“Advanced, Comprehensive, and Highly-Customizable EHR/Practice Management Platform with Excellent Service and Support”

OverallOver the past 15 years I have been responsible for implementing or converting several practices' EMR/practice management systems and I can tell you that, by far, my experience with Compulink ranks them at the top level. Since migrating to Compulink Advantage four years ago, we have seen improvements in clinical capabilities, quality of patient care, and effectiveness in all areas of our practice. What's more, Compulink has been an excellent business partner. They listen to their customers to understand what improvements or changes we need. The software improves in reliability and new features with successive software updates. I have not had that experience with all medical software vendors in the past.
ProsFeature-Rich: It's hard for any software to be everything to everyone, but Compulink has proven to have what we need to run our practice. Highly Customizable: The software comes with common-use templates that allow you to be up and running quickly, but the real power of the software is in how easily customized it is to fit how your practice works; not the other way around. Many integrations with third-party software are available as well. World-Class Support: Dedicated and knowledgeable staff are there to guide you every step of the way when you get started. Their technical and customer support are very helpful and responsive to keep things running properly as well.
ConsSoftware Customizations: The ability to customize is one of the best features of Compulink, but that also requires that you have a well thought-out plan for how you will use your system. Update bugs: Like most software packages, you might experience some issues with the "latest and greatest" versions. Fortunately when this has happened to us, Compulink has been there to remedy the issues promptly and keep our practice running pretty smooth.
Recommendations to other buyersInclude all of your "stakeholders" in planning and discussions while you assess EMR vendors. No software can overcome poor planning or a lack of understanding of your goals and priorities for implementing an EMR or practice management software. The devil is in the details, as they say. If you decide to go with Compulink, make sure you avail yourself to all the experience and advice they can offer you to help avoid bad days in the future.

“Operations Manager/Billing Manager”

ProsThis Eyecare Advantage product is geared toward the optical industry and the customization makes our pricing more accurate. The vendor offers excellent support six days a week and also has specific departments based on your particular question or issue. You are not always directed to a general support person for questions. They also have different level of tiered support based on your question or issue. That is very nice! Compulink also offers a wide variety of online courses for training.
ConsBecause of the complex nature of the functions behind this software which makes it for easier and automated functions for the user, Compulink uses SQL for many functions. While it works so very well, it makes me dependent on support to create a customized function.
Recommendations to other buyers1) Create a team to evaluate the software. One member from your optical staff, doctor professional staff, billing staff, lab staff and IT staff. There are several components of Compulink that all work together and in the evaluation process you need all departments represented. 2) Have a clear idea of what the practice's key goals are and evaluate Compulink's built in options as well as their a la carte options to ensure they can enhance (and in most cases surpass) your key goals. 3) When evaluating the EHR component, consider your goals to achieve meaningful use and inquire about the support offered by Compulink to achieve it. Meaningful use is a daunting task and your software vendor must have a plan in place for helping you meet those goals. 4) You must make sure any software you choose is HIPAA compliant. 5) Evaluate how the software will make your life easier and if it will make you more efficient. Time is money in the business world. If a software can automate tasks for you and free up time for your staff, your bottom line will be increased without a doubt. 6) Finally, when considering a software vendor you must evaluate how the efficiencies of the software are going to affect your bottom line so you can evaluate pricing.

“Consistently Great Experience with Compulink”

OverallTotal practice management with reliability and ease of use
ProsThe functionality, flexibility, and extensive nature of the software is impressive to say the least. It is an affordable option that makes practice management and billing simple. There is a bit of a learning curve, but every person from sales to customer service has gone out of their way to help in all areas needed and to consistently respond to support requests. Training new people on the software has gone well. It is a powerful program that Compulink is consistently working to improve, listening to user feedback. I am relieved we went with Compulink, as we recently had Tsome rather extensive growth. the program has handled our growth without a hiccup and allowed things to continue running smooth. Perfect? No. Worth it? Definitely. Overall, they are highly recommended. There is not one area where Compulink promised and did not deliver. Their staff is professional, the tech support is knowledgeable, and everyone works hard to ensure our success. So thankful for Compulink!
ConsLearning curve is moderate to heavy depending on experience, but comparable to the powerful nature of the software. Having some minor issues with insurance information no importing from the web registration.

“Compulink, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.”

OverallCompulink is a great piece of software and very well thought out. But what draws you to this particular EHR software can also deter you. Let me explain, Compulink's main selling point is how customizable it is and how easy it is to switch from paper charts to EHR. But what they don't tell you is that the more you customize the software the less support they can truly offer and the more work you have to do to keep it all up to date. Don't get me wrong, Compulink's support staff is some of the best support people I have ever worked with. But the more you customize the less they can really do to help you. So the customization ends up being both a blessing and a curse. Overall, I would say that I would recommend the software mostly because of the great support and the fact that they do try and listen to you when you ask for a change in how the software fundamentally works. It just takes some time to get used to just how very different this EHR software really is compared to most other's available.
ProsI think the best thing I like about the software is the ability to write small "smart scripts" AKA "smart functions" in the EHR software that allows you to do many different things and even automatically fill out certain parts of the chart for the nurse and/or Doctor. There is also some printing functions that allows you to customize and print out specific letters to the patient and automatically fills in the patient's details or whatever you need really. The "screen builder" within the software is also very easy to use and makes customizing the software to how you want it to look very easy to do.
ConsAs I stated before, the customizations that you are encouraged to make can also cause huge issues in the functionality of the software. If you mess up your layout, the ramifications to the stability of the EHR software can be huge.
Recommendations to other buyersMy advice would be to try to customize as little as possible, at least at first. Compulink's trainers are very willing and able to help you understand the complexities of the EHR software and guide you through what to customize and what not to. My advice is to lean heavily on trainers until you get a grasp of the entirety of the software. Overall, it is great software. Just be aware of the pitfalls of customization.

