They've made it easy for me to do payroll when I've never had to do it myself before. Pros Two thing, first, I've never run payroll before and yet I found it relatively easy to do it using Patriot. Their customer service people were also available and eager to help. Second, they collect all the taxes for me, from local to federal, which was a big draw for me. Cons I'd like to see the software offer auto payroll, which I've read may be coming later this year. I'd also like to be able to dynamically amend/revise payroll runs without voiding the whole thing to make a correction. I will recommend them to anyone in the future. I enjoy their software is easy to use and intuitive. Pros One of my favorite things about Patriot Payroll is their customer support. I have used multiple payroll companies and contacting customer support is always a headache and I'm talking to someone outside of our country. I love that when I call into Patriot Customer Support that I am not on hold for hours and I am talking to someone who actually knows the software. Every time I've had to call support the representative was kind and knowledgeable and was able to resolve my question on the first call. Cons I have found only one con with Patriot, which is their payroll processing time. I wish it didn't take 5 business days to process payroll. I do miss having a 24 hour processing time. I was disappointed to have to move on. These limitations may not impact other businesses, and I would gladly return to Patriot Accounting if these issues are addressed. They truly are good people. Pros First, I want to clarify that this is NOT a negative review. After using QuickBooks for over 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Patriot Accounting offered everything my small business needed: exceptional customer service, reasonable pricing, and an attractive, intuitive online platform. Cons The software has two major limitations for a service business. First, it cannot accept deposits or progress payments for a job; payments can only be made against an existing invoice. While this might not be a problem for some, it created significant issues for me. Once a payment is applied to an invoice, the invoice is "locked" and cannot be modified. This restriction becomes problematic when a customer wants to add or remove a service from their project, or if I want to apply a discount for any reason. The workaround suggested by Patriot—using a journal entry to receive payments (to a bank account but not directly to a customer) and later deleting this journal entry to apply the payment to an invoice created at the end of the job—is completely impractical. The payment and the final invoice would often occur in different years and accounts receivable reports would become meaningless. Managing my accounts couldn't be easier from adding clients, monitoring amounts owed to easily including 1099 contract vendors. Pros I couldn't be happier with my Patriot Accounting program. From the very beginning the customer support was exceptional. I was worried about leaving my existing expensive desktop program I had been using for years, but after talking with customer support I found there was no downside. I was able to start with Patriot, set up my accounts and use it for 30 days to see if it was a good fit before I cancelled my existing program. Every component of the program worked perfectly for me from invoicing my clients, receiving payments through their online payment program and duplicating my expenses and revenue accounts. I was concerned about the financial management program which I rely on for making my tax preparation easy. After 30 days I was able to reconcile my account easily and saw that every feature I needed to run my small business was included. Their security features for the Patriot Software, along with the Value for the money was more then I expected. Thank you Patriot Software Team for a great program and customer support. I would recommend your company to anyone looking for a secure accounting program that doesn't break the bank. Cons The response by email with questions did take longer then was stipulated. I found that calling customer service was quicker and being able to be online with the rep helped a lot. I have never had an issue since I started. Cons Honestly it's my own fault but I don't have it integrated in to our quickbooks so I have to manually enter the checks but again I'm a small business and it takes less than 5 minutes to do it. Pros Hands down the best part of this software is the customer support. Having moved from Quickbooks where you can never talk to anyone about anything, the customer support is next level with almost immediate chat response times and the ability to resolve most questions right away. Cons The downside is that it is much more limited in some functions. It is limited in your ability to track different jobs or workers comp codes easily. This software is certainly built for ease of use and affordability, but it does lack in a few features that would benefit customers who are in industries that require more tracking of where and what employees are doing. Our employees do complain about the app sometimes, but not enough for us to go back to Quickbooks. The staff was knowledgeable and quick to answer my questions. I would love to have kept using the Accounting but there were a few features that I could not build a work around in order to use the software. It was a perfect fit for us, and we immediately implemented it in 2017, and haven't changed or even considered changing since then, even through our renewed growth. Pros The value of the program and