We updated all sites and vehicles to RFID technology approximately eight years ago and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Pros The fact that it was fully integrated with our FleetFocus Asset Management System was a primary driver. Not maintaining two separate databases (one for fuel and one for fleet) is a big plus. Look beyond the initial capital outlay to the total cost of ownership and a single integrated system is the way to go. Also the value of accurate meter readings has improved our overall PM scheduling and mileage reporting to to the FTA for PM compliance. Cons Initial cost for hardware is a bit higher than competition so sometimes justifying the additional funds is difficult, but again if you look at total cost of ownership between a fully integrated solution and maintaining two different systems, the integrated solution always comes out on top and a ROI is generally less than 24 months.