“Compulink ”

OverallI have been a Compulink client for over 12 years and have seen the healthcare industry change a great deal. It is critical to have a software vendor that is committed to staying up-to-date on healthcare rules and restrictions. Compulink exceeds my expectations in this arena. They are on the forefront of the next phase in healthcare and I have been very happy knowing I have a partner looking out for my practice. Compulink allows me to either use the software in it's default format or to customize the software as much I want to meet the demands of patient flow and doctors' needs. I like being able to control certain modules within the software. I like the fact I can choose how "cookie cutter" or customized I want it to be. Compulink's training and support is phenomenal. They offer pre-recorded online courses as well as live webinars on every aspect of the software. This has been a great training tool for new employees. Their support department is very prompt in assisting me with whatever needs I have and are very knowledgeable about their product. Compulink offers various interfaces and third party programs for their software that makes our jobs easier. I personally take advantage of several of those features and they work very efficiently. The interfaces I utilize are for my autorefractor, visual field and online patient registration. The third party programs I use are Demand Force (e-mail/text software) and CLx (online contact lens ordering). Again, I have the choice of choosing what added interfaces would supplement patient care. I also maximize every module in the software. These modules include electronic health records, line item posting, electronic claims billing, direct billing for a couple of our major insurance plans as well as the inventory and lab modules. Compulink has found a way to nicely tie in every aspect of the software with each other.
ProsCustomer support, very detailed EHR system, electronic billing capabilities, ability to customize software.
ConsCustomization can be labor intensive if you choose to go that route.
Recommendations to other buyersThink about what aspects of practice is most important to you and compare various vendors. Ask for a representative to help evaluate your practice needs. Have someone in your office to be your software champion.

“Powerful Software and Solutions for Businesses of All Sizes”

ProsWe reviewed numerous practice management solutions but were unable to settle on any one, as there was always a missing part or feature we needed. As a new business, balancing considerations related to cost and access proved more difficult than anticipated - at least until we found Compulink Psych Advantage! The robust and versatile nature of Compulink Psych Advantage was a complete surprise, providing everything we need in an affordable solution that addresses current concerns while allowing for projected growth. The continual improvements and openness to client feedback is refreshing and appreciated. The Compulink Team is extremely professional, offering guidance and assistance through every step of the implementation process. Their attention to detail and obvious care to ensure every need is addressed and handled quickly makes them an invaluable asset to Compulink, and our business as well.
ConsIn looking at Compulink Psych Advantage, the demo was quite helpful in providing an overview. I was initially disappointed there was not an option to log into a test version of the software to 'try it out' beforehand. If you are a hands on person who needs to try it first before you decide, you may be disappointed to find a working demo version is not yet available. However, the demo was more thorough than anticipated and Psych Advantage was as easy to navigate as it appeared.
Recommendations to other buyersRecommendations include considering whether you want or need the option to change or add fields within the data screens, do you intend to have groups (if so, the group module is highly recommended!), and considerations related to HIPAA compliance. Compulink Psych Advantage addresses HIPAA, access, forms customization, field changes, treatment plans, testing and assessment, web registration, scheduling, and so much more - it is just too much to list! Above all, once you determine if Compulink Psych Advantage meets your needs (we would be willing to bet it does), talk to some of the Compulink Team. You'll find they are very knowledgeable, always ready to provide assistance, and very timely in responding to inquiries or requests. If you are serious about practice management software, consider Compulink Psych Advantage - they are serious about being the best. We think they have already accomplished that goal!

“Comprehensive and Customizable”

Pros1. The software is comprehensive. You can entire in an impressive amount of organized data regarding the patient's history, examination, and plan of treatment. You can use the same software to schedule all of your appointments, email or snail mail automatic reminders of their appointments, and fulfill meaningful use requirements. Lastly, it has a robust financial side of things. Easily audit your accounts, send out customized patient statements, run an incredible number of efficiency queries to maximize production. In addition, Compulink has already in place numerous agreements with 3rd parties to make sure the experience is smooth. I love the fact that we are cloud based and I can log in from home on the weekend and do everything just as easily as if I'm in the office. One final point is that Compulink has been in business as an EMR vendor for MANY years. The worst thing you can do as a clinician is go with a small startup company only to see them dissolve or sell out to a larger company. Now all of your time/money has been wasted.
ConsCalling for help is usually routed through calling the main number, leaving a message and waiting for someone to call you back. The cost of the product is probably higher than others on the market but in this arena I think you get what you pay for.
Recommendations to other buyersLook for an established company that can handle the front office, billing/collections, and medical records. Being fully customizable is very important--it might take some time to get things the way you want them, but it's much more frustrating to be told, "Our software can't do that."

“Just Switched to Compulink!”

OverallI just opened my own practice in November 2015. I had narrowed my EHR search down to Compulink and one other competitor. I originally chose the competitor only to switch to Compulink 3 months later. Although it is a hassle to change to any EHR systems, it was well worth the time and money spent. The implementation staff was great and easy to understand the whole way along. My staff and I are much happier with the new system, especially in regards to reliability and ease of use.
ProsFast cloud server that stays connected. Tabulates ledgers and Ohio Tax on materials CORRECTLY. Syncs well (once you're through the setup) with 3rd party services like visionweb, eyefinity, etc. Layout is fairly easy on the eyes. Inter-staff communication capabilities / user action items. Compared to other systems, Compulink is fairly more intuitive when trying to figure out something on your own.
ConsDifficult to quickly flip back to a specific patient encounter. However - things like old refractions, IOPs, and diagnoses are pre-populated into every exam. So this isn't a common frustration. Web Registration will sometimes not submit or upload correctly. The new layout is better but requires patient to register a username and password. Pricing structure (compared to my prev software company) - such as charges for adding a new provider to the practice etc.
Recommendations to other buyersI did quite a bit of comparing and online demo's before deciding on several systems, and still chose poorly on my first system. It is much easier to implement a new EHR system into an office than it is to change to a different one. I've never met a provider that is absolutely in love with their EHR system. Therefore I would talk to users of every system to better gauge their experience. I am far more happy with Compulink compared to my previous system. It is affordable and I would recommend it to anyone.

