December 8, 2016 4.0 I am happy with the ease of use for this accounting software. Our biggest complaint has been in the area of reporting. It is difficult to get the report info needed for our accountants. For some of the reports I have to export the data and manipulate it in excel to get Debit and Credit Columns on reports that would usually have that info. But, it is inexpensive and keeps the records accurately. So on a whole we are happy. Pros Menu layout; integration between accounting and contributions; like the ability to enter a person in contribution management and it automatically gets entered in people database; reports are what I need; flexibility in making improvements to the system; they listen well; ease of use, don't necessarily have to be a CPA to use it. It would be nice to be able to synch it with other programs like Pay Pal, but not a big deal! The controls are intuitive, the reports are straightforward. They've really done a good job in this area. Its deficiencies are with people integration. Pros It's ease of use. For the church staff with no accountant that has to handle finances via committee, Aplos is near perfect. Reports are easy, data entry is easy, reconciling is easy. Cons In order to track who gives what, you will need to duplicate your entire database of people into it first, then maintain the duplication. This ultimately led us in another direction. If there was a way to tie in an already-existing database (we use Elvanto), then we would have been sold. Review Source JS Jimmy S. It's built specifically for non-profits. Cons I greatly dislike that I cannot have a desktop version because doing accounting transactions in a web-based portal means you have to be online and you need to prepare for each transaction to take a second to load. And they charge a premium to be able to access some functions that feel as basic as what is included in QuickBooks software. Review Source SH Stephanie H. This software actually does assist with mailing out info to donors and setting up recurring donations etc. Pros I liked the ease of use and the fact that you could chat with representatives to assist with any questions. They also provided free webinars often to assist with fundraising tactics and other things. We've been using it for 5+ years now, and we've not had any issues with it. As they have built in new options as the years have progressed, we've taken advantage of some of them, and that's added to its value. It mostly avoids technical accounting terminology at both the input and reporting stages. The ability to link directly to a bank account saves a lot of time and makes bank reconciliation a breeze. This software is particularly useful to organisations who need to keep track of a number of different "funds". The support team respond quickly to any queries. Cons What I like least about this software is I wish there was an option or settings feature, like a check off list, that prompted the user for all things needed for being non-profit.
