### "The best to-do list for Apple devices"

June 17, 2022

5.0

It has been great! Great integration with Apple ecosystem and as a to-do list, it performs very well and you have plenty of functionality to make it detailed enough or simple enough based on how you deal with to-do list.

Pros

The integration with all Apple devices (Mac/iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch) The design (Apple like design) It's great software for GTD approach One-time purchase Shortcuts

Cons

You need to buy the product for each platform (one-time purchase for Mac, one for iPhone, one for iPad) which makes it a bit expensive in the first place but if you plan to keep it long term, it's worth the investment rather than a subscription for a product. Time blocking not available: there is a workaround though, you can drag your tasks on your Apple Calendar app but it's less effective than a proper time blocking functionality It misses also a kind of assistant to help you out daily with planning and review to better stick with GTD. If you are not disciplined enough on reviews, it can be quickly out of control. Daily/monthly stats on how you perform could be quite nice (like Todoist)

I wanted to use Things for a long time for its design but on my previous position, we were using Windows laptops so I went with Todoist which is cross-platform and it's quite similar to Things on the way it works. But if you use Apple devices only, Things is beautifully designed and it works well without any subscription.

### "Great task list with intuitive UI "

June 22, 2025

5.0

This is the software that I most often return to for my task lists. The user interface and quick entry options are smooth and intuitive.

Pros

Quick and easy entries while also having enough power features to plan long term projects. The typography is also well done.

Cons

I wish there was a way to see a whole week of tasks at a time. A forecast view, like OmniFocus would take it over the top.

### "Disappointed - didn't live up to the hype"

April 10, 2018

3.0

It was a good starter point for task management in the world of knowledge work, but I eventually had to progress to a more robust system as my workflow and organizational systems matured. But I 'cut my teeth' in Things and appreciated the syncing between all my devices.

Pros

It's very simple and user-friendly. It would take no time for someone new to the software to get up and running with it. As a basic task manager, it is perfectly adequate. If you want to build your own system from the ground up, this is a good choice.

Cons

It just wasn't feature-rich enough to justify a price point that was comparable to other task management software choices that DO include richer features. For instance, why no cascading tasks/dependencies? I'm a GTD person, and Things just didn't have all the layers needed to execute GTD digitally. I eventually found a competitor that was clearly designed to work for GTD workflows and abandoned Things. Unfortunately, I had already sunk the costs of paying for the desktop, iPad, AND iPhone apps for Things because everyone else I worked with was using it and seemed to love it. I know many who still do, but I just like to build a task system with much more specificity and robustness.

### "Things is a great way to manage all the "things" you have to do"

April 19, 2024

4.0

Things was my main project management app for several years and I loved using it. It was a huge help to my productivity. But there were a few things that I wanted it to do that it did not, and I found ways to work around them. But eventually I found another solution that better fit my needs and I switched over.

Pros

The best thing about Things is how easy it is to add and organize the tasks that you need to accomplish. It is easy to brain dump them in, and then also easy to move them around and get them in the right order so you can get them done efficiently

Cons

The main problem I had with Things is that I wanted more ways to delineate and differentiate tasks. I use color codes a lot, and tags as well – tags are great in Things, but I could have used more ways to separate tasks and projects so it would be easy to get a sense of what needs to be done at a glance. I don't want to read all the tasks every time I glance over

### "I Always Return to Things"

August 3, 2019

5.0

Since purchasing things a year and a half or so ago I've tried other productivity task managers. Moved my process into Trello, Omnifocus, Agenda, Teamwork.... and while all of those products have excellent features and are great for managing projects and the like, the attempts either by me or by the software to manage daily task lists and project tasks never pans out and I return in a week or two to Things and am reminded how elegant and functional Things is. Great product.

Pros

The user experience is phenomenal. To be able to search for a task or project by simply typing--with no keyboard shortcuts or mousing to a field or clicking on an icon--is brilliant. Additionally, I love that I can just hit a quick ctrl-spacebar at any time regardless of the program I'm in when I'm on desktop and I can quick enter a task and return and flesh it out later on. Great during meetings. The app for ios is awesome, as well.