“After 15 years with Compulink - I made the right decision”

OverallWe have had Compulink now for over 15 years and have enjoyed the flexibility and ease of the software. The high points are numerous, from the EHR to the optical inventory management, from the patient web registration to the EOB posting, not to mention the response time for call backs to our office. We have been using the EHR component for 8 years and have enjoyed the ability to design our own custom tabs and exam forms. We also integrated all of our diagnostic instruments into compulink which has saved the staff a lot of time. We have the A/R, OCT, retinal camera, topographer, visual field and anterior segment cameras all linked into our EHR so that after a couple clicks of the mouse this information is downloaded into the patients medical record. The viewing software in compulink (to view the diagnostic images) is so comprehensive that we did not need to go to a third party platform such as FORUM or Synergy. Optical inventory goes by very quickly with the use of a handheld scanner. This scanner is also used for checking out products from inventory on retail sales. One of the most outstanding features of compulink is their web-registration. The patients are directed to go to our website to complete their online paperwork ie demographics, family and health information including meds and allergies along with all of their medical and vision plan information. Once the patient arrives in the office all of this data is transferred to the medical record. Talk about saving time! New patients can be taken back to pretesting within 5 minutes of their arrival to the office. One of the major problems that I see on these review sites is the slow response time for the software companies to get back to you concerning an issue. I can honestly say that this has never been a issue with compulink. Although if I had one issue it would be for them to have the call center open on weekends. The opticians have an easy time with the spectacle Rx screen. We limit the choices they have to choose from based upon what we want them to sell and we are able to incorporate packages such as ie Recreational sunglasses that will have highend AR, Polarized and UV treatment all at the click of one button. I have not had any real issues while with compulink, they do update their software every 2-3 months which I feel is an advantage. Overall I would grade them 9.5/10

“Have been using quite awhile”

ProsThe usage of this software is quite straight-forward and all in "one unit". Before we got our first EHR in 2009, I investigated several and wanted something that was integrated into one, instead of several separate modules. I actually know of several practices that are now CHANGING their EHR that started with some that I dismissed at the beginning. Everyone from Compulink is friendly and helpful and they also are at ease with the notion that I like to do a lot of the things myself. We have actually changed a lot of the layouts, etc to suit our practice needs and I like that you can do that with this product. If you can't do it yourself, they can do it for you.
ConsThere are occasional crashes when a new update goes through but I can get them on the phone right away. (If you tell them you are down totally, they will immediately call you back.) I really don't think the crashing part is a big problem as I have NEVER seen a program that didn't crash at all. I do wish they had different levels of tech support, that is at different $ amounts. I do not feel that we need as much tech support as some offices and I think that should mean that we pay a smaller monthly fee.
Recommendations to other buyersGive it a good "go" and do TELL the sales people what you want. It doesn't do any good to pay for something that can be customized and neglect to tell the software designers what you want.

“Review of Compulink's Eyecare Advantage”

OverallI have recommended Compulink's Eyecare Advantage for years. In the late 90's, when we decided to go to a Window's based program for our practice, I thoroughly investigated all the software programs for optometry. At that time there were five being marketed. Compulink's Eyecare Advantage was heads above the rest in the ease of use, included features, available options, and value for the money. All the other software programs seemed to be offering much less for the money. I have never regretted this purchase and have found great and quick support from the staff at Compulink whenever we have a question or needed some help. This software is easy for new staff members to master quickly because it is so user friendly, and Compulink's staff is ready to help any level user with any question. Compulink offers online classes, live and recorded, and all aspects of the software. Advantage Eyecare also has a help manual that can be accessed from whatever screen the worker is on, and by clicking on the help manual, the user is taken to the section of the help manual pertaining to that screen's function. It could not be easier to "check on something." Compulink's Eyecare Advantage also makes it very easy for the doc to use electronic medical records and achieve Meaningful Use. Everything you need is built in, and the software even "reminds" you if you have forgotten something for Meaningful Use, or if a diagnosis is not supported for the procedure.
ProsEase of sending and posting electronic claims. Most electronic remittances can post automatically, saving staff time. Ease of checking electronically on unpaid claims. User friendliness of software. Integration with Frames Data. Built in help to achieve Meaningful Use.
Recommendations to other buyersYou will not regret this software package. Compulink always has been, and continues to be the leader in optometric software.

“Changing over to Compulink's Advantage, Addiction has been a good decision. We now have the opportunity to provide significant reporting on the population we serve and deeper financial outcomes to be used for Quality Improvement. ”

OverallOur switch from an electronic health record, specifically developed for primary care to Compulink's Advantage Addiction that provides documentation around behavioral health has been a good decision. There are few options available in this service field that is as flexible as Compulink. I look forward to more in-patient treatment facilities coming on board so that a consoritum of users can work together and provide additional support.
ProsAdvantage provides an immediate snapshot of a client for easy lookup and editing. Compulink's Coordinator and Trainer has been readily available to all staff to answer to the issues and any questions that come up, allowing for limited downtime or productivity. I am sure as we gain more experience, our utilization can only improve. I expect that Advantage will provide us with the necessary work process mandated by state statutes and optimal business practices.
ConsI understand Gookomis Endaad may be the first in-patient treatment facility, which has been somewhat challenging to meet our basic needs. However, Compulink perseveres in modifying the product as we gain more experience. There are also some basic modifications that will be shared for consideration to process billing more efficiently. I would also recommend modifications to the training process. A better initial discussion regarding the implementation timelines in layman's terms would alleviate many of the pressures on the customers side, especially when there is limited IT support.

