We can manage Cloud and on premises Storage with an ease. Also, controlling the systems is pretty accurate we you have a huge environment to manage.

Pros

Well it provides us with good monitoring and adaptive sensitivity to manage all the resource which we have with netapp.

Cons

Well, as of now I did not find any con as I have been using and administrating the product from a long time. NetApp support is also very good on this product. It is a value for money product to purchase.

NetApp is a very robust enterprise storage system, easy to manage and delivers very low latencies.

Pros

Product very easy to use and manage. Product very easy to setup and configure. All flash systems reduce latency and increase IOPs. Excellent storage efficiencies (snapshots, deduplication, compaction, compression). System is cloud ready.

Cons

Improvements should be made to integration with other storage systems.

ONTAP is an excellent storage management solution, but what really makes NetApp shine is their support. I've been thrilled with NetApp's support.

Pros

It works; it does what I need it to do, and it's relatively intuitive, if you're not afraid of a command line.

Cons

There's not much I don't like about my NetApp. It sits in the corner doing its thing, and ONTAP doesn't need much handholding. I do have to update it every now and again.

Solving many different business problems such as capacity and performance growth of databases (ORCL via dNFS, SQL over iSCSI.) Also remaining on-prem exchange workloads are better managed via SnapCenter. And NAS (CIFS/SMB, NFS) are better from a deployment standpoint.

Pros

Great new feature sets. Advancements in Storage efficiencies (Deduplication, compression, compaction.) Move to aQoS (Adaptive QoS) feature sets. Looking forward to implementing FlexGroups and FabricPools. Also interested in learning the new AIQ-UM tools enhancements and service design features to match both performance and capacity. The new long-term support model is also great!

Cons

You must upgrade to 9.5 before upgrading to 9.6. Also, you can't upgrade from OCUM 9.4 direct to AIQ-UM 9.6. Also, AIQ-UM 9.7RC1 and WFA 5.1RC1 are released so soon after 9.6P1 and 5.0.1 released. NSLM i(NetApp Service Level Manager) s not a mature product and needs to be more enterprise ready before we deploy it.

My overall experience with NetApp OnTap has been great. When it was implemented we consolidated geographically dispersed storage systems into several NetApp clusters in 2 datacenters. Having all of our data manageable in one pane of glass has been great.

Pros

OnTap provides great tools for managing and administering our storage infrastructure. The best feature is the OnTap Unified Manager which puts all of your storage information in a single pane of glass.

Cons

When using OnTap, there is a learning curve if you are coming from other storage providers such as Dell or HP. It was not very easy to get right into and figure out, but NetApp does offer training to help with this.

Stable & versatile, but you need to have an advanced degree to administer or monitor.

Pros

NetApp has always risen to the top of the list in terms of versatility and reliability. We’ve always appreciated having the options to connect to our data however we need (CIFS, iSCSI, NFS), and over the 6 years we’ve had it in operation, it’s been extremely stable & reliable.

Cons

Administration has been a challenge. Their On Command dashboard has improved over the years, but still leaves much to be desired. Not very intuitive, and can be difficult to navigate. You need a separate VM for performance monitoring, and it is also cumbersome to use. And our worse frustration is system upgrades. Through their support website, you can generate a detailed upgrade guide, but it’s 28 pages long, full of dozens of complicated CLI commands. It should not be this difficult. Other vendors have one click upgrades.
