### "Easy to use software that works"

March 30, 2023

5.0

This past year (our first year with ) has been the best year of my so far 6 year journey as Church Treasurer.

Pros

The fact that I have never been trained as an accountant, combined with this software's ability to teach me as I use it, makes a sometimes thankless and daunting task something I can look forward to.

Cons

I wish that the expense account info would print on the checks 2nd and 3rd part automatically. This is especially important for payroll. There's no way a small church can afford to pay another vendor to handle payroll, but it's vital that any pay check I issue contain info on the amounts deducted (social security, state and federal taxes, etc) be printed on parts 2 and 3 of the business check. currently does not do this while even Quicken does at much less cost.

### "Donation processing very complicated and bad customer service"

January 26, 2026

2.0

It's impossible to reach their customer service. I've been trying for 2 weeks and they just hang up on the wait line after 10 mins! I pay more than $100 per month and I am unable to even speak with someone.

Pros

Donor management system is good. You can maintain a database of all your donors and create household links.

Cons

prides in being the number #1 church accounting software. But it's donation (main revenue for a church) processing system is terrible. 1. To get the donations entered in the software and into the accounting, you need to do multiple steps which are not even linked to the bank integration system. 2. For the contribution statements, there is not too many options to filter. For example, you cannot generate a report on acknowledged/dismissed contribution statements. Why even have these fields if they are not useable? 3. You cannot save the email template so you have to type it over every time you want to email a contribution statement.

### "Aplos Great Product Unfortunately Overpriced"

October 19, 2023

5.0

It started out great, but we left not because they have a bad product but because they priced themselves out of the market. Raising prices 300% in a year. We found another solution with equal service at significantly lower cost.

Pros

We started on for the accounting features. It was easy to setup and matched the way we did accounting at our church. It was easy to make entries, and record donations all in one place. Customer service was great.

Cons

Over time features were gradually removed or moved to higher and higher priced tiers. Budgets, have to pay more. Want more users pay more. More contacts pay more. They added more and more features that were of no use to our church and kept raising the cost.

Alternatives considered

### "Aplos is a lifesaver! "

April 15, 2022

5.0

Pros

I like that there is great customer support and easy to understand tutorials and instruction. The team there is always helpful, quick to respond, and so patient and kind. Although I can find the help I need online most of the time, I like to talk to a real person on chat or on the phone.

Cons

There are so many types of reports for a newbie to understand that sometimes it can be a little bit overwhelming.

### "Sounds Great, poor accounting functionality"

December 20, 2022

3.0

There is no ticketing system in place. You can report a problem; they may even fix it. You would never know unless you test the system. No update notes to follow. No user group - so they believe they have a good product.

Pros

Contributions are easy to track and report on. The software is relatively easy to use. I can keep a simple Chart-of-Accounts and use Tags, allowing more detailed reports as needed.

Cons

Even many basic accounting functions are missing: Default Expense Codes for Vendors; Contributions do not post in detail at the GL level; it's hard to drill down and find out where the transaction came from. If there is a NSF check; you have to enter it 2 times; once in GL and once is the Contribution module otherwise the detailed contribution report will not match the general ledger. The software does not post journal entries as entered. It batch totals cash account lines, making it impossible to reconcile to cash: example Payroll when you have some people getting direct deposit and others a check. Support is useless. I have to figure out my own work-arounds for accounting transactions. They don't understand the basics. You can't print a comparative financial report: This Year vs Last Year.

We changed from QB because of the lack of fund accounting. The accountants that did our install did a poor job and we struggled with QB. We maxed out our COA. But the accounting functionality and reporting was much better.

Cannot say enough about the excellent support (Especially from \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\]and his team) making the transition to in the middle of our year and the quick response during the process and afterwards.

Pros

Time savings, ease of use, great support available and easily understood. Wonderful training session and tools available at your fingertips.

Cons

### "Very Difficult and Complicated, With Poor Tech Support"

June 14, 2020

3.0

Not good. I need help, and the support never provides help that works.

