In fact, I wish I had started sooner because it would have saved me a lot of time and money. I appreciate knowing when I call for tech support I will be able to speak with a person in a timely manner, and that person will be patient with me. I cannot imagine growing my business without Patriot Software. Pros I am both a scientist and an educator, not a business person by training. was recommended to me by my accountant. I primarily use the payroll features for my small business. It is so easy to use for both myself and employees. I appreciate the fact there is an employee portal. All of the features from running payrolls, to creating W2s is so user-friendly. And when I haven't been sure how to accomplish something the phone in teach support has been amazing. Aside from the product being a wonderful time saver for me to use, it also at a price point that is incredibly reasonable. Cons This is one of the rare items I have ever used where I have nothing constructive that should be changed. I have been thrilled with all aspects of the Patriot System. They offer phone, email and/or chat support with low to no wait times. I love how self-explanatory things are - it's easy to 'find' what you're trying to do in most cases, without enlisting the help of Support. Definitely saves me time and money versus using an overpriced and under-delivering PEO, that's for sure. Cons Patriot does not yet offer the ability to break employees out by department, which is particularly useful for reporting purposes, when entering info into accounting software such as QBO, etc. While I'm told they're working on this functionality, it's been 9 months since I was told this and am still not hearing updates on progress in rolling this out. But we have since come up with a feasible workaround and realize no single solution will do 100% of what you're needing, in almost any case. So it's not impacting our workflow in an overall negative way, it'd just be nice to have this when it rolls out. May 8, 2020 5.0 Pros I was able to scale up my needs without changing platforms or disrutping my currrent processes. When I hired one employee I was comfortable doing my own tax filings and paying taxes myself--Payroll ran the calcuations for me and I did the rest. As I scaled up, it made more sense to let someone else do the filing and tax payments for me so I switched over to full service payroll. It was a seamless transition and has been easy to manage. I still have plenty of control but know that deadlines are met and payments are made. I also really like that I'm not paying for services I don't need or don't care about. Cons It is occasionally difficult to figure out how to run reports to get certain information. In time, I've learned my way around but it doesn't always feel intuitive. However, the customer service when I do get stuck has been great! It is usually a longish wait on the phone but they are efficient and very helpful once I do get in touch. October 18, 2022 5.0 I wanted an easy to use, non-accountant invoicing software that worked, was stable and didn't drain my wallet. Bonus is it allows me to make invoices quickly. The few support emails I've sent were answered quickly and by someone who obviously read the question and knew the software. Pros Easy to use. Can have multiple tax rates. Haven't lost a invoice yet. Fair price. Attachments with the invoice is great, some customers demand photos of the job now. Cons I would love a little more customization of the invoice. Picking a future day and time for mailing invoices, like tomorrow at 8 a.m. not at 11 p.m. when I created it. Would like to be able to set a date range for the invoice section, I like to work a week at a time and having to set it every time I go to view invoices is a little annoying (I can live with it but you asked). March 1, 2023 5.0 I needed several year-end tax documents, Patriot Payroll gave me them all in moments. I needed to change my plan a few times during the past three years, Patriot did it without a hitch. When I needed to cancel, change or edit payroll or employee direct deposit information, it was just so simple. I can't imagine a more useful software for a small business! Pros Doing payroll is a breeze! And the menu layout is top-notch. Everything is so easy to find, and whatever can't be seen at first glance, can be discovered through the online help. About 8 times I called customer service, and in absolutely every case they knew exactly where to send me, how to answer my difficult questions as well as my easier ones, and gave me refunds and credits when I changed my plan accordingly. I love this PatriotSoftware. Their service is top-notch! Cons I cannot think of any negatives or things that should be changed. It's great just as it is, for my small business. If it weren't for their customer service, I'd have gone elsewhere but I think they are listening to feedback and making improvements. Pros I like the companies ethos and their support is great. Cons It is not easy to work with all the time. It took a long time to categorize all my expenses for the last few years and the way that the P&Ls are displayed are not easy to read. Their customer service representatives are fast, knowledgeable, and a joy to work with. I fought with over and over again doing payroll with QuickBooks for years. And every