Unlike other tools such as R and SAS, STATA provides the basic solutions to everything using inbuilt libraries and commands. Cons One of the things I didn't like about STATA is that its not available for discussion in many online forums such as stack overflow and GitHub. Pros Stata is sufficiently easy to use and has a lot of features that allow you to fully analyze your data. The deployment of use is very good and the reports you can create are impressively intuitive. Moreover, the support is great: being a very famous software, you can benefit from the support included in the product and from the tons of users! Cons Honestly I can't find cons. Importing data is easy and the analysis runs extremely quick. Pros I like the capabilities that stata offers. I have only used it for about a month and it seems like the more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know. Cons There is definitely a learning curve with stata. In general, the learning curve for the software was very quick and the language was very close to Python and C, which me and my team were already used to Cons Cost was approximately for each license, as we really needed one license for each team member, it was very costly for us as students, also, there were problems regarding using the same code with different STATA versions, sometimes we had to debug already working algorithms just because we switched machines. Troubleshooting is typically fairly straightforward -- the program's help function is good, and most other problems can be solved by searching online. Cons Stata is not as flexible as R (the other major statistical program used in my field), although the learning curve is much less steep. There are programs for odd little statistical procedures, for handling different input, for changing output, for playing with variables, and all sorts of other things. These programs are easy to install, and if you have problems, Stata tech support is just amazing! Cons It is difficult to grasp when compared to SPSS. SPSS is far easier to get used to, with its more modern GUI. That learning curve is probably one reason, along with brand recognition, why everyone in the (stats) world doesn't use Stata.
