“What makes this particularly concerning is that these claims were marked as successfully sent within the system, creating the impression they had been properly transmitted when they had not. Because the issue was not identified in time, my ability to resolve it within the required timeframe was limited. When the issue was finally identified, the responsibility for correcting it was placed entirely on me as the provider.“

### "Great Therapy software"

April 9, 2026

5.0

We have had a great overall experience with therapy notes and would highly recommend it to any practice!

Pros

Therapy Notes is a great all around EHR/EMR/RCM software. It is focused on mental health/therapy and does a great job for the clinician being an easy to use and navigable site. The RCM piece of it is simple and does the job.

Cons

It would be nice to be able to have more information on claim rejections and how to resolve the issue within the software.

Great Experience . Great Customer services. As all platofrms needs some improvement in the front end of the platform and also ability to have more customizable notes

Pros

Great EMR , great support, just wish that features for a prescriber provider are improved as fast feature for therapist. I have tried multiple EMRs and none vcan beat TN

Cons

The front-end part. Need Receive Telehealth link via SMS and not onloy by email . Will be great to improve also the intake process for Presciber providers, such as fill out forms reciving a link by SMS -since there is a lot of elderly patients not able to have access to portals

### "Therapy notes"

November 25, 2025

3.0

It's fair, it is a lot better than some systems I have used in the past. They explain pretty well each service that's offered.

Pros

Easy to understand, learning and operating the schedule is simple. Having access to the billing part really helped.

Cons

All of the updates that makes it freeze. It doesn't allow you to add a new intake appointment for EAP services.

### "We Love Therapy Notes"

March 31, 2026

5.0

Wonderful! It has never given us any trouble and our team as a whole loves it! I have worked with Therapy Notes for 4 years now and it has always been consistent and easy to navigate!

Pros

Therapy Notes is so easy to use & user friendly! We have never had any trouble teaching a new employee how to schedule, they have always caught on within minutes.

Cons

Nothing. No complaints at all. The Therapy Notes platform is setup wonderfully. You can leave notes in a patient's chart, in their appointment alert box etc. There are also note sections for billing and patient info.

### "Get your life back!"

June 15, 2026

5.0

I can only tell you that I have a life back. Customer service makes all the difference when you can talk with someone.

Pros

What can I say? What you pay for this program gives you more than value for your money. It gives you peace of mind. The customer support is incredible. You get the talk to real people, not AI. The app is easy to use and you can start the same day you start working away seamlessly. It is always updating with great new features and the ones already there make your life so much easier! When there are any bugs, they are always there to listen and make it right immediately. I always know when there is a problem because the client support system they have keep you on the loop. Their reports are no nonsense. You get what you want and if you can't find it, call them. Someone will literally answer and get you what you need. I can't see myself using anything else ever!

Cons

There is nothing I can't like about therapy notes. I wish they would expand to spa ware. If they would I would so change the one I am using for my holistic spa practice!

### "A Decade of Consistent Quality and Outstanding Support"

November 21, 2025

5.0

My overall experience has been outstanding. I’ve been a user for over a decade, and TherapyNotes has supported the growth of my group practice seamlessly. The software is reliable, the features keep improving, and the customer support is unmatched. I plan to stay with TherapyNotes long-term because they continue to earn my trust with every update and every interaction.

Pros

TherapyNotes delivers strong value. The price is fair for the amount of functionality, reliability, and support included. Top-tier. Their support team is responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about helping users. Very intuitive. Everything is laid out logically and easy to navigate, even for new staff. Well-rounded and constantly improving. They consistently add updates that make a real difference in daily workflow. The client portal is straightforward and easy for clients to use, with very few issues on their end.

Cons

Technical issues are extremely minimal, especially considering how many different features it has. Any issues I’ve encountered over the years were fixed quickly or added to the queue to be reviewed. Occasionally I wish some updates rolled out even faster, but the quality and thoroughness of their changes make the wait worth it.

### "Therapy Notes gets the job done"

December 31, 2025

4.0

It was not great, but it was a good experience. It worked for what was needed in the group practice, but I switched to a different option when I branched into my own private practice.

Pros

The ease of scheduling clients and being able to go from one note to the other with the click of a button was very helpful.

Cons

It did not have the customizable features - color coordination, various billing rates for different individuals, submitting paperwork online. And I don't think it had an online portal for scheduling/cancelling appointments.

### "Fabulous!I have been recommending Therapy Notes to all my friends in the field."

December 3, 2025

5.0

Therapy Notes makes it easy to use, and I get my notes done quickly and accurately. I love the support whenever I have an issue,e big or small.

