Pros Features are boundless thanks to a robust worldwide open source community of contributors. Easy to learn and use. Cons Hiring a full-time, in-house back-end developer can be difficult. They're an independent lot and typically like to work from home wherever that may be. The best version was seamless as far as entering text and data, while the other two versions (for lesser-known publications) required HTML coding within the text boxes. It felt very outdated to use. I’m not sure how much the company spent on the lesser version of Drupal, but it was a lot more time-consuming and, overall, resulted in a lot of lost productivity for me. Pros For the most updated version that I used, the data/text entry was very easy. Cons Some versions of the Drupal software I used required HTML coding within the text boxes, which I was not well-versed on. Considering how another version I used didn’t require this, it was very frustrating and felt unnecessary to do so much extra work for the same results. Review Source sandeep S. There were too many things that needed to be set up and working just right before I could get to something that looked like what I wanted. Be prepared for a steep learning curve as opposed to getting up and running quickly with something like WordPress. Pros I like most of the security that is available in Drupal. For an open-source product, it gives enterprise-level users reason to trust it. Cons Drupal can be a bit overkill for sites that just need some simple editing. Before selecting this software know that it is going to be a bit complicated to set up and design for. Reason for choosing Drupal In the few times that I used it, Drupal was chosen for the project because the client insisted on it. What was truly superior is knowing that Drupal has a very strong community support and proved to be extremely informative in my time of need. Pros Drupal is a well-known, free and open source content management system that is geared towards complete website designing with its flexibility due to its core database and PHP structure, compared to WordPress, which is more on the blogging side. It is also very customizable; therefore, if you are armed with the right plugins and modules, you will be granted the ability to build complex websites, enterprise-level websites or web applications. As mentioned before, Drupal is flexible, reliable, and secure, allowing any or all businesses wanting to create and online presence to reach the world, possible with little developer skills, web designing experience and web building knowledge, as it is suitable for both beginners and professionals. Cons I believe that Drupal has a limitation when it comes to designing templates vs other popular CMS on the market. When designing your template, it doesn't really support a drag and drop feature, so it forces you to use the templates that are available at start. Pros Drupal is a new tool for me. I have been working with other similar CMS and I have been able to realize that what I like most about this is that it serves better to work the user roles. This has facilitated many things in the projects we have done with this tool lately. Cons There is a difference that I have noticed and is that when uploading content with this tool there are many variables that can be changed, I think there are some that are not so necessary and that can confuse the editors, it is possible that they remain alone for the administrators. If you understand the way a CRM works and the possible need for computer coding then the options and available features are varied and flexible. Cons It is hard to navigate the backend of the software alone with not having a flexible enough design space to easily create fluid websites. Using Drupal is not easy, but on the other hand it can do a lot. So if you need complex, custom and stable solutions, go ahead and get Drupal. Pros I value Drupal's flexibility the most. It is a great tool, which will show its great potential in the hands of a professional. If you do not have experience with CMS / CMF and do not know the basics of programming (no, HTML and CSS are unlikely to be enough) then do not approach Drupal - it is a waste of your time and your health. Cons I really regret that the Drupal support and community are not too great. Here, most of the things you have to do yourself - the availability of ready-made, updated (and good quality) components and extensions compared to WordPress is unfortunately negligible. Due to the popularity of the platform, there are ample resources online to take advantage of in learning the platform. Cons I find it very easy to use on a daily basis but it did have a learning curve at first and is definitely less easy to pickup at first then say Squarespace or Weebly was. I'm not web developer and Drupal has given the power to create more dynamic and robust websites. I have only once ran into a problem that couldn't find the answer in Drupal extensive support forum! It's amazing how everyone helps each other out with CMS. I have not seen any other CMS that has such a robust community of developers and support in the forums. Cons It works very differently from other CMSes and is more difficult to get familiarized with than Wordpress. If you need a very simple website, I would recommend WordPress. But if you need a more feature rich website, Drupal is well worth the time investment to learn it. Pros Drupal è un CMS ossia content management system intuitivo che da molte possibilità a chi vuole facilmente creare un sito e tutte le pagine direttamente da un interfaccia utente.Inoltre se si hanno competenze aggiuntive si possono creare moduli ad hoc per le funzionalità che si desiderano.In grandi siti web poi con un team di editors, i contenuti possono essere editati, controllati e approvati o meno prima di essere pubblicati.Caricando un template già pronto si può impostare il sito come meglio si preferisce e con i moduli già pronti si possono aggiungere funzionalità senza doversele implementare da soli. Cons Purtroppo è limitato perché se si vuole aggiungere delle cose che Drupal non permette di fare si andrebbe a modificare il codice e non si potrebbe più fare gli aggiornamenti. Quindi bisogna prenderlo as is e accontentarsi dei template e dei moduli disponibili. Cons As time passed, much better products came out that were easier to use. Drupal became an out-dated product that didn't work very well. It cost us more money to make changes to our website versus changing to something more streamlined. Pros The community (which I marked as Customer Support) is very active and large. Open-source can (potentially) lower TCO for small and medium companies with smaller digital footprint. Easy to extend platform with a rich and often mature library of community modules. Cons While it is getting better and some modules offer improvements, Drupal continues to be one of the most difficult CMS systems to get setup and configured for scalable, multi-site needs. Being open-source can provide smaller organizations with a much lower TCO, but larger enterprises should carefully evaluate the long-term TCO especially in configurations that need to scale. Recommended to look into some PAAS players like Acquia and Pantheon for more enterprise needs.