Pros

Had potential for non-profits vs QuickBooks

Cons

Bank integration does not work. I've used QuickBooks for non-profits, with integration that works fine. In , what shows up in Aplos doesn't match what the banks say. Tech support answers fairly quickly, however, they come up with all kinds of solutions that don't work. And different people will offer a different solution. None of them work. Then they drop it leaving me hanging. I may go back to QuickBooks which once you get a few words down (business terms vs non-profit) it is actually quite easy, and more dependable.

Response from Aplos

June 19, 2020

Hi William! Thank you for your feedback, and I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you've had concerning bank integration. You also mentioned using QuickBooks instead, so if you don't mind I'll briefly speak to both. QuickBooks creates and maintains its own bank integration feature, whereas Aplos has a partnership with Plaid and Finicity, which are industry leaders in the space. Plaid and Finicity both connect with the financial institutions and pass the information back to Aplos. We have very little control over the information received. However, we do have a great relationship with both partners, and consistently work with them on improving the experience for our customers. As for using QuickBooks, this may be a better fit if you do not need Fund Accounting and donor management. Our Customer Success Director, Alex Acree, will be reaching out personally to help troubleshoot the bank integration issues you're seeing. If you have any other questions or feedback please let us know.

### "Aplos is great"

March 4, 2021

5.0

The Fund Accounting is most helpful for the churches I help. The monthly reports are great to send to my clients so they can see where their money goes and how much they take in. On some clients, the WePay feature is great for online donations going right into . I love being able to message Aplos right from the client's account with questions.

Pros

The ease of use is best and the access to help in a timely matter.

Cons

You can't set up Vendors with a specific Account # like in QuickBooks.

### "Aplos - A Stellar Business Model!"

September 9, 2021

5.0

My overall experience with has been phenomenal! They literally have THE BEST customer service of any company in any type of business with whom I have ever interacted! When I contact them with a question, I am always made to feel like a valued customer. In addition, each customer service representative has always answered my questions thoroughly, kindly, and professionally. I also like the fact that Aplos listens to its customer base. Over the years (since 2015) that we have been with Aplos, I have seen improvements/additions to the software as a direct result of customer feedback.

Pros

What I like most about the software are the many features it offers that make the business aspect of our ministry so much easier to handle than it was before. Within Aplos, we get the extremely beneficial multi-level fund accounting, donor management, event registration, website building, etc. As we are growing, we are also applying other features of the software. It just keeps getting better!

Cons

Initial integration of this software into our church usage had its "hiccups" but not because of . It was a "learn-as-you-go" process for me.

### "Overpriced and Too Complicate for Small Organizations"

April 17, 2023

4.0

If you don't need any help, this program can be great. But as soon as something does not work for you, forget it. Their support staff is friendly but ineffective.

Pros

Integration with PayPal was really nice, also the capacity to create and send emails to donors.

Cons

PRICING: Force to pay for features we never use. And their new pricing schedule (july 2022) DOUBLED our subscription price without adding a single new feature. SUPPORT: Nobody helped us understand and make good choices regarding their new pricing schedule. They just don't care or respond to our needs.

### "Intuitive Software and great support"

February 3, 2021

5.0

We have a robust reporting for our church finances. Better than most I've seen and I think it is in most part due to the ability to talk through the needs with support and get the help on what functionality meets those needs.

Pros

When I came on board as treasurer we were using the software inefficiently and not taking advantage of functionalities that would help us. I worked with the team asking questions about my needs and they translated those needs to functionality. Within a very short time I created funds and tracked financials that gave a much better picture of our finances.

Cons

I was not around for implementation so I am unsure if the problems were the or GVC team related. Now I understand the software, it is critical to plan the uses than implement .

### "Great system for project based accounting "

October 2, 2023

4.0

Really great. I have no desire to use any other software.

Pros

It’s really a straightforward bookkeeping software with excellent training and support. I feel like I’m getting a solid value for my money.

Cons

The training felt a little disjointed, and perhaps it’s because I’m not a trained bookkeeper. So they give great advice when it hits home, but there were some basics I was missing. Keep training from the ground up.

