The timesheets are a little clunky and there are gapping features missing. Despite the downsides, it makes filing taxes easy and provides a space for employees to submit their hours. Pros I loved that Patriot does all the tax management, including sending the fees straight to the governmental institutions. It certainly has made hiring employees feel less daunting. I also appreciate the self-services portal for my employees which allows me to be less involved. The help topics are mostly helpful as well. Cons My biggest complaint about the software is the lack of support in non-timesheet payroll. As a mental health practice, my employees don't clock in/out and they are paid different rates for direct contact and administrative work. When I initially invested in Patriot in April 2020, I was told that this feature was available. After purchasing, I was informed that that feature is about to come out but isn't available now. It is still not available and my employees have to complete the "other" tab; then I have to move numbers between the columns so that they are paid out at the right rate. This is frustrating and makes the process timely and less dependable. Reason for choosing Patriot Software \-Price felt more fair than other providers -The tax filing process is incredibly helpful -I was told I could have different pay structures and customize the timesheet (this was untrue and remains unresolved). I am satisfied and would recommend to anyone with a small business trying to get off the ground and needed some help getting established. Your service and soft ware are exceptional. Pros First of all the staff accessibility and assistance was one of the biggest draws to this service. The patience and personal touch of the staff were appealing and necessary after previous experience with larger payroll services that under performed and motivated me to find a better more helpful service. Overall, the software is useful and easy enough to figure out for a person that is not good with computer related tasks. I have all the information I need and am able to print necessary reports and make changes to payroll with little frustration. Cons The only thing I find frustrating is the lack of options for setting up a monthly payroll option that changes every month. I have my own business (on the side) and work for a company full time where I get my regular pay and benefits. My monthly income from the business is variable each month and making the changes to the monthly pay I want only gives me options for hourly or salary choices. What I pay myself for tax purposes would be considered "salary", but I find it hard to make changes each month whether I pay myself 8,000.00 or 5,000.00 and I don't trust the amount of withholding that comes out. This becomes guesswork to figure "extra" amounts to withhold to ballpark the amounts. Maybe this is an IRS problem and not yours, but I don't have confidence that correct amounts are deducted....especially when I have to change the pay frequently. Plus with them filing taxes for payroll, and quarterlies, that is a huge burden off of me, so I can be productive in other areas. Pros The software program was easy to set up for my business. I had shopped around for a service and chose Patriot because it was easy to use, the customer service was great, they had the answer to my questions, and it is easy for me to go online and set up payroll. They also pay and file my quarterly taxes with the state and IRS. I can easily pull up reports or get pay stubs and W2 online. Costwise they are about the same as other services, but when I dealt with another service, they didn't know the answers to my questions, never returned phone calls and I couldn't understand them because of the heavy accent. Cons When I was trying to file exempt status for a certain tax, I had difficulty finding it on the website. However, when I called the representative walked me through it and it was very easy. Although the SUTA taxes were remitted by Patriot , none of the quarterly returns were filed for the last 5 quarters. After sorting out an issue with the state exemption status, a request was made several times for Patriot to file the late returns. It's been 26 days and still no returns filed. You are not able to speak with the "tax team" or receive any communications from the tax department. All emails, chats and phone calls go thru a general support team. The latest email I received stated the filing of the forms are a "first come, first serve basis". Is Patriot not able to keep up with timely filings for all customers? The support ticket has been opened for over 26 days. I'm wondering if Patriot uses an outside service for tax filing? I now pay under $40/month for full service payroll with Patriot, and their software is a joy to use. Running a quick payroll, and handling bonuses, benefits, and deductions is so straight forward. The setup and support team is easy to access, quick to answer, and in the US! Cons Just because I like to have all of the information, as a feature suggestion, it would be nice to have a tax portal to see my balances and standing all of the state/federal tax accounts. Pros I like how easy Patriot is to use. The software has a clean, easy to navigate home page. It has been great and helping me manage employees and make changes to my employee’s pay rate and benefits. Patriot has been great in helping manage Covid-19 pay. Cons How long the response time from customer service was when I received a letter from the state Department of Revenue. It took multiple calls, extended estimates of how long it would be before someone was able to look at our account, and multiple letters from the state. Pros The product is easy to use and support is available online or by phone. I’ve used this product for multiple companies. It is by far the best value for your money for small business that don’t want to worry about payroll standards and submitting reports. Cons Biggest con is the time keeping function. You can’t give access to a manager to approve time for payroll without giving access to the whole payroll function. Most managers don’t run payroll and should not have access to employees data. There is no easy way to get around this. I have to take a screen shot of the time clocks, email it to the managers and then wait for them to confirm the hours and then I have to make the adjustments and then process payroll. I appreciate that their customer service is always helpful and the wait times to speak with someone or do an online chat are very short. The set up is simple and employees appreciate have the portal to gain access to report their hours and access pay stubs and W2s. Compared with other payroll providers Patriot Payroll is reasonably priced and makes it affordable to use full service taking the burden of payroll tax reporting off of staff. This is the only payroll software I recommend. Cons I honestly have no complaints about this software. The few things that I disliked or felt were missing a few years ago when I first started using this product have all been addressed and improved. It was a bit scary at first, but it was the best decision for our office. Our payroll does not fluctuate much each pay period and Patriot makes it very easy!! The online help Chat feature and phone customer service is great as well!! They have been able to answer all of my questions quickly and easily.
