Owner Printing Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Great payroll processing value" May 8, 2020 5.0 I've been using Patriot Payroll for 2-3 years, and I have recommended it to others. In addition to owning a company with a couple of employees, I have a CPA practice. I recommend it to clients who need a payroll service and aren't necessarily that familiar with payroll processing laws. It has great features, including direct deposit, and it allows them to get a payroll service up and running with a minimum of time and complication. Pros It's very intuitive and easy to use. I'm a CPA and have used a variety of software packages, including Paychex, ADP, and Quickbooks. Patriot provides the necessary functions, with less administration. Cons It doesn't seem to generate state payroll tax reporting. At least the version I use. Reason for choosing Patriot Software It has a better design. As long as you have all of your Federal and State details, there is no reason you can't be setup and ready to go in hours. Also, as a sole employee, I was able to setup 401k deductions/match and QSEHRA reimbursements fairly easily and have them reported accurately on my W-2. Paying contractors, and especially filing 1099 at end of year was almost hands-off. Cons Can't think of anything that wasn't straightforward. Cannot undo payroll (that need to be undone because of the deduction issue). Have to manually delete pay stubs one-by-one. Deleted pay still shows on YTD calculations. Pros The price is justifiable considering the product received. It's inexpensive and apparently works with Quickbooks Cons The functionality is severely lacking and the customer service associates lack depth of knowledge to provide a suitable resolution for issues. I wanted to clear a few things up: 1. You can set up a one time deduction in the software. You would simply make the deduction for the amount you want and add a lifetime limit of that amount. 2. You are able to void more than one payroll at a time and even have a handy link for you in the side navigation: Payroll tasks>Void payrolls. There you will find a list of payrolls eligible to void. Select as many as you desire at one time. 3.Deleted pay stubs do not still show on year to date totals.(This has been tested and confirmed.) Pros We were a start-up so i needed to input everything. it was very cumbersome task. Would have been nice if there was a feature for assistance but other than that great product. Pros This product is easy to use, user friendly and very reasonably priced compared to other payroll options. Cons I have been happy with all of the functions of this product. I have a very small company and this self-service payroll is very affordable. It is also very simple and user friendly Cons The sick time could definitely be improved. I have to manually add the hours accrued each month. It seems like this should be a feature that automatically calculates on the paycheck. Also, it doesn't show the hours accrued on the payroll stub or report. The other thing that was a little frustrating: I tried to go into reports and print my last W-3 but it was unavailable. The only this I could print was a W-3 report. This was insufficient for the company requesting my tax documents. Other than those 2 issues it does everything I need it to do. Cons Trying to reconcile bank statements with payroll when there was tax changes for Covid-19 relief was tricky and had to be manually entered. Not so much a Patriot Software issue- more a government complication. Pros Once the payroll is setup the basic payroll is easy to use. I have a bi-weekly payroll and can get the information entered, reviewed, and checks printed in 20 minutes. Setup of new employees is straight forward and easy after getting used to the program. Payroll registers, monthly and quarterly payroll reports are easy to print and gives exactly the information that is needed. I also purchased the 4-part W-2 form from their vendor and the end result looked professional. Cons The initial setup of the product was not easy. I set my employees up in departments and this took two calls to customer support to get right. I purchased the basic payroll service and had issues with the printing of W-2 copies for my local tax department. I had to manipulate the printing to get the forms I needed. Patriot provided the best value for the number of users that our organization required. If does not include fund raising and tracking of gifts, which are not a requirement for our organization. Pros Easy to setup. When I had accounting questions the customer support was friendly and answered my questions. Cons Timing of credit card payments marked as paid in Patriot but funds not received for several days from Stripe. It is also easy to add employees. Cons It was hard at first to find certain information, but once I got used to the program, it became very easy. Bookkeeper E-Learning Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Best payroll software" January 7, 2021 5.0 Pros It's one of the few payroll processing companies that allows the client to use the software to calculate, track and pay their own taxes without the funds being pulled along with payroll...especially useful for a non profit that at times can have a tight cash flow. Cons Direct Deposit could be improved to being able to submit the information for direct deposit within a few days of the actual pay date rather than having a 5 day lead time for submitting information. CPA Accounting Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "CPA who likes this solution" July 27, 2021 5.0 I'm a small CPA firm and I knew that I don't have the staff to have someone ready ALL the time to run payroll so I started looking for a solution for clients. This company came to my hands and after I looked through it and setup my first client I was hocked. The price option for clients also was a great sell. What client doesn't want to save money? Pros The first thing that you notice is the price, a great deal. Then you start wading in to see what exactly do you get for it and it turns out to be a lot. You have a tremendous amount of customizable options. The people are great and will take the time to explain anything that needs it. Highly recommend. Cons The setup progression is understandable but I would prefer an option that gives you an overview of everything and lets you set it up as the data comes to your hand in place of as the system prompts you. In theory it does have some option like this but it's more a prompt based system and in the run it is only a minor thing.
