Patriot's handling of tax filings is something I enjoy. They have also provided the auto FFCRA paid leave and paid FLMA leave. Cons If you start a payroll, you can't go back and edit employee information without cancelling the payroll and starting over. Also, if you have some employees on direct deposit and others on paper checks, you have to set the pay date based on the constraints of direct deposit. You can't submit the direct deposit for Friday payment, and allow paper check employees to pick-up their checks as soon as they are printed. The checks will be post-dated. The few times I have needed support it has been amazing. Cons there is nothing I don't like about the payroll and timekeeping software Reason for choosing Patriot Software I contacted quite a few services however for the size of my company the prices on them all seemed prohibitive. Pros The best thing, to start with, when choosing to move several clients to Patriot was the affordability. I could add services or not add services to the existing payroll package. Cons The turn around time for direct deposit is lengthy and is the reason why I haven't moved the remaining clients over. Would be nice to have the option to pay a bit more for a quicker turn around on the direct deposit. The pre-paid option is just not something any of my clients like. The support you receive is better than most accounting software. Pros First of all, I like the price. I was using a different software that was more expensive. I feel Patriotic is equal in functionality and at a much better price. Customer support is great. When I was acclimating to the software, I was calling often for support. I received patience & guidance through getting an understanding of Patriot. Cons My struggles with the software was my double deposit and payments when recording for profit and loss. Patriot was attached to the business account. It was difficult for me to know what I needed to record and what was automatically recorded. Also, Patriot recorded their taxes, social security etc. that was taken out for the company & employee. I didn’t understand this part of the process. I was recording the bank tax withdrawal and also Patriots. The bank would do one lump sum in their records & Patriot, gave details on how much was taken out for each tax category. The amounts were not the same so I was recording the same transactions for both Patriot and my bank. Therefore, when I would do my monthly bank reconciliation, there were lots of errors. This was when I called for customer support. They did a great job showing me how to record it correctly and editing so it would show my balanced bank reconciliation. Review Source JD John D. Pros Patriot Software is very easy to use from the novice to the experienced. Awesome customer service. Cons I downgraded my service for a short period of time and I just wish it would have been made more obvious to me what services would be terminated. Ended up getting behind on payroll taxes. If I have questions, the answers are relatively easy to find. If I can't find the answer, access to a live chat is super helpful. Cons The "MANAGING TIME OFF" feature is not my favorite. It is somewhat confusing and not very user friendly until you employ some trial and error. I did get one time that it’s just how it is. I’m like ok but can you pass it on as an idea. I’m sure there are reasons but wish support was open later for us in the western part. Pros I have been a QB user for 12 years. There are things I am having to get use to with Patriot but so far good. The person we talked to originally had us thinking, we should stay with QB but we looked into the demo and played with it on the accounting side. So far,I have only dealt with the payroll set up. It has over all been pretty easy and I like a couple of the features are included and cheaper then QB is online. Customer service has been really good about answering questions. As far as accounting, we will see how it goes. Cons The person we talked to originally had us pretty convinced to stay with QB. Play with the demo before making your decision. Over all payroll hasn’t been to bad. Accounting is more where we will see how it goes With QB you can be more detailed with your chart of accounts, atleast in desktop, for infinity but with patriot it is 8 rows. You can transfer some things from QB but most of it will have to be redone from the beginning of your physical year. Pros I can do payroll on my schedule from anywhere . Its easy to use after the initial set up everything is right there all you have to do is put the information in hours worked for each employee and that's it simple. I like the peace of mind knowing that all my payroll taxes are being withheld on my behalf and paid on time so i don't have t o about remembering when to send paperwork in or making a mistake. And lastly it save me money and that is an important factor the money I save is significant amount not just a drop in the bucket who wouldn't want to save money . I do not have to hire anyone to manage payroll, with the ease of the software, I am able to do this myself weekly investing minimal time now in payroll tasks. Cons Better reports. I would like the ability to configure reports to how I run my business. I called a handful of times during set up requesting help figuring something out..and it was always a great experience. We started with 1 employee and now have several, and payroll is a quick and painless task. I recommend PatriotSoftware to friends who run businesses, whom aren't tech savvy...encouraging them, they can do it too! Pros This software has the functionality of different pay rates for different jobs...1 employee might do several different jobs within a pay period, and as a non profit we need to keep track of where hours and money gets classified. This makes it so easy! I like that we see all our employees and all the pay rates within the same table. That way you can add the hours into each column, and see your estimates of what payroll will be, before you actually run it. The flawless integration of Direct Deposit to employees and Payroll Taxes being withdrawn is amazing. I don't have to think about it any further. Cons I ran into a couple problems with running adequate reporting for quickbooks entry. My Quickbooks Guru we work with, found a workaround within the reporting available to us..it worked out fine, just needed to do an extra step of calculations. I wish during the final step of payroll, it would give me a simple listed breakdown and total sum of : 1. payroll being deposited 2. employee taxes 3. employer taxes Total Review Source MW Maureen W. January 7, 2021 4.0 I use Quickbooks for my accounting but when I discovered that QBO could not send tax payments directly to the state of Iowa I quickly went looking for another option. Patriot made it quick and easy. I wish there were a few more options. Pros I like that the system is easy and straight forward. The price is right and it works for my situation here in Iowa. Cons There is basically no customer service available so when I have a problem I end up calling a friend with more experience. Additionally, if I schedule payrolls for months in advance to save time if there is ever a change due to insurance, termination, or bonuses it charges to modify. The software is what it is and nothing more. It would be really nice if it integrated with my retirement accounts as well. I am constantly recommending Patriot and explaining how easy it is to use. I enter everything in one time and then they handle everything else. The time I save by not having to worry about tax deadlines and due dates has helped me to be able to focus on the needs of my business and not lose valuable work time. Pros Patriot is extremely easy to use and notifies me of any upcoming payroll date changes that may be needed due to holidays. Cons The only thing that I can think of at this time would be to be able to switch Direct Deposit off and on from the payroll screen. This would make it easier when a payroll is affected by a holiday and a written check must be done for employees.