Cons

I truly wish that I could drop files into a task. However, there's a fine line between where something is simple and effective vs taking on too much and risk becoming a bloated piece of software with too many options. I argue with myself that the line with Things is with this desire for it being able to store a file. Evernote, Sharefile, Box, and several other products our org has license to can all serve this purpose. But still, when I'm aiming for maximum efficiency (and when I don't want to create some zap or other chain to make such a thing work), it's the one thing I like least. Small thing though. Small small thing.

### "Best of the best (for Apple users)."

September 14, 2020

5.0

No complaints about the software, interface or usability. If we eventually have to do a paid upgrade to Things 4, we'd do so in a heartbeat. Great for personal and professional task management.

Pros

I've tried literally 10-15 todo list/productivity style apps, and Things 3 is by far the most intuitive. I also like the one-time payment option as opposed to a monthly subscription. By far the most thorough in terms of keyboard shortcuts, flexibility and just overall product design. One thing I really like is that it can pull in your calendar entries into your "Today" view to give you appointments alongside your todos. This is a fantastic feature that most todo apps do not implement. Better than Todoist, Wunderlist, Asana, Google Tasks. I love the tagging - this fits my specific needs perfectly, and the Getting Things Done methodology no matter how that works in your own workflow.

Cons

I didn't like having to pay twice for the software. Meaning, you have to pay a separate license fee for each device. I paid for a desktop license and an iPhone license. I still prefer this to a monthly fee indefinitely, but there are plenty of companies offering one license for all devices so this was disappointing. That being said, you get what you pay for, and we are still glad we did. I have no issues with the software itself, only the pricing and lack of clarity around it.

Reason for choosing Things

Calendar integration gives a fuller picture of my daily tasks as it includes an meetings/appointment I need to work today's todos around. Perfect!

### "Love it!"

July 18, 2019

5.0

I organize my day-to-day and projects with this.

Pros

I love that it integrates with my calendar. I love that it has an AppleWatch app. I love that I can use it with Siri. I love how projects are organized so I can covert a to-do into a project at anytime. I love how simple it is to use.

Cons

I really wish it had collaboration built in. I have several projects I work on in groups and it would be nice to share lists of to-dos with each other and see each other mark them off.

### "My Digital Brain"

December 20, 2019

5.0

Pros

Things makes it easy to take something I'm holding in my physical brain, but it in a trusted system, and forget about it until the time I need to remember it. It interfaces with all my other favorite apps and services (Airmail, DEVONthink) and works seamlessly across my computer and mobile devices.

Cons

I wish it was easier to take action on multiple to-dos at once (e.g. marking them done, changing their due date, etc).

### "Why I Love Using Things"

April 30, 2025

4.0

I appreciated how clean the interface is. It doesn’t overwhelm you with options, yet it gives just enough structure to help you stay organized. Adding tasks is effortless, and the quick capture feature is a huge plus when ideas or reminders pop into your head on the fly.

Pros

What I like most about Things that it's really helpful for organizing complex workflows and also good for personal use!

Cons

Well, what I like least about Things is that not suitable for teams or shared projects, but still good for solo professionals.

### "A way to ensure you know what Things need your attention"

November 12, 2021

5.0

Name a task management app: probably I have used it. I have tried so many, but have stuck with Things for years now. One of the secrets is that there are less bells and whistles, less leavers to play around with. This means, I take less time to make the task list look perfect, and more time on actually doing the work. The other reason is that tasks I do not complete today, just get carried over to tomorrow. This means there is not a backlog, no past days to navigate back to. There is simply 'today' which includes all the tasks I purposefully added today's date to (plus the ones carried over from yesterday). There are two types of dates: deadlines and reminders. With tasks that have a deadline, I will usually set a reminder a couple of days in advance. Each day I try to take a couple of minutes to look at 'today' and move out anything that I give up on doing or want to postpone. That way I know what is in 'today' is truly things I want to tackle that day, if I am able. If not, I know the task will show up tomorrow again and did not disappear into the abyss of digital nirvana.

Pros

It is so easy to use! I have tried lots of task managers and this one works best for me, mainly because of how little there is to 'play around' with. I love the design and the integration of apps on the Mac, iPhone and iPad are great.

