If this had not occurred and the other company not offered exceptional pricing I would not have switched from Paychex Flex Pros Having a dedciated customer service representative. There was always someone available that was directly assigned to our account our new payroll company to talk to a general customer service person each time. Cons Untimely correction for errors that were made, and no accountablility for this mistake. Excuses were made that it was not the job of that representative anymore because of a promotion and no one was assigned to the account, so he was doing both jobs. This is not the customers problem it is the companies issue to fix. March 19, 2026 5.0 We used Paychex Flex for payroll and 401K for our hourly and salaried employees. The system was easy to use and I love the fact that they helped with all of our mandated reporting. Pros Paychex Flex was super easy to use and communication with the support team was excellent! It was also a great value for the money for time tracking and payroll for our employees. Everything worked well for us and the team was always available to help meet any of our needs. February 26, 2026 2.0 Strong provider, but overall, the cost was very prohibitive. Cost ultimately had us looking at alternatives, but their solution is more than capable to support the task, unfortunately at a heavy price. Pros Paychex Flex is a large company and with that comes a bit of security and knowledge that they can handle any sized customer big or small as well as the unique challenges that come from complex payroll solutions. The rub is that you pay a premium for that type of service. All in all they have a solid and very customizable product and it's well rounded given there several acquisitions to include just about everything under the sun under one product offering. Cons The cost. Being a legacy payroll provider, the cost certainly is high in comparison with all of the other providers. The other thing that could be a challenge was the revolving door of specialist that would be assigned to our account. It seemed like every month or two we'd be assigned to a new Paychex team member. Also given Paychex size it seems that the teams are geo-diverse and don't utilize the same tools and resources to manage customer accounts internally. i.e. probably no shared CRM or Salesforce platform. We'd routinely get calls from folks in different departments trying to upsell our service offering only to tell them we spoke to someone else about this less than a month ago and have no interest in implementing the additional services. Once these were worked through it worked very well. Pros The ease of use, functionality of software, the software being able to handle all tax withholding of various local jurisdictions. Cons It wasn't always easy to connect with the account assigned representative, however the next available staff was always very helpful and knowledgeable. Cons There are no complaints with how Paychex is structured it is well designed for that I use it for and had been an effective way of tracking my time. Customer service for all product lines is non-existent or offensive. Major mistakes with no consequences. Many tax failures that we ended up paying penalties for. Continued to bill us after contracts were terminated and would not respond to inquiries. They are shady with billing. Pros One Employee Login for 401k and Payroll. Otherwise, there are no other redeeming qualities for Paychex. Cons The customer service in all departments. The failure to provide services as contract (tax-pay service, payroll and 401k Plan). Mistakes, very big ones, by the 401k team. Horrible service by everyone involved over several years. Keep sending us new products to sign up for, but their current products do not work. Sometimes they expect certain terminology that you don’t use on a daily like they do. Pros I like that they do help us with our taxes on the payroll end of things. They make that process a lot simpler Cons Sometimes you just don’t get answers from them. And you have to wait on them for everything pretty much! You don’t have any control to do things yourself. I think they may be better for larger companies? Pros Their website is user friendly and it's nice to have access to reports when you need them. The first person I worked with was great, everything went downhill from there. Cons They had difficulty charging the agreed weekly price, couldn't figure out pay-as-you-go comp insurance (despite telling me repeatedly that it was set up correctly); contact person kept changing, they had difficulty keeping our two companies straight. Pros paycheck flex was very easy to use with my prior employer never had any issues, and if I did have any questions customer support was very friendly and responded very quickly. Cons nothing really, paychex flex was very easy to use and only downfall would be the employer at the time. Customer Support made the change from our previous product super easy and walked us through every step of the way. Pros Paychex Flex has been super easy to integrate our payroll for our employees. It is very user friendly and the document storage is amazing. Cons We have not found any cons with paychex flex yet. It has been very easy to set up for our business and have been very happy with it. The system isn't totally user friendly, you need training to use it. They made promises that they have not kept yet. Still working on it. Pros I like the app that the employees use to log in their time. Clock in/clock out and that is shows me the location when they punch in/out. Cons I am unable to pull a report showing the punch times and locations. Their report shows coordinates of their location, totally useless. All of our employees can manage and track their time, and access the new PEO benefits beginning on 04/01/26. Pros Ease of use and I love that I can keep track of my payment schedule and have access to all of my hours worked and documents. Also, a new feature has been introduced to our practice. The PEO benefit where we as employees can take arrange if empire benefits, 401K, Health insurance and so forth. Cons There is nothing to dislike. This software was a great tool and I loved that it was cloud based as a manager. Pros Easy to use and navigate at times. The setup was manageable and allowed for easy learning and training not only for me as the manager, but training other employees to use it as well. Cons Sometimes, there were quirks and hang ups. Very intuitive so you can pretty much figure out everything yourself. Helpful customer support. Makes all the tax allocations by state easy. Cons Some of the functionalities have different support teams, and the teams aren't cross-trained - so you can wait on hold only to be told that they need to transfer you elsewhere. My dedicated rep is never available and hold times can be very long for general support. However, in the end it wasn't my decision, it was my supervisors. But I didn't feel like it was worth the money that we spent. Pros It was pretty easy to use. The platform was straight forward and I never had an issue processing payroll. They also offered pretty comprehensive training. Cons It was very difficult to ever get a response for any payroll or HR related questions. No one would answer my call and it took days to get a response. It was also a very expensive product to use and had sub-par health insurance. The app is convenient and easy to use, payroll runs smoothly, and the self-service features save a lot of time for both employees and managers. While there are a few drawbacks with reporting and occasional support issues, the platform overall makes payroll and HR tasks much more manageable. Pros Paychex Flex is an easy-to-use payroll system. Th mobile app is super easy to use once you get it set up. Really makes managing pay stubs, W-2s, and PTO simple. It has several self-service tools for employees, automatic payroll tax compliance, and several other features. Cons The downsides of Paychex Flex are that some features cost extra, the reports can be a little tricky to figure out, and customer support isn’t always consistent. The system works well overall, but parts of it do feel a bit outdated at times.
