The software stores all the appropriate info, makes the needed calculations and I simply use it as a tool. Very satisfied with the ease of use! Pros It's a do-it-yourself concept, but the software does all the work! I can process payroll in less than 30 minutes, so it's making efficient use of my time. Updates to employee files is easy and immediate. I can pull reports anytime I want, and if I have questions, Customer Service is available via chat, email or phone...I've never had to wait! Cons Would prefer a few more checks and balances at setup regarding the tax portion. I'm not tax knowledgeable and made a crucial mistake. However, I was unable to file paper copies of these forms for tax year 2022 and Patriot Payroll was invaluable to me because they offered inexpensive and easy to use electronic filing. During the 5+ years that my small business has been a customer, Patriot Payroll has provided my company with the peace of mind of knowing that once a payroll is submitted, our employees will receive their paychecks via direct deposits on time. Now, I also know that I can depend on Patriot Payroll to accurately and quickly electronically file important year end tax forms. Cons In the 5+ years that my small business has been a customer, only once did I have a problem with Patriot's software. Payroll isn't necessarily a straightforward subject, and when I have a question, I have always been able to speak to someone from support within minutes. They're kind and knowledgeable. Their client communication is impressive, and in my experience their portal and service have always worked seamlessly. Cons There's a bit of a learning curve while getting used to the software, but it's minimal and probably impossible to avoid given the subject matter. All documents in one place (great when applying for PPP and other grants). Pros Switched from offline to online payroll manager. Never looking back due to savings and ease. I just enter employee hours and everything else is done for me. With offline accountants, I still had to send in employee hours and hope they were working that day. Saves hundreds a month, saves time and reduced headache. I appreciate the PPP forgiveness report, quickly summed up my covered PPP period in 1 page. Cons I initially hired offline accountants in hopes of acquiring valuable advice. However, they either didn't know or gave me simple answers. That convinced me I didn't have much to lose switching online. Does Patriot offer legal and tax advice for their clients? Honestly I haven't had time to dive into all of its features but from my weekly uses haven't found a section with advice. I heard that ADP offers a lot more advice, but also charge a lot more. Pros The ease of use and payment of payroll taxes are the most helpful to my small business. I have used other payroll software for another company that I am involved with. This is a much better fit for my small number of employees. Cons There is nothing I don't like about it, though it might be nice if it sent reminders when payroll is close to being due. Owner Maritime Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Easy to use from the start" January 7, 2021 5.0 Pros I had been employing only a part time helper from time to time over the years, and had a local bookkeeper taking care of the payroll tasks when I needed it. About 5 years ago I employed a full time helper and decided to try Patriot Software, as it appeared to be a less expensive option. I believe it turned out to be the case, and when I soon added a second employee, the additional cost for this was very reasonable. I like Patriot because it's quick and simple to navigate through. I'm a full service customer, so a lot of the tax filings are handled for me, and I'm kept informed about them when they are. Cons Because I'm so focused on making things and taking care of customers and problems along the way, that I can sit for a few minutes every two weeks and enter my helpers hours and Patriot sends money to their banks is like magic. At this time I have nothing to complain about. I suspect that if I had more employees and a more complicated payroll in some way, I could encounter more issues. Pros Patriot Payroll has many great benefits including direct deposit, not only for employees but also for contract workers. The Cost of the software is not even a comparison to the rest of the companies out there. Patriot Payroll is extremely affordable, no hidden cost, excellent customer service, and will even track your 1099 workers pay for the IRS and so much more... I would recommend Patriot to every business owner I know Cons The only con to this software is not being able to split direct deposits for contractors. However, I was told they are working on that feature. February 21, 2022 5.0 By using Patriot Payroll I am relieved of figuring out the taxes to withdraw and pay on a payroll basis. Pros After the initial set up of entering all the employee information it is very easy to select the employee and pay them on a regular basis. Cons This software seems to be very cumbersome in converting the data to quickbooks software. I do the work around in entering the information myself because we have a certain way all the information needs to be entered. I particularly like that it generates my payroll tax liabilities, like Form 941 and W2s for example, with the information submitted from the monthly payroll logs. Prior to using this software, I spent hours working on payroll tax liabilities. Now, it is as simple as logging in the date range for the tax information you need and in seconds, the tax reporting forms are available. That simple!!! So glad I didn't waste time with other payroll software prior to finding Patriot. Not sure if any other vendor can stack up to Patriot's ease of functionality. Pros I love that this payroll will prepare my Form 941, W2 and all payroll tax liabilities. I love that I only have to type in the employee's hours and the software does all the calculations for deductions and taxes. Cons There is nothing I do not like about this software. Their chat representatives are knowledgeable and able to answer anything I throw at them. Pros Patriot manages my time cards so when team members come in, they log in to the app and clock in and then when they leave, they clock out. I love that they manage the direct deposit for me. My team members W-2's, pay stubs are all electronic. The best thing for me is I don't have to worry about the figuring out how much to pay all the tax entities, and knowing they are not going to be late. Cons Not sure there is anything I don't like about the software. It really has been a game changer. They walked me through all questions I had when setting the company payroll up. As different situations came up, it was easy to call and have a real person talk you through the problem. Pros Integrates with Quickbooks online. Handles 941 and state withholding for me so it greatly simplifies payroll. Cons I have some union benefits that are based on hours worked that cannot be automatically calculated because staff earn different rates of pay based on commercial or residential jobs. Patriot is unwilling to accommodate this need so I have to calculate the amounts and change a fixed amount each week. Reason for choosing Patriot Software Price, integration, and customer service. Patriot is able to do everything that QuickBooks can, but for a much more reasonable price. Patriot also does a lot of things automatically that you would have to manually enter for QuickBooks. Also, LOVE Patriot's customer service! <3 Cons I was emailing Patriot support about this - but we would really appreciate the ability to send invoices to customers and charge their credit card (instead of having the customer fill it out). We pay some employees hourly wages, others get salary pay, and some receive reimbursement and mileage pay. No matter what we throw at it, Patriot keeps all our details straight and makes filing incredibly simple. This is a great service! Pros I love the user friendly design of Patriot Software. Even a first-timer can figure it out in minutes! Employees get their own log-in to access paystubs, etc, and all I had to do was enter their email address. Cons I do wish the payroll reports divided tax withholding into more obvious categories. That would simplify my life when paying quarterly taxes. However, at least each line item is clearly labeled, so with the aid of a small cheatsheet I am easily able to total the categories myself. Reason for choosing Patriot Software We chose Patriot over the competition because it was affordable, we didn't feel locked into a contract, and we liked the online interface.
