The best thing I like about Xero is how easy it is to use. The interface is intuitive, and the software is designed to be user-friendly, even for those who are not accounting experts. I wish I would have started using Xero before I had my Accountant on board to set up the system. It would save lots of time to input these income and expenses data into the system as soon as it occurs. After all, it is a must have system for anyone selling online. Pros I like the feature of seamless integration of thousands of transactions from my Amazon seller central account with my Xero account. I have my outsourced accounting team to set up for me using the API of Amazon. The user interface of Xero is very good and attractive, as it is very simple and easy to use. I love it because it is intuitive which allows me to track transactions, generate real time reports, and view my financial reports efficiently. The ease and flexibility to customise reports provides so much convenience for me. Cons Are there features you feel are missing or could be improved? Are there aspects of the product that are difficult to use? Was the integration with your existing business process difficult?It requires more professional knowhow with accounting background and technical skill to make some other customisation on reports, which I found it would cost more time and resources to hire someone to make these reports for us. Cons The bank feed drops occasionally which makes us have to double and triple check if info was lost. It has many functions that other tools don't and it is made to expedite and simplify a bookkeeper/accountant job. Pros Very user-friendly and efficient. I like the automated features that speed up the process and that data can be imported and exported with ease in different formats. There are a lot of customizable fields that are useful for different types of reports. Cons I don't like that it is only available in English. This should be customized to fit the accounting requirements in more countries. Sometimes the updates of Xero make it worse than it was. I had been on a leave for a year and must say that the updated version is not very much to my liking. It looks worse and less organized. After switching to QuickBooks, we needed a cloud-based application that would reliably allow multiple users in different locations to log in and access a shared set of data without the need for conflicts or complex VPN or remote desktop solutions that were required in QuickBooks. It is ideal for professional consulting agencies. I have not had contact with it in the food or service industry sectors, so it could work well in this arena, but I have no direct knowledge. Pros Xero offers all the functionality we need and has none that we don't, which makes it a very practical and intuitive system. There is no complex learning curve to implement the software. The customizable reports make it easy for me to organize accounting data in a very practical and manageable way. As a web application, there is no desktop software to update, synchronize, perform remote work, etc. Everything is updated in real time across all locations and user accounts. Cons Many of the features are not present in your application, plus the site is not compatible with mobile devices, so you must run it on a desktop computer to take advantage of the suite's full potential. We were a new company and did not have anything to import from another product. There was no, and still is no, customer support at all. There is a help center where you can search and search to find an answer to your question(s). As long as the product is working, you will do ok once you figure it all out. However, if something stops functioning, it may be months before it gets fixed. This made it very difficult for me to be able to do month-end, quarter-end and year-end reconciliations and reporting. The product worked for a couple weeks in the month of January which caused multiple duplications that had to be worked through then the product stopped working again for about another month. I don't care what the cost of a product is, if you can't use it because of their product defects, what is it truly worth? It cost my employer more money to pay me to work through all this than if I had done it all manually on spreadsheets. Pros After six years of use, I am comfortable using Xero when it is working. Cons Read your reviews on the customer service aspect of this product. It doesn't matter how well a product is rated when there is zero customer service. All the negatives you read about their customer service are TRUE. We have used Xero for 6.5 years and it was six years before I ever got to message with what seemed to be a human. There is no phone number to call nor is there live chat. You can submit a customer support ticket but good luck getting a timely response or a response at all. You can ask the "community" for help but a reply from the Xero community may never come. Reason for choosing Xero Again, I am unsure. Pros Since I've been using Xero, I've really liked it, as it has proven to be an exceptional solution for optimizing our financial management. It has an automated bank reconciliation feature, which is a real plus, because it saves us time and ensures the accuracy of our financial records. It has characteristics that are key to our objectives. Cons Xero is an almost