Pros: We had a site license for the Cirtix Desktop and had purchased maintenance and upgrade protection sogoing to the XenDesktop solution was easy. We implemented a server based access to each of the new programs and all 20 users had the same experience of ease of access. The MS office programs integrated smoothly as well. The local resource demand was minimal so we were able to keep a local mirrored data file that only strengthened our data protection efforts.

Cons: The communication software for the enterprise is Apache. We invoked LDAP thinking it would uniformly connect. We were wrong, We tried several workarounds even going so far as to use the POP3 boxes from the MS Outlook readers. The final connections were a hodgepodge of Apache nataive e-mail containers, LDAP addresses and MS POP3 boxes on some of the PCs. Citrix support was able to isolate the problem with the main Apache program. We did identify a training need and in year three it was all working the way intended. Fortunately no one out of the department was aware of our very inelegant solution.

Pros: It is a very intuitive tool, since it fulfills the standard of virtualization, which is to allow an application to be executed from a device that is not installed. It allows controlling the applications and virtual machines installed in the datacenter. It allows controlling the applications and virtual machines installed in the datacenter.

Virtualization is done by sessions. the virtualization of sessions through XenApp allows any user of any operating system to access any application delivered by IT

Cons: It requires a high infrastructure cost to start large projects, you must acquire servers that support the load to which they will be exposed.
You must have a clear idea from the beginning of the administration of technological resources that are going to be spent at the moment.
There is not enough documentation in forums to solve problems.

Overall: better response time to platform failures and applications.

In my opinion the best virtualized software available.

Pros: We just deployed the latest version. We can now offer employee's a virtualized experience that matches that of a desktop PC. Installation was straight forward with the help of our consulting partner. employee's said this was the easiest migration they have ever been a part of.

Cons: Latest version requires more servers but not a problem if your servers are Virtualized. We had one issue with Internet explorer skyrocketing the processor but once we made the change for Adobe to open PDF's and not IE this solved the issue.

Pros: We recently upgraded our old presentation server to xenapp 7.9. Updated apps, support, and security we're the primary reasons.

Cons: It's still citrix and we occasionally run into issues with receivers and printing. Hoping to move to azure and eliminate citrix in future

Pros: Having all applications needed to get the work done each day, is a great idea. It keeps everything organized.

Cons: The not so good thing about Citrix, is that when logging in is not correlating with the information you set up. Sometimes it will cause an issue when you need to log in and information has been reset, without you resetting it manually. It is an automatic thing that is done.

Overall: It is a great housing for all applications and you can access them easily.

Pros: It's great for IT since it allows them to reduce their TCO through virtualization. Sensitive data can be kept off of a physical machine and safeguarded in the cloud.

Cons: The biggest drawback is the inability to use dual monitors. This needs to change immediately for XenDesktop to be more appealing to users. The performance is dependent on the internet connection and can lag at times.

Overall: It provided more of a benefit to IT than offered to me as an end user.

I used XenDesktop for work while traveling and/or working from home.

Pros: You can access your virtual desktop from basically anywhere. For security purposes, XenDesktop is definitely a good choice. You can have your employees use a virtual desktop instead of storing any company information on a physical device and that's great if you are worried about any sensitive information. It's user friendly in that the desktop looks just like a regular windows desktop. Someone who doesn't know what a virtual desktop is would not be able to tell the difference.

Cons: It's really slow. It takes a very long time to boot up and the screen lags when you're scrolling which is frustrating. If you don't have a strong internet connection - forget it. You also can't use the virtual desktop on more than one monitor at the same time. This caused a few issues at my last job, we were all supposed to use the virtual desktop every day but everyone used 3 monitors so it didn't make sense to be essentially logged in to two separate computers at the same time so almost everyone just didn't use the virtual desktop.

Pros: I love the features that Citrix Xen desktop has to offer, application and desktop delivery. I am excited to get into app layering and delivery as well.

Cons: Customer support is pretty intermittent in terms of getting someone who knows what they are talking about. Sometimes the way they want you to set things up is counter-intuitive and isn't as straightforward as you would hope. like setting up a desktop to deliver vs an application.

Pros: -It's perfect for business and educations environments, when hardware requirements change every day you can add more memory or space with a few clicks.
-Access anywhere anytime, Citrix Receiver app works on almost every mobile device (tablets, cellphones, etc)
-Companies with remote employees can protect his data using VDI environments. Lawyer's buffet uses this product against government threats to illegally obtain clients data.
-Logs and Reports help IT departments to track issues fast and efficient.
-IT departments support for different hypervisors environments, such as XenServer, Hyper-V, and VMware ESXi.

Cons: -Not available for MAC OS, because of apple restrictions.
-Salesperson sometimes forgets hardware, software and services requirements. Need an experienced partner to develop VDI projects and then deploy it.
-Security products itΒ΄s a must-have, sometimes users forget that the cloud it is also vulnerable.

Overall: -Reduce TCO for IT department.
-App virtualization helps my company to track weekly or monthly sales results and cash flow.

Pros: It performs amazingly even with poor and unstable connections. We use both RDP and Citrix and the later performs way better. The ICA protocol used by Citrix is much better and secure.
Port redirection work so much better now than in previous versions and works with almost any usb device. RDP port redirection is more basic (mouse, keyboard, usb storage and certain com ports).

Cons: It is harder to setup than Terminal Server.
Printers are harder to setup and are often slower than in RDP.

Overall: We got very nice and stable remote desktop cloud environment for all of our users. VDI is the future :)

Pros: Allows complete virtualization which lets our company/remote users use dummy workstations with all our data stored in a remote and secure location. Faster compared to its predecessor (XenApp) which opens up apps instead of a complete virtual desktop. The speed is also noticeably quicker on XenDesktop (At least 3x faster) compared to XenApp.

Cons: Citrix Director could be updated as there are still some features I find redundant/confusing. When remoting into a user's PC, it does not allow us that functionality on the sessions tab, you must type their name on the search bar to access that functionality, which is weird. Also some worries about the memory on these servers as Citrix is still known to have memory clocking issues, which means we would need to restart the server occasionally to run functionally.

Overall: Obviously ease of use with everyone being manageable on one platform. Security

Pros: I like using Citrix because I can access all of the software and data from work on any computer, laptop or mobile device. Almost any software can be configured to work with Citrix.

Cons: The software is sometimes buggy and I often run into problems using it. For example, all of the Citrix screens will disappear after a while, even if I am still logged in to the connection. Also, there are sometimes issues when working with two monitors. And the final con is that it is slower than using installed software and the speed seems to vary with depending on other unknown factors.

Comments: Citrix XenDesktop provides a central location to create and mange all of your Virtual Desktops and Applications. We've used Citrix XenApp for many years and this is now part of the XenDesktop product which we now also use to create Virtual desktops to provide VDI sessions to our clients.

Citrix have always been at the top of the list in my opinion when it comes to this market and from what I've seen so far with XenDesktop they are still there and it is a great product.

If you have used previous versions you'll probably want to do a little more up-skilling as there are quite a few differences in the new architecture, but it doesn't take long to get up and running.

Comments: Citrix has always been a company on top of their game, revolutionizing the way we use remote desktops every day. Making it easy to login anywhere with computer access, I can view my remote desktop from anywhere and get work done. I would highly suggest this company to anyone!

Pros: Stability and Reliability

Cons: None

Overall: Our QuickBooks is hosted by HarborCloud, who uses XenDesktop as platform to provide it to us. It is always very reliable and we haven't had any problems with it.