Cons

There are a few small things that could be changed to increase its usefulness, but most of them are 'nice to have' and don't touch on core functionality. Sequential tasks (making task 2 show up once task 1 is completed) are the most obvious missing feature. Prices are high (especially compared to some free, yet still high quality offers) but comparable to their main competitors (OmniFocus, Todoist)

### "Things, a Very Valid Way to Get "Things" Done"

February 13, 2021

5.0

I am someone who using my email inbox as the list of "action items" for my day. Things sitting in there are either going to be replied to by end of day, acted on or filtered into Things via a specific link URL for me to act on at a later day / week. The deep linking is super nice as I can hit a quick keystroke, have the email link into Things and then I can categorize it, set dates and also add tags or list items to it. This keeps my inbox clean and easy to manage. I have this on Mac, iPhone and iPad, which is an expensive investment, but its a very polished piece of software. I use this for school and work only and use something else for Personal (more on why in a moment) When I triage my tasks at the start of the day, it's easy to prioritize, and drag things around to shift priority throughout the day or as things change. Also the "Evening" grouping on a "Today" task makes it easy for me to separate my Masters program tasks from work while still having an eye on both and not having them blend together. The one short coming is why I cannot use it for personal. My wife and I both have shared tasks, and this does not share tasks. My wife can sign into this, but then she is subject to all my stuff, which she does not need, and there is no way to turn off lists per device or hide various items. So instead we use 2Do right now which does allow a more fluid shared system. If Things added shared lists, this would be a complete solution for personal/work shared lists.

Pros

The repeating tasks are nice and being able to reschedule them is a plus. Baked in functionality with platforms like Spark make it easy to add an Email as a task, and then click on it in Things later and have the email automatically load right where you need it. Makes it easy for taking an email out of my inbox and putting it somewhere for later.

Cons

Lack of shared lists - this software is good for the individual to get things done throughout their day and keep things separated and organized and know when things are due, however it does not allow for sharing of specific lists or tasks with someone else. Apple Reminders and the abandoned software 2Do offer this functionality standard. So if it's a shared task, you need to look elsewhere.

### "Ios task manager"

October 5, 2021

5.0

Pros

Things is a very excellent task manager that is very well build for managing task. It is light and run fast on my iPhone without any problem. I can create a task from a single click and it shown hos simple it is to operate the software. The notification can be set if you constantly reminding you for you pending task.

Cons

Things that i dislike with this application is, it is exclusive only on ios platform and can be access from other operating system like android or windows. The price for the software is also quite steep and the trial period is too short for user to evaluate it before make a purchase.

### "The best task management software for easy to medium complexity setups"

August 12, 2022

5.0

It’s my favourite software and couldn’t think about doing without it. It has its limitations, but for my use case the pros greatly surpass the cons, that can be worked around somehow. One thing to keep in mind though is that it’s a strictly individual app, it has no functions for collaboration or sharing anything, and moreover works only on Apple devices

Pros

Things is very easy to understand and use, and has a very beautiful and clean interface that’s a pleasure to see. It is simple on the surface but can accommodate a bit more complex setups.

Cons

It’s good for managing single tasks to remind or simple projects, but for more complex things it shows it’s limits. The things I miss the most: setting tasks within a project as parallel or subsequent tasks: now they’re shown all together, even the ones not yet actionable; a web interface, for when I don’t have my devices available for some reason. Also, the ability to put tasks on hold or track that they’ve been delegated to others would be good

### "Excellent ToDo List Organizer Works Great for Projects Too"

September 6, 2018

5.0

Pros

My favorite features of the app include: • keyboard shortcut for a quick entry box to capture a new to do no matter what I'm doing on my computer • keyboard shortcut for a quick entry box that captures whatever I've highlighted on my computer and pastes it as a new to do • integration with Apple Reminders and calendar to import reminders to Things. This is extra useful because I use SIRI to capture to do items all the time and they automatically show up in Things inbox for processing. • organizing to do items into projects and be able to assign headers within the list to group items • tags for quick filtering I also use the mobile app, which makes reviewing and adding on-the-go easy, but I mainly work with Things on my computer for major planning

Cons

I use Things daily and I honestly don't have any criticisms. I only hope the developers don't start adding features which dilutes the amazing functionality and ease it has now.

### "My go-to task manager"

September 11, 2022

4.0

Things helps me organize my life and keep focused on the tasks that matter.