perfect system, because it can have limitations in terms of customization. Some of the advanced reports and features may require technical knowledge or expert assistance. Support is only via online chat request and can take some time to return the answers (which you need to login to the account to see) but overall its a good well rounded program that is fairly easy to use by all. Pros Bank feeds are simple and easy to use. Entry of sales invoices and sending easy. Can upload documents and evidence for almost every transaction whether in sales, purchases or journals area which is very handy - dont need to go searching for docs at EOFY for the accountants. Cons Reports can be a bit restricted on what you can include or exclude so can be tricky to get the right one to pull the info you need. Sometimes setting up bank feed can be tricky. Payroll needs more features and simplified. Look at the Xero Central feedback and comments. A very unhappy customer base. Pros It used to be good - but now the 'improvements team' have ruined a good product. Cons The development team are taking their lead from govt depts to incorporate e-invoicing and other 'goals' but dropping essential functionality. Listen to your customer base. Look at the Xero Central reviews. Your customers are leaving in droves, hence the marketing push for 75% discount to new users. Pros Invoice creation is straight forward, even for beginners (providing your Xero administrator has provided you with the relevant information on your internal products). Our end-customers are yet to have any issues making payment after receiving the invoices via e-mail. Cons The end-customer e-mail notifications are sent directly from Xero servers. Usually this isn't a problem as the servers clearly have a good global reputation so delivery is reliable, but we have had a few questions asked by customers as it's not always clear the invoices were definitely sent by our company and can look spammy. This could be resolved by allowing full SPF (DNS) integration with our companies domain and having the outbound e-mails spoofed correctly. Switched from [Sage 50 Accounting](https://www.capterra.com/p/174753/Sage-50cloud/) The desktop software provided by Sage is horrible to use and feels ancient by comparison. I just wanted to help the company as I had more free time than other colleagues. Xero made it so easy to learn and work with even for someone with no experience on it. Fast forward 5 years later and I am the go to person for anything finance related within Xero, all thanks to its easy interface and helpful tutorials. Pros It is extremely easy to use and understand from the get-go, allows you to create invoices easily, control expenses, and also setup recurring invoices so you don't have to worry to manually create them each time.In addition, reporting with Xero is a joy, not only does it offer out of the box reports that are very visual and easy to understand and compare between different periods, but it has a very strong customisable reporting method that can be used to pull more complex data. It takes minutes to get a basic invoice setup and sent to a client, and not much longer to make a more advanced invoice. It is easy to connect to your bank account and reconcile incomings and outgoings. It is also easy to give your accountants access.Overall, Xero makes it easy for you to avoid mistakes, and very importantly it has plenty of functionality that will allow it to grow with a company, as you need more advanced features, they are there, often at little to no extra cost. Having Xero helped a lot when starting my business, by making handling my fiances and accounting clean and clear. Pros Xero provides a clean and straightforward experience. It has plenty of features for most use cases, but provides functionality that is easy for anyone to use from small business owners up. The integrations they provide, both with Open banking, and allowing you to give your accountants access, make it a breeze to correctly handle your finances and avoid time consuming mistakes come the end of the tax year. Cons Having used Xero for many years, there is not much that I have found that I don't like about the system. Sole traders may find the 20 invoice a month restriction limiting, but that only applies to the Starter subscription. The prices of the others are more than reasonable to validate upgrading which gets you unlimited invoices. On occasion there will be bank feed issues, at which point you might be left wondering why your balances don't match. Finding out there is an issue with the feed from your particular bank is not obivous, but can be found by clicking through to their "Why is this different" page. From my experience this is the only con, and it is quite minor. Alternatives considered [FreshBooks](https://www.capterra.com/p/142390/FreshBooks/) Reason for choosing Xero Having had a trial with both Xero and FreshBooks, I much prefered the user interface and experience of Xero. Pros What was the layout of the dashboard. It makes everything look very simple and plain almost too simple. Cons I’ve needed a lot of customer support throughout the last year and a half and I don’t get real time answers. I have to wait at least a day for them to get back with me and when they do then I have more questions and have to wait another day for them to get back with me.
