Pros Setting up payroll with Patriot Software was one of the easiest parts of setting up my new solo practice. The process of setting it up was easy, intuitive, and without any confusion, and once I had it set up I never had to think about it again. I go in every month and run payroll and that is it! Cons There is nothing I don't like about the software. Reason for choosing Patriot Software Had all of the features I needed, and was very easy to use. It is very user friendly, great support via chat, email and phone; and awesome rates! Cons They do not have ability to accrue vacation time and what not so that would be good to see in the future. I had never done payroll or accounting before. This software is beginner user friendly and reasonably priced. I tried Quickbooks at the beginning, and it was difficult for me to learn, when I had nobody to help me navigate through it. I would highly recommend this to new Business owners. Pros The Accounting and payroll software are easy to use for a beginning Business owner. I was able to navigate through most of it myself, and if I had a question, their help desk was very friendly. Cons I wish there was a way to issue a customer a refund rather than having to do a journal entry. I use it only once/month so I like that I can jump on, get the job done, and get off. Pros We only have one employee, but Patriot makes it easy to manage payroll at a reasonable price. As a small company owner, I have enough to worry about without adding the details of payroll and the various payments and filings and the state and federal level. With Patriot, I don't worry about a thing! Cons I wish it integrated with Xero accounting software. I've had to pull reports for our accountant and it was really easy. When COVID impacted with new rules and regulations, they had helpful information available to guide me through the process. I am also able to customize categories of pay that I use and drop all other rest. Cons Our accountant has noted a discrepancy in what our tax liabilities are from what is the actual number, so we have to reconcile that each time. There may be a good reason and it's never off by very much, so not a big deal. I had problems downloading the pay stubs for weeks. It could have been a glitch in my internet browser because I could print it from a different browser. Otherwise, simple not frills program. Review Source MH Marianne H. It has made this part of our operation incredibly cost efficient, and the system is easy to use for non-specialists. I would definitely recommend this for small nonprofits. Pros It was incredibly easy to get started with this online software. We are a very small organization, so we each have to wear many hats. This system is easy to use even for someone with a non-business background. Cons It’s hard to find a few of the reports. They are there, they just are not always in the most intuitive places. It is very easy to use and has excellent videos to show you how to use the reports and other functions. The few times I have needed help, their representatives have been very friendly and helpful. During the Covid pandemic they included a very helpful feature that you can attach for the PPP loan and forgiveness. I am very thankful for this company! (Do it at the end of a quarter is helpful). I emailed and did online chat a couple times and that was all the help I needed. It is just about what I need, only 6 employee business. It is less expense than Intuit, WAY better if you have a question. Pros Good support, I found my last payroll support (Intuit) to be nearly impossible to navigate. I got quick replies both by email and chat. I've not needed to call. Cons Not as many reports as before. They handle the tax deposits differently from Intuit but I just need to get used to it. I love the features, the reporting and customer service has been fantastic! Pros This payroll software allows me to see all my clients at a click of a mouse, no logging out and back in to see the next client! Reports are easier accessible and the actual processing of payroll seems quicker and easier. Cons The only disadvantage was the banking cycles. Have to process 4 days before the paydate causes a slight problem when my clients pay their employees hourly. So every holiday we have to write manual checks to fall into the pay date window. Reason for choosing Patriot Software All the above were for the larger clients, Patriot allows me to offer my small clients the same features that some of these bigger companies offered. It saves us a lot of time and headaches! Pros My wife and I tried handling payroll for our nanny on our own for the first 6 months or so. It was a disaster. We weren't thrilled about having to pay for this service, but in hindsight, it was absolutely the right call. Patriot's interface is really easy to use. We like that all we have to do is indicate the number of hours our nanny has worked for the pay period and the rest is taken care of for us. My biggest fear, was Patriot would make the cost prohibitive with the advertising. I found the Cost to remain reasonable. Additional features and benefits were added as time progressed. I have no problems and if I get a question from the state or IRS, they are easily handled through the software or a person at Patriot. Pros The ease of use. These folks make your tax payment automatically and you don't have to worry about that payment or the tax filings. They all get made. You just have to make sure you have money in your account. This is the main reason I briefly switched payroll software. Reason for choosing Patriot Software The only benefit of Quickbooks that I saw was the next day payroll without the need for a pre-fund. I like everything else about Patriot. In the end, the ease of the next day payroll was not enough to make me to want to stay with Quickbooks. Pros The ease of importing transactions (when the bank connection works) Cons I use Chase bank and every week the software looses its bank connection. I have to delete it and re establish the connection. I have three different businesses and I have to do it with all 3 every time I use the software. Also, the software should keep track of the last check used and automatically populate the check number field when writing checks.