ease of processing payroll for our small company. It provides very detailed reports, and is very easy to navigate the system. Cons Haven't found anything yet! Every report, every aspect, every output product, even through updates to the software, has been easy to implement and utilize in our ancillary programs. The value as compared to other payroll packages and/or services is very substantial. I run payroll for about 20% of what other services would cost. This is a no-brainer if you want to be efficient and effective. Cons The 1099 reporting mechanism isn't as smooth as the W-2 reporting. The program needs to be able to print pro-forma 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC without having to use a Preprinted Form. The product is easy to use and the service is quick and excellent knowledge level. I pay my 1099s with a paper check but still need to provide them a 1099 at year's end. Since I run payroll with Patriot I can track those payments and produce a 1099 for free! Nice bonus. Pros After using competitor software, what I like most is that when I do have a question, I get an answer quickly with minimal hold time from someone in the US that I can understand and that is well versed in the software and able to handle the issue in that phone call with no call backs. Cons Now that you have added auto payroll, nothing! I work in lots of different payroll systems for my job and your payroll is superior. The only time I've had to call customer service was because I just needed to confirm tax information and they answered and helped quickly. No negative feedback to give. March 6, 2026 5.0 I would suggest Patriot payroll, the ease of use, value and customer support are great. 2025 was the first year I used it so when it came time for the W2's I had a few questions and I contacted customer support (right on the computer) and she walked me through step by step. She was very helpful and patient with me. Pros I think it is very easy to use. Any questions I had I clicked on "help" and it gave me the link for the everything I was looking for. I also think the price is great, I was using Quickbooks prior and the price was getting ridiculous. Cons The only thing I don't like is when I am doing payroll and if I want to make a wage change for someone, I have to start my payroll all over. The hours I entered in already don't save. If my practice grows, I will probably get their bookkeeping software as well, but right now I'm small enough that I don't need it yet. Pros The ease of use is the best thing about Patriot Payroll. I was able to set it up without much problem. I have a background in accounting, so I'm not sure how easy it would be if you knew nothing about payroll, but someone who has kept books should be able to do it no problem. Also, their customer support was amazing. I couldn't remember if I'd selected something for the taxes and I wrote their support and the responded within a few hours. The value is great too - the penalties are steep for messing up payroll and so full service payroll is less than the cost of a steak dinner every month. Right now I'm the only employee, but I feel confident that if I bring on staff, that I will not have any trouble setting up compliant payroll for an employee. Forget these huge corporate conglomerates that don't care about you, go with these guys! Cons Nothing at all. Prior to setting up, I called customer service as a test. I got a human on the phone quickly. They were knowledgeable and answered my questions. During the setup, we had additional questions. The person who answered the phone answered the questions without transferring the call. The pricing is very reasonable. The program is easy to use, customer service is excellent, and the pricing is reasonable. You can ask for anything more. Cons We have been using Patriot Payroll since January 1, 2026. If you need simple payroll for a few employees, or a robust platform for many employees and 1099 contractors, we feel confident using Patriot. And we can't stress enough how much their customer service outshines everything and everyone. Pros Simple and user-friendly, but still always implementing new features to make life easier and improve on their already great foundation. The number one best thing about Patriot though, is their customer service. We may run into issues with the software, but being able to chat or call someone (and get a real person), has always compensated for any software shortcomings. Cons I do wish they would go back to including a broken up version of the quarterly tax filing reports, in addition to one big packet for each quarter. Clients will often request just a 941 report, and we have to send a full packet or take the time to extract that one report from the packet. It was nice when you had options. Review Source EB Eric B. We recommend it often. It is one of the few services we have that we haven't changed or considered changing during the lifespan of our business. Pros Patriot Payroll has a learning curve but it's not difficult and there are plenty of helpful FAQ and instructions, as well as customer service available by chat or phone. I like how, now that we've been using it, it's easy to do our bi-weekly payroll. Overall, though, what I like most about Patriot Payroll is the customer service. We'd had few issues, or questions, but each time we've been helped promptly by someone who genuinely seems to care about helping. That's not common these days. Cons It's a bit rigid and not entirely intuitive until you get the hang of it. More video tutorials or even a "Patriot Payroll 101" online orientation class may be useful.
