Pros: Using New Relic with it's extensions dedicated to specific tools (like Drupal, Magento, Symfony...) allow teams to react quickly when something goes wrong on production systems. This tools allows system administrators and developers to have a real time insight into the servers metrics.

Cons: New Relic has a high price to access to it's features. But it's the most complete tool in my opinion, for server monitoring. Some steps are required to learn how this tools works and how to tweak it to be customized to your needs.

Pros: I love that New Relic allows my team to debug any site/server outages at a fleeting glance. Our favorite part about New Relic is the page speed insights. This allows us to make sure our servers are running at its peak performance at all times.

Cons: There are a lot of different portals on the new relic, it can get overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for or where to look.

Overall: The benefits we receive from New Relic allows us to make sure our server is always performing at where it should be.

Pros: - Does just about everything from monitoring server resources to application stats and custom metrics
- Works with just about every platform, language and technology
- Can do pretty much anything and comes with useful graphs/charts out of the box.

Cons: - It's becoming kind of obsolete as there are other more lightweight/specific tools that may do certain parts better
- It has caused my servers to crash before, and is a known issue with node sometimes.
- They removed the free tier azure.
- Very expensive compared to similar competitors.

Pros: One of the best monitoring tools to track performance of web applications and APIs. Feature of adding alert for various kinds of decline/downfall helps in keeping the application up and running all the time. Different types of reports are generated to give complete insight of application in production.

Cons: Cost of the tool is on higher side, agreed that it comes with lots of features and capabilities but still looks like cost is something that can be worked upon.

Overall: Monitoring of web application once production is deployed after every release.

Pros: New Relic allows you to monitor the performance and health of your application. It displays various detailed graph and analytics for each and every properties of your system. You can check what is bottleneck in your application performance and may appropriate steps accordingly.

Cons: Some of its useful features are not included in free plan. If you are running your application across multiple machines then new relic charges for every machine you add.

Overall: Using NewRelic we are able to check how many web dynos our Heroku app should take to fulfill the need of our clients.

Pros: Instant alerts on server issues. Performance testing may be performed with analysis of every service running on the environments. System uptime is being reported on daily with the toolset being most easy to use without slowing down performance. Training provided by new relic team was amazing, from our testers to engineers, everyone benefitted from understanding how to use the tool. We are currently running it on our UAT and Prod servers and the information gained has allowed an increase in performance via optimizations and a decrease in debugging.

Cons: Not many cons that i can mention. The tool has been a rather good addition to our tech stack. A strong machine is needed which can be costly if the server will be sitting in the cloud.

Overall: Completely satisfied with this toolset.

Pros: Seamless integration with apps made in different technologies. The graphs show you whats going on with your app and server. You can profile your apps and see what part of code is taking most of the resource and fix it.

Cons: Ability to report custom variables. There is a lot more happening on infrastructure than new relic reports. If they provide a way to report those variables as well, it would be a perfect infrastructure monitoring app.

Cons: I didn't like the mobile app. I also find the price a bit of a turn-off, even though its not excessively expensive

Pros: I love just how easy it is to trace and error, finding things that are broken without having to monitor comprehensive logs is fantastic. Using this tool during development, testing and when things go wrong to track down an error is fantastic.

The ability to trace detail, finding out why there are latency/speed issues in production environments ensures that you know exactly why your conversion metrics are lower than they should be before the wider business has had a chance to complain!

Cons: The pricing model makes the solution expensive, as it's per container or per server it goes against the use of load balancers.

Having to make trade offs to provide a good customer experience isn't a great business model.

Pros: New Relic gives us a great view into what is going on in the backend. Any time there is a production issue that isn't clear as to what is going on, we always jump to New Relic to see. It has pointed us in the direction of issues that would be hard to discover otherwise.

Cons: The pricing is very expensive, it does quite a bit for the money, but if you run quite a few servers the cost can be quite prohibitive.

Pros: NewRelic is a simple and intuitive solution that gives detailed performance metrics for every aspect of the environment, in real-time and most apartment I like the interface, it is nice the free option is also good, the admin dashboard is good because it has good charts and you can turn on / off the things you want to show or hide from the chart.

Cons: few concerns while the application monitoring is great, the server monitoring is not so great. The paid version (vs the free version) is a tad pricey. The only other thing I can think of is that the learning curve is a bit steep for inexperienced users.

Pros: You can track your application real time using the tool. You can check the errors, load distribution, response time and almost everything that you are concerned about the application that is live on production.
You can deep dive in to the sluggish SQL queries and find out the culprit.
You can track your application all the way from QA environment to Production if you have integrated New relic on all those servers.
It is very powerful and helps you in keeping the application in production up and running smoothly.

Cons: The price. Price is something which can be improved. It is very expensive and the evaluation period is also not sufficient.

Overall: I have used this application to track my application status on production. It gives us a deep insight as to what is happening around with the application.

Pros: Love the ability to see under the hood on production products while up and running. There have been countless times where we can pinpoint an issue in production that we couldn't replicate in dev. Great tool.

