As a small mental health nonprofit, it was really important to me that the site be easy to navigate, while allowing our staff to be able to access their own documents. Patriot does all these things very well. Pros It has an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. And whenever there is an issue, customer service takes care of the problem quickly, professionally, and kindly. Cons I would've said that having too pay extra for 1099 contractors was an issue, but I believe they changed this. Now the only thing I wish is that I could run payroll on either Tuesday or Wednesday, the way I used to with ADP. Not that big of a deal though. This solution is also preferred by our staff, who enjoy the employee portal. Pros Excellent customer service! The functions for payroll, HR, and reporting are all very user-friendly. If you need assistance, you can call or chat with customer service in around 5 minutes, and they will take you through any adjustments, provide access to tax documents, sophisticated reporting options, and answer questions about any portion of their program you don't understand. Cons They might do a better job of communicating major tax changes or anticipated withdrawals, such as the delayed social security deduction. It was removed from our account once, and I didn't realize it until it was too late. However, you definitely don't want to get subsequent payroll wrong. It can rapidly turn a typically content worker into a former worker. Patriot has made the procedure so easy and straightforward that we genuinely look forward to doing it each week. Cons Customer support was excellent during implementation. However, my dealings with customer service in the past have been inconsistent, and occasionally they have responded slowly or incompletely. Patriot Payroll also deducts all paycheck taxes from my corporate bank account the day after each payroll is performed, rather than waiting until they are due to be paid to taxing authorities. A lot of features at the basic plan but the good ones at the Premium one. Pros Customer support is fast and helpful, always there for you. Software is easy to use and the interface is very intuitive. We moved from Quickbooks Payroll in 2018 and for the most part, it is great. Every now and then, we have something that comes up that is out of the ordinary, BUT Patriot is always able to work it out for us, other than the coding of taxes to more than one week. The reports are very self explanatory and very useful. Pros We like the ease of use of Patriot. We are a very small office, with only 9 employees and our payroll is basically the same every week, with the exception of hours changing, We have 2 salary employees and everyone else is hourly. Cons We wish there a way to code a specific payroll for a person that is a large item, like a commission so that the software would tax it for more than one week. The commission may be for more than one week, so it would be great it there was a way to specify to tax it for say 4 weeks. When I used ADP at a previous employer, they had that option and it was great. Cons I have received complaints about the employee log in. We prefer not to have to choose how many taxi cabs, mountains, or motorcycles while trying to clock in. When I run a report for a customer it would be nice to be able to save that or export. I would love to customize and save the customization of emails mailed within Patriot invoicing. I have run payroll using my phone browser, tablet browser, as well as my comuter. Also, being able download my pay stubs instead of printing has saved additional funds. For what is offered at the price offered...no one else could compare. Cons I had started a small marketing company after selling my property management company. I had always used Quickbooks with my prior company and was totally happy with it. After 6 months with my new company, the cost for Quickbooks Online kept increasing. I turned to as a possible alternative. Unfortunately, it did not work out. I'm not an accounting person, but I never had a problem with Quickbooks. With Patriot Software, the setup was extremely confusing and difficult. I called support and set up a phone call with an advisor. I was hoping that I could schedule a session or two with a support person to help me set up. Patriot however does not work that way. While they would have someone work with me to setup my company with the software, it would cost $800. I'm sorry Patriot, but that is way to much money for a small business just starting out. I asked if there were videos that could assist me. They said yes, but they are very very limited in number and topic. Additionally, there is very little written information to give direction and to answer questions. Neither does Patriot have a process within their software that takes you step by step in setting various items up. At the end of the day, while the pricing was excellent and exactly what I was looking for, if you can't use the product it is of no value. Review Source SD Scott D. When we needed a payroll solution, I did an online search and several names came up that specialize in payroll services for businesses of our size. After conducting some thorough research, Patriot Software came out on top based on services offered for the price, based on the size of our company. The only thing we had to lose (or gain) was a bad experience and since there was no contractual commitment, we went with Patriot and haven't looked back since. We're very pleased with getting all the things that matter to us: great customer service and a reliable and easy to use product at an affordable price. Pros The ease of use, the cost and the great customer service. Cons I honestly haven't encountered a real cons to note here. They give us everything we expect from them and pay for and we haven't encountered any hitches yet. Knock on wood. Reason for choosing Patriot Software As I mentioned earlier, after researching all three options that I came upon during my research, had the best combination of price and services for a company our size. Since no contractual commitment was required to give them a try, we did, and they delivered on everything we needed and their customer service is what kept us coming back. I have been able to leave town and still see to my clients needs. Pros I like the convenience of having my payroll in the cloud and accessible from anywhere. I was looking for a cloud based option when I heard about Patriot. I have a bookkeeping service and process payroll for 6 clients and have recommended it to 2 other clients who process the payroll on their own. I am able to process payroll when out of town or where ever I might be. I was able to move a client over when they added the Vendor payment option. Cons I wish there were more report options. There are considerable features that help with payroll and tax management that make it fairly easy for you to manage payroll. Cons Some setup is required in which you are required to navigate to your appropriate state to establish payroll and unemployment tax accounts. The state I was trying to set up required me to call the state office with a long hold time to get instructions on how to properly complete it.