“Robust in features and great customer support”

OverallWe have had Compulink as our Practice Management software for over 5 years when we implemented an EHR system. The software is easy to use. Compulink has offered great support and timely response to every one of our requests. The staff is knowledgeable, professional and friendly. We are a large optometric practice with 4 locations and 7 doctors. For a practice as large as ours, Compulink has been able to handle all our requests. Compulink captured the data needed for successfully meeting the meaningful use requirements and offered very detailed assistance through their help manual, reports, and customer support staff.
ProsEasy of use. Integration of insurances for billing. Time-saving capabilities within the exam module such as forwarding previous exam information, drop down menus and encounter favorites.
ConsReports: Although there are a myriad of reports, not all are helpful. Production reports are worthwhile but the Practice management/financial reports lack the ability to customize according to our practice needs. The queries are difficult to use and have limited capabilities. As an example, the most problematic is that we are unable to pull up a specific insurance and determine the exact number of patients with that insurance and the actual dollar amount collected by insurance and patients.
Recommendations to other buyersPay for on-site training when implementing Compulink in the office. Trainers were knowledgeable, professional and worked well with all our staff. Training videos are extremely helpful but a hands-on trainer is worth every penny. No practice management software is perfect, but Compulink deserves your consideration.

“Overall good product for a large agency, but not very easy to use and expensive for solo practice.”

OverallIt was a good product for large agency and supervisor work. It was also good for highly detailed treatment plans and progress notes.
ProsI liked the ability to be very detailed in treatment planning and progress notes if I needed. I also liked the 'load previous note' so that I only had to update changes from session to session and could write progress notes fairly quickly. Psych Advantage was also easy to use as a supervisor, as I could view interns notes for feedback.
ConsIts complicated to use, as many of our therapists needed hours of training. We had many part time therapists and it seemed cumbersome for them to remember all the steps when they weren't using it every day. I also didn't like that there are so many individual tabs/pages for each client note. Going to private solo practice I decided to use another product, as psych advantage is more cumbersome and expensive than other EHR.

“Podiatry, outstanding EHR and billing software”

ProsCompulink Business Systems has supplied my practice with top-notch comprehensive EHR software since I changed software vendors in approximately 2012 with incorporation of ongoing patient EHR and billing software changes in the industry and have given me the opportunity to progress with the CMS stimulus and overall medical EHR and billing requirements in a relative seamless and successful ongoing progression in my practice of Podiatry. The recent mandated diagnostic changes of ICD-10 have been aggressively and comprehensively managed for integration in knowledge base and implementation by Compulink Business Systems. I have found the process to be very user friendly and hope that as well as Compulink Business Systems has accepted and made available the changes and conversion of ICD-9 to ICD-10, that I myself will continue to progress with these changes in a seamless successful transition to meet the requirements of coding for patient health improvement.
ConsNothing, I like everything to date.
Recommendations to other buyersAlways review product features as they would pertain to individual needs. Include cost and support and ongoing development.

“I REALLY WANTED IT TO WORK”

OverallAs an owner, IT person, optician and front-desk user, I regret purchasing this software. I actually do have a background in Computer Science from Rutgers as well as Ophthalmics from RVCC. I catch on quicker than the average bear, but with each update, my hair turns grayer and grayer. I really, truly wanted this to work, but I believe that at some point I will have to get a different EHR system because it just doesn't work for me.
ProsThere isn't a lot that I like about this system. Generally, support is acceptable. When you need help you will get it at some point, although I've seen a decline in this lately. The implementation is their strongest aspect. We had a great trainer help us and make it as easy as the program allows. If the implementation experience was the rule, I feel that Compulink Eyecare Advantage would be more successful than it is. Submitting claims is pretty good.
ConsIt is pretty slow (I use an Intel i7 2.8Ghz with 6 gigs of ram - translation: not a wimpy computer). Compulink, I believe, has some real problems. Text boxes do not match up with database field sizes. An example, when saving information and then recalling it, data will be truncated/lost. Database field sizes are really small, too. The optical portion (which I use quite a bit) gives the impression that opticians were not consulted. I use version 10.6.1.13 and on my spectacle screen, the DBL (aka Distance-Between-Lenses) element for describing a frame is spelled out as "Double" which is incorrect (while this is small (ie. just text), I believe it is very telling). Managing inventory is extremely difficult even with spexdata UPC (The Frames Data Disc - used for frame inventory information). The receipts are some of the most confusing documents to patients. We are nickel-and-dimed on too many aspects of the software (Software + Customizable Version + EDI (which relates to insurance claims) + amount of claims (not unique to compulink to be fair) + software/hardware integrations (want your EHR to work with a piece of equipment? add a fee (optional)) + Sybase (now required with version 10) + license fees + quarterly support fees + Sybase quarterly support fees + framesdata subscription (optional - not thru Compulink) + cloud-based backup (optional)). Customizable versions (which I own) aren't really that customizable and updates usually undo some type of functionality or any customization created. Lastly, and unfortunately, the worst part, is the ledger. Oh boy! I feel like I'm doing double entry accounting, it is the most unintuitive aspect of the system. Staff look at it and want to run for the hills. While I understand how to manipulate the ledger and there are webinars for training staff, the learning curve is very steep. Lastly, I can't tell you how many times I have had to run "Diagnostics" whenever compulink would crash. As we have migrated to other EHR systems, we have found that Compulink doesn't store/loses entire charts of information. Not good..not good at all!
Recommendations to other buyersI would avoid this product. There are much better ones out there that do not cost so much money and time to set up. If you love running "Diagnostics" all the time then I suppose you may like this.

“We call them Compu-stink”

OverallI wish I could go back in time. I was so naive.
ProsI like their instant messaging system. And their ICD9 conversion to ICD10 was done very well.
ConsCustomer service is EXTREMELY expensive. And they will sometimes NEVER call you back. I'm still waiting for Sangit to call me from a problem I've had since 2015! We have been using them since 2012, everything was set up wrong and we have had constant problems since. We have regretted going with them but are now stuck with them because we've sunk so much money into it. We even had to hire an IT person who is on call for when something goes wrong. Their support is full of people who don't even know how the software works and will tie up your computer trying to figure things out for hours. We dread running their updates because, while they fix some bugs, they implement a whole slew of new ones. We seriously feel like beta testers. They should be paying us because we are the ones figuring out the problems for them. If you complain too much, they will blacklist you and no one will return your calls. And there's no one you can submit formal complaints to. It just falls on dead ears. This is not the way a good company should be run. Their salespersons will tell you anything you want to get you to sign with them. A lot of the initial things we made a point to ask about when meeting with them were nothing like they promised. And when you bring it up to them, they make excuses and say that it's ridiculous for us to expect it to run like that.