Pros

The service is fabulous. I have been working with therapy notes for the past 4 years and have found it to be the best platform to use.

Cons

Sometimes issues with Telehealth cause interruptions. However, they are quick to fix problems that arise and to explain the causes.

### "Helpful tool but costly "

June 23, 2026

4.0

I like the function and value of this platform but the cost is the only thing I would think twice before signing up for it.

Pros

I like how the platform is easy to understand and has all the parts we will need to fill up to avoid having out notes being unprofessional.

Cons

I don't love the fast I need to pay over 70 dollars after tax per month just to use this. This is a huge cost for someone who owns a small business that is just starting.

### "Great for most therapists, not customizable enough for me"

October 23, 2024

4.0

I first used therapy notes as a staff clinician at a group practice. When I opened my own therapy practice, I started with Therapy Notes since I was familiar with the platform and generally liked them. I found the support team very helpful in getting me setup. TherapyNotes was easy for both me and my clients to use which was a plus. The biggest reason I ultimately chose a different platform was because I wanted more freedom and flexibility with my documentation such as intake paperwork and notes. The templates in TherapyNotes offered minimal customization and that was ultimately a dealbreaker for me.

Pros

Very user friendly on both the clinician and client end. Affordable, especially for a smaller practice. Support team was great! Very responsive and helpful.

Cons

I wanted forms that were more customizable. This was the biggest reason that I changed platforms. I appreciated that the standard forms included necessary information, but they were not customizable enough for my specific niche/client population.

### "The best case notes are created with TherapyNotes"

October 5, 2024

5.0

Writing case notes was something that used to take a long time and required me to create a whole new note every time. Thanks to TherapyNotes I can create and reuse a template to save time and make notes more organized and easy to read. I love the fact that the notes are all stored in one location that I can quickly access regardless of whether I’m on my desktop computer at home or through my smartphone when I’m out in the community. The software also makes it easy to filter through in order to find specific notes which is very convenient.

Pros

It makes writing case notes a breeze for mental health practitioners. It allows me to store all my case notes in one convenient place. This makes it really easy to access them whenever I need to and it also allows me to quickly filter through them to find any specific note I need to access.

Cons

The price is quite steep for solo practitioners.

### "Excellent system for therapists"

May 24, 2023

5.0

Excellent experience with Therapy Notes. I highly recommend it.

Pros

I'm not tech savvy and neither are many of my clients. Therapy Notes is very user friendly on both ends and I hear positive reviews from my clients. I also appreciate that the intake forms and progress notes are efficient and can be poulated with past notes. The customer service is excellent. The wait time is minimal, the team member is always helpful and professional, and so far every question that I've had has been answered quickly. I don't accept insurance but issuing a superbill only takes a few clicks. I haven't tried any other programs but I recommend Therapy Notes all the time.

Cons

I wish that Therapy Notes had an app for myself and my clients. A number of my clients use their phones for our sessions and having an app would make it easier on their end and it would be easier for me when I'm out of my office.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

It was more reasonably priced and the credit card fees were lower. SimplePractice included a free website trial but I found that it was basic and not worth the extra money. I also just found the Therapy Notes platform more intuitive.

### "PMHNP friendly EHR, pricey e-Rx fees"

August 24, 2024

4.0

Overall I would highly recommend this software. I only practice part time so I am frugal and try to keep my cost low as possible, but if you do not mind spending $780 a year to prescribe then you should be satisfied with this EHR.

Pros

I loved the ease of set up. The importation of patient information from another EHR was quick. They have a to-do list on the initial screen that walks you through each step to set everything up as well. It assures you do not forget anything. When you log in the to-do list will appear so you can stay on top of tasks. I loved the integration of telehealth into the system and the charting template. You can also easily upload and share documents with patients. The customer service is great. They are really responsive and follow up to make sure that everything is good to go. They also personally reached out to see how I was enjoying the EHR which was nice. What I was really impressed with was how fast they set up the e-Rx and EPCS features. It takes other EHRs forever to get this done, especially the EPCS but they set both up in less than a week. They also assisted with setting up the PMP for my state. You can add multiple locations if you practice in more than one place which is really neat.

Cons

The cost of the e-prescribe feature. At the time of this review it is currently $65/ month in addition to the base cost of the EHR. This is expensive compared to similar softwares. They should consider a one time set up fee for EPCS and lowering the cost of prescribing.

