It's not the cheapest, but they are very competitive and way easier to use than the other provider I was using. Pros I chose Patriot because I was frustrated with my previous vendor and they looked affordable and seemed reasonable. I have been greatly impressed with them since signing on -- their customer support is top notch: super responsive, the FAQs are very helpful, even their chatbot is worth using. I like the modern easy to use interface, and the fact that even the more niche deductions I need with my S-Corp are covered cleanly by the software. Cons I have no complaints about Patriot. This is my 2nd year using them, and everything just works. No complaints! I was disappointed to have to move on. These limitations may not impact other businesses, and I would gladly return to Patriot Accounting if these issues are addressed. They truly are good people. Pros First, I want to clarify that this is NOT a negative review. After using QuickBooks for over 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Patriot Accounting offered everything my small business needed: exceptional customer service, reasonable pricing, and an attractive, intuitive online platform. Cons The software has two major limitations for a service business. First, it cannot accept deposits or progress payments for a job; payments can only be made against an existing invoice. While this might not be a problem for some, it created significant issues for me. Once a payment is applied to an invoice, the invoice is "locked" and cannot be modified. This restriction becomes problematic when a customer wants to add or remove a service from their project, or if I want to apply a discount for any reason. The workaround suggested by Patriot—using a journal entry to receive payments (to a bank account but not directly to a customer) and later deleting this journal entry to apply the payment to an invoice created at the end of the job—is completely impractical. The payment and the final invoice would often occur in different years and accounts receivable reports would become meaningless. Managing my accounts couldn't be easier from adding clients, monitoring amounts owed to easily including 1099 contract vendors. Pros I couldn't be happier with my Patriot Accounting program. From the very beginning the customer support was exceptional. I was worried about leaving my existing expensive desktop program I had been using for years, but after talking with customer support I found there was no downside. I was able to start with Patriot, set up my accounts and use it for 30 days to see if it was a good fit before I cancelled my existing program. Every component of the program worked perfectly for me from invoicing my clients, receiving payments through their online payment program and duplicating my expenses and revenue accounts. I was concerned about the financial management program which I rely on for making my tax preparation easy. After 30 days I was able to reconcile my account easily and saw that every feature I needed to run my small business was included. Their security features for the , along with the Value for the money was more then I expected. Thank you Patriot Software Team for a great program and customer support. I would recommend your company to anyone looking for a secure accounting program that doesn't break the bank. Cons The response by email with questions did take longer then was stipulated. I found that calling customer service was quicker and being able to be online with the rep helped a lot. I absolutely love Patriot Payroll. It is user friendly; the price is more than competitive, and the startup discount and referral rewards are great. There is a requirement to run payroll four business days ahead of time but there is also an option to prefund payroll to shorten that process time. When I got started with it, I needed a system to send recurring invoices, and not all accounting programs could do that. Cons Hard to change things if I make a mistake. Arbitrary limit on length of reference when recording payments. Some customers have non-numeric check numbers or very long check numbers. Patriot freaks out with this and the error message is not really helpful - we just know from experience what is happening. Someone is always there to help and they are always taking recommendations for improvement. Pros The ease of use. I like that I can set it for lists and quickly find what I need. I like that it treats me like I'm doing bookkeeping and not a bunch of meaningless icons laid out oddly. Cons I cannot manually transfer transactions outside of the PLAID transfer. I love that my credit union now uses PLAID and I can transfer, but there were missing transactions and then I couldn't transfer manually, I had to do individual journal entries. One less thing for me to do. Cons Wish the vacation accrual time worked for me, but there doesn't appear to be a way to set a date that hours stop accruing. The only option is to set an accrual max limit which didn't work because people use their accrued time and therefore accrued time never reached the max. However, they are always available to answer questions and to remind me of processes that maybe I only do once a year. They have done payroll before and perfected that service before adding on HR and other accounting services. Cons Only con is having a prefunded amount, however, I think of it as a savings account I cannot have access to because I do often have to do next day payrolls. Pros We get so much more for our money than we did on our previous payroll service. Patriot does more for less! I appreciate not having to worry about any of the reports to the IRS. Patriot handles it all. This has been a gift! Customer service has been excellent also. Cons I sincerely can't think of any "cons", I only have positive to say. I wish we had known about it sooner. No complaints. Pros We've been pleased with Patriot Payroll and have used their services for many years. It's easy-to-use, customer/client support is outstanding, and we seldom (if ever) have had bugs in all the years we've been with them. I have recommended Patriot to my business friends and feel they have earned the 5 starts I have them. Cons I can't name a thing that I like least about Patriot Payroll except that a few times there a was a fee that wasn't our company's fault - it was actually an issue between our bank and Patriot.