“Fully Customizable E.H.R. from a supportive company”

ProsI love the flexibility that I have by having the ability to customize my screens, and the classes to learn how to customize are easy to understand. I'm also pleased with the quick turn around time for support calls.
ConsOccasionally they will roll out an update that repairs a glitch or 2 but it also changes some of their screens. Which means that if you are using their screens you may have trouble finding a field that you know was there yesterday on a different patient.
Recommendations to other buyersMost E.H.R.'s have similar layouts. They are all spreadsheets that collect data. Look for the one that collects your data in an order that seems natural to your Dr's. If the flow of the exam feels right it will be easier to adapt to. One of the other key elements to us was the customization. Not all systems are customizable and having the ability to make changes no matter how small they may be is a very big positive. You also want to chose a company that listens to your requests and problems and acts on them. We have made requests for additions to the E.H.R. and they have been fulfilled and if we have an issue they respond very quickly and try to solve the problem right away.

“Compulink Software works great”

ProsCompulink software is complete in it's capabilities. They are often the first software to offer what is newest and latest. The software helps me meet all the requirements for meaningful use and although it takes some practice, it is easy to maneuver through. As my office's needs have become more complicated and sophisticated the software has been there to meet my requirements. You can get as involved as you want in how you use it- the reports and complex or simple- depending on what you want. It fits my needs and I like that.
ConsAlthough the software is all there- everything you need is there- it can be difficult to understand how to use it. I think they could be a bit more user friendly- and I would like to see the people who design it be the people who have to use it. I think that would make it smoother and easier to use.
Recommendations to other buyersWhen you compare software make sure you are comparing apples to apples- they all have their good and bad points. Overall, compulink is more than capable and steadfast.

“Compulink is very user friendly, easy to train staff”

Overallit works very well in an optometry office
ProsMostly that it is easy to use. Most screens are self explanatory and do not require a lot of explanation. Things are easy to find.
ConsAny custom functions can be overridden in upgrades and have less support for the custom forms. As newer practice manager, learning the building of the templates and how to make changes to them can be a bit overwhelming. I have worked on the compulink system for over 11 years and some of the set ups of the system are difficult to navigate.

“Happy Compulink customer of 4+ years.”

ProsThe integration/interface options Compulink offers are second to none. We currently interface all of our testing equipment to save data entry and prevent the chance of human error. The arrangement and access of medical records, demographic, and billing information assists for the best patient experience.
ConsI look forward to the updated reports coming in the newer versions of Compulink.
Recommendations to other buyersBe sure to compare apples to apples. Evaluate each product and its respective services. Compulink offers the ability integrate with partners to send appointment reminders, send patient statements, submit claims, receive payer feedback, verify eligibility, use education tools, process and post credit card payments and much more. Our offices use each of these services every day to save on overhead and protect the patient's experience. Patient Tracking is an amazing benefit of the Compulink Software. Learn about Patient Tracking! Also, ask users of each software about MU and attestation. Compare how many users are successfully attesting.

“Overall happy I made my decision to go with Compulink”

OverallI had a rocky start getting set up with them, but that is to be expected with any practice transitioning to EMR for the first time. Now I am up and running things are fairly smooth.
ProsGood value for money, the trainers were very helpful. They have a lot of good features like accounts receivable and also I like how you can customize the EMR to a certain extent. They also can do an unsigned files report which is helpful to be sure no files get forgotten. I also like the option to integrate the billing and recalls right in the same software.
ConsVery hard to get a hold of the support team sometimes, but to be fair they are easier to get a hold of than several competitors I have worker with. The accounting department did make several errors in my bills but I did get that straightened out.

“Compulink is trying”

OverallWhen I started with the product they had just introduced Version 11. They have had multiple revisions to the product even since then which has made it better in some ways and worse in others. I use the cloud-based version and the software is never down when I need to use it except when my internet provider has failed me. The Practice Management portion of the software works well except for the scheduler. Posting checks and managing payments is simple. The insurance interface is good only for medical claims and won't do most vision only plans. Inventory management works well and it's nice to be able to print frame tags w/ a Dymo label machine rather than an specialty printer. My staff have not complained about the ordering process. The EHR has changed recently which has made it easier to enter data. I'd rate the EHR as average compared with others I've seen but this can be a matter of personal preference. I don't like interfaces that are too simple or too complicated. This one is mid-complicated, but if I could customize it, I could make it excellent. That is available but at a much greater expense.
ProsNot overpriced. Customer support is good. They are trying to make it better. They have an online forum where you can make improvement suggestions and if other users agree, then they will try to do it. They don't charge you while you are training on it which is good because it takes a lot of training. They have tons of help files and online training courses and if you still can't figure it out then customer support will help you.
ConsThe scheduler in the latest iteration of the software is terrible. It does not block out time slots for the patients you schedule. This leads to over-bookings by staff who must study each entry on the schedule to see how much time is allotted for the blank spaces under it. The Basic/least expensive version has limited customization and the latest version has made it less so. Long learning curve.
Recommendations to other buyersThis software is decent and affordable for those who don't have a large budget. I think there are better options out there but at a higher cost.

“Great software”

ProsVery in-depth system. Reports are thorough and you can choose what you want to see on the reports. Claims are easy to submit.
ConsDoesn't have multiple screens like other software (Kareo). Would be nice to bring up more than one patient to look at and compare, if needed. Patient statements still look like DOS statements - not with the times...

“Lots of customization, high learning curve”

ProsLots of customization options. Many ways to make it your own and tweak the flow to match your office needs. Templates are flexible and allow you to make an exam chart that matches exactly what you are doing. It is constantly being updated and Compulink is always asking for feedback to help improve the software.
ConsThe customization is a boon but also a curse. It makes it harder to learn the software and having some experience with coding is necessary to get the full potential out of the software. The training process isn't straight forward though a large training manual and videos exist it takes time to sift through the information.