### "Please give us better Reports and KPI Tracking options"

January 30, 2025

4.0

My overall experience is good and they are making improvements regularly.

Pros

I like the ease of the system and readability

Cons

I feel there are many things that could be improved. Reports and data collection is almost non existent. tracking and reporting for missed appointments is extremely difficult, billing secondary insurances is not an easy process, areas for notes and memos are not clean, I wish you could change appointment color based on different things such as checked in or canceled.

Wonderful product. Made my job much eaiser. Just a little more pricey than some of the other products that are the same as this.

Pros

Everything is in one easy spot. I can schedule an appointment, do telehealth, take notes, and bill all in the same platform. You don't really need anything else when using TherapyNotes, LLC. It keeps track of everything for you. Making the work load so much easier.

Cons

The price is very high. Custumer support was also hard to reach the first time I tried to contact them.

### "TherapyNotes Review"

July 9, 2025

3.0

Overall not a bad application and a great way to streamline all the different needs with appointments. I think there is space for improvement but for the basic needs everything is there.

Pros

Therapynotes was great for our team because it provided functions like appointment scheduling and notes for appointments. The program was easy to navigate as well. It also has the ability to do insurance claims and overview of billing.

Cons

There are areas of the application that could be improved. We did find that some features could not be customized for specialized documenation. The pricing for this is affordable but to have other features you have to pay the upcharge which was inconvienent. The mobile app is good however in order to see the full overview you still have to use the website so the app is a bit useless.

### "If you are not using Therapynotes, you are missing out"

March 29, 2024

5.0

It is rare that you can find customer service of this quality in anything anymore. A real person, not an chatbot that can only answer concrete questions, no language barriers or "boxed" answers sending you down a rabbit hole. A real person responds quickly with simple and easy to implement instructions on any issue. I am not tech savvy and have never had any problems implementing all aspects of this platform. I have been in healthcare for nearly 40 years and have never seen such a truly wonderful product.

Pros

I have used TN for 10 years without one single negative experience. The customer service is incredible, fast, through answers to any issue. This was especially appreciated when I opened my private practice and was using TN for the first time. The customer service has remained excellent in my ten years as a customer. Scheduling, EMR, billing and accounting are just so easy, anyone can do it.

Cons

The only thing I wish they would add is an automatic transfer of discontinued medication into a past med trial section. That would be really helpful, so that you don't have to review your notes to see what your prescribed in the past.

### "Superior Customer Service"

February 6, 2024

Exceptional customer service and an easy to use product with helpful features.

Pros

TherapyNotes has fantastic customer service. You may wait a few minutes to talk to a real person, but they are patient and kind and help you with issues (even those that are due to user error). Also, TherapyNotes has made billing insurance and recording payments SUPER EASY. I don't think I would have continued on my own without this support!!!

Cons

I wish that TherapyNotes could bill secondary insurance providers and I would like to see more customization in the templates for notes.

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

It is easy to use and provides a lower fee for nonprofits.

### "I highly recommend Therapy Notes; do not hesitate to try it "

August 10, 2023

5.0

I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy the overall experience I have with Therapy Notes. I actually get excited each time I log in and genuinely have fun with the clinical administrative portion of my job. I used it when I worked in a practice in a fee-share arrangement and didn't even think twice about choosing it for my private practice!

Pros

I really enjoy the aesthetics of the user interface. Navigating the EHR is intuitive and does not require a great deal of technical savvy.

Cons

I would like ROIs to be added to the library. :-) Other than this, nothing.

### "Why I Recommend TherapyNotes"

November 9, 2023

5.0

I procrastinated in setting up TherapyNotes. However, they kept reaching out to me, offering to help me do that. I also have found that TherapyNotes, unlike other systems, is easily accessible by phone, with minimal wait times. They also have a robust library of "help" articles.

Pros

TherapyNotes is easy to use, with just the right options to make it ideal for everything from adding a client or clinician to the system, designating who has access to specific clients' records, selective individualized two-factor authentication, dropdown menus, and the ability to incorporate the text of previous notes into one's current note. I also like the ability to be able to easily upload and download documents.

Cons

The only think that TherapyNotes could do better, in my opinion, is create a subfolder system. All of the uploaded files appear in a column, and one can name the documents anything one wants. However, I would prefer that all of the uploaded documents of a particular type (e.g., assessments, progress notes, other notes) were in separate folders.

