October 6, 2020 5.0 My overall experience as a small business owner has been excellent. One of the BEST decisions we have made during the startup of our business! Pros This software has been invaluable to our small dog walking and pet sitting business. Since we launched the company a little over a year ago, we have grown to now have four part-time employees. I run payroll twice a month. The user interface is highly configurable for how employees are paid and simple to use. Direct deposits are made within five business days into employee checking accounts. Also, one of the best features I don't know what I would do without is that the software automatically computes and pays federal and state income taxes for each paycheck AND files my quarterly and yearly federal and state tax records. Finally, it also provides easy access to exportable and downloadable reports. Cons One feature not presently offered is for the employer to access the employee portal area to see what the employee sees when they access the software. For example, I would like to see the paycheck category breakdowns I have entered for each payroll period to confirm that the employee sees how much they are being paid for dog walks, pet visits, dog boarding, staff meetings, etc. Review Source LC Lori C. January 6, 2021 5.0 It has been very positive, employees love using the portal, payroll can be run in under 10 minutes!! Pros I like how easy it is to use and that it is cloud based! Cons The integration with QBO is not as smooth as I would like it to be. It have clients that like to keep track of different individuals salaries separately and that can be difficult to smoothly move over, so I usually end up doing a memorized journal entry in QBO Reason for choosing Patriot Software It was cloud based, it had an employee portal, and the cost was way less for my clients using the Partner program as I have many Nonprofit clients. They have an outstanding product with knowledgeable professionals, and are very good at keeping me informed about changes or updates. I don't know how I would manage without them. Thank you! Pros was introduced to me when I hired my first employee in 2018. Not knowing anything about how to handle payroll, the patient people at customer service walked me through all the steps needed for setup. Thereafter, as laws change and requirements to do business need to be updated, I am so impressed at the prompt and consistent communication to keep me well informed. Cons The only drawback to me is when I pay an emloyee for their expenses. The category for net pay is clear on the pay stub, but the expenses are added to the net pay as non-taxable income. Since there is no separate allocation for "expense reimbursement" on the pay stub, it was a little confusing to me at first. But that seems like a small thing. Review Source MG MIROSLAVA G. Program is also helpful to send Social Security reports and other wage reports to the appropriate government agencies. Pros Easy to use Good documentation to get started Ability to configure and run reports Cons Will like the draft 941 report to include payment sum for the quarter. Now I need to run a report to get the taxes paid for the quarter and then I type the amount in on the Patriot 941 tax draft form. I plug in the hours for an employee and it literally does the rest - direct deposit, check stub, reports, W-2's, filing. All of it! I believe in the start up process I needed to make one call to support-the rest was easy. I am not a very computer savvy person, but Patriot was a breeze. Cons The part I liked least about the software was I waited before I switched from Quickbooks payroll. Communication and reminders are great helps. Cons Timing of availability of using direct deposit was very inconvenient; a four-day lapse with holidays and weekends is not realistic. Even having to wait through an initial four payroll cycles made our introduction of using a new payroll provider challenging. Having gotten through that now it’s been smooth sailing. They take care of all payroll filings, and they have great customer service. Pros I love how easy it was to set up Patriot for our small business. I needed help with some things and I got prompt and excellent customer service -- even during COVID-19 madness! We are only using the payroll feature, but may explore the other accounting services soon. Cons We didn't set up the Quick-Books connection, so I have to manually enter the paychecks into QB each week. The instructions on how to do that with journal entry was informative and made that process easy, too. It’s an investment you won’t regret. Pros Want an affordable yet reliable payroll software? Then make the switch to Patriot Payroll. My company made the switch 2 years ago and I must say it was the best decision we could have made. This software is incredibly easy to use, comes equipped with all the necessary features(access to direct deposit,loans, benefits, IRS tax forms, and much more) needed to meet your payroll needs, not to mention it has an exceptional customer service team ready to answer any questions you may have. I used a different payroll program originally but they raised their prices and combined thier payroll with other features that I did not need. Patriot gave me just what I needed and I could pick what bells and whistles that I wanted for a small extra charge. Pros Patriot was EASY to use and running payroll for my part-time help only took a few minutes a week. Filing my quarterly 941 with the IRS was just a click and print and ready to mail. Printing out the end-of-year paperwork was a breeze. Very easy to change the number of employees when my one of my part-time workers went away to college. I like Patriot because I have the option to file my own taxes but Patriot has the capability of making my tax payments if I wanted to pay a little extra. I can imagine either some more flexible reporting or additional reports, but I find reporting adequate as it is. Pros The ease of setting up and getting started with payroll. Cons I feel that one very important part of payroll is doing year end W-2's. This is not possible with the basic payroll and with only 2 employees, I don't feel that's is cost effective to pay more per month for payroll just to be able to do W-2's at year end. This makes the coverage incomplete because the reason I went to a computerized payroll is to be able to file reports and W-2's that have been calculated based on payroll numbers submitted.