“Compulink Review”

OverallWe have used the Patient Demographics software since 2007 and the EHR software since 2008. We have been happy overall with the product. It is easily customized to any practice's needs. However, it takes some learning on the user end for customizing tabs and layouts, as well as programming templates for dictation and smart functions.
ProsThe ability to customize the tabs and layouts is one of the strongest features of this software. They are also up-to-date with government programs such as Meaningful Use and PQRS.
ConsIt can take a very long time to address problems with the software. For example, when trying to send a letter to a referral via electronic fax, I cannot view different tabs when the Open Office document is on the screen so I cannot properly reference data from the tabs in the letter. This is important to writing a detailed letter but it has not been fixed even though I requested a fix years ago. Also, if I pull up a letter in Open Office and decide that I no longer want to send the letter, there is no way I can cancel it- it is being faxed no matter what I do.

“Great decision to go with Compulink”

ProsCompulink's best feature is its overall organization of data. I feel it is the best at capturing my patients data, organizing the data, and allowing me to use the data easily. It has become over this last year an indispensable tool/employee for my practice. I will say that I believe Compulink is one of the best in its support and training of its product. Compulink staff are always great to work with and respond to situations well within service expectations.
ConsI have no dislikes. Compulink performs well beyond my initial expectations. I am always surprised at the improvements that are being made to the program. Software upgrades are always necessary and since we are dealing with computers, there can always be an occasional glitch. Compulinks staff does an excellent job in ensuring smooth transitions.
Recommendations to other buyersI would recommend stop looking, complete the purchase, begin your training, and start enhancing your business.

“Good product over-all. Glitches here and there. ”

ProsAlways updating to make the program better. Customizable. Since this was not a web-based program we were able to scan document directly into the program which was SUPER convenient. Not sure if they are web-based now.
ConsCustomer service left us hanging once or twice - They use Emdeon as a clearinghouse, I was not a huge fan of their customer service AT ALL. EHR is integrated, BUT, you have to pay for the software up-front, purchase and maintain your own server, and pay for monthly subscription for customer service. Again, we stopped using this in 2015 - things may have changed since.
Recommendations to other buyersAlways shop around - but this product is nice as it has several options for customizing to your specific practice type from eye care to in our case psych.

“Psych Advantage is THE EHR system for mental health professionals! ”

ProsWe have been using Psych Advantage by Compulink since April 2015. We are thrilled with what it has done for the flow of business operations and chart compliance. It took quite a bit of admin (myself, the Executive Director and our CBO) time to set up and customize and we continue to make modification to meet our clinical and research needs. I would say, if your practice has 4 or more clinicians, this product should definitely be on your list to try out. It is expensive but worth every $ we have spent so far. Our staff say that after minimal training (less than 3 hrs each) they can work the system without much issue. Our staff also say it has decreased their paperwork time significantly. One of our staff's favorite features it how it automatically generates assessment reports. Would be happy to share more information with anyone interested.
ConsThere is really little to say about what we do NOT like. It is certainly more expensive that other softwares, however, once you think of all it does for a practice in terms of the ease of billing, remittances, and keeping charts compliant in case of audit, it pays for itself.
Recommendations to other buyersThe key to implementing Compulink Psych Advantage smoothly is to have 1 or 2 key administrators become experts in the software themselves and to work closely with the implementation team. It could also be helpful to speak to another practice director/owner who is using the software successfully.

“Full Compulink Integration - EMR, PM and Optical”

ProsSoftware is fully customizable. We can make changes according to what works best for our practice, and Compulink support staff will help with virtually anything! Their representatives return calls promptly and work with us to get almost any problem solved.
ConsCustomization is tough to learn. There are a lot of steps involved, but it can be done. Updates generally make unwanted changes, but we've come to expect it and know to test the software after updates. Other offices "warned" us about the same thing; it's just a necessary evil of any EMR system.
Recommendations to other buyersIf you have the resources and time to learn the software, this product - by far - is the most cost effective. We have minimal monthly fees and have made over double our money back by being able to achieve Meaningful Use.

OverallWe implemented Compulink in 1993 as a single doctor, single office optometric to support scheduling and billing. In 2009, we rolled out the EHR functionality among four doctors and 21 employees using over 45 workstations at three office locations. Prior to re-committing to Compulink EyeCare Advantage, we invested a great deal of time assessing alternatives and we remain very pleased with the product. Prior to 2009, we used a stand alone EHR and have been very pleased with the evolving integration of scheduling, billing, optical POS, and EHR functionality. Our team embraces the migration to electronic records and the GO LIVE in 2009 was well planned and executed, but required much effort by our management team and Docs. A large part of our success resulted from effort to identify and develop "super-user" employees, to forge the path forward and learn how to leverage the software functionality to improve operational processes with less effort and key strokes. Customer support and software development is very good and continues to get better every year. We are particularly impressed with the new online training module. It is easy to use and does an excellent job of training new and veteran users. Over all, the software has favorably supported our continued growth by connecting our offices together, and improving patient service with less effort. We have achieved Meaningful Use, and automated the collection of diagnostic information with interfaces to equipment. We look forward to rolling out patient portal functionality in the Fall of 2013.

“Compulink Gives You the Edge”

OverallIt was a very intimidating process to review numerous software packages. As a new company, I was concerned about finding an option that would be appropriate for a start up business (cost effective, functional, etc) that would not require a change as we grow. PsychAdvantage by Compulink was the perfect solution! If you want flexibility in a complete software program that meets your business needs, Compulink's software gives you the edge in every area.
ProsThe software is comprehensive and allows you to quickly and efficiently enter client data and track everything that is important to you. The streamlined screen flow, electronic billing, meaningful use, and other features in this HIPAA compliant software make it an affordable powerhouse for any business.
Recommendations to other buyersBe prepared to invest some time and energy into learning the software so you can benefit from all it has to offer. The training staff and customer support are first class - be sure you reach out for help when needed. Consider not just where your business is right now, but where you want to take it. Compulink software will support your business growth goals.

