Pros

It was straightforward to implement, deploy and use Xero without involving third-party service providers. Currently, I like that the iOS mobile application makes it easy to streamline online accounting tasks on the go over the internet.

Cons

I have been using Xero since 2021 and I have never failed to accomplish my online accounting tasks due to an unfixed bug.

Pros

Clean, intuitive interface that's easy to pick up, even for occasional users. Day-to-day tasks are quick and simple.

Cons

API rate limits and gaps in endpoint coverage can make integrations harder than they should be, requiring workarounds and retries.

I would never recommend Xero to anyone. Hopefully my review saves a few unsuspecting people like me. First of all, there is no access to pick up the phone and talk to someone. Has to go through Xero central online. My credit cards quit connecting and automatically showing up on Xero. Their answer to me is to do all of the extra work and just manually do it myself. I have talked to so many people at this point, and they never have an answer. They blame it on their 3rd party, Yodlee. However, no one does anything to fix it. I am now approximately 7 weeks into this not working, and got a call from them today, and still no answer to the problem. Never any offer to reduce my fees, or at this time should give me the service for free until they can get over their incompetence and fix the issues. Anyway, save yourself and use a different accounting software. I certainly will after the end of this year. If it weren't so much hassle for year end taxes, I would have done it 5 weeks ago.

Pros

My experience has soured me on everything. I thought it was a good value for a while, but you get what you pay for.

Cons

Being able to fix problems, customer service, not being able to pick up the phone and call, not being able to talk to a supervisor that can actually work on fixing the issues, bugs and issues

### "Clean, modern cloud accounting"

5.0

November 2, 2026

I tried Xero while comparing accounting options for a small business. It felt modern and efficient, especially for day-to-day reconciling and invoicing, and I would shortlist it for any small company moving to the cloud.

Pros

Xero has a clean interface, strong bank reconciliation, and good invoicing. The bank feeds and the way transactions match up save real time, the dashboard shows cash position clearly, and it connects to a large range of add-on apps.

Cons

Payroll and some US-specific features depend on add-ons or tier, and there is a short learning curve if you are moving from desktop accounting software.

I had been bitterly disappointed with Quickbooks and then their customer service. Xero was very easy to onboard with and I had no issues for the year and a half I used them. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great accounting software.

Pros

The price was fantastic and I felt the quality was worth it. I was still reeling from Quickbooks failing on me so I was looking for something better. This was it.

Cons

I had no issues for the year and a half that I used Xero. In fact, it was a great software to use for my accounting.

I have only been using it for a few months but i find it easy to navigate easy to learn and its very reliable compaired to the older purchasing systems i have used.

Pros

Definately ease of use. all of the options are very obvious so navigating is very instinctual and hasnt been over complicated.

Cons

Can be tricky to log on as you frequently have to use a authenticator app clearence, but thats the security rather than the actual product.

It's quickly become industry standard and default and the lack of viable competition and the extent to which it becomes embedded in the company means you're never really going to leave, so once you're onboard you feel like you just have to live with it and stop expecting it to get better.

Pros

While I use it in a fairly limited capacity, it's relatively easy to learn to use and there was no real barrier to entry or need for intensive training to get to learn how to use it. It's easy to create new contacts and new invoices

Cons

Unfortunately like all cloud based systems now, the change management is awful, you're constantly at the whim of the developers as to when you have new things added or taken away, and new features often seem pointless or unintuitive, often introducing many bugs or just making the overall expierience worse. I worry that real users never actually get to test these things, with it all being done by script, or even worse, AI.

We ran our practice on desktop software for eleven years before finally moving over. My staff picked the new system up in just a week, that really matters when you’ve only got four people and tax season doesn't wait for anyone. The support team actually sounds like humans who’ve looked at a general ledger before. For any small accounting firm handling client books, I’d recommend it without much hedging.

Pros

Bank feeds reconcile clean, which is a lifesaver. I used to burn two evenings a month just chasing down coding errors on client files, now, it takes maybe an hour. It’s nice to get those evenings back. The dashboard tells me which clients haven’t paid before I even open my email.

Cons

Report customization takes longer than it should. When I'm building a management pack for a client with three revenue streams, I'm basically fighting the layout editor the whole time, it’s just a chore. It’s minor, though, once a template is saved, I can just reuse it. I did have a bank feed drop silently last March.