Cons: SOOOOOO expensive. I really wish their pricing model was based on number of transcations, dealing with their sales team has consistently been brutal. There seems to be no logic to their pricing and their sales people have struck me as super slimy, only interested in getting their commission. I would be much happier if they went to an AWS like pay per use model.

Pros: New Relic lets you isolate errors in your software. It does deep dives and tells you what takes a long time which can indicate if it's freezing the site. It will isolate different types of problems from Ruby to javascript. It has been a life saver when code has caused problems

Cons: It's expensive for the price. I mean if your team scoured this data constantly to improve things, then it may be worth it and/or negligable. But we use it when we have a problem, which doesn't come up that often. Last I checked you had to pay more for more history and that gets expensive. so if you use it twice a year to isolate a problem, then paying year round is expensive...especially compared to other services like honeybager

Overall: Helped us isolate code that was freezing the server in odd scenarios.

Pros: I like the professional nature of the software and the in-depth inspection of how our software stack works it surfaces. It makes certain classes of issues much easier to see.

Cons: I used to really not like the cost of the service when accessing them as a startup. I believe they've found a price point that makes sense some of the time. It is still hard to understand the model if you are using it outside of a SaaS provider.

Overall: Insight into how the software stack is performing. It also shows us certain errors or slow downs that we'd have no other way of seeing.

Pros: New Relic provides ways to visualize and quantify almost any aspect of your website or app's performance. Once you tweak the settings you can filter down to just the information you want to know currently, and it's easy to focus on high-traffic pages to get the most bang for your buck when using the data to optimize your site.

Cons: It's not immediately intuitive. It took a couple of product demos to start to understand how everything is organized. Go in expecting everything to be clickable, and that will help you more than anything. The price ended up being the biggest downside.

If you have a problem, you will get support - it may take a while to find the right person, but you can even talk to the engineers who built the part of their service you are using.

Cons: We've had a ton of reps we've dealt with - very little continuity
Though the base features are great, it's easy to spend a LOT of extra money on other features. Sometimes it feels like one of those "free-to-play" games where you are tempted to spend money at every turn.

Overall: New Relic provides much-needed visibility and monitoring for our application's performance. With a ton of insights into how the elements of our application interact, New Relic has helped us tune the experience for our users and identify potentially disastrous issues before they become problems.

Pricing is can be a challenge, though. If you have a highly distributed server model, their per-server pricing can be prohibitive. As long you fit in their model, it really can save your hide and help your business.

Recommendations to other buyers: Start with the basic feature set and get a sense for how it works in your organization. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance from them. They want to make sure you succeed and are always glad to help you realize more value from your investment.

Pros: Application traces.
Transaction level monitoring and alerting.
Availability monitoring.
Integration in other tools (Geckoboard).

Cons: None so far.

Overall: New Relic gives us the ability to monitor both our cloud servers, backend services and frontend applications. It alerts us when resources are scarce or when the application reaches a treshold of errors. As a bonus for paid accounts, you also get the ability to trace down into the code to see if there is a specific bottleneck in your application. It even has the ability to trace the queries to databases or external services.
It's alerting system can be integrated in a variety of other tools like Slack, pagerduty, Geckoboard, ...
By using New Relic, we have regained peace of mind because we know New Relic will alert us before things start to go wrong.
If you are looking for a monitoring / alerting solution, it's definitely worth checking out!

Recommendations to other buyers: Try the free tier, it has most of the features a startup will need. Once you start scaling up and performance becomes more important, switch to a paid account.

Comments: They have very deceptive billing practices. I agreed to a 12 month term, kept the product for 2+ years before cancelling. Upon cancellation I was charged three months fee because the product had "auto renewed" for a third year. My sales rep had told me it was a one year contract, no mention of anything auto renewing. I would have gone back to new relic but not after this.

Comments: We were using Crashlytics/Fabric before we switched to New Relic. Crashlytics is better at reporting the crashes I believe. Mainly because they can include custom data. Like id's etc. But the Insights part of New Relic is really good and for us it ads value.

Pros: Insight is really good and easy to use. And it's really good that 7days retention is now part of normal tier.

Cons: Not getting custom attributes on crash reports. Cumbersome to compare data from different versions in mobile part. But it can be done in Insights.

Comments: I've only used the trial so far but it has been great. I'm using Azure worker roles and it has been good to work with so far.

Pros: - Great customer support - Powerful customization of metrics

Cons: - Azure support for the name of the apps is a bit lacking

Comments: The key to monitoring the app and then rapidly determining the cause of a potential issue is seeing the transaction context. That's the power of having this tool in place.

Comments: Product teams are coming to us all the time asking for new features. It¿s easy to get overwhelmed. You can¿t possibly do it all, so you must make intelligent choices. Trend data from New Relic helps us make informed decisions about what we absolutely must work on, right now

Amazing tool

Comments: New Relic allows to see performance for each component of the stack on the same chart. I had experience with that before using in-house tools, to measure latency added by Solr, internal API, database, and the site itself - it's so great that finally there's a tool to do that properly. It also doesn't slow down the servers by sending the information (unlike some other monitoring tools like AirBrake).

Cons: The UI is a bit difficult to navigate - the tool has evolved a lot, and because of that there are too many options.