time I had a question or concern I had to pay extra for their customer service and had to stay on hold for hours. Patriot is super simple to use and help is always available if I run into an issue, which is rare because the software is so easy to use. If I happen to make a mistake, all I have to do is contact Patriot and they will fix it right away. As an owner of a fast growing business who needs things to be simple and fast, I only recommend Patriot Software for payroll. Cons Honestly not that I can think of. I put in all the information and can run a payroll as often as I like. It is very easy to change the payroll amount or dates if I need to. The main thing it pays the taxes!!! It was the most important thing for me, because I had no clue how to do State taxes. I love it and would recommend it to anyone who has small business and doesn't want to pay through the nose to an accounting company. Cons One thing that was a little difficult is the tax reports in the end of the year. I couldn't figure out where I can find all the numbers in one report, they were all by pay dates and paychecks. Pros First of all, very affordable. Next, it is very easy to run payroll, the dates are already selected. I just put in the number of hours and download the pay stubs. The reports are very easy to use as well and come in extremely handy when paying taxes, especially at the end of the year! Cons I was going to say nothing until recently. A new employee started and she is working low hours however the software was not taking out a federal income tax for her. I realize that is a precaution against someone not being liable if they do not make enough, but it is a problem when the company owes monthly federal payments and the system does not accept a $0.00 when the obvious other taxes are being paid. I'm actually going to have to call customer service soon... The software will calculate federal withholding based on the IRS tax tables for this year using payrate, pay frequency and status. If the employee owes no federal taxes due to low income on a payroll, the software will report the taxable wages AND the amount of taxes that were collected and deposited. Pros The software covers most of the frequently payroll needs. The price is according for what you get. Customer service is quick response, helpful and kind. Easy to navigate between companies. Easy to set up, the steps guide you very well to avoid any error. Contains value information of how to get tax account from other states. The blog contains value HR information. Cons The 4 days direct deposit. It does not notify that the date to run is coming up. Prefund next day payment. We have been very happy with Patriot and intend to be with them a long time. Pros I own two companies and after moving one to Patriot Payroll, it was an easy decision to move the other. Cons My biggest gripe would be the lack of support for 3rd party payment processors that are 2A friendly. There's only a few out there and the partnership that provides isn't one of them. Pros Full disclosure, I was already computer literate. But I made alot of assumptions regarding payroll in general - too time-consuming, too convoluted, too intimidating. I found this software extremely easy to set up and I was up and running in a few hours. The direct deposits took a couple of days to get everything in place because I had to get my employees to complete the process. A couple of them lost their emails but I had no trouble re-sending them. Running payroll every two weeks is easy. It remembers the pay rate and the pay schedule so, most of the time, I just have to put in hours which literally takes two minutes. It also allows me to run special pays and change the schedule when necessary and it integrates with workmen's comp. I would recommend it to anyone. Cons I've had a couple of issues: 1. When I wanted to give someone a raise, it took a bit to figure out where to do that. But they have a help function that is actually helpful. 2. I was running payroll on Monday for the following Friday's pay but ran into issues. You need 4 full business days before an actual pay, so: if I run payroll after noon on Monday, it's a problem; If there is a holiday in the week, it's a problem. I started running payroll the Friday before payday and it seems to be going well. So, basically, my pay period ends on Thursday, I run payroll the next day (Friday), and they get paid the following Friday. Review Source TO Tim O. Before Patriot, I would agonize over each payroll tax submission for fear I'd screw it up. Pros I've been using Patriot's payroll system for several years. What struck me from the very beginning was how straightforward everything was in setting up my company, my employees, health insurance contributions, and direct deposit. My first payroll took only a matter of minutes. Literally! And they do all the tax filings that used to take me hours and later, that my accountant charged thousands of dollars to do each year! If all that's not reason enough to love them, their customer service is outstanding. The agents are well-informed, helpful, and very patient! Cons I use a separate program for accounting and another for invoicing. It would be nice to do them all in one place. It appears I'm not alone. They have now added those services but I have not yet made the switch.