Pros

Responsive and clean UI. While task managers aren't too complicated, Things has a beautiful interface and makes creating tasks a fun experience. The "magic button" which is what I call the create "+" button is a nice way to enable creation of To-dos, projects, or Areas. The default set of groupings works well, from Inbox, to Today, to Upcoming, to Anytime, then Someday. You can also create your own Areas and Projects to meet your own logical grouping. Any tasks that aren't completed get moved over to the next day. Being able to snooze a task by moving it to "tonight" is also useful. You can also configure an alarm to prompt you when you should perform a task.

Cons

Once I accidentally deleted an Area and spent a lot of time trying to find out how to undelete. I still haven't figured this out and had to recreate it from memory. There aren't any collaboration features to work on tasks with other users. Also the one time cost of the software is limited to specific clients (i.e. iOS vs MacOS).

Pros

This is a very easy product to install and use Just like the Google search bar, it’s best feature is it’s simplicity. It also allows you to keep historical record of previous activities which is very helpful I need to go back and look something up

Cons

Pros

It is a robust and beautifully designed piece of software that does just about everything I want it to do. It has the ability to make a project with key tasks and subtasks that isn't overwhelming to review.

Cons

I really wish they had a subscription model that would allow me to pay them a flat price per year or month to have all of the apps. Right now you would need to purchase each app individually but then you own them until they make a new revision.

### "Good software with a few concerns"

June 9, 2018

Helps me manage my todo tasks though there are other high quality players in the same arena today

Pros

\- Beautiful UI - System wide shortcut to capture tasks - Syncs with the iPhone, Mac and the iPad - Fast and flexible. For e.g.,I could choose not to do GTD and run it like a traditional todo list - They finally seem to be building some integrations into the application

Cons

\- Very expensive. Needs a separate purchase for iOS - Devs can disappear. They did after they released the previous version. Took an incredibly long time to develop Things 3. I was questioning whether I had to move to a different todo list - Not as feature rich as one would expect given the incredulous pricing. For e.g., cannot use with teams, no note taking - Needs a dark mode

Organization both of my work and personal life has had a big improvement since using Things, no regrets buying this software at all! Also for those quickly vanishing thoughts, quick entry is amazing.

Pros

Overall everything feels smooth and right how it should be! Really the best feature for me, is being able to quickly note some thought (from the quick entry shortcut, with intelligent autofill!) while doing whatever thing on my Mac. Calendar and Reminders integration it’s also very well synchronized and displayed on the Menu. Cloud makes it a very good feature for the companion app on iPhone, it’s a breeze!

### "My 'Things' experience"

July 27, 2021

5.0

Excellent. No complaints.

Pros

I love the design of this app. Definitely easy to use. I just type up a task press 'enter' and that's it. All my tasks are listed. I can check off what tasks I've completed. It even keeps a record of all the tasks I completed and I can set up a 'reminder' notification so I know that this deadline is coming up or I have. I can even set up keyboard shortcuts to make entry even faster. Essentially this is like my digital diary. Easy to use and it sits on my desktop so it's right at mu finger tips.

Cons

Needs an Android mobile app. Would love to be able to have all of my tasks synced across desktop and mobile.

This is the app everyone needs for organizing their lives and getting stuff done. I just wish it was marketed toward everyone and not just those who have to spend a pretty penny.

Pros

Things is the exact app I am looking for when it comes to getting things done and completing projects. It's minimal and I don't like to spend a ton of extra time that I don't have just to work around software. I also love that you can obtain this app and sync to all of your devices.

Cons

The features are great, but I feel like it's difficult to justify spending the amount of money on the app. $20 for the iPhone app and then another $50 for Mac and $20 for iPad? I understand that each requires it's own time of development, but the pricing is steep. I would love to be able to get Things for my Mac and iPad but I can't justify spending that kind of money on an app.

5.0

I have tried several other todo list managers, and this is my favorite one by far. Simple, easy to use, but powerful enough to handle my needs.

Pros

quick integrated intuitive calendar syncing multiple platforms

Cons

There isnt much that is wrong about this software. If im being picky, the only thing I don't like is how the apple reminders aren't automatically imported into Things. They show up, but then you have to maunally click "import" to get them into your inbox.