### "Easy of use with big impact."

March 30, 2023

5.0

Pros

Our company is run by a VERY small team. ' ease of use allows me to book keep, budget, and analyze our finances efficiently, and saves our small nonprofit lots of time and heartache. The customer service is ALWAYS quick to respond and help. The tags function allows us to track our service to our many partners, which is very easy to manage. Aplos = ease of use leading to a BIG impact!

Cons

Unsure what to say here. As an administrator fulfills our needs. There hasn't been anything that's come up that I've disliked.

### "Perfect Solution For A Church Plant"

January 4, 2017

4.0

Starting a new church comes with a lot of tasks for a small group of people that are typically spread out between many in larger churches. We didn't have anyone with professional accounting experience, and we didn't need anything complicated to start out. was the perfect solution! They offered us a discount as a church plant, and got us moving in the right direction. Now four years into the process, Aplos has grown with us. We have been able to easily add others to the account management, add new funds and new features as we have grown, and the customer service has been quick and helpful whenever we have needed it. Some things I like best: \*easy to use \*the "dashboard" gives a quick read on finances at a glance \*fund-based accounting makes it easy to track various donations \*customer service is excellent \*cloud-based design makes access easy from anywhere Things I would like to see improved: \*I would love to be able to integrate payroll with Aplos \*Report can be customized, but not always as much as we would like Overall, this is an excellent product for the value and I would recommend it to anyone starting out.

Pros

Ease of use Fund-based accounting Cloud-based design Scalable Excellent customer support

Cons

Wish it included payroll integration Would like to be able to customize reports more

### "Great Church Software with wonderful customer service"

January 4, 2017

4.0

We have been very satisfied with as our main accounting software. The customer service has been top notch and many of our suggestions about improving the software have been implemented into new versions. Hoping for a more robust Contacts module (email, texting, more information tracking) in the future!

Pros

Its online. Multiple user access. Great reporting. Easy to use. Great customer service.

Cons

The Contacts module is very limited - would be great to have more contact management tools (email, texting, grouping, tracking) so that we wouldn't have to have a separate software for that. Other software was somewhat disappointing - hasn't always worked correctly and a bit confusing on how it integrates with .

Pros

Cons

### "Aplos Software Review: Why it's the best Software for Small Non-Profits"

February 8, 2018

I would recommend it to anyone who needs both an accounting and donor management solution for their non-profit organization.

Pros

A complete package that handles both your accounting needs and donor management needs. Is very affordable. has a program for new non-profits that makes it even more affordable. Has a program that does email marketing for you and collects emails thus building your donor base. Lets you design online web pages to post. Form 990 Reporting. Excellent Customer Service and will schedule regular calls with you to train you on the software. However it's easier to use than QuickBooks. Directly links to your checking account so that your balances are updated continuously. Takes online payments through WePay Can manage up to 5000 contacts. ### "Aplos Fund Accounting"

November 23, 2016

5.0

I have used the basic version for our small nonprofit foodshelf for nearly a year. I am a novice at accounting, so I started with the fun, informative teaching videos and it all made sense. Initially setting up the accounts we needed took some thought, but it was up and running in a short time. I'm able to enter transactions quickly, make changes easily as needed, and run all the reports I need for our payroll taxes. I love the fact that it doesn't use more complicated terminology, like "customer, vendor, employee" like QB, because that's not what we call our donors and suppliers. I like the check printing function, too, but it would be great if Aplos could print deposit slips. I have to re-enter into QB and then print it out, or do a handwritten deposit slip. Other than that, I am very happy with Aplos. Have not needed customer support yet, except to ask if it had a deposit slip printing function. My answer was prompt and courteous. Our Board was pleased that we were able to get a discount on the monthly rate since we have a small budget, and the fact that Aplos is cloud-based means both the treasurer and foodshelf manager can access the software without going onsite. Definitely a PLUS! Bank reconciliation is a breeze, too.

Pros

I liked the ease of navigating the different functions, ease of setting up accounts and budget, the cloud-based format, the number and types of reports that meet all our needs, and the easy bank reconciliation function. Our small nonprofit got a monthly discount. Training videos very to-the-point and entertaining too.

Cons

I wish had a deposit slip printing function in the basic version - not sure if they do in the upgrade?