“Compulink Advantage”

OverallWe have been using Compulink's EHR Advantage now for 7 years. I have seen a lot of other Ophthalmology groups that have changed their software 2 or 3 or more times, but we have not been inclined to do this at all. The people that work for Compulink are first rate and we know if we have questions we can call them and they will take care of it. The program is relatively easy to use and provides information we need to maintain our Healthcare requirements since everyone has been required to go to Electronic Healthcare Records. All in all, would definitely recommend them!
ProsRelative easy to use, allows for personalization's that can be done by the customer, friendly and relatively fast customer service. Keeps up with the ever changing government requirements.
ConsOKAY, let's talk EHR here. Every 5 minutes the government is changing some requirement. That would be the only con and it's not Compulink's fault.
Recommendations to other buyersTRY IT! I think they have a trial period. It's an all in one package that has a lot of "add ons" if you want them, like billing, etc. Pick and choose what is best for you.

“I am an Eyecare Advantage with 10+ years experience in a multi-doctor multi-location practice.”

OverallEyecare Advantage is geared for the optical industry and customization of the software makes our jobs much easier. Compulink offers excellent support six days a week which puts my mind at ease that help is only a phone call away. I like the fact Compulink offers various support departments depending on my question or issue and I do not get a random CSR. If I have a meaningful use question, I get directed to a meaningful use expert. If I have a billing question, I get routed to the EDI department, etc. Compulink offers a wide variety of training opportunities from live webinars to pre-recorded courses on every aspect of the software so companies can train as they see necessary and the training is available 24/7. As milestones happen in our industry such as implementation of ICD-10, Compulink keeps clients updated with resources continually available. Compulink offers a variety of a la carte features in addition to their software product such as Demand Force for automated texts and e-mail reminders to patients, etc. The software is overall user friendly and easy to program on the back-end. I do wish I had the capability to customize reports from within the software that was much more specific to the information I want to be on one report but having said that, I can pull the information needed from the built-in reports, I may just have to run two reports instead of just one. Overall very happy with this product and the functionality of it.

“No System is perfect”

OverallThe good and the bad is that they are constantly updating things. I know that you need to have that done but we go along with them begrudgingly because I would really like to learn how to use everything well, but with the constant updates, just as soon as I get used to something, they are updating the software and I have to learn new stuff. It feels as though you are on a treadmill sometimes because it's never-ending. Then again, when we complain about things in the program, they do take our complaints into consideration when they do the updates.
ProsWe've been with them a long time so their support staff knows who we are. They triage their support calls so if your system is down, you will go to the front of the line. This doesn't happen to us too often so we do have to wait for a return call.
ConsScrolling back to look at old records is not as easy as it seems. Having paper to look at is still preferable to me.
Recommendations to other buyersNothing is perfect and once you accept that, you will be much happier. I know someone who is on their 4th EMR system

“Support and webinars are great! ”

ProsSupport personnel are excellent. They are very prompt, courteous and can take care of the issue quickly in most cases. The webinars are very good too.
ConsSomewhat problematic. On average, I have to contact support 2-3 times per week for various issues. Things seem to change within the program frequently (i.e. now you have to use Capital letters to auto populate fields, IM does not stay up until answered ...) and we find out about the changes all of a sudden when what we did yesterday, no longer works today.
Recommendations to other buyersSupport is excellent thankfully, because you will need it fairly often. Be careful not to customize too much. Updates erase most customized features.

“Just getting started”

ProsVery easy to customize. Company is open to adding features. Has been around for quite a while, which is reassuring. Cloud access is a big plus for our multi-site practice. Audiology integration with NOAH right out of the box was a big selling feature. Was able to do an unlimited claims option that made for higher, but level monthly costs, which made the change easier for our practice owner to swallow. Our old billing-only software was grandfathered in an unlimited plan. Search functions seem particularly robust on this software.
ConsLearning curve for our staff is steep, but appears to be manageable. Could be more colorful for the staff who look at it for 8 hours a day. A few staff members were hoping we chose a system that looked more like an app., though that one was priced much higher and did not have EHR.

“a one trick pony”

OverallI've had this system for almost a year, but had it in another office 15 yrs ago. It was terrible then and it hasn't gotten any better. Support can take days to call you back. The ridiculous thing about this software is that it's extremely complex, yet you can still only do one thing at a time. So if you're trying to make an appointment and someone needs to get something dispensed, you have to close out of the scheduler and dispense, then come back to the scheduler. Or vice versa, you can be dispensing, need to make an appointment, but can't do it, because you're in the scheduler. We're typically working with multiple patients with limited staff, and this software is NOT up to handling multi tasking. Data entry is all over the place, as some places have pull down menus, while others have type in entry boxes. There's like 30 different premade exam setups that come with it, but you really only need 4 or 5, yet you can't get rid of all the others from that drop down screen, so you're always having to search for what you want. It can't properly add, so when you're checking somebody out, you have to manually add up what the patient owes, because the system will overcharge them by some odd and varying amount. Don't waste your time with this software.
ProsNone
ConsIt's not able to multitask in any way shape or form. It's stupidly complicated for everything you try to do. Even basic stuff is not user friendly.
Recommendations to other buyersDon't waste your time with it.

“Great Software Company”

ProsThe ability to customize it for your own practice. Very user friendly.
ConsThe fact that when you need technical support you have to leave a message and wait for a call back. They are very good about calling back but me personally I would like to have the choice of being on hold or leave a message. Again they are very good about returning calls!
Recommendations to other buyersResearch, research, research. If you are not comfortable with your sales person it probably says a lot about the company. I.E. if they don't call you back when you are trying to buy imagine the tech support you will get. Also ask colleagues who they use, and take advice on how to prepare for the change!