### "TherapyNotes is strong overall but has numerous problems it hasn't addressed since its inception"

March 7, 2021

3.0

I wish I had started with a different program. I am not satisfied. I am not all that computer literate and just want something that gets the job done, and I'm too entrenched (and lazy?) to go to something else like SimplePractice. One more complaint: I have been a psychologist for over 25 years. I don't need the condescending ways that TherapyNotes literally PREVENTS YOU from, rather than cautions you about, doing certain notes out of order. Cautioning is a superb idea. We all get sloppy. Preventing is something altogether different. If I got a lecture (which I did) from someone who received their clinical psych PhD from my alma mater,UCLA, I might not be offended by the condescending tone I received when the woman informed me about the "golden thread" for conceptualizing clients. There was no "we chose to...." They are RIGHT. And another: you can enter a considerable amount of information, especially in billing, and then be told it can't be stored because it isn't properly allocated, or whatever. Can't they store it and flag it so you can return? I've wasted a lot of time here. There's no way to know in advance that you'll lose the information until you go to save it.

Pros

I like the electronic billing feature and the fact that it receives and allows recording of Electronic Remittance Advice from payers; the scheduling feature; ease of entering initial billing information from electronic ERAs (though there are other huge problems with billing); some aspects of the notes section; customer support by phone (but not via email); hours available for phone support, including weekend; other areas I'm not thinking of at the moment. Even though I can't recommend it, I do think it has many strengths.

Cons

(1) The billing area has countless flaws that my husband, a software developer on Mac and Windows for nearly 40 years, has called to their attention to no avail. When I note these weaknesses, they sound like it's the first time they've heard about it and "pass it on to their team." If you work with Medicare clients or clients who rely on two insurers, watch out. Most Medicare patients have secondary insurance that does not show up in the billing area so that you basically have to use a cumbersome process to enter secondary payment, and it's not immediately clear who paid what, as payments by each don't show up side-by-side in Billing, each associated with the proper payer. If you aren't a provider for the secondary, you have to use a "trick" to enter it. It is not intuitive overall. (2) While phone support is good, email is poor. I write in thorough explanation of the problem so that it can be solved in one go. Most times I write to them, I get a condescending first response that blows me off and requires another complex email essentially conveying the same information. (3) There is no manual. They've been in business too long for this. (4) The articles don't cover enough. For example, I entered "set place of service." Sounds easy, but no hits. (5) They put a lot of resources into tele-therapy when the pandemic hit, which appeared to divert programmers. They make lots of money; why not hire more?

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

I read about it and it struck me as the best product among the few on the market at the time. I bought it when it just came to market, as I recall, and there were few other programs available.

Response from TherapyNotes, LLC

March 10, 2021

Thanks for your feedback. We'll be reaching out directly, particularly so we can clarify what billing issues you're seeing. 1. We're unaware of what flaws you're referring to but, hope to learn more. We do have some improvements coming out soon to improve secondary insurance, so hopefully this will address your concern. 2. We will look into why you received poor email support. The people that answer email are the same people that provide stellar phone support. 3. We have no plans to have a printed manual. The Help Center (support.therapynotes.com) is our digital manual. 4. If you can't find your answers in the help center, please call for support and we'll help out. We are readily available. I agree there's an opportunity to add more content. 5. We didn't divert anyone to work on telehealth. There are 6 development teams, one of which was already working on Telehealth. We are always hiring more developers.

### "Ten years with Therapy Notes!!"

January 7, 2022

5.0

Pros

Ease of use and organization of everything I need in administrating this business.

Cons

Cannot think of anything that is a con. Therapy Notes has enabled us to grow and prosper and also bend with the changing times and teletherapy boom from COVID.

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

I spoke to your founder back in 2012 and we talked about why and how he had developed Therapy Notes for his wife's therapy practice and I thought, who better to know what is needed. We signed up on a trial basis using the clinical director only since the system was very new and he loved it. It was a major improvement over what we had been using and the therapists loved it for it's ease of use and user friendly design. We recommend Therapy Notes to all.

### "Best Company in 42 Years of Work In The Field"

October 4, 2022

5.0

I feel safe knowing that all of our data is clear and manageable

Pros

TherapyNotes started out with great structure and they have listened to us all for years and have increased systems and made them user friendly. The accounting features need a little human oversight but do a nice job of tracking what payments come in. Calls and emails with staff are incredibly helpful and they send emails with all the information they shared which I put into our staff and admin manuals

Cons

Getting the payments to match up with dates of service can sometimes be tricky and it doesn't always manage adjustments and other taxes clearly so I have a billing person keep track and manage it

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

More robust systems for all areas of my practice
