Business Process Analyst Utilities Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Its decent but requires a lot of work and can be limited" January 12, 2018 3.0 Pros There is little training required for end users, and it allows storing documents and collaborating on them very easy. SharePoint also allows the sharing of data incredibly easy. Very versatile and adaptable. Cons Depending on the security requirements of your company, some users can have very little ability to properly use SharePoint. It can also be frustrating sometimes when users do not know how to properly use the site, it can negatively affect other users. Microsoft has a habit of making major changes with updates and it can be disruptive. This feature helps people working remotely to collaborate effectively. Cons The only drawback is you need internet connectivity if you want your changes to save. Cons However, from a document-sharing perspective, it's been a bit frustrating dealing with larger teams. Someone's always checking out a document without checking it back in, and then you can't edit the document when you want it (where's the benefit of a soft-copy here?). Sometimes we've also lost data - we've edited documents within Sharepoint (without checking out), and it hasn't been properly saved. That's happened more than once. We ended up changing to Google drive for documents that weren't confidential, and a small dropbox for confidential data. It was just less frustrating. Review Source MM Marco M. Cons I would like to point out that there are many features one can not use if he/she is working through a browser mode of PowerPoint or word. For full access of the platform you need to open it in the main application of PowerPoint or word. Pros It's a nice way to share documents across people. Anyone who has access can see all of the documents. Cons I seem to always have issues with saving my documents and usually have to do it at least 2x when I edit within the sharepoint program. Also if someone checks out a doc and leaves it, it can never be accessed for editing or deleting, which is frustrating. We have people who no longer work at the office with docs checked out. They can be organized via Project, Department, Sharing needs etc. Pros What is good about SP is that there are so many ways to leverage the product. Lots of connectivity and co-authoring is a very big plus. Cons For as many ways to interconnect SP to other MS and non-MS products, it just feels clunky at times and requires a certain amount of experiential knowledge to avoid and address nuances of the software. Pros Sharepoint gives administrators a wide set of access control configuration options to help users access the information they need easily, and keep information that is confidential to those that should have access. Cons It's not the easiest software to bring content management users up to speed on and will usually require a content structure design upfront. " May 22, 2022 5.0 Pros SharePoint is like if OneDrive was designed from the ground up to be used across a team. Some of the more annoying aspects of OneDrive don't occur on Sharepoint and some of the features I wish OneDrive had are instead more usable on SharePoint. Cons It's not as easy as OneDrive to understand the various options and intricacies of SharePoint (for instance, did you know SharePoint can essentially be used as an intranet provider?). Since everything is in the cloud, I can more easily access it and I don't need to rely on an old internal server where we used to stock all our information. Cons I would love for the tool to have an extensive introductory tutorial (if there is one, sorry) because I am sure I'm under-utilizing the tool and there might be some subtle things I am missing. This has proven extremely helpful and useful when large files are involved that may not be permitted to be sent through email due to size limitations. Pros Sharepoint provides an interactive portal for various users to add topics, pricing, and media for sharing. Easy to use and provides a magnitude of different options. Cons Simple settings are somewhat difficult to set-up. For example email notices when users add or edit an item, seems like need to get customer support involved more than necessary.