“Nightmare”

OverallIt's a nightmare! Do not buy this system!
ProsThe system layout is relatively intuitive to use and has options for customization but the customization is difficult to do and it is not used friendly AT ALL.
ConsThe customer service is useless and billing is a nightmare. The company is run incredibly poorly. They constantly are updating the program and with each update, one thing may be fixed but there are a million new errors that you have to wait for the next update to fix... its a constant cycle of drop downs and other basic features not functioning then being fixed then something else not functioning. Every time I call to get help from the "customer support" the staff is rude and unhelpful and not at all apologetic about their program being a mess.

“Server based program requires a lot of training, is expensive up front, and crashes frequently”

OverallI wish I had gone with a cloud based program in the 1st place. I stayed with Compulink for 9 years because of the initial investment and hours of training I had put into it, but it crashed on me (or my front desk staff) numerous times making it impossible to do notes, scheduling, billing, etc. for any given work day. I'm frustrated I stayed with the software for this long, now I need to transfer 900+ clients to a different software.
ProsI can do scheduling, notes, and billing from the same software. It also has picture capabilities. Received over 40+ hours of training when 1st purchased.
ConsNot user friendly and can't access without being in the office, or connecting remotely. It seems like any updates to Windows, or the server, or my computer all seem to lock the software, making it unopenable. The current support system didn't work for me. I'd have to call and leave a message, or send an email request, and expect a response when it's convenient for support...usually NOT convenient for me. I called when it was convenient for me. I needed help then. Lot's of clicking and opening different programs in order to send bills, process payment, etc. Lots of steps for a simple task.

“Extremely frustrating ”

ProsWe bought Compulink Advantage for Physical Therapy because we need it. In our experience, Compulink has good salespeople, not good engineers. They hire nice front desk people. The technicians seem to be helpful; they try to fix the problems, but all the problems with the software come back over, and over, and over.
ConsWe found a lot of inconsistencies, it crashed very often, and out posting would disappear in the ledger! We also had claims that left the system with inconsistent NPI numbers, leading to wrong processing by insurances. Some technicians acted like the users were the problem and not the software. Compulink stopped working at least once a month, and then I needed to call the technicians. They would need to reinstall exe files, which would make it work until the next crash. After that, my records/databases were off. Many of my postings were gone and my receivables were skyrocketing. Poorly design statement forms. For example, the regular statement does not start from the beginning of treatment with the balance . The statement shows the first line as a "previous" balance. Our patients found the statements very confusing. When I reported this to Compulink, they advised us to educate patients how to read their confusing statements. They offered using other forms like "sort" that were even more confusing for the patients. Posting numbers do not add up. You can see the outstanding balance; however, when you go to the specific column in the ledger you may not find the amounts.
Recommendations to other buyersDo not listen to the sweet talk of the sales people. Talk to other people who have used the software.

OverallThis office has been using Compulink Psych Advantage for about 6-7 years. Before using Psych Advantage the office used another system, but all the claims were printed and sent out though the mail. It was time consuming and, at that time, didn't have an e-file system. I don't know the reason the office manager chose Compulink, but as the office manager for the last 7 years, I'm very glad she did. Anytime I call or email, my concerns and questions are answered as soon as possible. My favorite benefit is the share feature with the computer tech. I can watch while an issue is being taken care of and I don't have the added pressure of trying to find the area that is being worked. I'm not an IT and my time is valuable. This works well for our small office. This is a small office with one Psychologist and I'm the only person that does all of the bookwork. Having Psych Advantage makes submitting claims so much easier! I can breeze though the claims and insurance issues, and have time to file, answer phones, deal with clients, and not feel so stressed at the end of the day. I really do feel that, all in all, this company gives it's best to accommodate and satisfy it's customers. No exaggeration.

“Very Unhappy”

OverallSee above.
ProsWe are a private Psychiatric Practice in New York. We have been dealing with this company for years and of recent, months now trying to get our EHR and more specifically our medication system to work. We have had so much trouble every day for the past 7 months. We cannot get the system to work properly!. We have complained many times, we even sent a registered letter to the CEO to no avail. Our patient's are unhappy and we are extremely unhappy. We feel ripped off!!!.
ConsDOES NOT WORK. There is one excuse after another on a daily basis. It is horrendous.

“Compulink is outdated and not planning to update”

OverallGo elsewhere!
ProsIt is pretty easy to get in touch with support people There are lots of reports that you can run Its inexpensive
ConsThe biggest con we had was not being able to electronically prescribe controlled substances, even after NY state mandated it. They are still working on it and it been 3 years. Their eprescribe function is woefully out of date, and their ICD 10 codes are incomplete. They are putting almost no money into keeping the system up to date and it really shows. I would stay away as I see this company as going nowhere and whoever uses this software will be shopping for a new one shortly

“CompuLink is challenging.”

ProsCompuLink offers some excellent tools to complete the billing of sessions. CompuLink is also good at continuing to offer new functionality to its program offerings.
ConsCompuLink is not intuitive to use. Their customer service is excellent except that I cannot speak to someone right away. I have to wait and ask for a phone call when I know that I will be available later in the day or at another time. CompuLink's tools to alter the product are not intuitive either. Some of their products could be further enhanced.

“Complete and Comprehensive Software for Behavioral Health Industry”

OverallOur practice has been using Psych Advantage by Compulink for over one year now. As an executive director I have been able to ensure chart compliance through customizations (e.g. setting client specific reminders for treatment plans, etc.) and I am also able to easily access supervisee charts to ensure care standards are being met (hopefully exceeded). The customer service team continue to answer our every call. If I think of a feature I want included in the product the IT team is immediately available to add it to our product. Because of the easy to use claim submission features, our billing department has improved claims payout to 99% within 1 week. This software may not be the best for solo practitioners, however, for group practices or hospitals, I couldn't imagine there being a better software available.

“Compulink Advantage”

ProsThe product is user friendly and easily customized to fit our specific clinic needs along with top notch personalized customer support.
ConsWhile customizing is a strong suit, because of improving functionality you must be wary of updates effecting your custom fields.
Recommendations to other buyersBe thorough and understand your needs and goals prior to beginning research on an EMR vendor.
