It's not the cheapest, but they are very competitive and way easier to use than the other provider I was using. Pros I chose Patriot because I was frustrated with my previous vendor and they looked affordable and seemed reasonable. I have been greatly impressed with them since signing on -- their customer support is top notch: super responsive, the FAQs are very helpful, even their chatbot is worth using. I like the modern easy to use interface, and the fact that even the more niche deductions I need with my S-Corp are covered cleanly by the software. Cons I have no complaints about Patriot. I was disappointed to have to move on. These limitations may not impact other businesses, and I would gladly return to Patriot Accounting if these issues are addressed. They truly are good people. Pros First, I want to clarify that this is NOT a negative review. After using QuickBooks for over 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Patriot Accounting offered everything my small business needed: exceptional customer service, reasonable pricing, and an attractive, intuitive online platform. Cons The software has two major limitations for a service business. First, it cannot accept deposits or progress payments for a job; payments can only be made against an existing invoice. While this might not be a problem for some, it created significant issues for me. Once a payment is applied to an invoice, the invoice is "locked" and cannot be modified. This restriction becomes problematic when a customer wants to add or remove a service from their project, or if I want to apply a discount for any reason. The workaround suggested by Patriot—using a journal entry to receive payments (to a bank account but not directly to a customer) and later deleting this journal entry to apply the payment to an invoice created at the end of the job—is completely impractical. The payment and the final invoice would often occur in different years and accounts receivable reports would become meaningless. Arbitrary limit on length of reference when recording payments. Some customers have non-numeric check numbers or very long check numbers. One less thing for me to do. Cons Wish the vacation accrual time worked for me, but there doesn't appear to be a way to set a date that hours stop accruing. She was very helpful and patient with me. Pros I think it is very easy to use. Any questions I had I clicked on "help" and it gave me the link for the everything I was looking for. I also think the price is great, I was using Quickbooks prior and the price was getting ridiculous. Cons The only thing I don't like is when I am doing payroll and if I want to make a wage change for someone, I have to start my payroll all over. The hours I entered in already don't save. I have only had to utilize the customer service once and they were easy to reach and helped resolve my issue quickly. Pros Patriot payroll is so easy to use. It takes about 3 minutes to run payroll. Patriot takes care of all of the back office stuff for us. It literally couldn't be any easier. Customer service is easy to reach, they have clearly speaking and kind agents to help you quickly. It is very user friendly when managing employees in the system. We haven't had any issues so far and it is worth every penny! Cons I genuinely can't think of anything to list under cons with Patriot Payroll. We have not had any issues at all. The only time I've had to call customer service was because I just needed to confirm tax information and they answered and helped quickly. No negative feedback to give. Switched from [QuickBooks Desktop](https://www.capterra.com/p/212058/QuickBooks-Desktop-Pro/) They were not properly reporting and paying our taxes even though their service was supposed to include it. (I know multiple people who had the same issue and caused major IRS issues) Once we switched we found that also patriot was WAY easier to use and did everything for us. Review Source LF Laura F. If you need simple payroll for a few employees, or a robust platform for many employees and 1099 contractors, we feel confident using Patriot. And we can't stress enough how much their customer service outshines everything and everyone. Pros Simple and user-friendly, but still always implementing new features to make life easier and improve on their already great foundation. The number one best thing about Patriot though, is their customer service. We may run into issues with the software, but being able to chat or call someone (and get a real person), has always compensated for any software shortcomings. Cons I do wish they would go back to including a broken up version of the quarterly tax filing reports, in addition to one big packet for each quarter. Clients will often request just a 941 report, and we have to send a full packet or take the time to extract that one report from the packet. It was nice when you had options. No complaints. Pros We've been pleased with Patriot Payroll and have used their services for many years. It's easy-to-use, customer/client support is outstanding, and we seldom (if ever) have had bugs in all the years we've been with them. I have recommended Patriot to my business friends and feel they have earned the 5 starts I have them. Cons I can't name a thing that I like least about Patriot Payroll except that a few times there a was a fee that wasn't our company's fault - it was actually an issue between our bank and Patriot.
