stuff for me. I appreciate their support with the click of a button. I had the option to use other companies but so far, 2 years into it, I like Patriots. Cons The automatic emails that didn't make sense but they were quick to resolve it. They sent me automatic emails saying my EIN was wrong OR OTHER ISSUE, not clarifying the issue. I had to reach out to the State and to Patriots and escalate until they figured out what was wrong. Someone is always there to help and they are always taking recommendations for improvement. Pros The ease of use. I like that I can set it for lists and quickly find what I need. I like that it treats me like I'm doing bookkeeping and not a bunch of meaningless icons laid out oddly. Cons I cannot manually transfer transactions outside of the PLAID transfer. I love that my credit union now uses PLAID and I can transfer, but there were missing transactions and then I couldn't transfer manually, I had to do individual journal entries. Overall, it is the easiest software we have ever used and love that it takes care of all of our tax compliance issues so we are protected and make sure our employees taxes are always paid. Pros Patriot Payroll is super easy to use. If offer an array of features that our company can grow into and is exactly what we need right now. The few times I have had to contact support, they were quick and efficient and very friendly. We like that employees can electronically receive their W-2s. Running weekly payroll is quick and easy. Cons We have not run into any problems so far with Patriot Payroll. Their have been no cons to speak of yet and we have been using it for 5 years. November 4, 2025 5.0 Nothing but praise and thankfulness for your payroll service! It has streamlined our payroll process :-). Pros Our small church uses Patriot Payroll and it has been a wonderful experience. It has saved us precious budget monies by being cost effective, plus it is easy for our Finance \[sensitive content hidden\] to learn and use. The employees are thankful for their portal to see their profiles and adjust their withholding or their direct deposit information. It is adaptable for our salaried staff and our hourly preschool teachers. Onboarding is quick and easy with links to send to employees to complete their paperwork and profile. Cons The only thing that is missing is a visual icon or checkbox that says "Payroll is complete", because we have one person input the hours and another person logs in to approve payroll. It was costing us way way too much to have a company run our payroll, when our Finance Director had run payroll internally in the past. The product is easy to use and the service is quick and excellent knowledge level. I pay my 1099s with a paper check but still need to provide them a 1099 at year's end. Since I run payroll with Patriot I can track those payments and produce a 1099 for free! Nice bonus. Pros After using competitor software, what I like most is that when I do have a question, I get an answer quickly with minimal hold time from someone in the US that I can understand and that is well versed in the software and able to handle the issue in that phone call with no call backs. Cons Now that you have added auto payroll, nothing! I work in lots of different payroll systems for my job and your payroll is superior. When I called customer service I held for hours then got someone in a foreign country that had no idea how to fix the product. I have not had to contact customer service very often, but they are very responsive and helpful. I was invited to an HR zoom meeting about employee handbooks, which we did not currently have. I have since signed up for that feature and am in the process of creating our handbook. Pros I like that Patriot takes care of all of the Federal and State filings for me. This saves me a lot of time and worry about getting things filed correctly and on time. It was really nice not having to purchase W-2's at year end. An added benefit is that I am paying less with Patriot than the software I was using and getting so much more. Cons I had to get used to turning payroll in five days ahead instead of the two days that I was used to. I missed one time because of a Holiday, but that was totally my fault. March 6, 2026 5.0 I would suggest Patriot payroll, the ease of use, value and customer support are great. 2025 was the first year I used it so when it came time for the W2's I had a few questions and I contacted customer support (right on the computer) and she walked me through step by step. She was very helpful and patient with me. Pros I think it is very easy to use. Any questions I had I clicked on "help" and it gave me the link for the everything I was looking for. I also think the price is great, I was using Quickbooks prior and the price was getting ridiculous. Cons The only thing I don't like is when I am doing payroll and if I want to make a wage change for someone, I have to start my payroll all over. The hours I entered in already don't save. But support has been wonderful when I call. Pros English speaking US Based support line is the biggest plus for me. They have been able to assist or get me an answer to all my questions when I call. Cons Wish you could send an invite to 1099 vendors to onboard. Still have to do the manual paperwork. Had I have know this I may not have switched to Patriot. Since I have 35 vendors. Wish I could resend invite to "ALL" after the 7 day link expired rather than each one individually. Its also good for employee's to use their side of things, but it also gives them responsibility such as when it comes to their payroll. As of now I have not found any issues or bugs. Cons I can't name a thing that I like least about Patriot Payroll except that a few times there a was a fee that wasn't our company's fault - it was actually an issue between our bank and Patriot.
